The NYC Bar Hit List: Great New Bars In NYC

"This dark, sultry cocktail bar hidden inside the Manner Hotel in Soho (upstairs and from the same team as The Otter) feels lush and glamorous, like you’re drinking inside an antique gilded lacquer box. Yes, cocktails are $24, but strong enough that just one might do it for you. The drinks are subtly distinctive: a dirty martini for example is made with olive leaf gin—and is smooth and vegetal. Of the small bites, the main attraction is the fancy chicken nuggets, which, at $18 for six pieces, would be irritating, if they didn't achieve a near-perfect simulacrum of crisp McNuggets breading and also come with three sauces, including one with anchovies and sichuan peppers. Sloane's - Review - Soho - New York - The Infatuation

"If your natural charms have failed to convince your date that you’re alluring and mysterious, make a reservation at Sloane’s. From the entrance of the Manner Hotel in Soho, you’ll be escorted to the second floor. There, behind an easy-to-miss door, you’ll find a dramatic waterfall chandelier, colorful patterned rugs, sultry jazz, and spherical crystal table lamps, giving off the kind of dim lighting that makes everyone look good. Sloane’s feels lush and glamorous, splashed in jewel-tone reds, deep greens, and gold, like you’re drinking inside an antique gilded lacquer box. Cocktails are $24, but good, and strong enough that just one might do it for you. Though subtle, the house dirty martini is one of the most interesting versions of the drink we’ve tried in a while. For a slightly sweeter gin cocktail, look to the tart and floral London Calling, which is appealingly murky, and comes garnished with a caperberry. The menu of small bites here is short (sibling restaurant The Otter, downstairs, is where you’re meant to eat dinner), but it’s fun. The main attraction is the chicken nuggets, which, at $18 for six pieces, would be irritating if they weren’t so well made. photo credit: Alex Staniloff photo credit: Alex Staniloff photo credit: Alex Staniloff Food Rundown Dirty Martini The dirty martini tastes like you’re leveraging experimental AR beverage tech to experience olives in a new dimension, thanks to the inclusion of olive leaf gin. The result is smooth and vegetal, and not overwhelmed by brine. (You can upgrade to caviar olives for a mere $35, a casual 150% of the price of the drink itself.) photo credit: Yudi Ela Six-Piece Chicken Nuggets These achieve a near-perfect rendition of crisp McNuggets breading. The best evidence that they’re not the genuine article is that they’re uniformly round, not bell, ball, boot, and bowtie-shaped. They arrive with a trio of sauces: a peachy sweet and sour, BBQ, and a numbing, anchovy-tasting sichuan peppercorn, served in a doll-sized porcelain teacup." - Molly Fitzpatrick

NYC’s New Restaurant Openings

"Before it closed, Alex Stupak’s Mischa was briefly famous for its $29 dry-aged hot dog. While there are no hot dogs at the Empellón chef’s new restaurant in Soho’s The Manner hotel, you will find hot dog steamed buns at Sloane’s, his upscale bar in the same hotel. Cocktails are around $24, and include things like the Crimson Hook with bourbon, overproof rum, maraschino, amaro, and coconut water." - will hartman

Tucked away in Soho, this hidden speakeasy is by far one of the most exciting up-and-coming spots in the area. From the moment I walked in, I was struck by the classy ambiance—elegant yet unpretentious, with just the right lighting and a curated soundtrack that sets the perfect mood. The drinks are exceptional, with something for every palate—even for a dedicated scotch-lover like myself. The food was equally impressive—elevated but comforting. Behind the bar, Adam mixed cocktails with precision and warmth, making the experience both personal and memorable. I happened to meet Vane, the cultural director, whose passion and presence added another layer of charm to the night. They both made me feel like a regular, even though it was my first time there. If you're looking for a place that combines sophistication with soul, this is it. I’ll definitely be back.

I had high hopes for Sloane’s in SoHo, but unfortunately, my experience was far from great. To start, despite having a reservation at the bar, we were told to wait before being brought upstairs—why take reservations if guests still have to wait? The food was where things really took a turn. We ordered the chicken nuggets, only to find that they were raw—bright pink throughout. When I pointed this out to our waitress, she immediately responded that it was “supposed to be that way because of the seasonings” before even letting me finish. No, the chicken wasn’t pink due to seasoning—it was just raw. I explained that I don’t eat pink chicken, and thankfully, they removed it from the bill. The rest of the meal didn’t fare much better. The cottage fries were good, but the Brussels sprouts were grilled yet somehow raw and ice cold. The crab cakes were nothing memorable. For four drinks, an order of fries, raw/cold Brussels sprouts, crab cakes and the (thankfully comped) raw chicken nuggets, the bill was $200—not surprising for NYC, but disappointing considering the quality. Service was subpar from the beginning and only got worse after we sent back the chicken without ordering a replacement. The staff examined the chicken at the bar, making it clear they were discussing it, which felt unprofessional. After that, the waitress barely checked on us, and we ended up having to track her down after waiting an hour. Overall, the food quality and service were simply not worth the price. There are far too many great spots in SoHo to waste time (and money) here. Would not return and would certainly not recommend.

Adam is hands down one of the best bartenders I’ve had the pleasure of being served by. Friendly, attentive, and quick with a great drink recommendation, he made our night at Sloane’s feel special. He kept the vibe fun without ever missing a beat behind the bar. If you’re at Sloane’s, hope Adam’s working—he’s a pro.

Amazing cocktails! Loved the perfect martini. The homemade chicken nuggets that we had were to die for with 3 homemade sauces. A great place for pre dinner or a nightcap drink

One Star – Completely Unacceptable Behavior from the Doorman I’ve never written a negative review before, but I left this place feeling humiliated and shocked. I came here excited for a fun night out with my friends, but the doorman ruined the experience before we even got inside. He looked me up and down and actually told my friend I looked like a stripper — completely unprovoked and unnecessary. I don’t care what kind of place you think you are — no establishment that allows their staff to make degrading comments like that should be getting business. Women should be able to dress up and feel good about themselves without being shamed or insulted by some guy on a power trip at the door.

Amazing spot for a nightcap or bestie girls night! Great drinks, made by both Quinn and Adam and really good bar snacks. This has easily become one of our favorite local destinations in SoHo! Love the staff and energy. Will definitely be back soon :)

Sloane’s has a secluded - speakeasy vibe which is perfect for a date night after dinners. Our server - Scarlet (hope I spell that correctly) was attentive and offered to change my drink when I didn’t quite enjoy my first order (personal preference). Totally enjoyable and will come back to check other restaurant, The Otter as well!

atmosphere is sexy and cool. drinks were decent. but that’s the extent. food was not great and service was some of the worst service i’ve experienced in recent memory. my 4 top table had been there for 1h15m and were not finished with our second drinks and food before they came over to ask if we were ready for the bill, to which we responded that we’d like to continue to work on our drinks and if they needed the table, if possible to move us to another spot (many seats were open). the waitress walked away and without any discussion dropped off our check a minute later anyways. i spoke with the manager saying that we’d like to finish what we ordered. she was curt, unhelpful, and unwilling to find a solution. i had high hopes but unfortunately the lack of respect from staff including management puts this at the bottom of a long list of amazing other bars close by.

Yelp
Cool venue at the new hotel The Manner in Soho. Frank the lead bartender manager is fantastic. His cocktails are spot on. He's gracious and professional too.

Yelp
Sloane's did not disappoint. Four of us walked in without a reservation and spoke to the man running the door for them. We just wanted a quick pre-dinner drink and he said we could have a table for 1hr which was perfect for our timing. The hotel entrance and Sloane's bar are gorgeous, they were going for your rich friend's apt look and they pulled it off. The heat was a little too high inside so we were all hot but drinks were good. The Trinidad Sour was mostly ice but tasty. Chicken nuggets were big and came with 3 dips. Would come back if we can get in again.

Yelp
Forced to check coats and charged $10 for water when we requested tap water. Had to wait 15 minutes to get our checked coats on the way out. Horrible service, do not recommend.

Yelp
I was in town for my birthday, and decided to try Sloane's in the old Butterfly Lounge location, as it was a favorite. I don't drink, so really appreciated that there was a delicious mocktail on the menu. The mocktail featured N/A vermouth, and the small bites were good. I look forward to returning next time I am in the city.
