I spent my special day at Soma, and it honestly couldn’t have been more perfect. The food was absolutely delicious — every dish felt thoughtful and full of flavor, loved their sashimi. The staff were incredibly attentive from start to finish, making the whole experience feel warm and effortless. The atmosphere, the service, the food… everything came together beautifully. Truly wonderful experience, and I’m already looking forward to going back for more 🐟

I've passed by this place so many times, always admiring their sign out front, and I finally decided to stop in. Wow, am I glad I did! Absolutely delicious! This is officially my new favorite spot in the area. The service was excellent, and every dish I tried was outstanding. Super fresh fish and flavors that really stand out. The crab croquettes are incredible, and I’m obsessed with the tuna cheek, so good! Prices are very reasonable, and the overall vibe of the place is really nice. Great atmosphere, amazing food , definitely worth a visit. Go try it!

We tried the Omakase skewers cause we had heard good things about it! Did not disappoint!! Food was very tasty, very well presented and service was impeccable!! Favorite dish was probably the skewers assortment, particularly the salmon belly. Desserts were really good too! Highly recommend their shaved ice cream On top of that we really loved how special design of everything was, the plates were beautiful, you can choose your class out of a collection when you order some sake, and just the decoration overall was truly amazing.

What an amazing experience!! They had fresh sushi shipped in from Japan, we had a great culinary experience. I suggest you order the fresh sushi and yakitori skewers … you really can’t go wrong. They have so many skewers to choose from. I loved their presentation, the staff was very friendly and made everything feel authentic and amazing 😍🥰 Can’t wait to come back! Arigato zai mas !!!

Definitely, this is the best place to eat tuna in Los Angeles. The excellent price and great quality of the lunch is unparalleled. The price of this tuna dong is comparable to that of Tokyo's Seagen, and the rice and wasabi are even better than Seagen's. The soy sauce has also been processed and is very tasty. With this experience I decided to pay another visit in the evening. Evenings are not as cost-effective as lunch, but there are more options. For an izakaya, they did a very good job with the buttered scallops with three types of mushrooms in them, and the scallops had a very high quality and were very flavorful. Umaki's fire is also fantastic. The fish used for the sushi was equally excellent, the whites didn't have that rotten taste that many restaurants have and was very fresh. That Dinner's Chirashi wasn't as excellent as the tuna offered at lunch, but it was still a great choice at that price. With the aura of so many great qualities, the other flaws don't really matter that much anymore, you guys are good enough. I can say but Bowl for lunch you guys are the best Japanese restaurant in LA. But I think you can try to use better eggs for your dishes. the Tamago in Chirashi, and the eggs in Umaki don't have much flavor, which is a small drawback. Then there's the sea urchin that I wish you guys would have chosen differently, the one we had tonight was the worst thing at this meal. After I brought this up, manager gave me a different sea urchin to try, but honestly neither were excellent. But I actually suspect that the experience made me eat the same sea urchin, the first time it was the part that was pressed further down, while the second time I may have opened a new box or put it on the top part. The manager didn't look too happy after getting my feedback lol, I understand that very well, but I hope my review was helpful and expect you to do better in the future.

A new Japanese restaurant, “Soma Suisan,” opened summer in 2025 in West Hollywood. The mural of the dragons that I painted while ago is still there even though the restaurant is under a new ownership. I’m so grateful for that. The food is also very delicious and beautiful, so please everyone, check it out!

We were in LA for just three nights, and ate here for two of them, and we would come back for a third if we could! Everything we had was so, so enjoyable, from the really fresh and delicious fish, to the sides that always seemed to have a little something something that sets them apart from similar dishes you may have had before. Highlights: 1. The creamy homemade tofu is crazy good. On our first night we shared one, and on the second night we had one each. You really need to try this. 2. The yamaimo with mentaiko was really unique. I’ve never had yamaimo pieces like that (they’re usually grated) and the rich and unctuous mentaiko coating was so good. 3. The tuna of course! So fresh and clean tasting with such good texture. Finally, the service was warm and lovely both times and the restaurant has such a calm and homey atmosphere. This place has easily become a must-visit for whenever we’re back in LA!

A new contender for the best Japanese food in Los Angeles has arrived! This brand new spot is an absolute gem, offering an experience that truly transports you to Japan. The fish is, without a doubt, the best I've had in LA – incredibly authentic with plain, super high-quality ingredients that speak for themselves. While it's not a "sceney" place, the atmosphere is lovely and inviting, and the prices are remarkably fair for the exceptional quality you receive. You absolutely must try the tuna platter with five different cuts; it's unique, artfully presented, and utterly amazing. This place deserves to become super popular – go try it now!

Had a great experience with the omakase menu! For the price of $80, I thought it was very much worth it. Large cuts of fish, everything cooked well and balanced flavors. Left very full after dessert. Service and ambiance was nice as well. Quiet and comfortable. And beautiful plating.

Would come again if I was in the area! Parking: Not terribly hard to find but you just got to give it some time. There's metered parking in front of restaurant, and if you turn onto the side streets (on the opposite side of the main street), there are free street parking. Do note that some areas are permitted parking only at all times. Reservation: My party made a reservation so it was seamless for us. I recommend making a resy since they don't have a whole lot of tables and this place is poppinnn Service: The staff there are so nice, but the problem is they probably just don't have enough wait staff. I'm not sure if the sushi chef (2 people from what we could see) or the wait staff (1 person only) is the bottle neck. But while they were nice and accommodating, it did take us ~40 mins before we got our food. One of our drink orders was also missed. We sat inside, so can't imagine the service to be better if you had elected to sit by the patio. Food: Now onto what you're really reading this review for. We found this place through social media and they touted that the chef and fish both are flown in from Japan. I believe it! Portions are on the smaller side, but my oh my do they give you a lot of fish! Our tuna bowl came with a tower of tuna of different cuts and quality, along with some roe. Each bowl got a good amount of fatty pieces that truly melted in our mouth. Overall, it was a very positive experience. I just wish service was a little quicker and the drive isn't as far from where we are.

I decided to take my hubby on a date night here. I heard this restaurant use a premier tuna supplier as the one in Toyosu, Japan. He loves his raw fish so I knew this will be up his alley. We were able to make a reservations easily. There is only two hours max street meter parking. Soma Suisan is located a couple of blocks from the Beverly Center. The restaurant was split into three dining areas and you can also sit at the bar. I love the set up and everything was very inviting. The service was great. Everyone we came in contact with was super friendly. I felt the vibe was more leisurely. It will be a more slow pace vibe. On to the dishes: Addictive Cucumber - very refreshing and flavors was great Snow Crab Cream Croquette - great fried on this Hotate Scallops Skewers - it was a bit raw for me but the hubby loved it Grilled Black Cod - my favorite! This was delicious. I can eat this every day Dinner Chirashi - my hubby love every bite of it Overall, a great spot for date night!

Went here with my girlfriend around 9 pm on a Tuesday. Completely empty. Though it varies we were glad because this place was astonishing. Upon walk in we were asked to be seated at the bar or at a table, we chose the table. Service was excellent and I always got my water filled. The food came out at such perfect timing. The food however, was one of the freshest fish I've tasted and had an excellent tasting menu of fish. I knew this place was going to be good seeing everybody was Japanese so it was good to see everybody communicate and chat up nicely :) The whole ambiance felt just like at home as it would be in Japan. Such a great atmosphere.

Handsome server, kind people. Authentic feel and tastes. Definitely unique and special. I recommend. The Sake we had was also delicious. Had such a great time catching up with girlfriends here for dinner.

Soma Suisan hosted a booth and Bluefin Tuna cutting show at Umami Fest in Irvine this past weekend. I had the pleasure of watching their sushi chef cut and process a Bluefin tuna live as well as eat the prepared tuna! The fish and rice were SO delicious and high quality! The toro was divine and the chutoro was buttery and melted in your mouth. The ikura was plump and salty which went well with the tuna pieces. Everything was so fresh and premium tasting, I'm so happy with this experience. It has made me very curious to try the restaurant in the future!

Sushi was delicious! Tuna was legit. I would recommend. It was not very busy on a Sunday night.

Went for lunch. Only ones there. So there's no reason for the service to be slow and mistakes with the order and also having to ask for missing items. On a positive note the tuna toro and tuna salmon bowl were generous and good. The teishoku box was mediocre. I asked for butter fish and got mackerel. Had to ask for the sashimi portion which they forgot. Not sure why the hostess was more focused on her phone than her customers but not a return visit.

5 stars is the bare minimum! From the moment I walked in with its incredible ambiance to the perfectly picked table setting I enjoyed every second of my experience. The service was great and the food was even better. The staff was extremely warm and helpful and the food was superb. From the salmon skewers to the hand rolls to the best ice cream ive ever tasted, I absolutely recommend and can't wait to go back again!

My friend and I are excited to try Soma Suiasan soft opening. It's at the former Gozen space. We came for lunch. They have good deals for lunch special. Their lunch menu only has few items, which means they are focused on their ingredients. I had the Tuna & Toro Mt. Fuji Bowl. Their fish is from Toyosu Market in Japan. They specialize in maguro (tuna). It was good and very nice with the marinated Ikura (Salmon Roe). I love their housemade ice cream. They had mango, ginger, sakura, sesame, and matcha green tea flavors available. The ginger flavor was special. The manager is nice. It's metered street parking, $1 for an hour, max 2 hours during the day.

So grateful that a friend recommended this new spot to me in its infancy. Once in a while you learn about greatness in some form or another- in this case it's in the form of a classy authentic stylish Japanese restaurant legitimately serving up the best fish I've had in CA. We celebrated my wife's birthday and despite having some food allergies the server and chef collaborated and they provided the perfect omakase solutions throughout the night. The evening was full of happy little surprises... one of the most memorable were the box of uniquely individual sake ceramic cups that we chose from, along with our server describing the cuts of fish some of which as a japanese descendent have never been introduced to... to the matcha tiramisu which alone was worth traveling for. We were with a couple of friends that are from the food industry in NYC and they couldn't wait to bring back friends and family too. The service was special the ambiance and music was fresh and the food was just a whole bunch of happy delicious surprises.

The famous tuna wholesaler from Toyosu Market in Tokyo has opened their first izakaya in the U.S. I was amazed by the sashimi cuts I had never tried before--tuna head (nōten), cheek, and throat--each with its own unique texture and rich flavor. Needless to say, it was incredibly fresh. But it wasn't just the tuna that stood out. The other seafood dishes, sushi, and the well-balanced menu all showcased the chef's skill and deep respect for the ingredients. The pricing was very reasonable for the quality. I'm thrilled to add this restaurant to my go-to list.

Everything was so delicious and fresh miso soup was so good we got the assorted sushi dinner 10/10 if you're ever here you should definitely get it! The ambiance was so nice they have limited seating so make sure to make a reservation the drinks were so good. They were so friendly and welcoming can't wait to go back

Small intimate setting. Was surprised to see it wasn't busier on a Saturday. Service was very attentive. Unique menu felt authentic. Only sad I wanted to try the omakase menu and apparently you need a reservation for that. If it were busy I would see that but it was really quiet. Extensive sake menu.

Had another amazing experience at Soma Suisan. This time I had nakaochi which is tuna backbone. It's the spine and backbone of the tuna with little bits of tuna meat in between ribs. It was a 1/2 for $70. It comes with spoons to dig out the tuna meat and seaweed wraps with sushi rice to make hand rolls. Seriously one of the most unique dining experiences I've ever had. If you love sushi you gotta try this.

Straight from Tokyo's famous Tsukiji Fish Market to our own backyard here in LA, this charming little restaurant was hands-down my favorite spot this past weekend. My wife and I enjoyed some of the freshest tuna imaginable--cut straight from the bone. The menu featured an incredible selection, including all-time favorites like scallops and melt-in-your-mouth salmon so tender even a baby could eat it. With prices this good, there's no question--we'll definitely be going back

We came here for lunch today and ordered the nigiri sushi set, while my wife ordered the toro and tuna bowl. It was some of the freshest sushi I've had in LA, and the restaurant still has the exact same ambience as Raku. It's beautiful inside. I can't wait to try their dinner menu next

It was a great surprise to stumble upon this place while we were in town this weekend. We were looking for sushi and the description intrigued us so we stopped by only to find out that it had just opened under all new management and remodel and they are relatively new. I've been to a lot of great high-end sushi restaurants in this has to be one of the top ones I've been to. The owner came to the table and really broke down everything beautifully for us and provided us with a great experience with the exact right fish, and the right beverages to go with it and everything was flawless and beautiful. Treat yourself.

We had the pleasure of trying Soma Suisan for the first time today. The whole experience was truly incredible. The quality of the fish is elite. They source their tuna from Japan, and even though it travels overseas it is so fresh and full of flavor. You don't find this kind of quality in a lot of sushi places. Their appetizers are special too, like their creamy tofu. It is very light and refreshing, but with a perfectly comforting taste to it. It goes well with the sashimi. The crab croquettes were also very high quality and the outside was perfectly fried without being dense. Their dessert was some of the best I've had. We ordered their ginger ice cream (with real ginger pieces--none of that artificial ginger taste) and the purple potato brûlée. The brûlée was not sweet and unlike anything I've had before. So delectable. And the staff are so friendly and dedicated. We spoke to the chef for a while who really seemed passionate about his work, and the waitress was so kind with a beautiful heart. The owner really did a good job with this place! The inside is very cleanly decorated, the ambience feels--upper class Japanese if that makes sense. The pillows have the indent in the middle--like decorative pillows should--and the modern-looking chandelier adds a nice touch. Thank you so much for a wonderful experience! We will be back. OMG.. this place is an absolute gem! Gorgeous interior amazing service and the food was all good! I can't wait to go back.

Dinner with a group of girlfriends during their "soft" soft opening was a delight. Great food, KILLER sashimi, and great ambiance. Love how they present a cedar box full of small sake glasses for you to select your glass for the night~ The kamameshi at the end was great too. We had the salmon and ikura (salmon roe) one, and NOT a stingy portion of the seafood~ The other table was having the crab and scallop one. I want to try that one next time~ And their homemade icecream was great too (I liked the cherry blossom flavor) .

Fabulous food and amazing service. Highly recommend the tuna sampler and the homemade creamy tofu. The staff are also wonderful and attentive.

The service and staff are great and they have a good selection of small plates and sushi options. We ordered a little bit of both to try, since it was our first time. I have to say come here for drinks and the cooked items. There are better places for sushi in the area.

Ate their tuna bowl at the Umami festival in Irvine. Very fresh tuna with multiple slices of different fattiness that has excellent flavor. Much better quality than any other tuna bowl I've tried.

So good! Owned by a tuna supplier in Toyosu. The assorted sushi dinner was perfect (10 piece nigiri including chutoro and uni, a negitoro cut roll, sides and soup). Service was fantastic. Can't wait to come back!

It's one of the less expensive omakase in L A. The tuna and toro were very good, but variety of other kind of fish was limited. Nevertheless, it's a sushi place that offers good value.

The food was great and an incredible value for the quality. My lunch special was the tuna and toro bowl, which comes with miso soup and a side salad, for $28. It had 10 full sized sashimi pieces (5 tuna, 5 toro), ground toro and more chopped pieces of tuna underneath the ground fish that isn't visible in the photo. All this atop sushi rice. Just pure quality, no sauces needed to mask any funky flavors. Service and ambiance were A+ as well.

If you're a sushi lover you should absolutely try Soma Suisan. This little spot on La Cienga is just off of Melrose. There's plenty of street parking or it's a quick walk from West Hollywood. The vibes inside are really calm. The dining room is broken up into a few smaller spaces so it would feel a little more secluded even if every table was full. The service was outstanding. The servers are really nice, very knowledgeable about the chefs techniques and super attentive. The food came out quickly and was well paced. Really incredible service, I haven't had service this good in a long time. The food was great. I was dining with one other person and we ordered: addictive cucumber, fried eggplant, umami French fries, calamari salad, kanpachi carpaccio, tuna sampler, butter hotate scallops, unagi nigiri and a grilled salmon yaki. We also ordered pot of hot tea. Not big drinkers but the drink menu looked well rounded for a small restaurant. All the food was good, we finished almost everything. The standouts were the addictive cucumber, kanpachi carpaccio, calamari salad and the tuna sampler. The cucumber was delicious and salty. The calamari in the salad was fried super crispy but didn't taste like oil - the fry was light and crunchy in a way that highlighted the calamari. The tuna sampler was a great way to experience different cuts & flavors of tuna. The pieces were all awesome in their own way. The kanpachi carpaccio was delicious and definitely our favorite. I could eat it every day. Really clean flavors that were unique. Overall, the food was awesome. We decided to eat dessert somewhere else but I totally regret it. We should have stayed for matcha tiramisu or sweet potato brûlée. I obviously recommend trying soma suisan!

I had a great dinner with my friends at Soma Susan. Friendly staff and great service! The quality of the food was amazing for the price we paid. They are known for their tuna and the sashimi was amazing!! We even tried a rare part that was the throat part of the tuna fish which was almost like a steak!! (Got too excited and completely forgot the picture )Fantastic vibe and can't wait to go back to visit with my family. Went for lunch and had perhaps the best Japanese lunch in Los Angeles. The fish is fresh, the rice is perfectly prepared, and the desserts are delectable. Grateful that we were able to try this place before word gets out and it becomes impossible to get in.

It was the best sushi I have ever had it was very creamy and it melted in my mouth. It had a great taste and the ice cream was delightful it's hand made too. The service was great also. It felt calm with lofi music and it was very calmly decorated too, it was comfy.

A Gem. Great Sushi from the horse mackerel and golden snapper to the tuna sampler and giant pacific oysters. Impeccable service and personal staff. Chef came to the table. Great intimate atmosphere. Highly recommended.

The new go to spot in West Hollywood for authentic Japanese food. The ambiance is so cozy. We had a large group that was seated next to the fireplace. The food was all amazing fresh sushi, homemade tofu, snow crab and rice. You must order the desserts! Service was excellent and will back for sure!

Maybe it was a fluke but we ate here on Friday and had the WORST food poisoning. The service was thoughtful and the food all looked good (and was reasonably priced) but we have been paying for it for two days. I wish I could isolate the specific dish that did this, but suffice to say I won't be returning to find out.
