Somethin' Sweet Donuts

First time visiting this place, they have a good portion of options for donuts- as much as I wanted to try all of them, I chose to try the matcha filled one and blubbery filled. My fav was the blueberry bismark donut! Shop small and support small businesses like Somethin’ Sweet Donuts! Definitely check them out if you haven’t!

After my eye check-ip across the street, I stopped by to get coffee. I was pleasantly surprised to see ube donut . I of coutse had to get it as well as raspberry bismark, chocolate frosted bavarian cream and leek and parmesan pastry. They were all delicious, dough was soft and pillowy, the filling is not overly sweet. BTW, they have matcha-filled donuts as well for the matchaddicts. Even the leek parmesan pastry is on point. The coffee, big shoulders, I later learned is also a Chicago-local brand. It's deep and robust, just the way I like it with my sweets. I'm blessed to have this bakery in the neighborhood and glad to see them thrive. I should go more often ;)

It was my first time going here and lemme tell ya- there are a LOT of yummy unique flavors!!! Everyone was super chill and helpful. I bought the Maple Bacon Long John, Strawberry Frosted, Chocolate Oreo, and Apple Cinnamon. The Maple Bacon was an experience- a lovely one at that!

They have the best donuts in town! The staff is so kind and friendly here so if you feel like they aren't being nice to you, look inward because the only explanation in that instance is that you are a jerk. In addition to the donuts (which are all great!) I recommend trying 'somethin' savory' like a spinach and feta croissant as well! They hit the spot. The best donuts in my opinion are the Matcha Filled and the Apple Fritter. The coffee here is from the world famous (at least around the neighborhood) Bru Coffeeworks so grab yourself a cup of that too. So thankful these folks are in the neighborhood!

Oh man! You can tell this is really homemade! The employee told us it was family owned and gave us some recommendations for great Chicago places to check out. The donuts are great quality and so yummy! Pillow soft (I'd sleep on them!) I got this Ube donut (purple sweet potato), cold brew, and a hot mocha latte. We plan to come every morning for coffee while we're here!

The BEST donuts and pastries! I love that they are completely peanut free, which is hard to find for donut shops. The donuts are also very light compared to other shops. Highly recommend!

We love Somethin' Sweet! Their doughnuts are really good, and their specialty flavors (e.g. matcha and ube) are delicious and it's great to have options that are different than the usual chocolate/vanilla, etc. (though I love these flavors as well). I wanted to especially write a review about their awesome customer service. We put in a pre-order for our kiddo's birthday, and the day before the party my husband and I were sick and realized we needed to reschedule the party. I reached out to Somethin' Sweet to ask if we could change the date, and they were super flexible and worked with us. We really appreciated it!

Definitely worth stopping at! Our favorite donuts are the fruity pebbles, apple fritter, and strawberry frosted. You also get a student ID discount!

MY BIG BACK IS SCREAMING OF JOY LIKE A KID ON CHRISTMAS DAY! This is the best donuts I've had in years sorry Stan's donuts, unique flavors I bought a few to sample. I got the cherry cake donut, Ube bismark and the claw so funny looking yet so soft and yummy. The Thai iced coffee was so delicious not bitter, not stale a perfect melody. I'm kinda scared to write this review and everyone eats my favorite donuts. I hope I can find them when I come back. The staff or owner not sure was so friendly too

Cambodian/Khmer family-owned donut shop in the Albany Park area. I don't normally eat donuts because of how unhealthy they are, but once in a while always hits the spot. The ones we ordered from here were pretty bomb! I forgot how expensive donuts have gotten (miss the 50 cent donut days), but this place is totally worth it based kn flavor and freshness!

I don't eat donuts often but I saw this Ube donut all over Instagram and had to try it. Happy to report that it was so delicious. It was glazed on the outside and the matcha had sugar. Both fillings were not too sweet and the dough was soft and fluffy. Service is great and prices are reasonable. I will definitely come back to try more flavors!

Mmm! Something' Sweet had me at that cinnamon crumb apple donut. My coworker brought a box of celebratory donuts for my milestone birthday at work, and I thoroughly enjoyed all the flavors, almost as much as I enjoyed the whisper singing version of "Happy Birthday" because someone was on a conference call. Lol. I appreciated that these donuts were sweet but not cloyingly over sweet, esp on the old fashioned donuts. The chocolate iced chocolate cake donut was rich and delicious too. But if you must try one thing, get your hands on that cinnamon crumb donut! Not sure if it's seasonal, but I vote it should be an all year round coating! One day I'm coming to visit this shop in person. Mark my words!

This joint really knows what they are doing. They do the basics really well (Bavarian cream, sehr sehr gut) but also branch out with some unexpected options, such as cinnamon crunch blueberry. Mmm mmm. Cake doughnuts get a slight edge overall, but yeast-raised options are no slouch. Everything is good! Actually, as an apple fritter connoisseur, I've had better (it was flat and needed more apples), but everything else was an A or A+.

The donuts are always fresh and super soft, some of the best I've ever had. Whoever is behind the counter always greets you with a smile and a friendly attitude. The shop itself is small, yet cozy. There is a counter should you wish to stay and eat your treats or drink your coffee inside. The artwork is cool too.

This might be controversial but this is honestly the best donut joint in Chicago. I ordered from them two days in a row and by now I've had most of their menu. Here's what to expect: - light as air yeast raised donuts - cake donuts with mouthwatering flavor and spice. I recommend ALL but the apply and pumpkin spice are amazing. You can choose between glazed or cinnamon crumble topping - Bismarks with the perfect filling, not too sugary. - a Thai iced coffee that will SLAP you to heaven because I swear when I took my first sip of this stuff I saw GOD Idk I guess we'll live off of this place because I'm definitely ordering from them tomorrow . Great classic donuts! Service is quick, it's a must stop when in the neighborhood. Their sweet donuts are just as delicious as the savory pastries. The ube filled ones were okay I preferred the red velvet.

Donuts and coffee were yummy and fresh. Not every coffee place has my hubby's favorite sweeteners but they had em! My kids had an oreo shake and pineapple smoothie. We were happy campers. Workers were friendly! Clean with that cool vintage feel! Happy to support the local businesses in Chicago!

Craving a fresh donut and I stumbled upon this Roscoe Village neighborhood gem on DoorDash. I couldn't choose just one so I selected 6 and a fruit smoothie with tapioca. My order arrived as expected but there was no boba in my smoothie. I had a handwritten note from the store they were out of tapioca and so they gave me a free donut! Perfect! It was more than what the refund would be and the other donut flavor I wanted to try. The donuts were delicious! Light fluffy texture for the yeast donuts and just sweet enough without being a sugar overload. The fresh fruit smoothie was mango strawberry with no artificial additions. The chocolate old fashioned has the best combination of chocolate frosting to donut ratio. The Apple fritter is flatter than you might expect but the flavor is wonderful. The pumpkin spice cake donut is lighter than your average cake donut perfectly spiced. Can't wait to try the rest! Thoughtful service and delicious fresh baked donuts. Looking forward to stopping in person soon.

This place is nothing special. If you NEED a donut and have no other place to go to, come here. It's not that the donuts taste bad, they were just so generic. It tasted like a grocery store donut. Place was clean and service was good.

The donuts from this place are great! I was having some plumbing work done at my house and figured I'd pick up some bakery items for the crew to say thanks. The staff here gave me a great assortment of 8 donuts, which were all soft and fresh. The red velvet donut, glazed donut, and cake donut were super appreciated by the guys. My husband snagged a chocolate frosted donut and said it was very good as well. Good quality for a good price.

Have been getting donuts at this and the previous location- always amazing!! The specialty donuts are unique and delicious, my coworkers mentioned them by name weeks after I brought them in for my birthday.

This is simply the best donut shop in Chicago. It's a SoCal type place with all the donuts. Thanks Uncle Ted! My personal favorite is the Red Velvet Crumb. The chocolate old fashioned and chocolate devil are also really good. Heck, I haven't had a bad or even average donut from this place.

Their homemade cinnamon donut and an espresso on a Sunday morning is sure to brighten up any weekend. A true delight.

A delicious addition to the neighborhood. One recent weekend I picked up a ham and cheese croissant, and two sprinkled donuts, one cake, one glazed. The croissant was one of the best pre-made sandwiches I've had; fresh, delicious meaty ham, creamy cheese, wrapped in notes of butter. All this flavor and freshness even after quickly reheating it at home. Outstanding. Their sprinkled donuts are models of the form, so densely loaded with sprinkles any urban planner would be proud. The donuts themselves were high quality too, the cake donut was light and airy while the glazed donut had a richness and exceptional depth of flavor. Highly recommended.

A safe-bet donut shop. Clean, the donuts were solid, the service friendly, but the prices are just under the boutique shop prices- so, "affordable."

This is a dainty lil donut shop with fair prices, cute aesthetic, and a variety of flavors. I've been meaning to try this place because of their pretty seasonal designs I see on IG. While the flavors aren't as unique as a place like Firecakes, the price point is decent. I am not a fan of overly sweet desserts so I really enjoyed the lemon bismark and crumble donuts which were just the right amount of sweet and perfect pairing with coffee/tea.

I'm shocked by how good they are! As a true donut lover, My favorite donuts on earth are tied between Voodoo Donuts in Portland Oregon, and Zettlemeier's in Tinley Park, Illinois. One of my Sons recommended this little place. I immediately enjoyed the decor, as well as how clean it was inside. Two staff there, both seemed nice. We ordered a dozen, with many different to test (wink, wink). I ordered a cup of regular coffee to wash down those tests. The donuts are delicious, and a very close second to my favorites. The coffee was as good as you would hope for a good donut shop. This place deserves the five stars for taste, freshness, variety, and having a cute and clean shop. I recommend it highly.

I love donuts and have been meaning to try this place for forever. Apple fritters are my absolute favorite so I'm always try those when available and am always on the hunt for a good one. While their apple fritters may not look like much at first glance I'm happy to report that they're delicious. Excellent apple flavor with a tasty glaze and crunch exterior. They're flatter than other fritters I've had but that actually works out because puffy fritters can tend to be too doughy which drowns out the apple flavor and ends up tasting like bread. Not here! The glazed raspberry jelly bismark was also delicious and the jelly filling tasted super fresh and not at all fake or processed. I'm typically not a cake donut fan but I got an apple crisp and a glazed red velvet to try since people had raved about them. They were both very tender and not dry at all but the apple one could've used more of an apple flavor. Red velvet was great and I'd definitely get it again. Can't wait to go back and try more!

Besides regular donuts I really like their specialty ones the best. Ube (Taro) and matcha are to die for. My husband really likes their Bavarian cream donuts the best. They serve coffee expresso lattes and tea. Since I've last been here (they are way out of my way) they've add bubble tea too. I'll have to try it next time now that I know. It's a family run place and they're Chinese and Cambodian. I like the friendly and quick service they provide.

I am a loyal fan of the Somethin' sweet donuts brand ever since going to the original location and interacting with the owner Jimmy. I had the chance to check this new location out some days back. The layout & decor is similar to the original, so it brings fond memories. The donuts, confections and savory items have all the same great taste. Somethin' Sweet differs from other chains in their selections. For every flavor of donut, there are two specific styles. Both are cake like and either topped with a glaze or crunchy bits. Apple fritters, Bavarian creme, etc are considered premium confections and don't count towards 1/2 or full dozen pricing. They also offer savory pastries, such as a croissant like pastry with spinach or ham and cheese. The confections are tasty and prepared fresh. Each are packed with great flavor and textures. What lacks IMO is personality. The family member at the counter was alright, but, it just wasn't the same as visiting with Jimmy. In a confections shop, a bit of smile and glee would be nice. Of course not necessary. But those of us that like to fund local businesses with our monies; it's nice getting to know proprietors and staff. Even in the smallest interactions. No entry greeting, no small talk and no personality..

I didn't see all the donuts I usually see posted here but the donuts I did have were amazing. I got a dozen for my coworkers and they were all impressed. I was especially pleased with the lemon filled as I love lemon . Can't wait to taste more options.

I had an issue with the workers ignoring me and not saying hello when I walked in. Another lady came in after me and she was promptly greeted! I sent an email to complain thinking nothing would come of it. Instead I promptly got an email from the owner Andrew which said: Thank you so much for reaching out and this is completely unacceptable and we do not condone this type of behavior from our employees! I will get to the bottom of this so that I can make things right for you. As a minority myself who've experienced similar micro-aggressions, I want to assure you that I absolutely will not tolerate this type of behavior in my own place of business. I am very disappointed to hear how our service was for you today and I will immediately work to rectify this problem. My son and I came in later that week and he gave us free donuts and a 30 gift card. I felt sooooo valued and seen! He didn't invalidate my feelings. I really appreciate that! I still come as often as I can and he will FOREVER have a customer in me! Love him!

I happened upon this spot while exploring and seeing what was new to the area since I used to live over here. With a craving for donuts, it was perfect! There was a grand opening sign and no line, so I walked right up to the counter and got a few things to try. The chocolate bavarian creme has a good ratio of light, soft dough to creme on the inside which was perfect and reachable within one bite. The pink with sprinkles was also really light and soft and I loved the frosting on it. They have bear claws, old fashioned donuts, cake donuts, glazed, and also a variety of scones. My favorite bite here was actually the spinach and cheese pastry. The dude told me to microwave for 20 seconds for perfection and he wasn't lying! It was so puffy and had so much flavor with just enough cheese and spinach to fill it out. Happy I got to try it today! looks like they have ice cream, drinks, and indoor seating as well, so come and try it all!

They owners and their children are so nice. I love their donuts and their red velvet donut are amazing! I don't eat donuts often but when I do I will drive 20 minutes to get some of theirs.

Really great donuts!!!! Took a star off because they were out of a couple but I did get there around noon... get there early if you can. We liked the strawberry and blueberry one. They also have some coffees and tea.

Their Albany Park location is my go to donut shop. It is conveniently located on Kedzie and is family owner and operated. They make a variety of fresh, moist donuts as well as coffee, smoothies, ice cream, and other drinks. I usually get a mocha and whatever seasonal donut they have. I'll maybe a traditional chocolate too because quite frankly I don't have the self control to just have one.

Great donuts and Thai iced tea! My favorite donut was their chocolate donut with sprinkles and red velvet. Their donuts are all so fluffy and warm! Their Thai iced tea was really good, it just had a lot of ice in mine. Definitely will come back to visit!

Continuing the trend of trying to support local businesses during this COVID-19 nightmare - and this sweet treat spot is the place to be ! Right now I think they're open from 6-4 PM , They had an ample number of options when I came in around 9:30 and it was 11$ for a half a dozen . The doughnuts tasted great (I had a blueberry doughnut ) and it was moist and flavored perfectly . The guy working was nice as well and answered all my questions . I will definitely be back to pick up some more !

Cute spot to stop in and try. Everything we tried tasted fresh. We stopped in around 8:45am so I expected to get some warm donuts but they weren't. They were still very good!

This is our favorite donut shop on the northwest side. They're fluffy yeast donuts are my favorite. I've never thought much about longjohns, feeling that most of the time they're just bland planks for splatterings of sugar, but Somethin's light and fluffy batter combines with flavorful icing and a satisfying chew, to make this my new favorite donut. My kids adore the ever-changing sprinkle varieties, and my husband loves all the different flavored cake donuts, especially red velvet and an apple cinnamon variety. The staff is patient and moves quickly with the early morning rushes so that even though there are usually a few people right when they open, I've never had to wait there long no matter what time of day I come. Their coffee is solid and they have a cooler with a selection of other drinks. I only wish they would sell T-shirts or merch, because their branding is epically cool!

Wow! Someone brought donuts to work from this place. I'm one of those people who cuts a donut in half so I can try a few different flavors. Chocolate, red velvet, vanilla. All moist not too sweet and so good. My next donut trip will definitely be here.

1 dozen donuts is almost 40 bucks (6 specialty 6 regular). Price aside, when I was trying to ask the lady that was there a couple of questions she seemed annoyed and bothered. The cherry donut was good, everything else was ok and tasted stale the next day. The hours weren't updated online which bothered me a bit, having to drive an hour roundtrip to go to a closed shop. Also a paper box to separate donuts was also an extra dollar. Overall: service 3 stars, donuts 3.8 stars, price 2 stars, website 2 stars.

I have now ordered from this place twice and each time has been perfection. The donuts are perfect and the drinks are delicious. I am not a fan of fruit donuts and today in my assorted half dozen I asked for only donuts without fruit and they listened and came through with an amazing assortment of fruit less donuts. I highly recommend them.
