Simply South is an absolute delight! The ambiance is cozy and inviting, making it perfect for a relaxed meal. The Chole Bhature was incredible, and the Benne Dosa instantly became my favourite – soft, buttery, and full of flavour. The Ragi Dosa, uttappa, masala brinjal, Mango lassi and Filter Coffee were equally amazing. Every dish felt authentic and made the experience truly memorable. Highly recommend this place for anyone craving delicious South Indian cuisine! This is my go to place whenever I visit Dallas.

I recently visited Simply South in Irving, Texas, and my experience was nothing short of delightful. I started off with their dosa, which came out perfectly golden and crisp. The outer layer had just the right crunch, while the inside remained soft and slightly fluffy. Dipping it into the sambar was a treat the sambar had that authentic South Indian tangy-spicy balance that immediately reminded me of home. It felt comforting and satisfying. The real highlight for me was the South Indian thali. It was like a festive spread laid out on my plate, with poori, plain rice, pulihora, sambar, rasam, dal, multiple curries, pachadi, chutneys, papadam, and sweets like kesari and sweet pongal. Every dish had its own unique flavor, yet they all tied together beautifully. The poori was perfectly puffed, the curries had that authentic home-style touch, and the rasam was bold and refreshing. I especially enjoyed how the desserts balanced out the spices from the main course. It felt like a complete journey of South Indian flavors in one sitting.I also tried their curry and biryani, which were served in brass vessels, adding a rustic, traditional vibe. The curry was rich and creamy, full of flavor, and the biryani was spiced just right without being overwhelming. Garnished with fresh coriander, it looked as good as it tasted. The ambience of the restaurant was lively, warm, and very inviting. The décor with South Indian touches made the experience even more authentic, and the place was buzzing with happy diners. Overall, my visit to Simply South felt like more than just a meal it was an experience of South Indian culture, flavors, and hospitality. Definitely a place I’d recommend and one I’ll be going back to soon.🥰🥰

What do I know about South Indian food?? Of course, I've been eating full-meals and thaalis all my life and am lucky to have awesome Andhra and Telangana friends who cook great food. Also, popular davangere benne dosa is jus 10 mins from my maternal home. Now that my creds are established, here's my review of what I witnessed or ate at Simply South one-time dinner at 8pm! 1. Reservation - Too hyped up, you need to reserve days in advance, then they acknowledge and you get excited. 2. The place itself - Hyper-hyped(if this is even a word), south Indians raving about it online, add more excitement 3. Ambience - Extremely crowded and noisy. Interiors look like 90s veg restaurants. Excitement starts to go down. 4. The chutney tower - 8 chutneys that had no salt and restricted flavor. Excitement falls 50 percentage. 5. The South Indian Thali - Very boring sides. Lemon Rice - I don't feed my enemies lemon rice!! 😒 Two sides were just boiled peanuts. Blandest sambar that reminded of college canteens. Overall, lacked flavors. 6. The North Indian Thali - Very boring and had a bland dhal instead of samburr and paneer curry, instead of another curry, rest were exactly the same with a naan. Lacked Flavors! Zero excited now! 7.1 Dosa - Decent but with the same bland samburr and the flavor-less chutney tower 7.2 Thatte/ Thattu idli - Super soft and tasty - but the idlis can fly only so far without good samburr or the chutneys 8. Poori bhaji/ chole - This saved us as the kids liked and ate it. The bhaji was very tasty. 9. Filter coffee - Good, per my friend 10. Service - Extremely dedicated staff trying to save an average restaurant 11. Guthi vankaya curry - one of my favorite dishes of all time was jus too sour. But ok! 12. Cost - Turned out close to $200 In conclusion, Simply South is Simply Average - Simply Skip it!

Great good, good ambiance as well. We went on Wednesday for lunch and lot of people were during those time. On Weekend there might be waiting. Benne dosa was good, crispy with pot of oil and Nellore ghee thatte idly was great as well. Chole nature was also good. Best part of 6 chutneys - all of them are good. Must visit for south Indian in Dallas.

Google
This place serves up some seriously fantastic and soothing south Indian grub! The service here is also top-notch, making for a really pleasant experience. Don't even think about skipping the breakfast items – they are an absolute must-try! My only minor gripe is that the seating can feel a bit too congested and cramped at times. I really hope they can find a way to improve the seating situation.

We had the veg thali and it was absolutely amazing! Every dish was flavorful, fresh, and perfectly balanced. The presentation was lovely, and the service was warm and attentive. A must-visit for anyone who loves authentic South Indian food! 🌿🍛

Went on weekday afternoon and food was not good. Crispy corn is really good. Rava dosa was ok ok. Chutneys which were given for dosa tasted good. Never order Ulavacharu veg pulav here, it tastes like sambar rice :(. May be will try diff items on a weekend and then update the review in few months.

Google
Simply South has been a fixture in Irving for a while now. I've dined there for lunch, and honestly, their lunch offerings are pretty standard compared to other vegetarian restaurants in the area. However, this review is specifically about their tiffin menu, especially for dinner. One thing I've consistently observed at Simply South is their consistency in tiffin dishes. I've tried various items, and the ones that really stand out are the Benne Dosa and Tatte Idli, both generously served with butter or ghee. During this particular visit, we ordered Masala Dosa, Veg. Noodles, and Sweet Corn Soup (a kid's choice). The potato masala in the dosa was good. However, the sambar served with the dosa isn't your typical Madras sambar. An ideal Madras sambar should be rich with vegetable flavors, the soul of dal, and the aroma of good sambar powder (some use freshly roasted and ground coriander, but it's mostly the sambar powder and asafoetida that provide that distinct fragrance). Simply South's sambar is a 50-50 effort and frankly, not one of the best. The same goes for their chutneys. While they offer variety like peanut and mirchi chutney, they lack that true element of relish you expect from South Indian chutneys. We wrapped up our meal with a Lemon Soda and their unique "Simply Southy" Goli Soda, both of which were satisfactory. Overall, I'd rate my dinner at Simply South somewhere between a 3.5 and 4. Since Google doesn't allow fractional ratings, I'm rounding it up to 4/5

Yelp
This is one of the restaurants I come to once and cannot wait to come back again! Pros: + Huge variety of South Indian, Indochinese, and a few North Indian dishes + Huge portions - we ordered a biryani and one order was probably enough for 3-4 meals + Friendly staff + Easy parking + Great Service + Gorgeous interior Cons: - Food takes a little while to come out, but it's so amazing Just an FYI, this place makes food super spicy. So, great if you like spicy food. But, seriously, I order a level 4/5 spice at most places. I had to get a 1/5 spice here (I described it as mild, please make it for a baby). Yes, my mouth was on fire and I needed a Falooda to put the heat out IG: QueenOfAdventureNYC

Yelp
Excellent food and service! We had the thatte idli mix, and the mixed wada plate. The idlis were fluffy and the (six) sauces that came with it were also very good. The sambar hit all the right notes. I followed with the ghee kara masala dibbarotte, my first time. Be aware that this prep takes time, so nurse your wada sambar while you wait! It was a sight to behold! Finished with a gongura mudhapappu pulihora (reminiscent of a bisi bele huli anna). Washed everything down with filter coffees. Don't plan on operating any heavy machinery after this meal! Worth the drive! The reservation system with the QR code worked efficiently and we were seated in 20 minutes. The ambiance was amiable, conversational, Indian family restaurant with friendly staff who chatted us up after the meal. It gets crowded though, so be prepared to wait. Worth it!

Yelp
Food is of very good quality. I got to know about this place through an instagram video and it didn't disappoint me. Service is also very good. Just keep in mind they have long wait times during peak meal times especially on weekends. The longest I have waited here is 35-40 mins. Their paneer Manchurian is mind blowing! So is chole bhature and masala dosa.

Yelp
A delightful blend of soulful flavors & awe-inspiring hospitality. The decor & the music add to the authentic experience as well. The trick is to get there early if you aren't a fan of waiting as this place is pretty popular & rightly so. We tried a couple of things & 1 topped the other, such true flavors. The thatte idli is a must try & definitely one of my favorites. The feather in the cap was the experience provided by our hostess Harshini, being busy didn't mean there would be a compromise on the service. She took time to patiently explain us the menu & assisted with trying few new flavors. Making guest satisfaction a priority she ensured we get to try the flavors we like most, making the right recommendations & ensured we got our food on time hence making the overall experience delightful.

Yelp
Classy fine dining, super authentic south indian food, exceptional service, knowledgeable staff and packed to the brim restaurant with happy tummies and smiles all around. My husband and I had an amazing experience at Simply South and fully satisfied after our meal. Each and every dish we tried was fantastic! very authentic, fresh, high quality and tastes exactly or even better than restaurants back home. The chef's must be extremely talented and skilled to deliver such tasty food. Guntur button idly: soft, melting button idly's topped generously with yummy podi and loads of ghee. Pullaattu : Never in my life have I imagined that I will eat super authentic pulla attu/ majjiga attu that too in US. this is different to what my mom makes which i absolutely love, its thicker like dibba rotti but with pulla taste from majjiga mixed in batter. kudos!! Nellore Neyyi Karam dosa: Pretty good, loved the karam spread. wish there is masala filling. I've had similar dosa's at other places too but this is amazing. Mango falooda: Literally out of the world! Do yourself a favor and order this brand new drink introduced in the menu. Its all the goodness of falooda but even better mango ice cream and mango infused drink. Hubby and I could not stop from downing this item. Filter Kaapi : My chennai born husband was over the moon after drinking yummy, authentic, fresh and refreshing filter coffee. Poori with veg kheema (vegan): Never have I tasted a veg curry sooo packed with flavor aroma and the chewiness of fake meat. The best. Ohh not to forget the unique and wide variety of chutneys they served in a tower. So so yummy, each chutney tasted fantastic and i was so confused on which i like better so ended up eating them all. oh and the sambar was omg. Can down the entire bowl in seconds. I would like to thank our server Meghana for her exceptional service and fantastic recommendations. Everything we had was suggested by her and we absolutely loved each and every dish to the max. Good luck Simply South. We will come visit again in our next trip to Dallas!

Yelp
Firstly, I must commend your efforts in maintaining a pleasant and clean environment. The ambiance was indeed very attractive, and all the staff were impeccably dressed, contributing to a welcoming atmosphere upon entering your premises. However, I would like to bring to your attention some areas where improvements could be made. While the overall experience was positive. I found that the quality of the chai was lacking, and it would greatly benefit from careful attention to preparation to enhance its taste and flavor. On a brighter note, the 3 in 1 Thatte Idly was delightful and enjoyable, although the sambhar could use a bit more depth of flavor. Similarly, while the Pullattu was fluffy and well-prepared, it lacked the desired sourness that would elevate its taste to match its texture. Furthermore, the Mudapappu with avakayi was unfortunately overly salty due to an excess of avakayi, suggesting a need for better balance in the dish. Also papad needs to be served with it to complement the dish. As for the Qubaani ka Meetha with ice cream, it left something to be desired in terms of taste and presentation. On a positive note, the filter coffee received favorable feedback from my friend, and the Dosa ghee Karam, although missing its masala component, was still enjoyed, albeit with some disappointment regarding the additional charge for the missing ingredient. In terms of pricing, I found it to be reasonable, but it is essential to ensure that the authentic flavors promised are delivered consistently with each dish. Overall, I would rate my experience at 3.5 stars. While the establishment quickly filled up, I believe there is room for improvement in terms of waitress training to ensure attentive service throughout the dining experience.

Yelp
Simply South is a restaurant that stays true to its name, offering a truly authentic and delicious South Indian vegetarian experience. From the moment you step inside, you are greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere, adorned with traditional South Indian decor. The menu is extensive and features dishes from all South Indian states, including Andhra, Telangana, Tamilnadu, and Kerala. Each dish is carefully crafted using only the freshest ingredients and traditional cooking techniques. I was excited to try out the South Indian vegetarian cuisine at Simply South. However, my experience was marred by a bad reservation. Despite making a reservation three days prior for a table for two, we were kept waiting for one hour before being seated. I ordered the Malabar Porotta with Veg Kheema Masala and Jackfruit Fry Pulao with a side of Raitha,Qubani ka meetha. The Malabar Porotta featured a golden-brown exterior and was cooked to perfection, with soft and tender layers and a slightly chewy texture. Unfortunately, the Veg Kheema was overcooked and lacked taste, as the curry sauce was watery. However, the Jackfruit Fry Pulao was a standout dish, being hearty and wholesome, packed with flavors, and featuring perfectly cooked jackfruit with a meaty texture. The Raitha was cooling and refreshing, with a creamy texture and tangy flavor that complemented the spicy dishes.Quabani ka meetha was excess of sweet then flavor. The ambiance of the restaurant is perfect for a family dinner or a special occasion. While I appreciate the delicious food and the ambiance of the restaurant, I cannot overlook the bad reservation experience. I hope that the management will take steps to improve their reservation system to avoid such incidents in the future

Yelp
Food is Amazing! Now they are voted as one of the Top 50 restaurants in US. Idli and dosas were excellent . Love the different chutneys they serve

Yelp
Simply South is a restaurant with nice ambiance where you can take both families and co-workers. Do keep in mind that it is reservation-based only and really busy on weekends. We ordered the onion chili uttapam, thatte idly, Davangere masala dosa, and the South Indian weekend dinner thaali. The onion chili uttapam was fluffy and prepared well. It well with the sambar. Thatte Idly was also delicious! The idlis are fluffy and pretty big. They have a type of spicy powder on top of two of them, but there's also ghee added, so it's not that spicy. The dosa was on the softer side instead of crispy, which I actually liked! The chutneys were also delicious!! I loved the presentation of them. Falooda was also pretty good. It's filling and a nice touch after the spicy food. One thing I wish that was different was that I wish they wrote on the posters that the thaali on the leaf is only offered for lunch. They advertise aritaku bhojanam, and it doesn't say that it's only for lunch, so I thought it was for dinner too. I was a little bummed about that. Other than that, the thalli was also very filling and I enjoyed eating the various curries and veg fries.

Yelp
Starting with the ambience, felt exactly as it would if we were at a traditional restaurant back home. From the decor, seating and to cutlery it was perfect. Next, the food was delicious! Service was fast given it was packed, we didn't wait past 10 minutes and we ordered quite a few. Since the kitchen was closing soon we wanted to order a dessert. Mr. Sesha Reddy promised he will bring it in the end and unfortunately when we brought it up with our waiter she mentioned the kitchen was closed lights off. But when he noticed this, he went to bring someone from the kitchen staff just because he promised. Sesha Reddy and staff were very friendly and put the customers first. Will be back

Yelp
As someone that is not a fan of South Indian food this place has successfully gotten my business multiple times. The place is amazing really clean from inside the staff is friendly. The food is amazing the thate idli is a must try as well as the bane dosa. The Chole Pori are also delicious. I also tried the Indian Chinese combo which was not bad the noodles were perfectly cooked how ever the paneer chili was really spicy for medium spice level. I do recommend this restaura

Yelp
On a recent trip to Dallas, we had lunch at Simply South, sampling the PODI Thatte Idly, thali, medhu vadai, and buttermilk. Unfortunately, nothing particularly stood out. Later that night, we all experienced discomfort and severe heartburn, suggesting something was amiss. We had heard great things about this restaurant, so perhaps it was just an off day for them.
google avatar

Sheryl A.

Yelp
Poor management. Disorganized seating system- they told 20 groups that their table was ready and none of the tables were ready. Place is understaffed and workers are overworked and mistreated. They ran out of a flavor of a menu item and told us they can't cancel the item off our order and that we must choose one of the other flavors. If you run out of an item, you shouldn't force someone to buy something that they didn't want. I do not recommend this place.

Deepak G.

Yelp
Just awesome. Stellar food, exceptional service. You rock and your accomplishment in US top 50 listing in just 2 years is unheard.

Yelp
I visited this place recently because it was recommended by a friend. They were right this restaurant was great for vegetarian food. I ordered the Masala Dosa and Coffee - my friend ordered the Veg Thali. Everything was spot-on and tasty. I will go here again soon.

Anjlica D.

Yelp
We were lucky to get a table within 5 minutes on a weekday evening. This place is very popular and can get very busy. Food tastes fresh and has more flavor variety than other South Indian restaurants. We had the Thatte idli (large size steamed and buttery soft idli), ghee karam dosa (podi powder dosa), jackfruit rice (jackfruits were dry, not in a curry), pulao, pongal (super yummy). We ere so excited to try different things but our hostess was patient and guided us on the portion sizes. Another server Ganesh came and asked us if we enjoyed the food. We enjoyed the food and the hospitality and will be back to try other dishes. Paneer starter was fried and then mixed with herbs giving it a unique flavor. The pieces could have been bigger to make then soft.

Ash A.

Yelp
I appreciated that the entire restaurant is pure vegetarian, and that are many unique menu items not found in any other South Indian restaurants. The service is pretty good. The restaurant tends to be pretty busy generally since it is very popular in the Indian community. I felt that the food was somewhat expensive but will still likely return.

Surya M.

Yelp
An amazing spot for vegetarian food, offering meals that feel just like traditional home cooking. The wide variety of dishes are all equally flavorful. I would highly recommend this place repeatedly for its excellent customer service. The ambiance is superb, capturing the authentic vibe of South India.

Yelp
Amazing Food and awesome service !! Definitely a place I would go again and again ! The ambiance and authenticity is real .. you feel like you are eating in a restaurant in India

Nitha Elizabeth C.

Yelp
Best place for South Indian food. Good customer service and ambience and definitely a must try restaurant.

Kris J.

Yelp
I waited for 30 mins to get seated. After seating made order, got plate, while waiting for food went to rest room for few mins. They took away the plate and deated some one else. These people do not have minimum basic manners. It is an embarrassing situation for Me with people surrounding Me seeing.... Pls do not leave your table going to rest room...it will be given to some one else..

Sai S.

Yelp
I was really excited for this spot, but ended up coming out really disappointed. The idly was hard like a rock, the sambar was tasteless. They didn't have many of the items available on the menu either. The staff was really nice, however they're definitely stretched way too thin - having to take care of too many tables at once, and as a result, the service gets slow.

Vinod M.

Yelp
Yes very good food, great service, great ambiance. Thali is too much for one person. If you are from Telengana or Andhra Pradesh or from South India you will like this place.

Priya S.

Yelp
We visited simply south restaurant today..and could see a large waiting list. Could see people arguing and making ruck sucks. People kindly understand that they are busy and packed tight with reservation and walkins and . We are all here for good south indian food, which is served with amazing quality and freshness. The staff here are too good and patient. Especially the reservations, where a lady patiently listens to us and tries to accommodate our request. Not all bad reviews are genuine..it just shows their zero patience level. Sorry guys..

Aparna K.

Yelp
The food was very good. Tried their North Indian thali and chole bature. They have to get a better system in place for their reservation. Their front staff was very courteous and patient but with the overwhelming number of people it seems chaotic. Ambiance is very nice but they have to do a better job cleaning the tables. The menu card they gave was sticky with food spilt on it from whoever previously used it. So that was yucky. And the bathrooms, less said the better. I cannot imagine why it is a stereotype about Indian restaurants and bathrooms. It was just dirty. After all the waiting time you will have to provide cleaner facilities.

Kristin S.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious food! The range of idlis and dosas on the menu is astounding. We stayed with two cups of excellent chai, then tried two different kinds of dosas with the accompanying tower of six chutneys and small bowls of rasam. The Mysore masala dosa was huge and shatteringly crisp, folded into a triangle around the spiced potato filling. The benne masala dosa was thicker and moister. They were both absolutely delicious, and the chutneys were wonderful and really made the meal extra tasty and fun to eat. The staff seemed concerned that we would find the food too spicy, and it was hot but not too hot. The dining room is beautiful, bright and airy, with crystal chandeliers. My only complaint is that the ladies' room did not measure up - it was very dated and badly needs freshening. Overall, I am sad that I don't live in the area, because I would eat at Simply South a lot. The food is delicious!

Shruti P.

Yelp
Great, authentic South Indian food! Great atmosphere as well. While pricey, the quantity and quality is amazing. Very accommodating staff as well.

Ramakrishna T.

Yelp
You must make reservation. They don't give tables to you even if they are empty for walkins Simply "God Bless them"

DesiGhee M.

Yelp
A bad experience across all fronts. Unlike many professionally run restaurants, this one accepts everyone who walks in even if they are staffed to handle half the number of people. This made the whole experience bad. The food took forever to come, and for a table, it came out randomly over a period of 45 minutes. Quality of food has gone way down. Service is pretty much non existent, since the servers are overworked. Food is mediocre at best. We know a number of people who went there when it opened and said everything was good, but now after going there again say they will never come back. Bad service, bad food, bad management, way over-crowded dining hall - a bad experience overall. I would avoid.

Krithika R.

Yelp
We went there with friends last night. The restaurant was packed and there were people waiting outside but luckily we had made reservations. We ordered idli platter and vada platter as starters. Idlis were really soft , vadas were crisp and were served with sambar and four kinds of chutney. Coconut, peanut, roasted gram(I think) and beetroot chutneys. After that we ordered ulavucharu dosa, rava masala dosa, ghee kaaram dosa and Sarasaropet kaaram dosa. All the dosas tasted delicious. The staff were friendly but I am taking away one star because of the unclean restrooms.

Comic R.

Yelp
This was the best South Indian place I've been at. The Service was fabulous sometimes giving us free food. The atmosphere is the best and it's really clean. The food is the best I've ever had. I would definitely go here again.
