Socarrat Nolita - Review - Nolita - New York - The Infatuation

"We like the original Socarrat Paella Bar quite a bit - and we're obviously not the only ones. So, as it goes when you've got a hot concept, Socarrat has begun its sprawl with a wine bar adjacent to its Chelsea flagship and a new, comparatively spacious location in Nolita. This Nolita location is exciting news for a few reasons, most notably that it's much larger and they take reservations. No more bumping elbows at Socarrat Chelsea's communal table and praying you don't get seated next to a lefty. Right? Wrong. The food at Socarrat Nolita is just as good as it is on the west side, and they even have a few exclusive paellas that we really like. But despite all that extra space, they have inexplicably occupied 40% of the room with a communal table. Now, we're all for group dining with strangers, but the only way you are having a comfortable meal sitting at this thing is if you have the body frame of Beaker from The Muppets. They need to pull about five stools away from the equation so you and your date won't have to deal with the lady next to you breathing on your calamari. Speaking of dates, we don't recommend coming here with a party of two, just for the simple fact that you're pretty much guaranteed to sit with the strangers. Come in a party of three or four, and you should be dining comfortably at a table made for people with shoulders. A good thing, considering you will be eating from a giant pan. Pan Tomaca Also known as pan con tomate. These are crunchy, smallish crostinis with a pretty good amount of tomato guts spread on top. We typically like this kind of thing, but have had better versions elsewhere. Namely, Casa Mono and Spain.Paella de Langosta This is the new lobster paella available at Socarrat Nolita. It's also got a whole shtload of other high end goodness from the sea, which is why it's the most expensive pan at $28 per person. It's worth it if you feel like getting your hands dirty on some langostines and cockles. If not, go for something less tactile like the Arroz Negro.Paella de Cordero* This one blew our minds a little bit. We're all for seafood, but the Cordero is a paella with just lamb, Japanese eggplant, and pine nuts. It's amazing. Food Rundown Gambas al Ajillo A pot of shrimp sizzling in olive oil, garlic and hot peppers. You'll see this in front of pretty much everyone at Socarrat. You should follow suit. It's good. Arroz Negro Paella Socarrat's signature squid ink paella with black bass, squid ink, shrimp, squid and scallops. Tasty, and guaranteed to make the inside of your mouth look like a Louisiana oil spill." - Chris Stang

25 Manhattan Restaurants With Heated Outdoor Dining | Eater NY

"Tapas joint Socarrat has heated outdoor seating at all three of its NYC locations, but the Chelsea outpost has a partially covered, heated backyard for outdoor dining. The restaurant accepts reservations for its outdoor seating and serves up a large selection of tapas including croquettas, fried artichokes, bacon-wrapped dates stuffed with cheese, and of course, a wide selection of paella as well." - Tanay Warerkar

NYC’s Best Bachelorette Party Restaurants | Eater NY

"Paella is basically party fuel in sheer size and complexity alone, and Socarrat isn’t shy about showing diners a fun — and gluten-free — time. Choose from several iterations of the signature dish, all priced per serving, like the arroz negro, packed with shrimp, calamari, white fish, scallops, piquillo pepper, fava beans, and squid ink sofrito or the carne with short ribs, chicken, chorizo, snow peas, and mushroom sofrito. Tapas, jamon, and queso boards are abundant, but a meal wouldn’t be complete without a pitch of sangria. Or many. At brunch, $39 buys a three-course prix-fixe, plus 90 minutes of unlimited sangria and mimosas." - Melissa Kravitz Hoeffner

My family and I love coming here for tapas, happy hour or dinner. Anytime we come we feel like family and we truly enjoy ourselves. If you can make it to a Tuesday night flamenco show, you will not be disappointed.

We had an AMAZING experience at Socarrat Nolita. Our server Wilor was truly the best. He ensured we were always taken care of and was very knowledgeable about the menu. Not only was the food and ambience amazing but the service was 10/10.

We went for the seafood paella and enjoyed the tapas dishes too. I loved the grilled calamari, the assorted cheese, cured meats board. Tuesday night with the flamenco performance was a perfect family outing. Even my niece (1 y.o) loved it too.

Google
One of our favorite Spanish restaurants in the city, and first time at this location. Everything we ate was delicious from the croquettes, brussel sprouts, lamb chops, chorizo & cheese platter. The wine recommended was really good too, glad we took a taste before ordering the bottle.

Google
I had an absolutely amazing experience at Socarrat! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was vibrant and full of energy. The live flamenco performance was breathtaking—both the music and the dancing were passionate and mesmerizing, adding an authentic touch to the evening. The food was just as spectacular. The tapas were bursting with flavor, each dish perfectly prepared and beautifully presented. And the paella—wow! It was cooked to perfection, with rich, traditional flavors that transported us straight to Spain. The combination of incredible food, outstanding service, and an electric flamenco show made this an unforgettable night. This is an experience I will definitely repeat with friends, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a true taste of Spain!

Google
The paella reminds me of my time in Spain, it’s perfectly cooked and crispy around the edges. Two portions is more than enough for three people. The croquettes and churros were delicious too! The aioli on top makes the croquettes better than others we’ve had in town. We will be back - I’m looking forward to trying the seafood paella next time!

Google
Amazing food, a space you can actually talk w/o yelling, and super friendly staff. Recommended Paella! Good favor and decent portion. We ordered 3 Tapas (grilled squids, croquettes, hams) and paellas with cocktails. Finished with a dessert (forgot the name but it's fried toast with ice cream on the side). The waiter was really nice. The Moscow mule was not on the menu but they still made an amazing one for me. He also proactively offered to mix the Pealla for us because we girls just kept talking. Lol. The restaurant is not overly loud so we can actually talk without yelling at each other. Great spot for us girls to hang!

Always a great time. Stopped in here for a brunch before doing some shopping. In SoHo. Loved the Bacon Egg and cheese paella. Also the milanesa was very good. Love the sangria at brunch. But even better was the lovely service that we had. Everyone was very friendly. A must go for a low key brunch w great food and lovely people taking care of you 🫶🫀🫶

Yelp
This restaurant is so good if you want to eat paella! Authentic flavor from Spain, clean and appetizing presentation. The decor is welcoming and lovely The service was excellent and friendly we were treated like family! Definitely recommend and we will go back for more paella and try something else from their menu.

Yelp
Haven't experienced authentic paella so I have nothing to compare this to.. so with a blind eye, this restaurant is okay! When I walked in, there wasn't a hostess to greet and sit us down so I was just kinda standing there waiting for someone to come. Not really a good first impression Ordered soccarat and the rice is a little salty but not overwhelming. I love how big the pieces of shrimp are and there's a good amount of mussels/clams/fish/chicken. I don't feel like they skimp on the ingredients The tapas on the order hand... not my favorite. Coles de bruselas are crispy brussel sprouts but the crispness is nowhere to be found. The flavor is really good though. Patatas bravas, crispy potato cubes, also lacking crispness. When something says crispy, I am expecting CRISSSSSSSSPPPY and these were just not it Also ordered a gin and tonic and it came in a huge wine glass so that is a brownie point. The food also didn't take long to come out Saturday 8pm was surprisingly empty. Found street parking right in front of the restaurant

Yelp
I've been wanting to try this place forever and finally visited for restaurant week! I wasn't sure what to expect but was more than pleased with my experience. The servers are all friendly, the atmosphere is warm, and best of all - the food is delicious. We had the traditional Paella Socarrat per our servers suggestion and the combination of chicken, seafood, and perfectly crispy rice was incredible. We devoured the entire plate. There was a mix-up with the servers and they accidentally brought us an extra glass of wine which they let us keep on the house. I'll definitely be coming back at some point in the near future!

Yelp
Delicious paella spot! I came one evening with one of my friends on a whim, and I'm so glad we checked out this spot. The inside of the restaurant is dimly lit, warm, and romantic. Our waitress was so lovely in explaining the difference between the paellas, their menu, and the best way to eat the paella. I totally forgot the name of the paella we got, but we just listened to our waitress for recommendations and ended up getting a seafood paella. It was so delicious, with lots of strong flavors and seafood in it. Would love to come back and try some of their other paellas!

Yelp
Staff were super friendly and it's a cozy intimate spot that doesn't get too loud. We had a dinner for 4 a la restaurant week and had an absolute blast. Pan con tomate pretty dang good as well! My friend and I r big croquetas fans and definitely will be coming back to try the daily flavors on our night they were filled with chorizo and were great. Brussels sprouts are solid about what you would expect croquettes and gambas you don't want to skip out on. Paellas were marvelous great sea food not too much fish broth and of course the name of the restaurant refers to the crispy rice at the bottom of the paella pan and that didn't disappoint either. Staff was very polite we had such a good time we didn't realize we were the last party there . If you're looking for your paella fix in nyc congrats you just stumbled across a great one. Salud y besitos

Yelp
Good to the last bite or drop. Any of the other two branches are really good with many flavors from Spain. Try the socarrat from the paella, amazing.

Yelp
First time here and tried the paella which was amazing! It was enough for two people. It's a very calm, intimate place with dim light. The server was very attentive and service was great.

Yelp
Nice cozy restaurant- came here with family for restaurant week. Our server was great and gets 4 stars. He was hussling between many tables. Very friendly and efficient. We ordered the following tapas for our appetizers: croquettes, shrimp and brussel sprouts. Tasty all around! For our paellas - we ordered three options: paella socarrat, paella arroz negro and paella de la huerta. Most flavorful option was the 'la Huerta' version. The other options might not have been as flavorful was because the ingredients may have been added on top of the rice and didn't have enough time to absorbed the ingredients' flavors. Still good but we had high hopes for the flavor. Desserts - flan was hands down the better choice over churros.

Yelp
Socarrat has a few locations around the city and serves up traditional Spanish tapas and...you guessed it...paella. My friend and I decided to give it a try and made a reservation through Seated. We ordered Red Sangria to start-I have to say, it wasn't my favorite but it was pretty decent-I think it needed to be a more sweet and a little less dry. We tried a few items. The Patatas Bravas were a tad underwhelming, but we loved their Crispy Brussels Sprouts which were perfectly sauced and delicious. We had the De La Huerta Paella, which is their vegetarian option. We enjoyed it-it could have used a bit more flavor/salt, but overall it was a tasty meal that was reasonably priced.

Yelp
I had the vegetable paella, tortilla de patatas, and special grilled artichokes. The artichokes were nothing special. I enjoyed the tortilla - savory and rich, and the grilled shishito and pan con tomate provided nice contrast in texture and some acidity. The paella was nice and had a great balance of flavors. The rice was cooked to an almost risotto-like texture. I also had a drink, but it mostly just tasted like pineapple juice and nothing else, so mostly unremarkable. The meal was quite expensive at $75 before tip, which makes it a bit tough to recommend.

Yelp
I so desperately wanted to enjoy this restaurant, but let me tell you what happened. We got 2 starters--mushrooms on creamy potatoes and brussels sprouts--both of which were amazing. We did not leave a single crumb left on those plates. The paella on the other hand was very poorly cooked. The very top layer of rice was not fully cooked, and the bottom layer was soggy (not crunchy from the heat of the pan). Not only that, the mussels were RAW, slimey, and fishy (which was weird since the shells were all open). I've had better paella at low-end restaurants. This being one of the star dishes at the restaurant, I was very disappointed. We told the waiter before asking for the bill. The waiter said he will give our feedback to the chef/cook. Overall, I would pass on this restaurant's paella.

Yelp
Socarrat is a restaurant that offer "for real" Valencia style paella. Sure there are many many restaurants in New York (and in New Jersey) that call themselves "paella restaurants" but they can be considered "arrocerias" - (rice restaurants) they are NOT authentic paella bistros. There is a huge difference between a "rice" and a Valencian paella. All the Socarrat locations offer true "Valencia-style" paella and they absolutely deliver. Socarrat also offer great Spanish tapas menu (including the super popular Datiles con Bacon - Bacon wrapped dates) and other tasty options. But the real reason you go to this restaurant is to enjoy paella "toasted rice" before Bobby Flay stole the "crispy rice" concept. Socarrat Nolita is a small restaurant so be sure to make reservations ahead of time. Surprisingly the restaurant can squeeze in more people than you would imagine. As a bonus, they even offer flamenco dancers on Tuesdays! The service at Socarrat Nolita is incredible. Front of the house has a small bar that offers authentic Spanish beverages and wines. And waiter and server service is prompt, fun, courteous and professional. If you have a craving for a little feel of Spain or really want to have the Paella Valenciana experience, then make a reservation at Socarrat Nolita. You will not be disappointed!

Yelp
Came here for restaurant week and food was amazing. The croquettes and Brussels sprouts Tapas and paellas was so amazing but was not a fan of the date covered in bacon. Got a pitcher of sangria as well that's as really good and can fill up to 5 glasses. Ambiance was good.

Yelp
Food, service, drinks, and ambiance are all on point. We'd never had paella with lamb in it, but it was the delicious special that day and a great choice.

Yelp
Food overall is pretty mediocre. We tried the Gambas Al Ajillo and the Croquetas to start. The shrimp had no seasoning whatsoever and you can only taste the olive oil and garlic that it's flooded in. The Croquetas, however, were marvelous and we recommend getting this. I believe it had potatoes in it when we went, which were divine. The portions are pretty small though, considering the price, and we were only able to get a bite each. For our mains, we shared the Arroz Negro which came with a lot of quality seafood. I was not really a fan of the sauce that it came with, and by the end of the meal, the paella just made me feel nauseous. They do give pretty generous portions for the paella, so make sure to be conservative when ordering this. It also stains your teeth a bit black, which was pretty funny during our meal! To finish, we got the churros, which came with a chocolate dipping sauce. For an upscale Spanish restaurant, this was such an underwhelming disappointment, as it lacked flavor and felt cheap that it was just two small pieces with some chocolate. We recommend skipping this if you decide to go. We have been here a couple of times but the food and service are pretty constant. My one complaint is that once during winter, we were seated right in front of the heaters, which were on full blast. We asked the waiters if it would be possible to lower the strength a little bit, but they said that nothing could be done since those were the only heaters warming up the whole restaurant. By the end of the meal, our party was drenched in sweat.

Yelp
I fell upon Socarrat Paella Bar in Nolita when searching for a spot to take my mom for her birthday. She and I both love Spanish cuisine (who doesn't?) and on top of that, they have live flamenco performances on Tuesday nights. It was a perfect combination of what I was looking for. I wanted to be transported to a different country in the middle of NYC, and Socarrat most definitely accomplished that. That element enhances your dining experience to another level when the atmosphere allows you to escape from whatever reality is going on outside its doors. It invigorates a multi-sensory experience, rather than using a monotonous form of consumption, like only taste and smell (think of a common fast-food experience). Successfully accomplishing something like that is exactly what keeps customers coming back (a.k.a. me). Naturally, I had to order a pitcher of sangria. I don't necessarily lean towards sweeter drinks, even with wine, so sangria can sometimes be risky. I prefer more bold and dry wines, so I want my sangria to not taste like I'm drinking jungle juice. I was pleasantly surprised that the sangria meshed perfectly with my palate, we ended up drinking a majority of the pitcher. Definitely recommend! Being it was Restaurant Week, Socarrat had its own prix fixe menu to sample. One appetizer each, one paella to share (if you've never had paella, one is more than enough for two people - that's why they do 1 paella per 2 servings), and one dessert each. Appetizers: Gambas al Ajillo & Croquetas (Bechamel and Spinach) Shrimp was cooked nicely in a rich olive oil & garlic base. We used bread to dip into the oil Could've done without the croquetas, the taste wasn't necessarily my favorite Entree: Paella Socarrat (chicken, chorizo, shrimp, white fish, squid, mussels, clams, fava beans, peppers, tomato sofrito) When I tell you this paella was one of the best and closest to the authentic paella in Spain - believe me. The taste was so beautifully harmonious with just the right amount of salt and flavoring added. The caramelization of the rice on the bottom gave a crisp but soft texture to the rice. The technique of this paella is well carried out. Dessert: Churros con Chocolate & Flan I'm not even the biggest fan of flan and this flan was to die for. It wasn't overly milky or sweet. It was the perfect combination of texture and taste The churros with chocolate were good, but nothing to rave about. I preferred the flan The hospitality was incredible from the jump. I had made a reservation days in advance for my mom's birthday and they had originally sat us in the front of the restaurant where the stage wasn't entirely visible. Being it was my mom's birthday and first time seeing a flamenco show, I asked if we could be moved towards the front center of the stage for her. They were able to thankfully oblige and help, which was much appreciated. They ended up getting us the perfect spot with a front view of the performers and my mom was very happy. Our server was also incredibly delightful and accommodating. She shared some input about Sevilla when she overheard me talking about it to my mom, which was so nice to hear. I always welcome friendly conversation about travels, especially - it's a nostalgia thing. I had also mentioned my mom's birthday to her and she came over during dessert with a scoop of ice cream with a candle. She personally sang my mom "Happy Birthday," which was super sweet and unexpected. Overall, this place really made you feel comfortable, cared for, and fully satisfied in every way. 10/10 recommend!! Thanks for an amazing experience :) Review is via my blog: https://www.doublemacchiatoblog.com/

Yelp
My friends and I came by Socarrat during Restaurant Week earlier this year. The restaurant was busy and our seat by the kitchen doors was quite cramped. What we got: - Croquetas del día (chicken) - Gambas al ajillo (shrimp) - Chorizo w/ fava bean pesto - Coles de bruselas (Brussels sprouts) - Socarrat Paella - Chuletas De Cordero (Lamb Chops) - Bacalao a la plancha (Fish) - Flan - Churros con chocolate Final Thoughts: The whole table had to participate in Restaurant Week and each main required at least 2 orders. I'm glad we got the set menu though as it allowed us to try a number of different dishes.

Yelp
An authentic Spanish experience! The tapas are out of this world delicious. The wait staff are attentive and add to the friendly atmosphere. I highly recommend stopping for the evening.

Yelp
FIVE STARS....... Visiting from California, me and my friend ordered their Paella, gambas al ajillo and their croquettas, per waiter's recommendation and we were not disappointed. Everything was appetizingly delectable. Will definitely be back again

Yelp
We always frequent this place for Spanish tapas. Love the gambas and croquettes, and have always been happy with the service. Been awhile since we had their paella, it's overdue. By now we know the servers and they provide excellent service.

Yelp
Came here with my boyfriend on a Friday night during restaurant week. The place was very crowded and the seating area was also pretty small. We made a reservation before coming so we were able to get seated right away. Their restaurant week menu was $45, which was a pretty great deal for tapas and paella! For appetizer, we got gambas al ajillo and croquets (mushroom on that day), for main, we got the paella arroz negro, and for dessert, we got churros and flan. Gambas al ajillo: 4/5 the shrimps was perfectly cooked with a nice chewy texture. It was lacking a bit flavor though. I even tried eating the garlic that was there and it didn't really have much taste to it. Croquette: 5/5! It was mushroom for the croquette of that day. It was crispy on the outside and very soft and creamy on the inside. It got a little cold by the time it got to the table but it tasted great regardless! Paella: 4/5 I had a very hard time giving a rating to this. The flavor of this paella was out of this world! Every bite of it was sooo flavorful and it could easily be one of the tastiest things that I have eaten. BUT the texture of the rice was pretty off. Instead of being crispy, the bottom of the rice was very hard and it made it a little unpleasant to eat. I'm not sure if it had to do with the fact that they had a busy night but that was a little disappointing given how great the flavor was. Desserts: 4/5 The churros was crispy and fluffy yet the chocolate sauce that came with it was a little bitter for me. The flan was just okay for me. I guess I'm never really a big fan of flan to begin with but just wanted to try more things. Sweetness level was perfect but I wish it was a little more smooth. Last but not least, the service! Staff was nice and friendly and they were attentive even though it was a busy night! We were seated at a very small table in the middle of the restaurant at the beginning. The seats had no back and there were no hooks under or next to the table so we had to hold our jackets on our laps. (We found out later that you can coat check. Just an fyi if you come here if you have no space for your coat or jacket!) The owner/manger probably saw that we weren't very comfortable at our table so he came to us and asked us if we needed help with anything and we were able to switch our table! Overall great service but was a little disappointed with the paella. Hopefully it was only a one time thing because of the busy night!

Yelp
This has got to be my favorite place for authentic Spanish tapas and paella! Had reservations for this place at 7 pm on a Monday night. It's a great place to come on a Monday it seems as it wasn't packed and there were plenty of open tables. I've been to both their Chelsea and Midtown location but I think I liked the Nolita location the best because of how chill they were and how not packed the place was. For appetizers I highly recommend ordering the patatas bravas and the gambas al ajillo! They were both so flavorful and delicious. You won't regret it! Next for the entree we decided to get the arroz negro Paella which was full of delicious seafood and a good portion size for two people to share. We were super stuffed by the end of the meal and had to pack the rest of the paella to go. Also loved the ambience and friendly staff at this place and would definitely come back to this location again!

Yelp
Found this place randomly walking around the area and there were people eating outside. I don't think I realized how much I was in treat of a show to go along with a small meal. I loved the experience. The dancers were amazing! The place was electrifying! All this on a warm weekday in the city. I would definitely come back and bring friends and family. The food and drinks were good. Staff were nice. Between the entertainment and experience it was very welcoming to be immersed in the culture. Some people got up and danced. It was an overall fun and exciting experience. Highly recommended visiting!

Yelp
We tried out this spot when craving paella. We got jamon iberico boards for app and it was fine. Then we got pescadi y marisci for paella. There was good amount of seafood but the rice was a bit undercooked. Overall, the place was a bit overpriced and didn't meet our expectations.
google avatar

Vivian L.

Yelp
We went for happy hour at the bar and everyone had a great time! There was plenty of seating when we first arrived but it got very busy later. The bar is small but there is a lot of tables. I think the happy hour is only at the bar though. There were a lot of options on the menu. Everything tasted great and I would definitely come back!

Yelp
I had a craving for paella and Socarrat was the perfect place to satisfy that craving. The seafood (pescada) paella was delicious and even had some crunchy rice that the server helped us scrape off the pan. We ordered a starter - some delicious lamb chops over mashed potatoes - to hold us over while the paella was being cooked. My mojito was so-so (too much lime, no sweetness), but the glass of Cabernet I ordered later was good. We finished the meal off with some cappuccinos and chocolate beignets. Attentive and friendly service. Great energy and vibe. The place was packed on Saturday night, making it a tad loud for conversation, but still a very enjoyable experience.

Yelp
Drinks were great , food was also great . I came here on a Sunday and it was super quiet but it was a really great experience and food was amazing not sure why it was so quiet !

Yelp
Loved the ambiance here - perf date night vibe or girls dinner. The sangria de cava was small portion wise but tasty and very refreshing. We had the octopus which was tender and very yummy and always a favorite. The bacon egg and cheese paella was yummy and flavorful but I wish the rice wasn't as hard as it was - usually only the bottom bits should be crunchy if you resist to stir but a lot of the top was harder than I expected.
google avatar

Yelp
Maybe it's me being silly but please please please note that there is a 30 min wait time for the paella! I didn't see a note on the menu besides the minimum of 2 servings per order but this is definitely a key tip. Usually ordering some apps should fill this space but I came just to try the paella. I ordered 2 servings of the negro paella with the seafood, which is the top recommended fish! Funnily enough it's not the Socarrat paella which is the namesake haha. It's served in a large cast iron pan, with a very shallow depth, but very nice to look at regardless! That was enough food for myself and 1 other person so we were quite happy, and the taste was good. Towards the end it got a bit salty but there was a decent amount of seafood in there. The service was excellent - our waiter actually helped us to prepare the crispy bits of the paella from around the pan and mixed it with the rest of the paella. Would love to come back with a bigger party to be able to try more dishes.

Yelp
I made resv so there was no waiting. Service was good and the food was delicious! We ordered Croquetas and Gambas Al Ajillo as appetizers and socarrat paella to share. Best paella so far among those I've tried!

Yelp
Came here for a friends birthday during restaurant week and ordered everything on the preset course. I have to say, the best thing on the menu was probably the complimentary bread and the shrimp tapas. The flavor of the oil was scrumptious. The paellas that we had were good, but nothing special to them. The rice did have a texture similar to Korean bimbimbap, but the seafood on top was nothing special. The shrimp form the original paella was very bitter. The lamb chops that they also gave were very tiny and lacked seasoning. I'm happy that I tried if, but don't think I will be coming back here.

Yelp
The socarrat mini chain in NYC is one of my absolute favorite go-tos. The Nolita one has the added benefit of live flamenco a couple of nights a week. We come here mostly for the happy hour, where some of the tapas are half off (not a deal you can find in many places in nyc!). The food is always delicious. My go-tos are the octopus, patatas bravas, the garlic shrimp, and the shishito peppers. We also like the black rice paella, and split it between 3 people.

Yelp
Me and my friend came here during restaurant week to take advantage of their $39 3 course menu. Although I'm giving this place 3 stars, their service is 5. I've just been to better paella restaurants, so this one was slightly disappointing. I did not find their paella to be as good as other places I've tried. It was very dry and a little too hard for my taste (the roof of my mouth is actually raw from crunching on the rice). However that's just me, my friend seemed to love it. The shrimp was also mediocre, it was just slathered in garlic and oil. However, their mushrooms in cauliflower purée was so yummy. Apologies for not having the name of the tapas, but they're definitely on the menu. We also bought a bottle of wine. I really wanted a semi-sweet red wine, but despite their huge wine selection, they didn't have anything sweet. Monetnelsss, our server was the sweetest guy in the world (shame I didn't get his name). He came over with two samples of a red and white and had us try it and although we did not like either of them as well, we still ordered a bottle just because of the attentiveness he showed us in trying to find what we wanted. However, the best part about the night was the Flamenco. The musicians and dancer were incredible. I don't really like the layout of the restaurant because it is hard to see the entertainment on the left side of where the musicians and dancer sit, unless you're sitting in one of the back tables directly in front of them. However, I did not mind getting up and taking my videos because it was just that good. They're here at 7:30PM on Tuesdays so don't miss out.

Yelp
Can't decide between 4 stars or 5 stars. I'll go with 4 stars because it's a bit pricey - but similar to what you'd find at other Spanish / paella places. I've been meaning to try Socarrat for a while, and was finally able to rally my friends to come during Restaurant Week. They have a few locations throughout the city and I chose Nolita since most of my friends live closest to this one. We got to try so many things: == Appetizers == GAMBAS AL AJILLO (shrimp): Pretty good, but nothing unique. CHORIZO...CHORIZO sausages: I enjoyed these. Pretty juicy and had a kick to it. CHAMPINONES A LA PLANCHA (mushrooms): Pretty good and creamy CROQUETAS: Really good!! I like the crunch of the outside and it was delicious all around. == Mains == Lamb Chop was pretty good, and tastes how you expect. I loved the potato it came with, as did the rest of the table. == Paellas == We got 2 paellas: SOCARRAT and DE LA HUERTA (vegetarian). As a meat-lover, Socarrat was definitely better. Every bite had either a shrimp, a chicken, a clam, a mussel, you name it. I love the crispiness of the rice. Be sure to stir your paella when you get it!! De la huerta was good too, just not as flavorful as the Socarrat. == Dessert == The churros and chocolate were nothing special, I'd skip it. The flan - get the flan! So freaking good. It seems like the kitchen forgot our order or something because we were waiting for a tad too long, but they brought up 2 more appetizers for our table unprompted which definitely made up for the wait! They also comped the second round of drinks for the table. So that was really nice of them and more them enough made up for the wait. I will be back!

Yelp
The seafood paella was very good. Enjoyed it more than the fideua. Great service. Nice place. Good cocktails. We frequent here for our paella fix.

Yelp
I've dined at a different location for Socarrat previously and didn't realize where I made this resy until on our way to the restaurant. Oops, my bad. Prix Fixe meal was bountiful! We enjoyed everything and left stuffed. There were 7 of us and we got 5 or 6 apps, 3 paella and 3 desserts. Gambas were good. Board with Iberico Jamon and other meats and cheeses was yum. The table included nuts and olives, patatas bravas, albondigas (meat balls) and some kind of bruschetta-like dish. We chose the Socarrat, Arroz Negro and Langosta paella. The spicy margarita had a kick but not too much. This was a business dinner and even though the place wasn't too crowded, the noise level was pretty high. Overall though, a very good experience.

Yelp
My friend and I were looking to partake in restaurant week. This place caught our eye because we both had not had paella in a while and wanted to get some again. So we made a reservation ahead online. EXPERIENCE We had a reservation for two at 7:30 but we arrived early at 7 and they were still able to seat us. We were given regular menus and had to ask for the restaurant week menu. The server walked us through the specials of the day and how the $45 restaurant dinner deal worked. Each person gets one appetizer and one dessert. We could choose to share one of their three paella flavors, as they are offered as a minimum of two servings, or one of their two other meal options. We placed our order, my friend has a dairy allergy, and requested no cheese on her salad. The appetizer course came, and she was mistakenly given cheese, but they changed that quickly! The rest of the meal was very standard. FOOD Restaurant Week Deal: (4/5) Daily Croquette: Squid - 4 pieces. Decent sized chunks of squid inside. Evenly fried, good garlic aioli, creamy inside but not too heavy. (2/5) Paella Arroz Negro - This was super salty! I had to drink so much water. The dish was huge, intended to be shared with two people. I feel like we could've finished it but the salt made it too difficult. The seafood was good, not over cooked, I really enjoyed the scallops. The rice was an interesting mix of textures. Some was soft, some hard. I wasn't really sure if it was undercooked or just crispy from the bottom of the pan. (4/5) Flan - this was delicious. A bit overkill on the whipped cream. The flan itself held its shape well. It was creamy and not eggy. The caramel on top wasn't too sweet. Overall big fan! OVERALL The saltiness of the Paella really ruined it for me. I was experiencing dehydration for the rest of the night. Maybe it was just their seafood one that was extra salty, but unfortunately I would not recommend this place.

Yelp
Went here for restaurant week and it was solid. I thought the appetizers, especially the croquettes, were really delicious. As for paella, my group and I tried 3 diff ones (socarrat, arroz negro, and carne) and I thought the carne was for sure the best one. It had so much flavor and the meat was really tender. I was not a fan of the socarrat personally bc I felt like it didn't have a lot of flavor. Ambience is really nice and the service is great too.

Yelp
I feel like the taste changed from when I first came here a few years back. The prices were kind of pricy per serving of paella. They do have happy hour but it's only available at the bar. I got the red sangria for my drink. For food i got the arroz negro paella and the chicken one. It's definitely enough food and they're known for that charred rice on the bottom so it's fun to scrape that part. Taste wise though it was a little bland especially the arroz negro. For dessert we got the churros and flan. The churros were meh tasted a little stale but the flan was really good!

Yelp
Ordered their restaurant week special menu, and it's a great deal for only $20.21! Comes with a choice of paella and mushroom croquettes. I opted to pay a bit extra for the Pan con Tomate since seamless also had an extra $4 off your first order with the restaurant. 1) Arroz Negro: Generous amount of seafood. The rice was not as flavorful as I thought it would be, ended up adding a bit of garlic oil and chili to mine to spice it up a bit. Overall, still decent paella. 2) Mushroom Croquetas: I popped these in the airfryer for a couple minutes to crisp them up again, and that did the trick! Perfectly crunchy outside with a soft and creamy inside. Comes with a garlic aioli sauce, but the croquettes are pretty good on its own. 3) Pan con Tomate: this is your usual bruschetta with toast. Comes with a garlic spread and the tomato confit. I wish they gave a bit more tomato though because I did end up with a leftover slice with only the garlic spread.

Yelp
Socarrat Paella Bar is a nice Spanish tapas treat in a sea of Italian restaurants at the top of Little Italy on Mulberry Street. The paella is fantastic, with good drink options and a really nice atmosphere. My only complaint (and suggestion to management) would be some more traditional or ambient music for a high class restaurant. Tonight was apparently "classic rock" night with Aerosmith and Bachman Turner Overdrive, even though there was only a few couples dining on a rainy Sunday night. Kind of ruined the overall ambiance.

Yelp
Ok this place was an amazingly pleasant surprise and we had the absolute best evening here last night! We were actually just looking for a place to grab a drink and snack prior to a blues show we wanted to go see, and realized it was flamenco night at Socarrat by chance, which they do every Tuesday. We asked to sit near the flamenco stage, which was loud when they were playing but we were happy to sit right in front and see all the action up close! We actually ended up staying for probably 2 hours and skipped the show we planned to see because it was too much fun to leave! The service was friendly and Amaya made us feel like family. Very attentive service all evening. To drink, we got a pitcher of red sangria-very tasty and actually not sweet, which was a surprise but now I think I'll prefer it that way! We also got a oaxaqueño (spicy mezcal drink-very yummy) and spicy margarita (not too spicy, also good). To eat, they specialize in paella but we didn't want a big dinner so just did an assortment of other tapas. We had the pulpo (grilled octopus cooked perfectly tender on top of delicious creamy mashed potatoes), croqueta of the day (can't remember what she said was inside but they were delicious little fried flavor bombs), and Burrata (so creamy and yummy, with fresh arugula salad, tomatoes, and beets). Make a reservation to go to Socarrat-I promise you won't be disappointed! And if you can make it there btwn 7-10pm on a Tuesday, it will be even better for the fun flamenco!!

Yelp
Stumbled upon this spot during Happy Hour. Thoroughly enjoyed every plate we tried. I would recommend the pulpo (tender and delicious!) and the lamb chops. Patatas bravas, as simple as it is, was delicious too.

Yelp
This place has great ambiance! The servers are so welcoming and the make you feel right at home. We came over Valentine's Day weekend and they were having a set menu with a charcuterie board and a few tapas with a choice of paella. The tapas were all really good - the bacon covered dates were surprisingly good (I wouldn't usually gravitate towards that), the croquettes were delicious and the shrimp was super fresh. As for the entree: the seafood paella was ok, but I would love to try the paella negra - it looks very popular. I loved the decor and it was a welcome change to the constant eating at home and takeout. They have indoor and outdoor seating. Overall a great experience and I preferred all the tapas and charcuterie board to the actual paella!

Yelp
I came here with a group of my girlfriends. It's located really close to Soho so it's a busy spot. I highly recommend making reservations. It is a small space with about 20 tables or so and reservations guarantee you a table! The paellas take about 30-40 mins to make so if you know what you want to order, tell the server as soon as you sit down :) We had the arroz negro which is with the squid ink and their socarrat paella. Both had crunchy and crispy rice bottoms which was my favorite part of the dish! They were both seasoned and flavored well. The pulpo was also delicious and cooked to the right amount of tenderness.
