Yelp
I drove by and for the first time since they opened I didn't see a line down the street.
As a lifelong cheesesteak eater I had to take this opportunity to get an American Wit.
I parked (backed in for a safe and easy exit) on the cobblestone under the overpass and when I got to the window there wasn't a person in front of me.
I put my order in, 1 American Wit, Un-seeded Roll, and Hot Peppers.
Oh, so you know, you order only sandwiches at RIGHT window anything else ya want, ya order at the LEFT window. The women that took my order was friendlier than most people at other local Cheesesteak places, I give her 5 Stars. It's always nice when employees are friendly to customers.
First thing I noticed when my steak was ready was that it had a good weight, that's a very good sign, and it made me anxious to get a taste of this heavy sandwich. 5 Stars on the this sandwich feels big scale.
This Cheesesteak passed the visual inspection easily earning 5 stars. Before the 1st bite I could see it was a high quality roll which for me that's a roll that is crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. The meat was plentiful with Ribeye covering the whole interior of the roll, the cheese was completely melted, nice portion of hot peppers, but for me it could have used more fried onions.
Time for the most important test, the taste test. Drumroll please..........5 Stars!
Damn this was very good! The Ribeye is fresh, I didn't observe them cutting meat while I waited but the quality and the tenderness of the meat suggests to me that they must be cutting unfrozzen Ribeye on the premises. That's the way to serve a 5 Star Philly Cheesesteak.
I have to admit that I didn't expect my experience to be 5 Stars. I am guilty of having had prejudged Skinny Joe's because I thought the long lines was only because the owner is well know in Philly but, I was very wrong.
My only complaint was it took longer than most places to cook ans serve 1 Cheesesteak but I'm not going to give less than 5 Stars overall because as I stated above the quality of the roll and the meat was worth the wait.
I see a long future for Skinny Joe's and with that long lines for us hungry customers.
P.S. I won't be surprised if very soon Skinny Joey's becomes a regular named location in the debates about "Best Cheesesteak in Philly"
