Went for the live music, and that was the only good thing about the entire experience. We got seated in the music area and got an appetizer (a hoe cake) and drinks in smoothly. Next time, the waitress took our food order, and the drinks came by shortly. Soon, the main course arrived: 2 meats (Jack Daniels glazed baby backs, brisket, and two sides of potato salad and mixed veggies).
The meat was cold. I understand good barbecue does need to rest after cooking, but the ribs were nearly cold and the bones were hardly above room temp. The side (the veggies were upgraded to a large) were basically two good bites a piece.
Even with the glaze, my ribs seemed bland, and the veggies were tasteless and barely cooked. Potato salad? Actually pretty damn good, so props there.
Still no sign of that hoe cake appetizer! Turns out it wasn't even being cooked at that point. Okay then, guess we'll reorder it and get it during the meal and music. Long story short: after having to get our own silverware and napkins, then eating the entire meal, we still never got it. And our waitress abandoned us to someone else after taking our food order. The other two tables under her watch? Totally fine with them.
So we ate, we sat there simmering, and had to badger our new waiter twice to get the check. We tried to cancel the appetizer - pretty much ready to just leave - and he left after confirming we wanted our check. Left my wife half-talking to herself basically.
Now, I'm not a rude or entitled guy, but having an appetizer take over an hour, being left by our server, and doing a small portion of my own service is a bit silly. And for our trouble, we got a boxed hoe cake for half off. Never seen a place comp like that - usually it's all or nothing. And it's got holes in it. Not trying to be a Karen, but if I gotta wait over an hour for some fancy cornbread, I'd like for it to look like it's worth the very, very extended wait.
For an $85 experience, I felt burned. Again, the music was nice. Maybe a bit too loud for that small space, but that's all I can really praise here.
Long story short: trust the reviews here. I hoped they were outdated, but they still hold up.
