Let me just start off by saying I don't typically leave reviews. But I decided to go out of my way to bring to light some of the disturbing incidents that took place during my recent stay at the Sixty-LES hotel. Long story short, this was the worst hotel experience I ever had in my life (and I travel A LOT).
First, during the entire 5 night stay, we only had our room cleaned 1 time. When our hotel was not cleaned, we were told housekeeping services needed to be requested 24 hours in advance. No one told us this at checkin. But we chalked it up to a miscommunication and requested it for the following day. When no one showed up the next day, we called again (multiple times) and were told the "delivery of fresh linens had been delayed." Not even sure what that means, but after much persuading the staff reluctantly agreed to clean our room. The job was lackluster at best. They left empty cups and trash, didn't clean the bathroom and didn't touch the balcony. Although we "requested" housekeeping services multiple times for the remainder of our stay, they never showed up again.
But that was only the beginning. Throughout our entire stay, the hotel staff was extremely rude, aggressive, unprofessional, and at times, highly confrontational. For example, I invited 2 friends to our hotel suite to have a few drinks before we went to dinner. The security denied my friends access to our room. When my friends tried explaining to the hotel staff that they were invited by guests of the hotel, the staff member began screaming at them and physically threatening them in the lobby in front of other guests. After this incident, the hotel manager apologized to us and told us that the hotel fired that staff member. I asked the manager why this happened in the first place and he told me the hotel apparently has an unwritten "no visitor" policy. I told the manager that I saw the staff allow other hotel guests to invite visitors to their room without issue. He responded that how the policy is applied is "up to their discretion." So basically... the hotel maintains a "discretionary" policy that allows them to deny any guests the right to invite visitors to their hotel room. But they won't tell you this at check in. Unfortunately, our stay only got worse after this.
This next example is what put the nail on the coffin and was what resulted in us checking out of this excuse-for-a-hotel 2 nights early. On this night, I invited 2 female friends (one of whom was an old friend from college who I hadn't seen in years) to meet us at our hotel. They did not have keys so we asked them to wait in the lobby for us to come down. During this time, the security guard began aggressively screaming at these women to leave the lobby. Despite my friends expressing that they were visiting guests of the hotel, the security told them they had to wait outside and began physically PUSHING the two women out of the building. All of this was caught on security footage and my friends are now preparing to take legal action against the hotel.
After this incident, we decided to switch to a different hotel for the remainder of our trip. Upon checking out of the hotel, I explained all of these incidents to the manager on site. Unfortunately, he was dismissive and unsympathetic to say the least. Worst of all, he cruedly asked "well... were the two women intoxicated?" I told him that they had not even begun drinking yet, and even if they did, how the hell does that make it okay for a security guard to physically assault two women for waiting in the lobby for their friends?! Rather than apologizing for his employees' vile and unprofessional behavior, the manager told us he did not have the power to refund us for any portion of our miserable stay.
Unfortunately, these incidents only represent a fraction of all the unsettling incidents and unprofessional behavior we had to deal with during our stay. I didn't even get into the two times we were denied entry into our own rooms, which we were paying for! Or the pull out couch that feels like what I would imagine a prison mattress to feel like. But by now, I'm guessing you get my point - Avoid this hotel at all costs!!! They don't clean your rooms. They assault guests. They assault women. They create fake discriminatory policies. And they do it all with no remorse. If you stay here, it will be the worst hotel experience you will ever have and will have you leaving NY with a truly awful taste in your mouth. I would give them negative stars if I could.
