Sign Bar - Review - East Austin - Austin - The Infatuation

"We’re not entirely sure if it serves as a tribute to old Austin, or a stark reminder of how quickly the city continues to grow, but Sign Bar in far East Austin, near Walter E. Long Metropolitan Park, is a bar with dozens of signs from closed, iconic Austin businesses. Use it as an opportunity to revisit some old memories, or just as a mini history lesson. There’s a full bar with a small menu of pretty classic, simple cocktails, plus the usual options for beer and wine. There are rotating food trucks on-site most nights of the week. photo credit: Sign Bar" - Nicolai McCrary

New Austin Bar Sign Bar Opens With Old Neon Signs and Drinks in East Austin | Eater Austin

"Located in far east Austin, I visited Sign Bar, which opened June 16 at 9909 FM Road 969, Building 3. The space — a converted, shuttered automobile service station with indoor seating and a large outdoor area — features a full bar, rotating food trucks (currently a taco truck), and a decade-long collection of over 75 retired Austin signs assembled by FBR Management’s Matt Luckie and Max Moreland. The signs, a mix of originals and reproductions by fabricators and artists, include pieces from legacy restaurants like Night Hawk, the Frisco (the last of which closed in 2018), and Cafe Josie (which closed in 2020), as well as from Maria’s Taxo Xpress and Winebelly, still-open classics like the Omelettry and Mrs. Johnson’s Bakery, and other landmarks such as Dallas Nightclub, Dry Creek Cafe, Hut’s Hamburgers, Katz’s Deli, Kenichi, Nau’s Enfield Drug, Red Fez, Shady Grove, and Threadgill’s; the collection also contains signs from FBR venues including Gibson Street Bar, Lavaca Street Bar, Midnight Cowboy (purchased in 2021), and the closed Graceland Grocery and Metcalf BBQ. The official cocktail menu launched June 21 with drinks like blackberry mules, spicy margaritas, and Old Fashioneds, plus weekend brunch cocktails including the bloody mary called This Is a Sign (with tequila or vodka, a Tajin rim, bleu cheese olives, a pickle spear, and pickled okra), a variety of mimosas, and an East Side Bellini. Sign Bar’s hours are Monday–Thursday 4 p.m.–2 a.m., Friday–Sunday 11 a.m.–2 a.m., with brunch Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m.–3 p.m." - Erin Russell

Such a fun spot to hang out. Plenty of parking. The signs are giant and fun to just explore the space. A few big games make it easy to stay and enjoy. Great food next door and at the food truck! Only complaint is the drink choices are lackluster but next time I’ll just grab a beer and hangout.

Seeing all the older signs was excellent; it seems like it is getting bigger now! You can play the yard games, Jenga, and you may meet the kitty 😻 You can buy drinks at the bar; food trucks are outside the Sign bar. We went there around 10 pm, and all the food trucks were closed except the Fried Chicken truck, just in front of the main entrance. The weather was perfect and the team members were so friendly! It will be perfect to chill with friends at night time!

A wonderful experience for anyone who has lived in Austin for a bit. Very cute that it's just 'outside' of Austin. Frankly, the service was good, but even if it were bad, this place would get a great review. The energy into the nostalgia.... It's excellent.

Make sure to visit, you will enjoy the wonderful visual experience. Our family loved it & the food truck food is great. The pizza was delicious. Think I liked it more than the tacos. 👍

It's a really neat place to hangout and have a few drinks. They have tons of signs from local businesses, if you're a local this place may induce some feelings of nostalgia. They have the old Frisco's sign! There is also an I ❤️ Video themed room. (note: I❤️V made the best pizza I ever had! Bring back the pizza please!) There is of course the bar, a few food trucks, and a couple of boutiques, it's worth driving a few miles east of Austin, to go check it out.

I am so happy that we chose this place to celebrate a birthday! They were so great with communication, accommodating, ambience was great, and the drinks were yummy!! Thank you sign bar team for making it a memorable experience! Our whole party enjoyed it :)and to add to this review the watermelon frozen drink was my favorite and they had pizza and fried chicken food trucks which we tried and were good!

Nothing to see here, said no one ever. Great hangout place with all the Austin nostalgia you could want. Frozen drinks are very tasty but nearly cost $20 so be careful cause they can go fast as they are not served in small glasses.

The drinks are strong and the chicken food truck is delicious...try the pickles!! This place is the definition of nostalgia. It was cool seeing all the older signs all in one unique space. Had fun playing the yard games, Jenga and Connect Four. They also had tossing games too. It was HOT outside when we went so I recommended going at night or in the cooler months! Fun place! 😁
