Wines from around the world & hip New American fare in a modern-rustic room with exposed brick.
"Slate Wine Bar was known for its 200-plus bottle list with flights in categories like 'sparkling' and 'interesting' reds, plus charcuterie and small plates like Iberian pork shoulder and grilled octopus. The approachable alternative to Xiquet also offered $70 prix-fixe menus with $40 pairings. The venue is closing to accommodate the expansion of Xiquet DL." - Evan Caplan
"This sangria at this Glover Park wine bar is named after owner Danny Lledó’s father, who accidentally used port in the recipe when he catered his own wedding. The twist on the classic is made with ruby port, brandy, orange, and lemon juice, garnished with dehydrated orange. Reserve a table for dine-in or place a takeout order at the restaurant." - Vinciane Ngomsi, Tierney Plumb
"Slate Wine Bar + Bistro, located downstairs from Xiquet, was previously an office space. It is now part of the renovation project that includes Xiquet. Didier Fertilati, a former maître d’ and manager from Michelin-starred restaurants, consults on service for both Xiquet and Slate." - Gabe Hiatt
"Slate Wine Bar + Bistro is reopening with a fresh look and new Spanish small plates from Chef-owner Danny Lledó. The new menu includes a variety of snacks, bites, small plates, and market-priced entrees, along with an extensive wine list." - Gabe Hiatt
"Chef Danny Lledó, owner of Slate Wine Bar in Glover Park, just flew home with the Accèsit (runner-up) award from the 59th Annual Paella Valenciana de Sueca International Competition. Only three other Americans have placed in the international Spanish competition since its inception. He expects to open wood-burning Spanish restaurant Xiquet above Slate (2404 Wisconsin Ave NW) in mid-October. Lledó has been making four huge paellas per week for practice. He’s sourcing orange, apple, and maple woods for its Xiquet’s stove and rotisserie." - Tierney Plumb
