Seafood charcuterie, oysters, fried chicken, and Chartreuse slushies
"The people behind The Morris have a new seafood spot near the Grand Lake Theatre. And like the Morris, it’s a destination restaurant disguised as a casual neighborhood bistro. The multi-room space embodies the warmth of a candle, thanks to abundant brick and a roaring wood-fired oven (a relic from the spot's previous Sister and Boot & Shoe days). For your aquatic feast, start with their charcuterie, like the shrimp chorizo and duck and lobster mortadella, followed by the seasonal crab salad in a fragrant passionfruit aguachile, and the gnocchi parisienne that’s a fluffy-cheesy dream. Sirene knows that great comfort food is fried, so there’s textbook fried chicken you can dress up with various sides including octopus kimchi sauce. Our play is to spend quality time with the seafood dishes and many glasses of wine." - julia chen 1, lani conway
"An Oakland newcomer making surprising seafood-based compositions, including a hot dog crafted from royal red shrimp and scallops that reimagines a familiar street-food format using shellfish." - Adam H. Callaghan

"The people behind The Morris have opened a seafood and fried chicken-centric restaurant in the old Sister space in Oakland. Scallion biscuits and mashed potatoes are on hand as sides, or you can take the raw bar route with oysters and poached lobster. They also have seafood charcuterie, and for dessert, chocolate cake." - julia chen 1
"Sirene is the new restaurant from restaurant partners Paul Einbund and chef Gavin Schmidt, the duo behind San Francisco restaurant the Morris. The menu focuses mostly on seafood, with a few items getting the wood-fired oven treatment, like a grilled abalone dish dressed in garlic butter. Carnivores will also have a few meaty dishes to choose from such as the fried chicken. The Morris’s popular Chartreuse slushies will be ported over to the Oakland restaurant, but oenophiles will want to peruse the wine list from Einbund, a sommelier. Under Einbund and wine director Alec Cummings, the Morris was a finalist in the Outstanding Wine and Other Beverages Program category for the James Beard Awards." - Dianne de Guzman
