Listen, I am not an "everyone gets 5 stars or no stars" kind of gal. Most of my reviews are honest and tempered and somewhere in between. So when I say that our brunch experience deserves 6/5 stars I mean it!
- Ambience: Perfect. The ideal amount of busy for a Sunday brunch. Lively but not loud, buzzing but not overwhelming. Gorgeous decor, terrific layout, just the right size and right amount of people.
- Service: Truly the best service in St. Pete YEARS. Bartender (Matt?) was just all smiles and energy and great vibes and helpfulness during the entirety of our visit. Waitstaff (can't recall her name!!) was just genuinely NICE. Not affected, not practiced, not rehearsed, just likable, authentic, interested, conversational and an absolute joy. Like I wanted to just invite her to pull up a chair and join us.
- Food: Just phenomenal. Chicken and biscuit - the perfect amount of gravy, delicious and juicy chicken. Collards were sweet - which threw me at first - but I ended up not getting enough of them they were so great. Cheese grits: the real deal, perfectly seasoned and ideal texture. Pork hash: WWOOWW. Smoky, meaty, not overly salty. Potatoes : little pillows of perfection. Asian sauce: what WAS that?? It was so darn good we put it on everything. And the star of the show: stuffed French toast. Y'all. That is literally one of the best things I have eaten. It is like 3 inches tall and looks like it will be either greasy or gloppy, but like magic, it was light but rich, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Cheesy ceter managed to avoid any semblance of gloppiness and was just a velvety accompaniment that brought out the flavors of the apples. It was a perfect medley of buttery, crispy, creamy, sweet, salty, tart and savory.
- Drinks: We were thrown by the $10 price tag on the iced latte, but wow was it worth every penny. Not only gorgeous but it was insanely good with cinnamon, cream, deliciously balanced coffee, and just the right amount of sweetness. My campari and soda was beautiful and refreshing for a hot summer day.
Prices felt at first steep, but 3 entrees, 2 specialty drinks and an extra side came out to less than we'd spend on a mediocre dinner. For the quality of the food and experience, way worth it.
Added special touch was a birthday sparkler in our French toast - that just pushed the whole experience over the top. From beginning to end, every taste, every interaction, every detail was thoughtful and felt natural. We left with crazy fully bellies and the biggest smiles and glows I can remember. This is what dining out should be (even if our photos don't do the meal justice)!
