The Essential Guide to the Columbia River Gorge

"A waterfront pizzeria specializing in wood‑fired pies that showcase local ingredients and adventurous toppings—examples include pears with blue cheese and caramelized onions or cherries paired with chorizo and goat cheese—alongside more traditional options and Columbia River salmon or mushroom toppings." - Travel + Leisure Editors

The Best Restaurants and Bars in the Columbia River Gorge | Eater Portland

"Just steps from the Columbia River, Solstice Hood River is almost always abuzz. Locals and tourists flock to this Waterfront Park restaurant for wood-fired pizzas topped with Oregon and Washington produce, like the Country Girl, which pairs Gorge-grown cherries with cheese, herbs, and chorizo made right in the Solstice kitchen. During the summer, when Solstice is at its busiest, the company somehow triples-down, both opening a kiosk out back for takeout orders and firing up its pizza truck to serve extra pies to hungry crowds. The fried Brussels sprouts, coated in a bacon marmalade, are a crispy, salty, and sweet complement to any pie featuring from-scratch dough fermented for 72 hours." - Molly Allen

The Best Restaurants and Bars in Hood River, Oregon | Eater Portland

"Italian technique and Columbia River Gorge flavor meet at this pizza spot down by the water. Local ingredients and seasonal availability are the bedrock for the inventive house pies, which feature toppings like cremini mushrooms and Siragusa pear over goat cheese or mozzarella. Just as much attention and care are given to the base of the pizza as well: The homemade dough is fermented for 72 hours before being baked in a wood-fire oven imported from Italy. If the dining room wait is too long in summer, walk over to the nearby pizza truck to grab a slice or a whole pie to eat by the river or cap off the day with a soft serve ice cream cone." - Molly Allen

You might in fact take flight with how windy it is sitting on the patio. However, it can be very refreshing. The drinks are definitely a mix of interesting flavor combos and look bright and airy. The caesar salad was alright but the croutons were almost too tough to eat. The pizza is great! They also have a food truck around the corner that you can grab food and soft serve from. The waitress was very friendly and attentive to our needs and was sure to get our check very quickly, as we realized our parking was about to run out of time.

Google
This place is so good!! We've been here 3 times now (drive down from Rochester WA, and each time we've gotten something different, a pizza each, a salad to share, and an appetizer and each of the things we have tried have been amazing! Haven't found anything we don't like! The only problem is now our local pizza place doesn't cut it even a little bit! The staff each time has been super friendly and wonderful and the space is really fun! Can't wait til next time!

Google
They were very busy on a Saturday around lunch. They have more than one vegetarian pizza. Pizza was pretty good. They have a progress pride flag out front but have gendered bathrooms. It would make a trans person I know more comfortable if it wasn't gendered.

Pradnya B

Google
We went here for lunch and had a great time! Definitely recommend making a reservation if you're going on a summer weekend — it can get busy. The weather was nice, so we sat outside. Service was friendly and the vibe was laid-back. We had the Margherita and Cremini pizzas — both were excellent, especially the Cremini, which I could’ve easily finished on my own. The Coconut Key Lime Pie was a perfect dessert to finish off the meal. Would definitely return!

Google
Smoked salmon pizza was unique and delicious. Brussels sprouts were huge and parm fries were good. Key lime pie rivaled ours in the south. Our waiter was super friendly and attentive. We had no wait but heard it can be quite busy at times. Fun to walk across the parking lot after dinner and watch the wind surfers.

Google
Was greeted very pleasantly and walked to the front corner and given a nice view of park and hillside. A nice touch when by yourself. Server was really nice. Ordered a pizza and a cocktail and both were out in close to 5 minutes. Remarkable considering it was pretty busy. Great experience!

Google
Our server was amazing and very welcoming. The Brussels sprouts were to die for! The pizza was so so good! Such a great place to go eat pizza. It was a little packed but it was super good.

Steve W

Google
Hostess was friendly and welcoming. Others seemed to be learning. Nothing critical. The pizza was done the way wood fired pizza should be done. Charred to perfection with the right amount of flavorful and fresh toppings. Excellent Brussels sprouts as well. This is a full service restaurant. The pic of the food truck was for the name.

Yelp
Delicious lunch stop for us. Here's what we loved: --wonderful covered patio for our table of six; we were comfortable and had ample space for... --five plates to share (salad, Brussels, asparagus, fries, and more fries) --damn good pizza with a nice, smoky char and perfectly cooked --our service was outstanding from immediate seating (it was 1:30 pm on a Thursday) and a stellar, knowledgeable, just right wait staff. Just watching him pour wine was expert and beautiful. --great selection of interesting and tasty mocktails (we were driving onto Joseph for another 4-5 hours) We'll be back for more!

Yelp
D and I love their pizza here - thin crust and fresh seasonal ingredients. Just got here for a day trip, we usually try to come on an off day and off time. Today was a Wednesday at 2:50pm. There was one other party and lots of parking! We got a sliced pear and regular fries for the kiddo - and D and I shared 2 pizzas - one was a Nettle & Morel seasonal special (we added homemade chorizo) and the other that we're taking back is the country cherry girl pizza (D's fav). He also got the Green Thumb cocktail (vodka with Pandan syrup, lemon juice and soda water). Everything tastes better with Parmesan cheese and their homemade chili crisp oil Can't wait to come back again soon!

Yelp
We had the Pepperoni pizza and an order of Brussel Sprouts. Both were very good and the pizza, being wood fired was the BOMB! Service was quick and very good, if fact a number of waiters kept checking on us to make sure we had everything we needed. The decor was modern with plenty of wood. We sat outside and even though it was a hot day, the breeze was wonderful. I would recommend this restaurant for sure!
google avatar

Alicia A.

Yelp
So delicious, pizza was on point. Lemonade was 10/10 and the ranch, though!! Service was fabulous! Loved being able to sit outside on such a beautiful day!

Taylor W.

Yelp
First thing, we tried to order online and for some reason they wouldn't let us call and place a togo order. they told us we had to go inside which was also odd cuz they said we can't edit our online order. there prices are also wrong online FOOD REVIEW THO: GREAT

Yelp
What a great place for cocktails and conversations!!! I was in town to visit friends who said this is "THE PLACE" for wood fired pizza. We started with a shared appetizer of arancini which was some of the best I've ever had. I had the cremini pizza because those of you who know me, know I LOVE mushrooms . One friend got the country girl cherry and the other ordered the special, sambal shrimp pizza. We all shared and mine was obviously the best! Just the right mount of mushrooms with a lemon zest to brighten up the whole pie. I didn't love the shrimp but my friends both enjoyed it. Drinks were delicious and staff were absolutely spectacular. The only thing we didn't love was the s'mores dessert mainly because of the excess smoke it ended up tasting burnt. Will definitely return and explore other dessert options.

Michael B.

Yelp
Pizza is good, but no dogs allowed in outside seating area and they charge an automatic 15% tip on all take out orders. I won't be back.

Yelp
One of our regular places when we visit hood river. The place is amazing, the ambiance is very lively and hood river is right across. Must visit place during summer time. They have special menu for summer time. Service is amazing too. We really love their pizza's and they taste delicious. I am a fan of their drinks. They have interesting mixology techniques. They are very refreshing. Would definitely recommend this place if you are passing by hood river.

Yelp
So glad our tummy was hungry at the right time. We were in Hood River Waterfront area for the first time. Thursday around noon and we were hungry. saw Solstice and had to check it out. Checked in with the hostess and it'll be a 10mins wait for a table in the back area by the firewood or seating without waiting outside side by side. We waited for the table and it was not even 10mins, our table was ready. It was a nice day to be sitting outside. Menu in hand, we saw a few items we liked and had to order. Brussels sprouts- amazing. Should have ordered 2! Bacon too. Cannot go wrong. Caesar salad - we split it and it was nice and refreshing. Solstice pizza - highly recommend it. Order their house ranch to dip. You will not be disappointed. He ordered a beer and I had one of the cocktails. Also wonderful. Service, above par! Always was checked on and very attentive to us. Restaurant was busy but we were not attended to. If you want some soft serve- vanilla, chocolate or swirl - their outside truck in the parking lot sells it. Recommend the swirl with sea salt olive oil, I know I know but trust me.

Yelp
Wow wow wow. Solstice is the best pizza in Hood River and it's not even close. I'm obsessed with their delicious Siragusa Pear pizza - it was unlike any other pizza I've had. Savory, sweet, and mouthwatering. We had a bit of a wait on a Saturday evening, but it was bearable and they have bench seating outside. We were seated inside and the server was quick to get us started on drinks and food. The atmosphere is family-friendly, great for dates, and there's writing on the wall inside that says "Everyone is welcome". Give this place a try!

Yelp
Great pizza tastes so much better when using fresh and local Columbia Gorge farms for veggies, produce and meats. The menu has so many unique pizzas with toppings you may never imagine like pineapple chutney, spicy jalapeno crema, basil cashew pesto, cherries - gotta check out the menu. I'd like to know the sourcing purveyor for the pizza dough made from local milled flour, fermented 72 hour and fired to a perfect char and crunch on the thin crust. Perfectly cooked all the way through inside. Pizza's look amazing when delivered to the table. And topping's combinations are so delicious. My wife loved the Creminin with organic cremini mushrooms, goat cheese, mozzarella, Pecorino, lemon zest (wow delish) ), truffle oil (wow delish), fresh herbs. I loved the hot mama with Ezzo pepperoni, pepadew peppers, peperoncinis, mozzarella, house marinara - wow delish! Nice table outside or inside. Very convivial setting. Good Oregon craft beers! Good to go again!

Yelp
Ignoring a Memorial Day crowd and some nasty wind, we came to Solstice to enjoy some of their pizza. Had we chosen to wait for inside seating, it would have been about 45 minutes on this holiday Sunday. We opted for a street side deck seat, hence the wind, and were seated immediately. A drink - the house ginger ale, and two pies - the Carnivore and the Crimini - were ordered. Honestly, I was a bit disappointed in the ginger ale. It was missing a good "bite" and just seemed flat in flavor. Conversely, as befits Solstice's reputation, both pies were excellent, and between the three of us, were more that enough for the lunch meal and a couple of take home meals afterwards. Should you so choose to enjoy the Crimini, pay close attention to the cheese. It's got an outstanding flavor bite!
google avatar

Stephanie S.

Yelp
Tasty wood fired pizza , fun drinks and great service! Prices are a little hefty but that is everything along the river. Hubby tried something totally different and ordered the Country girl cherry pizza. Yep, sounds weird but somehow it works. Son ordered the Cremini pizza with truffle oil and he ate the whole thing without coming up for air! I ordered the Solstice which to some is sacrilege to put pineapple on pizza. I get few and far between opportunities to order my pizza this way. So today was the day that we had our own personal pizzas and the perfect chance for me to try it with the delicious accoutrements that Solstice has added to make this place so special.
google avatar

Rachel L.

Yelp
Food: delicious but expensive. We got 3 pizzas (with hot honey, of course), truffle fries, cheesy bread , brussel sprouts, and fritters. Our server was alright. She seemed super urgent and rushed through.. interrupted us a couple times. Efficient though. They have private little heated rooms for folx with dogs!!
google avatar

Yelp
We now understand why Solstice has been ranked as one of the best pizza joints in the PNW!! On our way back to PDX, we had to "fuel up" for the drive back. Solstice was highly rated, and who says no to good pizza!? We walked in and were warmly greeted and were in awe of the cool atmosphere. Upon looking over the menu going back and forth on the very difficult choice, we ended up trying the Brussel Sprouts along with the Solstice and Country Girl Cherry for our pies. They both came very highly recommended by our waitresses, and they did not disappoint. The homemade crust was perfectly crispy, and the toppings were fresh and flavorful. Added bonus was the homemade ranch and hot honey as the perfect pair for our pizzas. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive. Jamie and Georgia were our waitresses, and they were great. Overall, we highly recommend Solstice Pizza to anyone looking for a delicious meal and a wonderful dining experience. Whether you're a local or just passing through, this is a must-visit spot in Hood River.

Yelp
Amazing wood fired pizza! I had the Pepperoni with Canadian Bacon. Yum! Service was excellent and they get you in and out pretty quickly. Establishment was spotless. Also, try the Brussels Sprouts, as you will not be let down. Worth the stop when in the area.
google avatar

Flory W.

Yelp
This is the first time we eat here, we ordered to-go. I ordered the chicken sandwich. I thought: it was a great sandwich! Fries also was great! Hubby ordered the Solstice, and I thought: high end price, but day-old taste-less pizza! Dry and tasteless!
google avatar

B G.

Yelp
Good pizza for reasonable price. Had the margherita and the one with goat cheese and cherries.
google avatar

Yelp
A great option every step of the way with an unforgettable dessert. AN EASY WAIT. We put our name in to wait and only twenty minutes later our table was ready. We had 10 minutes to return to the host, so happily wiled away some time along the park across the street. DELICIOUS PIZZA. The menu had a lot of vegetarian friendly options. The Crimini was particularly delicious - the crust and truffle oil putting it over the top. My partner got the Country Girl Cherry which was a little goaty for his taste though he knew that might be the case. Other than that it hit all the notes and he found it so interesting having sausage and cherry paired. S'MORES ARE THE REASON I'LL BE BACK. The s'mores are vegetarian!! I have not had marshmallow in so long and this did not disappoint. The pecan crust was so toasty and warm. The ganache was rich and smooth. The marshmallow on top was plentiful and perfectly toasted. It made me so happy and is the reason I'll return here every time I'm in Hood River.
google avatar

Yelp
Yum! Delicious food, great atmosphere, fantastic server, bubbly hostess. Everything about our dinner was great! Glad we had reservations!

Gina R.

Yelp
A very busy evening, and still the staff was attentive. Pizza was totally over the top fabulous
google avatar

Tina W.

Yelp
We were in Hood River for the first time. I'm vegan but my partner is not. Solstice has a Green Wilder pizza that fit my dietary needs. It was superior to other vegan pizza I've tasted. My partner got the cremini pizza and loved it. The staff was friendly and quick. This place is just a short walk to the river. The wind surfing, kite boarding and foils are a blast to watch.
google avatar

Erin M.

Yelp
We made a reservation on a whim and it was the best decision. We sat on their wonderful patio. It doesn't have great sight lines to the water because of a berm, but the people watching is great. There were lots of people body sailing. They also had a covered patio area. The pizzas had a great chewy crust. The pizzas we ordered had the perfect amount of toppings. I had the mushroom pizza and it was loaded with mushrooms balanced with a white sauce. The ceaser salad was crisp. This is a great date spot or fun place for families. It was the perfect spot to stop between Multnomah Falls and Mount Hood. We will be back next time we are in the area and would highly recommend it.
google avatar

Marc L.

Yelp
Great location where you can see the river and all of the aquatic activities. But parking is the price you pay. The staff is super friendly and will make great recommendations if you ask. We have the carnivore and the farm girl cherry pizzas. These are true wood fired thin crust so expect some char. Place doesn't feel hectic with orders being flung they are busy but well in control so you get to enjoy relax have a good brew and a great pizza.
google avatar

KC C.

Yelp
We ordered the carnivore pizza, 11 inch, enough to feed two people, unless you're really hungry. The froze was a blended drink and perfect on a hot day! The sesame salad and Brussel sprouts had the perfect amount of flavors. Outside patio seating available. Our server was attentive and friendly.
google avatar

Lauren C.

Yelp
Awesome pizza spot with varied pizza toppings and combinations, all of which we tried were fantastic. Country Girl Cherry and Cremini were faves, and the cocktails were great as well. Service was over the top exceptional. Highly recommend!

Mary R.

Yelp
The pizza was mediocre and very expensive. There were not many toppings, and an 11" pizza costs $19.00. The service was very slow, and unfriendly.
google avatar

Joel D.

Yelp
We had the Hot Mama and the Pear salad. This seemed to be the perfect combination. The price of the salad was a bit high. Almost as much as the pizza. Otherwise we would give this place 5 stars.
google avatar

Cece R.

Yelp
We walked into this restaurant randomly 3 years ago and I STILL think about the drink I got Favorite part: The Frose Rose was the most delicious pink treat I've had to date Wish would improve: The general service and quickness of the staff made experience feel little rushed. Overall: I loved the atmosphere and really amazing drinks. I'd definitely go back if ever in the area again.
google avatar

Livia R.

Yelp
Long wait (40min). Good beer, friendly service and fast food (afterall, it is wood fired pizza). Arancini yummy. Solstice pizza okay (maybe undercooked?). Strawberry and quinoa salad good. Siragusa pizza very good.
google avatar

Kim L.

Yelp
This place means a lot to us. Great pizza, wine and cocktails. Lot of comfy open air seating and the staff - so good! Today we saw a staff person sort of "lose" her grip on a non-breakable water carafe-it went flying and she lunged and caught it. We, of course applauded and she bowed. Close to all that is so amazing in Hood River - and we've been fans of the Country Girl Cherry Pizza for a long time! Justin was a great server - friendly and engaged in conversation. Sweet!
google avatar

Cynthia F.

Yelp
By far the best GF pizza that has entered my mouth and my belly. So good. I also had the regular glutenful pizza and that was delicious as well. All made in house. So folks, don't sleep on Oregon's pizza. Make reservations online. They don't offer MILITARY discount:-/
google avatar

Isabel J.

Yelp
We came here on a Saturday around lunch time and we are definitely lucky we had a reservation because this place gets busy but I definitely understand the hype! The service was great and the food was even better. Perfectly wood fired pizza with lots of fun/unique specialty pizzas. We ordered the La campagna (get it!!), the pear one (also get it!!) and the solstice one which wasn't my favorite but still delicious. You can't beat this place, the ambience on a warm day and the pizza is amazing. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Ashley C.

Yelp
Solstice is hands down my most favorite pizza. The country girl cherry is a pizza I'll break any diet any day for - the flavors and quality is always top notch. We went on 5/14/23 after a nearby hike and ordered the kids butter noodles also for the kids to share. Just a side note: their to-go portions of the kids noodles come with only about 20 noodles. We ordered for my 2 kids to share but likely should have gotten 2 (or 3?) orders instead. I probably won't spend the $8 for the kids meal again. But regardless, their food is so good I'm not going to dock it a star. I'd just skip the kids portions.
google avatar

Chris L.

Yelp
We were hanging out in Hood River and needed a place for lunch. It was a pizza kind of day so we stopped in and immediately scored a table on a lovely fall weekend day. Our server was friendly and we got an assortment of things, including kids pizzas, specialty pizzas (one pear and one cherry), and a couple salads too. Everything was SO good. We'd totally come back here again.

Bob T.

Yelp
Great pizza! Great service! Great ambiance right next to the best windsurfing beach in the world. The Web site may look a trifle pretentious, but don't be fooled: the pizza is absolutely delicious, the dining room is comfortable, and the prices are startlingly reasonable, like 30% more than a comparable meal at McDonalds. They also have a food truck.

Oralia G.

Yelp
There's a mandatory 15% gratuity fee on take out orders. The definition of gratuity is: something given voluntarily or beyond obligation usually for some service. There's no "service" provided on take out orders and there was a 45- minute wait. When I asked about the menu, the person attending the take out trailer in the back alley lot was rude and unwilling to answer any questions. These waiters are rude because they don't have to work for their gratuity.
google avatar

Teresa L.

Yelp
First time here in Hood River OR & this is such a great location for food, right on the river. They have indoor/outdoor seating which is nice, especially during the summer days. Our server Nora was great! Even though it was busy, we were helped right away. We ordered the Solstice Cocktail, Brussels sprouts, & Solstice Pizza. The only reason I am giving 4 starts is because the Solstice Pizza said it came with spicy jalapeño crema & it was not spicy at all. I ordered it thinking the crema would be spicy, little disappointed but everything else was great.
google avatar

Chelle Y.

Yelp
A short walk from Waterfront Park, Solstice is a great spot to grab a bite after your outdoor activities. There are some unique pizza flavors, and they come on crispy dough, which is how I prefer my pizza. The highlight of my meal was the huckleberry lemonade, which tasted like sour fruit candy. We had great service, too. You should definitely give it a try.
google avatar

Dave B.

Yelp
Solstice has THE most friendly staff! From the gal that answered our phone call, to the person that greeted us upon our arrival, our waitress, the lady that served our meal, and a different girl that took our empty plates- every single employee that came in contact with us was very sociable! We ordered & shared the 11" pepperoni pizza & S'mores. The pizza was perfectly wood fired and not the slightest bit greasy. The S'mores were SO delicious I wish we hadn't shared;)
google avatar

Ploy N.

Yelp
Gourmet pizzas with creative toppings. I particularly love how thin yet tender and flavorful their dough is. It really let their toppings shine. They also cooked their pies just right, not too charred. Thought the 11" was a great portion for a person. You can split multiple small pies to explore their offerings. The Cherry Country Girl made used of actual cherries which was super cool, adding a natural sweetness to the rest of the hearty pie. The Solstice was also great. Making use of spicy and sweet pineapple chutney, pairing perfectly with the Canadian Bacon and crema. Their drinks were also not to be missed! Their Frose Rose was perfect after a sunny day hike. They also offer a lot of local wines from Mosier and Hood River itself. Totally a spot to check out when you're in town.

James G.

Yelp
Servered burnt pizza. It was burnt and tasted like burnt. They didn't care. It is still burnt. Burn it until it's burnt.
google avatar

JT T.

Yelp
Pizza was really really good. The brussel sprouts were also tasty - then again, rendered in bacon, perhaps this is not surprising. The server was very nice and also let us (two grown adult humans) order a plate of pear slices off the kids menu ("to be healthy"), which highly recommend because they were perfect for cutting the fattiness of the meal. They have a few beers along with some wines and a decent selection of house cocktails.
google avatar

Tim R.

Yelp
It's pizza time it's pizza time This place makes some delicious and creative pizzas. We had the Country Girl (pizza with black cherries) and the Solstice (their take on a Hawaiian pizza) but much better. Both were amazing and made me want to try the rest of their creations in the future. They also have a few sides and salads to select from. A long with a full bar. Their pizzas comes in two sizes. Really outstanding stuff.

David S.

Yelp
Since when is MANDATORY 15% GRATUITY ON TO-GO orders a thing, especially after paying $31 for an 11" pizza? To make it worse, they tried to charge me 18% until I reminded them the website and printed menu say 15%. Rewarding this business model is not ok. Pizza was ok but not anything special. Recommend going somewhere else!

Bo V.

Yelp
Expensive & slow. Still hungry after spending $50 on a pizza! I overheard the owner insulting customers behind their back.
google avatar

Weslee C.

Yelp
The food is amazing! We had the ceasar(not pictured) we gobbled it up! The hot mama pizza is bomb and we got the hot honey on the side. I also recommend the arancini of you love cheese & pesto!

Natalie M.

Yelp
Wonderful service. Delicious pizza. Best gluten free handmade crust I've ever had! We will be back!
google avatar

Ben C.

Yelp
It is great wood fire char, but borderline unaffordable pizza. We come to this seasonal destination to keep it a destination. Salad ~ smaller. Service so-so. With the tourism still lively, the beer taps stay fresh.

Ashley A.

Yelp
We have enjoyed Solstice's pizza many times before and after our most recent visit, we should've stuck to the tried and true. We decided to try non pizza items, and I warn you - don't. We got the mac & cheese and the chicken sandwich. The mac & cheese sauce was 90% water and tasteless. I ordered it with bacon, but they never brought it out. The chicken sandwich was a 1/8 inch thick piece of chicken with 3 measly pickles. The pickles were thicker than the chicken. The only flavorful thing about the sandwich was the mayo based sauce. The only redeeming part of the meal was the fries, those were crispy, hot and salty. The lackluster service didn't help the experience. While we have enjoyed their pizza in the past, we will not be going back. When we want pizza we'll stick with Double Mountain
