San Francisco’s New Restaurant Openings

"The people behind The Morris have opened a seafood and fried chicken-centric restaurant in the old Sister space in Oakland. Scallion biscuits and mashed potatoes are on hand as sides, or you can take the raw bar route with oysters and poached lobster. They also have seafood charcuterie, and for dessert, chocolate cake." - julia chen 1

The Best New Restaurants in Oakland, Berkeley, and the East Bay | Eater SF

"Sirene is the new restaurant from restaurant partners Paul Einbund and chef Gavin Schmidt, the duo behind San Francisco restaurant the Morris. The menu focuses mostly on seafood, with a few items getting the wood-fired oven treatment, like a grilled abalone dish dressed in garlic butter. Carnivores will also have a few meaty dishes to choose from such as the fried chicken. The Morris’s popular Chartreuse slushies will be ported over to the Oakland restaurant, but oenophiles will want to peruse the wine list from Einbund, a sommelier. Under Einbund and wine director Alec Cummings, the Morris was a finalist in the Outstanding Wine and Other Beverages Program category for the James Beard Awards." - Dianne de Guzman

Just popped by for coffee and pastries. For the coffee geeks, they’ve got a beautiful gesha on pour over from local gem Hydrangea (can’t find this stuff by the cup anywhere, so it’s quite a treat). The passionfruit cookie was so bright and delicious, not too sweet. The egg croissant was so luscious and done with a lot of love and care. Looking forward to trying their dinner service.

Google
Extraordinary dining and wine experiences. I’m converted. They have both creative seafood, and really nice staples like fried chicken.

Suechu Taing

Google
The service is excellent and the food is really good. I would recommend any seafood there. It was very fresh and super delicious. And cocktails were also very good. My husband and I got quite a few things to eat—drinks, seafood tower, mushroom porridge, and the fried chicken with all the fixings…and a slice of chocolate cake. Haha. Yes, we ate it all.

Gabrielle Pearce

Google
We started with an abalone (don’t miss out on the abalone), bread and butter, then the cod, and buttermilk ice cream(!) + chocolate cake for dessert. What an incredible dining experience. Elevated without being pretentious, it was a very curated, comfortable dining experience, which can be hard to find. Definitely will be back soon.

Google
Excellent all the way around! What a great addition to the neighborhood. Food was creative and each dish was delicious. Open kitchen and lively atmosphere. Drinks were unique and new… so refreshing to have something different to try! Looking forward to more wood fired dishes too.

Google
Very well done wonderfully flavored fresh food! So happy to have an amazing seafood resturant in Oakland! The service was fantastic and the food amazing. The whole experience is wrapped up in a beautiful setting - we love this place and highly recommend this to our family and friends.

Google
They did such a great job with the space! Love the music. The staff was very knowledgeable and attentive. Food was amazing, a little pricey but worth it.

Google
Absolutely excellent meal! Highly recommend the dumpling and cod. It’s nice to have a new gem in the neighborhood!

Yelp
Sirene opened where Sister once was. Came here for the seafood menu. Unbeknownst to me. It's available only at dinner. Soft music in background. Plenty of seating in backyard patio, adjacent room, tables in main room. Settled for a cup of joe. Discovered they serve Andytown Roastery and Mother Tongue de-caf, both favorites. Quick service. Short line. Got Joe quick. Offerings: eats-pastries, drinks: cold brew, drips, espressos, latte, cappuccino, macchiatos, teas, carrot juice. Sips: macchiato (5) -filled to the brim with covfefe and milk foam. Covfefe bold tasting even with the slight milk added. Slightly sweet too. Still prefer it black. -lst time tasting this. Love it. Good alternative. 5 stars: Worthy! Quality-fab. Quantity: same as others. Free parking Sundays. Back streets had parking.

Yelp
Excellent experience and fantastic, helpful service. All the food was great but the seafood was the star. We had a large group so my friend worked with restaurant to tailor a menu. It was seafood, meats, then dessert (and some veggies somewhere in between). The restaurant was super accommodating and helped us pick a nice wine. It was an excellent choice. The seafood tower came with uni, oysters, scallops, and shrimp cocktail. Everything was fresh and vibrant with seafood flavor. The follow up was a hamachi crudo that had a smokey sauce made from mussels, also very good. Their fried chicken was cooked and seasoned well. It was coated in a batter rather than typical flour breading. What made it special were the sides and sauces. My goodness - the gravy, red beans, and kimchi sauce. Plus the scallion biscuits reminded me of Chinese scallion pancakes flavorwise. Steak frites were good but not exciting as the rest of the menu. The fries and bearnaise were stellar, but the strip steak itself was okay. We've also ingested a lot of food by this point. Dinner ended with some spiced donuts and chocolate cake. The cake was good but the donuts were something special. I was full but made extra room. Side notes: The bread was amazing, I could have eaten half a loaf; I saw half a dozen orders at least of the fried anchovies, I will for sure get those next time.

Yelp
Score a resy if you can, because this place is amazing. Sat the bar area high top tables started with the chartreuse slush then shrimp chorizo which was ok, as well as the chicken. Mussels and the fish were the highlights of our meal. Place is packed by the time it opened with resys and walkins.

Yelp
Warm, welcoming and unique flavor profiles with the food. Arrived 5 minutes early and was ready just to hang and re-review the menu - instead they opened the doors early and graciously allowed us in. So kind and unexpected. Throughout the meal each interaction continued to be the same - joyful kindness. Decor so thoughtful and sea-focused. There are small framed wrinkly notes also - from the previous occupant's employees, tucked into the brick/mortar of the wall and the current owners decided to memorialize this - how reverent and sweet! Do: - oysters - super fresh - butter leaf salad great fibrous starter - gnocchi interesting mix of squash and seasonal veg like corn - fried chicken, moist and the crunch of the light batter - excellent - black cod, beautifully crisp skin, flaky fish - biscuits, small but mighty - check out the layers - collards, good bite and seasoning - buckwheat donuts - pillows of heaven - Meyer lemon custard, bright and perfect - vanilla bourbon ic - icy and lots of liquor I thought the lamb/uni dumpling was okay/good. Didn't really taste the uni - liked the mochi-like skin. The octopus kimchi was very salty and overpowered the chicken. Beware - no AC, yesterday was toasty - so make sure to wear breathable pieces/sit under one of the ceiling fans. So many unique items on the menu look forward to returning to try more. They have a section of the menu just for varieties of chartreuse, and incorporate it into their recipes. I loved the options of 'portions' for a lot of the items, allows for more grazing!

Yelp
It's been a while since I've written a Yelp review but I felt called to share my feelings bc I had a strong opinion. I was soooo looking forward to this place after SF Chronicle wrote an article about it and Infatuation also featured it in a post. That being said, I also read the Yelp and Google reviews and found them to be mixed (understandably). I'm afraid to say that the things people disliked about this place, were consistent with what I thought. The main thing being things were under seasoned. For some perspective, I'm someone that cooks with less salt at home, often the one that says things are too salty at restaurants, and yet, am shocked to type that this place is under seasoned. Perhaps it is because they really want you to taste the seafood, but I find sometimes the right amount of salt can bring out flavors. Sadly, everything felt a little bland. We had: - shrimp chorizo - this was not under seasoned but failed to taste the shrimp component. It was a raw sausage (I think) that was squishy and soft. Nothing impressive but unique to try - hamachi crudo - you'd call this a dish with "natural flavors" bc it's so...bland. Without the sauce (where the flavor comes in), you're eating fish with no flavor. But somehow the sauce still couldn't full wrap around the fish so I could taste sauce, and fish, but in a combined fashion if that makes sense - whole fish - definitely filling for two people but again, the fish was lacking flavor despite having a nice char. It was just butter garlic with parsley with no seasoning. I never expected to write a review with the biggest note being about it lacking flavor and seasoning but here we are. I didn't believe it when others wrote it. But they're right.

Yelp
10/10. I met the Chef of the hottest new restaurant in town at my company's gala. He was so kind and gave me a breakdown of what I should order for the reservation I had! A few days later, I came to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday and it was probably the best friend chicken I have ver had in my life. It's a special unexpected dish in a seafood forward restaurant. I highly recommend for everyone to order. The gnocchi was spectacular as well, we wiped the plate clean. Looking forward to the next time I come eat here!

Yelp
From the duo that opened the Morris, Sirène gets a lot of good publicity and it is worth the hype! You're going to want to try the fried chicken (quarter for $20, half for $35, full order for $60), the strongest of the land options. The birds are brined in buttermilk; battered in wheat and rice flour; and fried perfectly. Each piece has a light shell with a thin crackle and juicy. The sides sauce- octopus kimchi was delicious and gave it that extra kick! Another highlight is the duck and lobster mortadella: was heavenly! I also enjoyed the gin cocktail "Dempsey" with calvados, pomegranate and anise. Was very well balanced! There are also many wine by the glass options.

Yelp
A good friend recommended this new place to check out and we were able to drop in on Wednesday night without a reservation. Very excited to try but unfortunately we were not blown away with everything that we ordered that night. The appetizer (halibut crudo) and the main (black cod) were a bit under seasoned. Nothing was really special about the fried chicken either. Overall, nothing was good or bad, but glad we tried.

Yelp
New seafood place we have been meaning to try. I really like the host and server we had, both were welcoming and very friendly. They have a cool house wine option where you can order by the cm and whatever you don't finish in the carafe they remove from your bill. The house white was pretty decent. The hamachi crudo with passion fruit chile sauce was a great starter. Oysters were good and shucked well. The mussels were good and the broth was amazing but I wish they had brought out a bowl for the shells which ended up on our plates. The red uni was very unique but I'm not sure if this gave us GI issues the next day. The grapefruit ponzu that comes with it has a very interesting flavor profile too. Couldn't decide if we liked it or not but it's unique. The gnocchi was okay but not my favorite probably because I'm not a big fan of English peas. We got a half order of bread and the butter is heavenly. Still felt hungry so ordered the fish and chips. Small pieces for the fish but fresh and crispy. The aioli sauce is good. Fries were mediocre though - didn't taste very fresh. The dessert was a lemon custard that was fresh and bright, reminding us of a creamsicle. The space is darkly lit but has an upbeat vibe. Hope to sit on the side with the open kitchen next time because we were on the side with the high top bar tables, which is nice but are more private and quiet - better for conversation.

Yelp
Amazing seafood and knowledgeable staff. Very unique and coveted choices of chartreuse and I tried all of them. Good time.

Yelp
Mixed feelings here. Okay let's start off by saying the food was truly good but, everything else I believe needs help. Maybe it's because they're still trying to figure things out or I may need to try this place again but, try it out and make your own opinion

Yelp
Starting off this review by saying the prices they have posted online do not match in person, everything is slightly pricier in person by $5 dollars or more which was a little disappointing. Service was wonderful and everyone was so friendly. The vibe of this restaurant was swanky and chic, I loved it. Now onto the food, we started with the crudite and caviar ranch which was so fresh and crunchy. The abalone on the other hand was a pass for us. Not that it's Sirenes fault but I don't think we like abalone at all lol. For the mains we got the gnocchi and fried chicken with mashed potatoes and collard greens! The fried chicken was some of the best I ever had and the mashed potatoes were PERFECT! Collard greens were a little dry but the flavor was great. The gnocchi was a little overcooked but the crunch from the fresh peas balanced it out. For dessert we finished with the Meyer lemon passion fruit custard and it was the perfect sweet treat to end the dinner with. Definitely a pricey restaurant with portions leaning on the smaller side but I thought it was quite nice. Would love to come back again soon!

Yelp
I love this spot so much. The location is my favorite daytime cafe. Just in terms of architecture and ways to have a lazy cafe experience in the area. I had their smoked duck focaccia, not likely a consistent flavor but little did they know I'm a sucker for duck. The pastry box is as enticing as ever are made in house. They are competing with a lot of close spots for pastry, but having a great cafe is huge. One day I'll come for dinner, but this has always been a weekend chill spot for me.
google avatar

Yelp
Had an enjoyable dinner experience here. Great variety of seafood dishes. Solid cocktails. Friendly knowledgeable staff. They are the sister restaurant to SF's Morris and source some of their seafood from SeaStephanieFish. Definitely worth a visit.

Yelp
As a former customer of DiBartolo's, Boot and Shoe, and Sisters, I'm so happy to see Sirene continuing the tradition of a morning coffee and pastry spot for us locals. This might be the best version yet. My latte and amazing croissant were absolutely delicious. The service was excellent--I interacted with at least three staff members, all of whom were truly kind and helpful. And they made and served some seriously yummy food. Thank you!

Yelp
Loved (most of) the food, but there were weird quirks that we encountered that feel like they need to be worked out around service. I'll also echo what someone else noted: the prices online are a couple of dollars cheaper than in person, so just be prepared (for instance, the petrale sole is $55 online, and $65 in person). We started with ordering some wine and they were kind enough to let us try several different wines before choosing our glasses. After some recommendations from our server, we settled on the following: *Duck and lobster mortadella - while neither my friend nor I liked this, that's not to say it was bad; we were curious to try it, but just not something we'd order again. *Oxtail terrine - really liked this! I loved the peas in there. *Oysters - delicious. *Dumpling with lamb and uni - This was delicious. However, my friend did say 'did I really just pay $7 for ONE dumpling?'. And I'd agree, it feels weird to order one dumpling. It's just a weird perception thing and I'd optically prefer to see their menu say 'dumplings' and have it be 3 of them for $20. Just feels weird - who orders just one dumpling? *Mussels - this was tasty and I liked the spice of the soup. *Fried chicken and mashed potatoes - this is where we get into weird quirks. Both my friend and I like dark meat, so we asked if it was possible to request dark meat. The server explained that for the quarter chicken, it would be all dark meat, where-as the half chicken would be split. We told her that was great, that we wanted to get the quarter and that would be perfect as it would all be dark meat per her. So we were a little confused when one piece was white meat. We called her over and asked, and she told us that they can't put in requests and that sometimes the kitchen mixes it up. Really odd and confusing. if you can't take requests, tell us that; don't tell us that the quarter will be dark meat and then make excuses around why it's not. Some other quirks came up with our service as well. My friend ordered a second glass of wine (a different wine than her first), and the waitress brought a bottle out and simply poured it into her existing glass. For a place at this price point, we expected a new glass to be brought out. And then while they were clearing plates, a waiter poured me water in my glass, while my friend poured herself water, and the waiter made some weird comment about tipping her out at the end of the night - it just didn't come off as funny when she was trying to be nice and help. Would I come back here for the food? Absolutely. Their menu and food is delicious and I want to come back and try so many more things! However, the service quirks were odd. Also, for next time and others: I'd request to sit in the main dining room as the high top tables in the narrow walkway are really uncomfortable.
google avatar

Richard M.

Yelp
Oysters were Amazing. Fried chicken - so authentically Southern. Collards, potatoes very good. The octopus kimchi tastes like gumbo. The biscuit was overcooked. The wine fit perfectly (Italian by the glass). Lemon custard dessert with passion fruit and white chocolate was excellent. Bread was amazing; butter even better. Super cool wait staff.
google avatar

Alex S.

Yelp
I've been excited to check out the successor restaurant to Sister, and Sirene does not disappoint. I went in the morning for a coffee and pastry, and also went in the evening for dinner. The interior vibe is similar to Sister (not that it needed much changing) and the espresso and pastry choices were all delicious. For dinner I dined at the bar and had the sourdough loaf and the fried chicken for dinner. Fried chicken is well done and comes with a medley of tasty sides. Very glad to welcome a new entrant to the Grand Avenue dining selection, and a good one at that. Check it out!

Yelp
New seafood forward restaurant in the lovely grand lake neighborhood. Surprised at how large the space was with plenty of seating. We ordered the seafood tower, crab salad, dumpling, gnocchi, duck/lobster mortadella, and buckwheat donuts for dessert. The highlights for me were the dumpling which was rich in flavor and the duck/lobster mortadella which was unique and reminded me more of a pate. The donuts were also a delight and had such a nice savory nutty flavor to it which balanced out the sweet anglaise. Highly recommend this for friends or a date night. A little on the pricier side, but it pays in food quality and superb service.

Jade B.

Yelp
Love this place already! The service was great, they were helpful and nice. The ambience was dimly lit but nicely decorated... my cocktail was yummy! Most important the food was really good. The appetizers were just ok to me aside from the dumpling but the gnocchi and fried chicken and the two desserts were chefs kiss
google avatar

Kay Marie J.

Yelp
We've been to Sirene twice for dinner and sat at the bar both times. It was delightful and delicious on both occasions. We had the fish and chips once and the fried chicken next but the real treats are the appetizers and the sides. Finish with the sugar donuts in Chartreuse sauce...perfection.

Yelp
Went last night for Valentine's Day! We were greeted by friendly and efficient staff. The waiter was super knowledgeable about the menu, which is important because this is a fun menu! We can't wait to go back to try more items. Everything we had was amazing. The gnocchi I forgot to get a pic of, but it was our favorite dish of the night! It is an excellent spot for date night- and they also have coffee and pastries during the day.
google avatar

Yelp
New seafood Restaurant with amazing roasted fish. The fish is generous size roasted nicely with sun chokes and broccolini. The fresh local baked bread and butter amazing! Seafood terrine was very tasty. Then we finished with a not to sweet chocolate cake. It was a great dinner and the people working there are super friendly!!! Look forward to returning and trying the beautiful looking chicken next.

Jasmine C.

Yelp
came in the morning! both pastries i got were really yummy! i would come again to dine in.

Yelp
We came back for breakfast this time! It was perfect. My husband and the drip, I had the cozy latte and an egg croissant. It was perfection!

Yelp
I had a terrible experience with their customer service. I called to let them know I had a work emergency (I had to make an urgent report of child abuse) and would be late to my reservation and asked if I could move the reservation back. They said they didn't have anything until 8:30pm and that I was lucky and "just barely" missed their policy being instituted this weekend for a $35 cancelation fee for late cancelations. I understand this policy but as a business owner myself I also understand emergencies happen and a little kindness and understanding goes a long way. I have never been spoken to so rudely by any restaurant ever. Please be aware of this policy and their poor customer service.

Todd C.

Yelp
Was really excited to try this place out b/c the location has always hosted great restaurants. Had the salad to start (super fresh and delicious) and then the gnocchi. My friend had the fish and chips. We had the oysters as well. The reason for the 3 stars is that there were just a lot of little things that were off. The server tried to remember our order by memory and messed multiple things up. We were only two people. She had to come back once to the table to remember the order and still forgot to bring us the bread we ordered (and then tried to charge us for it). Oysters are now $5 a piece. Maybe that is the new normal but that seems higher than near by places. The gnocchi was good but it was swimming in sauce, almost felt like a soup. Great taste but super rich. Fish looked good but the chips were pretty mid. Everything seemed overpriced.

William R.

Yelp
It is with some regret I must differ from the many thoughtful reviews here which are filled mostly with high praise. In the interest of time, I will be maximally concise: Welcoming, charming Decent food - but not commensurate with the vibe or the prices Service - well intentioned but a long way to go to the top WAY TOO LOUD for our part of four A single scallop for $35 (that's thirty five dollars) - really? Nice place but I won't be back

Cintra W.

Yelp
First off, the food was good, if overpriced. The staff, however, were the rudest people I have ever met in my life. I was literally astounded. I never leave no tip -- never -- but I left no tip, they were such a******s.
google avatar

Dmitri N.

Yelp
We had a great time. The food is delicious but the ratios and balance can get off. Fried chicken was great but get at least half a bird to balance the sauces and extra biscuit. Look forward to trying the whole fish and the seafood tower.
google avatar

Sal C.

Yelp
My friends and I wanted seafood, but came away with SO much more! This place is a gem. The food is perfection - blending interesting ingredients to give your mouth an explosion of delightful flavors. It's a "fine dining" experience from the service to the ambience. The best part is that it doesn't feel at all pretentious, which some fine dining can. We started with oysters (they had my favorite - miyagi) and added the scallops too, which were delicate and devine. We had the halibut crudo, the blackened cod, and...well, yes we shared the fried chicken too! The chicken has been brined so it adds a different tasty dimension. Per the server's suggestion we added a side of mashed potatoes. I don't know what they did to those (besides lots of butter!), but they were amazing! I will definitely return to Sirene. Special note: Be prepared to pay for this experience. The portions are modest, but it's so worth it if you go in with the mindset that YOU are worth it! Enjoy!

K M.

Yelp
We have been for dinner at Sirene once, and were pleased -- the service in particular was excellent. But this review is primarily for the morning cafe, which is an absolute gem. The baristas are lovely, the drinks are good, the pastries and setting (indoors and outdoors, whether you're reading a book alone or meeting a friend to catch up) are OUT OF THIS WORLD. The cinnamon roll and egg croissant are my top favorites and I will happily eat them for days in a row, but everything is tasty. Oh -- and a shout out for having three different types of water (still, cold still, and sparkling) on tap for folks to help themselves to. Elevated and functional. The only thing that could further improve the morning experience is if the Rize Up loaves were available in the morning. (As whole loaves and/or the same individual portions sold at dinner.)
google avatar

Jim S.

Yelp
Made reservations a week prior for the Sunday Brunch. 5 stars! Hopefully they get some Michelin recognition soon because that's the vibe it was giving. Had the Gamay wine, chrysanthemum, uni toast, lobster terrine, crab omelette breakfast, sweet croissaffles, buckwheat doughnuts and passionfruit cookie. All the food was great! The portion sizes were great! Was in and out in less than an hour. The service was intentional and consistent. The lady who appeared to be an owner, let me taste the wine before pouring an entire glass. Every server was kind and worked very smoothly. Nothing seemed rushed or out of place. I love that they allow pets. The patio and indoor area is nice. I love the name on the steak knives and wine glasses. Love the seat cushions. Love the projector in the bathroom. The menu looks inviting and worth the visit. Everything went well, nothing negative about the experience.

Lucy

Yelp
Upscale feel and presentation. Service on point. One fish we ordered was sold out and what we got: fried chicken, cod, steak, were good but nothing to write home about. Very expensive .
google avatar

Nabila R.

Yelp
My god what a gem of a restaurant. I would eat the fried chicken for every meal if I could. Servers were attentive and kind and were so accommodating when we walked in. 11/10 would come back!
google avatar

Shelley T.

Yelp
Food was exquisite and great service. Don't come hungry though! Small portions and expensive. Huge wine list. Fried chicken was SOOOO good.

Richele P.

Yelp
We went to celebrate my two daughters birthdays. The food was fabulous, and service was good. We brought our grandchildren and it was a very enjoyable meal! Thank you!

Scott T.

Yelp
Great food, drinks, and service. The roasted eggplant and lamb dumpling appetizers are my favorite. Excellent seafood!

DJ S.

Yelp
Had a really nice experience here. Good cocktails and wine list. Oysters were delicious and pretty much all the other entrees and appetizers we had were well executed (mussels, dumpling, abalone, fried anchovies, uni).

Michael F.

Yelp
From beginning to end, our experience was top notch. Our wait person quickly brought water and took drink orders. She help to guide our appetizer choices and was accommodating when we made a change. The butter lettuce salad was huge and very fresh. The mushroom/truffle porridge was to die for. The lamb/uni dumpling was great but they should double the price and give you 3 instead of just one. Oysters were sweet and fresh. Our entrees were special. Get the fried chicken. I repeat - GET THE CHIKEN! You can get a 1/4, 1/2 or whole. It is perfect. Crunchy and flavorful on the outside and tender and juicy inside. The gnocchi was light as a feather. The albacore tuna was served rare and it was beautiful. We finished with a lemon custard that we shared and it was a great way to end. By the way, the house white is tasty, light and a great bargain.

Esme E.

Yelp
Fantastic food, lovely service and cozy but lively ambience. The standouts were the halibut Crudo and the fried chicken and the chocolate cake was divine. It's right next to Walden Pond books which made for an incredibly fun evening of dinner and book shopping. Seems like a Michelin star type place with the inventiveness of the dishes

Coco C.

Yelp
We really enjoyed our dinner at Sirene. The staff are friendly and professional. We really enjoyed every dish we tried and left planning to return to try more of their offerings! Highly recommend it. Give yourself enough time to park. The street parking is limited.

Kate S.

Yelp
I hate to give a negative review after only one meal, but the albacore dish was a miss on multiple levels. I've loved coming to this historic old warehouse when it was Boot and Shoe, and later Sister. I was in the area after work and all I wanted was a glass of wine and dinner after a long day. I ordered the $36 albacore entree. What arrived was a decent hunk of sushi-grade albacore, barely cooked around the edges (as it should be) and sliced into about 6 or 7 thick pieces. The fish was lounging in a puddle of brown liquid, which I was astonished to find was a rich and salty beef gravy - that's what it tasted like, at least. Why a decent, delicate piece of fish was paired with an earthy, heavy gravy was perplexing. Floating in the gravy were a few pinto beans - maybe 12 of them - three petite mussels, as well as some heavily charred, chopped up snap peas. The blackened snap peas made the gravy taste burnt, reminding me of my own efforts to cook Thanksgiving dinner as a student. As I ate the dish - which barely qualified as dinner-sized - I felt like I was eating a bowl of charred gravy containing chunks of neutral proteinaceous matter. The result was me going home, opening a bag of cheese doodles to snack on, and writing this review.

Yelp
Really mixed experience of good, bad, and things that will be eventually good once they work out the kinks. General theme of my meal: the less they messed with a dish, the better it was. Highlights were the tuna crudo, oysters, and bread with cultured butter. The service was very attentive and knowledgeable, and the ambiance retained all of the charm from the past two incarnations of this same space. The butter lettuce salad was almost great, but there was a lot of grit from not-quite washed lettuce. The mussels were almost good, but the broth was overly spicy and not that flavorful otherwise. The fried chicken was truly the worst I've ever had: dry, unseasoned, with a batter that just tasted like oil. Honestly not sure what they were going for. The collards were murky and chewy. The cheddar chive biscuits were the most mysterious things: perfectly made in every way, except they had way too much salt and a strong flavor of smoked fish. Weird and unpleasant, like biting into a chocolate chip cookie and finding a garlic clove. I'd go back for oysters bread and wine, but the mains were way off the mark.

Yelp
Checked out sirene for a date night. Seafood tower was decent but all of the seafood seemed overly salty and overall not worth the price tag. Steak was good, not great but would definitely give it a second try because service was friendly and attentive. Dumpling was a highlight of the meal.

Yelp
I'm totally in love with the morning cafe at Sirene!! The vibe is so warm and inviting, the pastries are out of this world, and the barristas, Nicole and Lo, are THE BEST! I'm so grateful to Sirene and the incredible staff for creating this gem of a community space for the neighborhood - thank you!
