Best Restaurants and Bars to Try on Convoy Street in Kearny Mesa | Eater San Diego

"If hankering for Korean barbecue, try Song Hak Korean Barbecue, a homestyle joint that specializes in different types of marinated beef intestines. Gopchang, daechang, makchang, and prime pork belly are favorites, cooked on the tabletop grill. The high-quality meats are half-cooked in the kitchen, then brought out to the table where customers can finish barbecuing on the table grill. Song Hak branched out from Los Angeles, but the San Diego location has other favorite Korean noodle dishes, like Jjajangmyeon. Other comfort food dishes worth trying are the dolsot bibimbap, LA galbi, and samgyetang, a comforting chicken soup with Korean ginseng, garlic, and astragalus." - Helen I. Hwang

Gopchang, daechang, makchang, and prime pork belly are favorites, cooked on the tabletop grill. Barbecue dishes are cooked on the tabletop grill, and be sure to order the fried rice after the grilling is done to soak up all the juices. ★★★★★ Amazing Korean BBQ Experience! I had an incredible dining experience at SongHak Korean BBQ in San Diego! From the moment we walked in, the staff was welcoming and attentive. We ordered the Combo 3, and every cut of meat was fresh, tender, and packed with flavour. The staff even helped cook the meat to perfection, which made the experience even better. The side dishes were amazing—I loved the kimchi, potato salad, and bean sprouts. Plus, the steamed egg and corn cheese that came with our combo were a delicious bonus! The atmosphere was lively but comfortable, making it a great place to enjoy a meal with friends or family. Yes, parking can be a bit tricky during peak hours, but it’s 100% worth it. If you're looking for authentic Korean BBQ with top-notch quality and service, this is the place to go! Can’t wait to come back!

Google
Back at Songhak again! I really do love that there's a kbbq spot thats not AYCE, and you can come here to order just what you want. This time we went with Prime Combo #2, meant to feed 2-3 people with: - Beef bulgogi - Beef brisket - pork belly - kimchi stew - steamed egg - corn cheese - various sides/banchan This was more than enough to feed the three people in our group with leftovers to spare! The kbbq is cooked and cut for you at your table which is a nice break from me usually being the cook at kbbq spots LOL but if that's something you enjoy, you can still have your fun! We also had also ordered japchae bc we love noodles and this one was done nicely with a good amount of meat and veggies! Parking is tight, but if you're patient (or lucky) and get a spot, this meal is well worth it! —— previous review ——- Ok just may have found the perfect kbbq spot for me in San Diego! I love kbbq in general, but sometimes AYCE is a lot! Song Hak is not AYCE and you can order Ala carte or in combos. We went with the prime combo #3 which is meant to serve 2-3 people. It’s a good amount of meat so it would prob be two VERY hungry people but we were 3 and still had leftovers. This combo came with Wagyu Beef Belly, Seasoned Boneless Short Rib Cut (Prime Chuck Flap Short Rib, Prime Bulgogi, and Prime Pork Jowl. Combos also come with corn cheese, a steamed egg pot, and soybean paste stew. We loved everything! Combo 3 had a good mix of meats and each of us had a different favorite but overall loved it all. Staff were super helpful and actually started off the cooking and cutting for us which was nice. We also ordered the seamed pork and chive dumpling with was very good!

Google
Outstanding Korean BBQ experience. I had never tried intestine before, but since it’s a specialty here, we tried the Dae Chang (large beef intestine). It was full of flavor and had an interesting texture. We also ordered the Wagyu Beef Belly, Prime Pork Jowl, and the Prime Brisket. Our waitress put the meat on the grill for us and adjusted the heat when needed. Per usual for Korean BBQ, the accompanying sides were awesome. We also ordered ChumChurum Soju (sugar free) and Cass beer which came with small glasses to measure and mix the two drinks together. Luckily we were with someone who regularly orders Korean BBQ, so we were taught how to enjoy the beverages and food. Ordering four meat dishes was plenty of food for our group of 4 and they offered boxes for the food we didn’t quite finish which was nice. Parking was a little tricky due to the many businesses in this area; however, just down the street is a paid public parking lot for just $3 an hour. Highly recommend this spot!

UPDATE 6/25/25: There's a reason we keep coming back - Songhak has some of the best quality kbbq! We are such die-hard fans of their bbq combos, but today we tried something different and just got a full order of beef belly and an order of the Galbi Jim and added cheese. Service is excellent as always - they help cook up your bbq and change the grill as needed. The Galbi Jim came out on a sizzling plate, but after our beef belly was done cooking our waitresses took out the grill and set the pot of Galbi Jim on top to keep it warm. You can order this with either soy based sauce or a spicy sauce with level 1-3 spice, and we really loved level 2 spicy. You still get all the bonchon and garnishes like onions and bean sprouts and radish slices for the bbq. Pro Tip- since this spot is notoriously crowded and parking is a challenge, we like to come on a weekday in between the lunch and dinner rushes. We found parking more easily and the restaurant was quite peaceful and comfortable to dine there as a family with our son. We always have the best experience whenever we come here. We always get the Prime Combo 1 which has brisket, beef belly and pork jowl, and includes corn cheese, steamed egg and soy bean stew, along with bonchon. We love the service here too - the server helps is cool it all up to perfection, and when we order spicy fried rice with cheese at the end, she preps it all then puts it on our grill to melt the cheese. Perfect every time. The place has always been pristine clean and bright too. This time we also tried the chadol champon, which is a spicy noodle soup with brisket. The portion was huge! We will definitely be back again. We want to try more of their non bbq items but just can't pass up that combo 😆

Every time we've come back, we are reminded of how amazing the food is here! - PARKING - The parking lot is almost always full due to the fact there are so many amazing businesses! You'll have to hope you get lucky and come in when someone is leaving, or opt to park on a neighboring street and walk over. - SERVICE/ENVIRONMENT - Fairly decent dining area! They have a few tables dedicated to BBQ and other ones that don't have the stove. The service here is always so welcoming, and unlike the AYCE KBBQ spots, they help you cook the meat here. If it gets busy, the staff may step aside and you'll have to make sure the meat doesn't burn, but that's not an issue most of the time! They also continuously change out your grill without you asking! - FOOD - Prime Combo #3: Our favorite combo as it has all our favorite meats! I love how it comes with corn cheese, steamed egg and stew! The Wagyu Beef Belly, Pork Jowl, Short Rib and Bulgogi all are delicious! Jjajangmyeon: So saucey and addictive to eat! Lots of noodles to go around here! Kimchi Pancake: Also a very decent size for a shareable appetizer! This actually was on the spicy side surprisingly! - OVERALL - A great spot if you don't want to overeat at AYCE and want some quality meat instead!

Songhak truly delivers an unforgettable experience! From the moment I arrived, everything was smooth, professional, and welcoming. The quality, attention to detail, and overall atmosphere were beyond impressive. It’s clear that the team behind Songhak takes great pride in what they do. Highly recommended for anyone looking for excellence — I’ll definitely be back!

Google
Songhak is one of the OG spots on Convoy and honestly still one of the best. The quality here is up there from the meats to the side dishes, everything is super flavorful and always hits. It’s not ayce but the quality more than makes up for it. Our go-to order is the Prime Combo #1, which comes with brisket, wagyu beef belly (pro tip: you can swap out the pork jowl), and prime pork jowl. We also ALWAYS get the large intestine, which is seriously underrated. One of my favorite things about this place is that they cook everything for you and make sure it’s done perfectly. The service is always great, and I’ve never had a bad experience here. Highly recommend if you’re looking for quality KBBQ in San Diego.

Google
As a first time hot pot goer I was overwhelmed with the choices and honestly confused as how to order just enough for one person, all the hotpot/self cooking options were for 2-4 people. So I settled on some spicy noodles with kimchi. It was delicious and the people I went with shared their food with me. Everything we tried was fantastic. Great spot for a quick Asian meal.

Yelp
Song Hak KBBQ is an absolute gem! Don't let the fact that it's not an all-you-can-eat KBBQ spot deter you - their Songhak Combos offer incredible value and variety. We started with the Buchu pancake, a Korean pancake filled with chives. Paired with the red dipping sauce, it's a match made in heaven! The texture is perfectly crispy, and we couldn't get enough of it. For our entrees, we opted for the Medium Songhak Combo ($60.99 and perfect for 2 people), which came with three types of meat, corn cheese, steamed egg, and our choice of soybean paste or kimchi stew. We went for the large intestine (11/10 recommended!), prime pork belly, and prime pork jowl. Each meat was expertly prepared and packed with flavor. The sides were also top-notch, with the steamed egg stealing the show. I'm a tough critic when it comes to steamed eggs, but this one was spot on! The corn cheese and kimchi stew were also delicious. The meats were truly impressive. The large intestine was a game-changer - its "low fat powerhouse" description is no exaggeration. It's a must-try for anyone looking to mix things up. The prime pork belly was also a standout. We rounded out our meal with two sides of rice and a bowl of Jja jang myun (Korean Chinese black bean noodle). It was the perfect accompaniment to our meats. To drink, we enjoyed strawberry flavored soju and Cass beer - a match made in heaven! Overall, our experience at Song Hak KBBQ exceeded our expectations. The service was excellent, and we can't wait to return with a larger group to share this gem with friends. **Pro Tips:** * Arrive before 5pm to avoid parking woes. * Take advantage of lunch specials (Mon-Thurs, 11:30am-3pm) for discounted prices on select menu items. * Don't miss the large intestine - it's a hidden gem!

Yelp
Staff was extremely rude. Snatched tongs from my fathers hand and tried to "show the correct way" to cook. There were plenty of other people around and the staff only kept hovering around our table turning the burner off when the meat wasn't cooked yet. Staff was speaking very loudly as if we couldn't understand what they were saying. Meanwhile, they spoke very politely to other customers. Had a party of 4 and they wrote on the check how much we should tip. Please don't come here if you're POC! There are plenty of other nicer places on Convoy!

Yelp
Overpriced for the quality of food and service. Suggest going down the street to Olleh.

Yelp
2.5 stars. Truly the worst customer service I've ever experienced at a restaurant, but I felt like 2 stars was too harsh because they were obviously understaffed. Came here with my friend on a Saturday night. We managed to find parking in the tiny lot out front. Got seated immediately, but it took at least 20 minutes for someone to take our order. The meats and sides we ordered were fine, and I don't mind waiting but it's like none of the staff had the night before. Multiple people kept promising they would bring us things like rice, extra plate, to-go box, sesame oil... but those things never showed up, even when we reminded them multiple times. Saw the same thing happen to other tables, too. The only upside was that there wasn't a wait around 7:00 when we arrived. Got lucky! But honestly it was stressful to be amidst the mass chaos in this tiny place. We didn't need to be there for 2 hours. With so many other KBBQ restaurants in this neighborhood, I can't justify coming to SongHak again, but hopefully YOU have a good experience here!

Yelp
I love the smell of K BBQ. It sticks on you and your clothes for the rest of the day, but freshly griling your own meats is just unbeatable. SongHak is a quality addition to the Convoy line-up. The pros: -Clean. The restaurant felt very clean and orderly. -Lots of premium meat options -Good additional dishes, like the kimchi fried rice (one of my favorites) The cons (or just really one): -Super expensive! This isn'y ayce, so you know you're getting better quality, but the price is still pretty hard to justify for the quantity of food.

Yelp
Food was yummy, service was good. Didn't realize 18% gratuity was included in the bill, but the servers cooked for us, so I guess I should've expected. But I wonder if there was a choice if I wanted to cook?

Yelp
We were in the mood for some kbbq and went here for dinner tonight. It was empty when we arrived, but picked up while we were dining. We got our usual- bulgolgi, brisket, and the galbi meal (comes with kimchi soup). Service was friendly and quick. Our meats were delicious and server helped us cook as well. The kimchi was particularly good tonight! Too bad I forgot to get the fried rice at the end!

Yelp
Another amazing visit at Songhak! We loved our experience last time and wanted to come back to support the business! This time we got to try their Tteokbokki and their Fish Cake Soup, which were both amazing! The Tteokbokki was nice and chewy, and had the right amount of spice! The Fish Cake Soup was super clean broth, but still had a lot of flavor! They gave plenty of Fish Cake Skewers as well! We loved the Combo #3 so much last time we had to get it again! The meat was just as delicious as before, and the staff were always ready to help us cook! Super attentive throughout the meal! I will definitely bring back more friends to try out the amazing food offered here!
google avatar

Yelp
Visited again after it had been a while, this time to completely try some other things. I didn't do the kbbq but did enjoy some traditional, comfort dishes like japchae and bibimbap. Super delicious! Staff is always wonderful here as well.

Yelp
Finally got to try SongHak BbQ and boy did I really enjoy the Korean bbq here! This place is on my top 5 for getting your Korean bbq fix. This is not an AYCE so you don't feel pressured having to order so much and not finishing it. Either menu order a la carte or combos. The portions for the meat were just right! My family and I did the Prime Combo #1 and it was enough for all of us including the sides that come with it! Got to also try the Somyum jang gook and my first time having cold ramen and it was tasty! They have a variety of items on their menu that look delicious and will be back to try! Lisa took great care of us and loved how attentive she was. =)
google avatar

Cindy L.

Yelp
Choose SongHak if you're not looking for ayce. This place has a great selection of meats and they cook the meats for you! ALSO THE CORN CHEESE. They had great amount of banchans, better than the ayce places. If you're feeling adventurous, try their intestines and it melts in your mouth. The servers would always check in with us regularly and attentive. I would come back here again for quality meats that would satisfy your tummy, instead of bursting into a food coma. I would recommend ordering their prime combo and an extra corn cheese for 3 people. It was a perfect amount to feel completely full.
google avatar

Tran T.

Yelp
The meat quality was AMAZING! My first time ever having intestines and it was so so good, I was so surprised but so happy I got to try it. So many different noodle dishes , and the banchans are top quality Love how its so spacious here too! Cant wait to come back, and next time I'll get the rice after the bbq

Yelp
No no no San Diego, this ain't it. This is by far one of the worst Korean BBQ experiences I've ever had (and I've probably been to a hundred different KBBQ restaurants) Overpriced, trash meat quality, absolutely no care for food quality or taste. Service is atrocious and not in the "the best Korean restaurants have bad service" way. The server did not come by once during the entire meal to place meat on the grill or flip the meat. Avoid at all costs, for your own sake
google avatar

Jiselle T.

Yelp
Great service, delicious food, clean restaurant. We ordered the LA kalbi meal with corn and cheese. The corn and cheese was delicious. Would definitely come back.

Yelp
Met up with a few friends at a place we'd never tried. They sell premium Korean bbq. FYI the parking lot is pretty small, but somehow a spot or two seems available. We were greeted by a friendly waitress. The menu has plenty of options. I would say $80-$100 feeds three pretty well! Felicia meats you grill at your table, but the waitress can help with the cooking too. I also tried a seafood pancake that was really tasty! It's a small but intimate place. I enjoyed it!
google avatar

Jennifer A.

Yelp
Wonderful k bbq, nice staff, love how you can customize what you like to eat enjoyed the scallops and the wagyu beef :) fun times in Convoy district, I also ended up getting pork belly, short ribs, and Wagyu brisket. The tea is yummy as well:)
google avatar

Bethany M.

Yelp
I'm not a big AYCE fan - the quality of the meats tends to be hit-or-miss. SongHak is not AYCE; they offer a somewhat smaller menu with a focus on quality proteins. The banchan was excellent; the bean sprouts in particular. Our server was very attentive and inquired re: refills of the banchan throughout the meal (yes, please!). Kimchi was okay - not spicy or unctuous enough for my taste, but that was the only let-down during the meal. We enjoyed the galbi (bone-in), beef tongue and pork jowl in particular. You can grill your meats yourself, or the servers will assist. The chive pancake was terrific; I would definitely recommend ordering it or one of the other pancake options. They are light on batter, and have a lovely crispness at the edges. Our younger family members loved the corn cheese as well.

Yelp
We came during lunch and was able to be seated right away. The tables starting filling up pretty fast, so plan accordingly, especially navigating Convoy parking. As you walk up you smell all the fresh meat being grilled up. We ordered the $79 bbq for two people. The staff was nice and helped throughout the meal with cooking the meats and describing all the different shareable appetizers. All the food was good and the portion sizes were generous. I think this is a good value for the quality and quantity of food. I will definitely be returning when the itch for Korean BBQ calls my name.

Yelp
Cute spot, service was amazing! As a half-Korean girly I'm always excited to try new KBBQ spots... But I made the mistake of coming in with high expectations thanks to IG. Sadly it didn't live up to what I imagined, but that's on me! :( Don't get me wrong, the food was good- But I've definitely tasted better at places that were way less expensive.

James K.

Yelp
This was the first time in my life where I had a restaurant server kimchijjigae without having any kimchi in it. It was served on cold stone bowl. Uh... Stone bowl is for hot food. Not cold. We complained to the lady server that this was not kimchijjigae and she stared right into my eyes and said " yes it is". I was baffled how she corrected me. Uh... Being Korean I think I know what kimchijjigae is. We order $150 worth of meat, Chadol, ggotsal and makchang. They severed makchang first so we had to grill premium meat on the wrong grill. Uh.... Who serves makchang first? There was a black couple sitting next to us and the restaurant served them Chadol meat that was mostly fat. The lady sat and cut the fat off individually as the frozen meat started to melt in her hands before she put them on the grill for good 20 min. Seriously... This couple deserves an apology from the restaurant.

Yelp
I've never tried gopchung (intestines) before and have seen it everywhere lately due BTS' popularity. It's a common dish that is enjoyed in Korean culture. We went on a Thursday afternoon and it was nice, quiet, and empty. I like it when restaurants aren't too crowded and we went after the lunch rush. We ordered the medium gopchung special with the small and large intestines and pork jowl (cheek). I believe the intestines were of pork. They give you alot of ban chan (side dishes), kimchi jigae (kimchi stew), steamed egg, and two refreshing salads (chive and regular lettuce). For the amount we paid for the both of us, the portion sizes were great and big! Everything covered our table! Get the corn cheese! It's my favorite side dish! It's essentially corn, mayo, and mozzarella cheese on a sizzling, hot skillet. I don't like liver tasting things and to my surprise, I enjoyed both the small and large intestines. The trick is to cook them until there is a fried, crispy outer coating. There is alot of oil and fat coming out of the intestines but that is what makes it so decadent! Small intestines: 7/10 - There is a very ever so slight livery aftertaste but it was not bad at all. I dipped it in some korean pepper paste and sesame oil and it was delicious. It tastes like a fried, not as crispy, juicy chicharron. Large intestines: 8/10 - I enjoyed this every much as it was very fatty and rich. If you don't like fatty meats, then this is not for you. It can be a bit too much but that's why you cut the fattiness and grease with the chive salad and ban chan. The kimchi went perfectly with this as it provided that sharp, refreshing, spicy, and fermented contrast to the umami flavor and fattiness of the large intestines. Pork jowl: 9/10 - my favorite! So tender, juicy, and the texture is lovely. It just melts in your mouth! If you never had pork jowl before, try it out! It's like eating tender beef tongue! The service was awesome! Our waitress was so sweet and attentive and made sure to check up on us often. Definitely come try this place out! You won't be disappointed!

Yelp
Really good meat quality here! i will say the barbecue options are more on the pricier side so be prepared. The large intestine or daechang is very good here. The quality is unmatched with anywhere else in San Diego. The meat isnt gamey at all. One con is that the service may not be the best considering there is never enough servers working to take each tables orders. That means you will really have to watch your meat and make sure it doesnt burn, which can be difficult because of the way the barbecue is set up. I recommend getting the daechang and hanjungsal combo. It comes with soup, corn cheese, and steamed egg.

Yelp
Never experienced such terrible customer service at a korean bbq place before. It wasn't even busy! Never changed our grill, came over just once to help us cook, and asked how we were doing only at the end of the meal. 18% gratuity for no service. The meat itself was the worst ever. Tough and chewy...rather it be the brisket or the short rib, all poor quality. And the icing for this terrible experience is the ridiculous inflated price tag. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else.
google avatar

David Z.

Yelp
With all the Korean bbq places around convoy, I was never able to chance upon this place. Located in a small plaza next to steamy piggy, this unassuming bbq spot was unexpectedly very delicious. The inside is very basic. However, service was really on point. We ordered the Galbi, the brisket, and a seafood pancake to share. The meat quality was excellent. Left feeling full and definitely want to come back again.

Yelp
Came here on a Wednesday night Valentines, and there were still plenty of open seats available despite the waitlist saying there was a 30 minute wait. We were seated the moment we arrived. The place is small and homey, but also very steamy and cluttered. The table we sat at was in the middle of the room and there were no vents above us so the steam caused a lot of coughing and tearing. We got the combo number 1, which was a 2 person meal for $70 that came with beef brisket, beef belly, and pork jowl. The meats were just ok, the marbling looks good but the brisket a bit too lean and the wagyu wasn't as meaty as. I would have hoped. Pork jowl was pretty good though, almost like a pork belly. The sides were a bit disappointing as well, especailly the bean sprouts not seasonsed with sesame oil. All in all, there are some good parts but many disappointing parts makes up a forgettable experience and I don't think I'll be coming back again.

Yelp
We had a great time at Songhak! Staff are super friendly and helpful. There's plenty of seating- great for groups! And the meats are so delicious. We ordered the Prime Combo 2 that comes with prime bulgogi, prime beef brisket and prime pork belly. The combos also come with a corn cheese plate, steamed egg pot, kimchi stew and banchan to share. Everything was so flavorful! There were 4 of us and it was definitely enough food! The staff can also help cook the food for you if you'd prefer. Parking can be tough in Convoy so I suggest visiting on a weekday. But there is also street parking available.
google avatar

Tammy N.

Yelp
Definitely my favorite spot for Korean BBQ! This is not an all you can eat Korean BBQ spot. You order a la carte or combos. We did Combo 3 which includes wagyu beef belly, boneless short rib, bulgogi, and pork jowl. The meat is a lot higher quality than AYCE spots. All combos come with a corn cheese, steamed egg, and kimchi tofu stew. Seems pricy at first but the servings were pretty large and we were full. They even cook the meat for you. Overall such a great spot for quality meats. Service is amazing. Parking can be difficult in this lot especially at night. I would highly recommend SongHak!

Yelp
One of the best KBBQ spots in San Diego. The meat is always so fresh. Love their pork belly. Their bon chons, soup, and steam eggs are also so good and goes so perfectly with the meal. I'm always so full afterwards. Their service is always amazing and they always help you cook and cut the meat. Anytime we crave KBBQ this is the place to go.
google avatar

Han L.

Yelp
This was bad. I asked the worker if I should still eat here because we didn't want to eat bbq. We were walking around and they had tables open. They said the non-bbq items were decent and so we ordered. dduk kook- so salty jjajjagmyun- best thing we had, but not great still. hmart is better. jampong was inedible. I tried to eat it, I really did. But, I couldn't. Did not eat it. nengmyun- pretty bad. noodles were all clumped together. The meat is probably better here, but I wouldn't come here to eat any of this stuff. Maybe they should just take it off the menu.

Yelp
Came here on a Wednesday night and was disappointed. We waited in line through Yelp and although it stated 40 minutes, that was a lie because there were plenty of seating when we arrived. Anyways, the amount of smoke that was in the room is ridiculous. I was coughing nonstop because the middle area literally have NO VENTILATION. So, if you know that you're ordering something with a grill, request to sit at the side because that's where the ventilations are at. If not, then inhaling all these smoke is going to BAD for your HEALTH. With a place that is known for their grilling, I was also expecting the grill to attach to the table, not some regular grill you can get from a market. Anyways, a suggestion is that maybe they can seat those who are interested in the grill to the side and the entrees only customer in the middle? We ended up getting the Prime Combo #1 which came with side dishes, Prime Beef Brisket, Wagyu Beef Belly, and Prime Pork Jowl. Again, disappointed. Majority of the meat had a WHOLE TON OF FAT. It was also very oily which is understandable considering how it was from the meat but for a place that isn't AYCE, I expect better quality. Side dishes were also very bland and had similar yet minimal ingredients to one another. Not authentic. I was also very disappointed with the customer service but at the same time, there were only two waitresses that day, so what more can I say? Regardless, I wish our waitress could be a bit more welcoming. I moved the grill to the center of our 4 seated table because of how close the grill was to our face and thinking about the amount of oil splashing onto our faces was not going to be fun. I didn't think it was a big deal, but she questioned and made us feel so bad for doing so. When the meat arrived, I understood why she wanted the grill at the side, it for easy accessibility when dumping our meat onto the grill. I'm not against servers doing this, however, for a party of two, I dislike it when the staffs dump 2/3 of our meat thinking we can eat that fast. On top of that, not once did she check up on the meat or us afterwards. Again, not a big deal but everything that she threw onto the grill ended up being overcooked or cold if taken out earlier. The next unpleasant interaction is when we asked for a grill change. She didn't seem quite happy because it was adding more workload but if that's the case, just hire more employee so that each individual can provide excelling customer service. Overall, I would not be back. I've had plenty of KBBQ places and this place was not it. First thing that they should do is provide more ventilation!

Yelp
party of 10, no sense of service or urgency. its a Sunday night not even a packed restaurant. Why only have two old ladies working the floor if you have 30+ people to serve. kept asking if we needed anything. while there was no food at our table and us needing to remind them we placed the order already 3 times. Portion is blasphemously small considering it was $80/large combo and we had to order 3 combos for our party of 10 mind you, 5 of us are small girls btw. our large party got double sat at a table without a grill and they placed an entire flame n grill on the bare table, only protected by a slice of parchment paper which felt extremely dangerous and oil was spilling all over our table that we had to clean up ourselves. :( Food quality is decent, side dishes are nonexistent, water will not be refilled unless you get up and do a mating performance to grab anyone's attention. good luck LMFAO

Yelp
Good Korean food. Intestines. Bbq or regular. They have the cold noodles. meat was well marinated. Pricing competitive. Lady really nice. There's only 2 servers. So not fast service but good enough. Not exactly fancy. But it has beer and soju and intestines. So you know.

Yelp
Absolute worst experience at kbbq ive ever had in my entire life. Extremely rushed service for absolutely no reason with less than half the tables filled. The young girl who was the server spilled kimchi and water all over the table because she was rushed changing out the grill which is also extremely dangerous. We asked them to change out our meat choice because it was entirely fat but they said they couldnt for whatever reason and said it was normal which isnt the case because weve been there a couple times and ordered the same stuff. Super disappointed by their downgrade in service. Ambiance is poor and again, rushed. Would not recommend at all. Service was super rude.

Yelp
Best Korean place in San Diego, the service is always great as well but more importantly the food is delicious with a fair price. I don't think you'll find a galbi combo in SD for $25 anywhere else. I do think the kimchi is a little too sour but that's my own personal preference. The main dishes definitely make up for it. These are the dishes I have tried: jajamyeon- 9/10 Cold noodle 7/10 Bibipop with brisket-10/10 Galbi with soup combo- 9.5/10 Rice cake soup- 8/10 Grilling set combo 1-10/10

Yelp
Forgot to take pictures... but this place is a really solid KBBQ spot! I wasn't sure about the prices at first, since the combos seemed expensive. However, the meat quality, especially of the beef is really really good. We were a group of 9, so we ordered 2 Large 5 combos and it was definitely more than enough food. The menu says that combo only feeds 3-4 people but I think it definitely can feed 5 people. The beef was the star of the show, the meat was really fresh and the marinated beef was really good as well. I think the pork was alright, not the best I've had. Their banchan is also good quality and they refill it whenever you ask. One complaint I have is that this place gets really stuffy and hot, so I would hope they add more ventilation. You also walk out of there smelling really strongly of the KBBQ because of the lack of ventilation. However, overall had a really good experience and the food was top notch!

Yelp
I love intestine and this hits the spot. The small intestine is so good, but the large intestine is kinda gritty and I don't order it. The pork belly and brisket are good as well. It's well priced and the servers are nice too.

Yelp
The service at SongHak is always great! The team always helps with cooking the meats. The Prime Combo. 2 is usually what I choose, I like the combination of Brisket, Pork Belly, and Bulgogi. It's the perfect amount for 2-3 ppl and comes with corned cheese and steamed egg (my fave sides). They have a lot that's shared with other businesses. There's also street parking available as well.

Yelp
Songhak BBQ (B- or 3.5 star) : KBBQ restaurant (non-AYCE) with very fresh meats and a broader selection of food choices than most KBBQ restaurants, but flavors seemed tame and won't be added to my "revisit" list. For my daughter's Christmas break back home, she requested two meal types: hotpot, and Korean BBQ. And today, we checked off the second box. I'm not super familiar with Korean food, but based on previous experience, places that don't offer AYCE typically give higher quality meat. Given I'm not looking to gorge myself with meat, I specifically looked for restaurants that offer a la carte BBQ and serve other dishes as well. I ended up selecting Songhak as it was one of the highest rated non-AYCE spots, and the online wait list that put me in line before driving cemented the decision. I was lucky today, finding a parking spot was relatively easy. The restaurant itself is pretty standard, nothing fancy. Floors were slippery so you know it's authentically Asian. Service was rather spotty. I rarely expect great service in Asian restaurants, but forgetting basic items like eating and cooking utensils multiple times, and having to ask for warm water three times before we got it was even weaker than my realistic expectations. But that's okay, been to much worse in Asia - at least no fingers in our waters Dolsot Bibimbop with spicy pork (B- ) : Bowl was nicely super hot, giving the rice some char, and vegetables and pork were plentiful, but felt weak on all the key flavors, lacking heat, savoriness & sweetness. And the pork didn't have any char on it. All the ingredients tasted fresh, and adding a touch of the sweet soy definitely helped, but as my favorite Korean dish, it didn't meet up to my expectations. Soontofu with beef brisket (C+ ) : Heat and nothing else - kind of strange. I'm used to a more acidic flavor mixed with the heat, a little along the lines of a tomyum soup, but not this time. The bowl looked scrumptious and all the ingredients tasted fresh, but why so bland? Prime combo 1: Beef brisket, wagyu beef belly, pork jowl (B ) : Definitely the highlight of the meal. Everything tasted very fresh. The pork jowl was scrumptious, super juicy and nicely complemented with a little salt & sweet soy. The beauty of fatty beef, you can cook it to your heart's content with lots of crunchy char, yet still tastes rich and juicy, and you know your arteries are clogging up but hey, you only live once. Songhak is the 5th Korean restaurant I've visited in SD over 2.5 years - the others being Woomiok, K-Cuisine, Olleh BBQ, and Kangnam BBQ - but since I rarely crave Korean food, I think I'll wait for my travels to Canada or Asia before tackling Korean restaurants again. That is, unless one of my two bosses mandates we go again while in SD. ------------------------------------------- Food Grading Scale: A+: Life changing. You remember these bites for the rest of your life. Occurs very infrequently and when it does, you'll know it. You don't even know how to further improve it with a magic wand. A: Wow! Excellent. You felt happy biting into it. You're considering whether it's life changing, but know it misses the mark. A-: Very very good. Whatever it is, it's one of the best, but you can think of further improvements. B+: Very good. Very enjoyable, not to the point of "impressive," but worth revisiting. B: Good. A solid example of whatever it is, offering enjoyment, but not enough for making an effort to get. B-: Not bad. If in a pinch to eat something, this offers some enjoyment and is a reasonable option. C+: Mediocre plus. Pretty average, but with one or two positive characteristics you can identify. C: Mediocre. "Meh". Very average. Not bad enough to make you angry, but nothing good about it at all. C-: Bad. You recognize it for what it is, but a very bad rendition. Your foodie self is a little pissed, and feeling like a dummy you ordered it. D: Awful. Whoever cooked it should be ashamed of themself. Somehow, you still managed to swallow a bite. F: WTF is this? Inedible. One chew, you had to spit it out. Fire the chef.

Yelp
Your typical kbbq but I just thought this one was super worth. Went in around 2:30pm so no one was there for that late lunch, and the service was more one on one directed. Came with side dishes as soon as we ordered. We got the prime combo #1 with prime wagyu beef belly, prime pork belly, and pork jowl. It was a meal and it came with steamed egg, a stone soup of your choice, and corn cheese. Super fulfilling, ended up leaving the restaurant with togo wagyu because that was what she put in last. Attentive overall, filled the water, empty side dishes, changed the grill, but we were the only one there so.

Yelp
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Songhak Korean BBQ in San Diego, and the experience left me thoroughly impressed. This hidden gem offers a culinary journey into the world of Korean cuisine, with a special focus on high-quality meats like wagyu and prime cuts. The star of the show at Songhak is undoubtedly the premium selection of meats. The wagyu meats and prime cuts were nothing short of exceptional, cooked to perfection at the table's built-in grills. Each bite was a delightful explosion of flavors, and the interactive grilling experience added a fun and engaging element to the meal. Beyond the meats, Songhak Korean BBQ boasts an extensive menu that includes flavorful soups, traditional Korean side dishes, and popular Korean delicacies. I LOVED THEIR KIM CHI SOUP! I was trying hard not to focus on that but it was hard. The service at Songhak was commendable. The staff was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. They guided us through the grilling process and offered recommendations, enhancing the overall dining experience. The welcoming atmosphere and cozy interior added to the enjoyment of the meal. However, it's important to note that parking can be a bit challenging in the area. Despite this minor inconvenience, the exceptional food and service make Songhak Korean BBQ a destination worth seeking out! They have other locations throughout Socal, but it seems like each location has their own twist!

Yelp
Let's start with the fact that the parking lot this place is in is too small, but that's convoy for you. Parking on the street would probably be the best option. Next the restaurant itself! Many tables inside, so we get sat pretty quickly. The first time I was here was with 4 people and we shared the large combo, with large intestine, small intestine, and pork belly. We opted for their kimchi soup. I believe the large combo is meant to feed 3-4 people and we were stuffed. Everyone's favourite was the large intestine! It's fattier, so the longer it was on the grill, the crispier it got! Since it was quite fatty, it went well with the kimchi. The kimchi here tastes more sour/fermented, so it cuts through all of the unctuousness. The small intestine did have a slight bitterness, which was a more familiar taste of intestine. Pork belly was pretty standard, nothing too unique. The next time we stopped by with 4 people, we got the medium combo, meant for 2 people, a ribeye, and some other dishes I can't remember (lol). The medium was already enough for all of us before the rest of the food came out! We ordered the kimchi stew again and it's pretty sour. Their sides include marinated sliced onions, chives with a red pepper paste sauce, marinated bean sprouts, steamed egg, corn cheese, and some others. I did wish they had a side of salt/pepper to dip because the flavors were kind of flat. So the ribeye could've tasted better if we had something salty. Overall still would come back. I would like to try their beef tongue and get just an order of the large intestine. By the way, service is nice! The waitstaff will come around to cook your meat. Attentive :-)

Yelp
Ordered a prefix meal set for 2-3 people and added beef ribs. We had two different kind sliced beef and pork cheeks. Everything was good but I'm not a fan of the grill set up. They use the propane with a grill plate with a dripping bowl on the side. The grill plate was not tilted so some of the grease dripped back to the propane grill. Overall, food was great but I was not happy with the bad service. Waitresses walked back and forth to other tables but didn't stop by our table to ask if we need water. We waited for water refills but they didn't come. Had to tagged them a few times to get our bill also.

Yelp
I am so sorry, but this place seems like a scam if you order a la carte options lol. Only the combo seems like a better deal?? And even then, the quality of food was okay. I'm rounding up from a 2, to a 3 bc of the nice ladies and that most of the food items were good outside of the BBQ. +1 quick and friendly service +1 reservation I made 2 hours before we dined, on a Saturday night. We had 15 people. We showed up on time and was able to be seated. We had every 5 order for themselves to make the checks easier to split at the end. Our table decided to do the BBQ, so we sat at a table with a grill. We ended up ordering: 1) 2 full orders of boneless marinated short ribs ($55/order): this was the biggest issue we had. It only came with 4 strips of meat, and the meat quality was extremely bad. We asked if this was 1 order, and they said each order had 350g. NOT WORTH! Quality was really bad. 2) Dolsot (I think it had brisket in it?): this was yummy! 3) 1 order of beef brisket: fine. nothing wrong 4) A spicy noodle soup with pork in it: this was yummy! and cheap! I would just get this next time. Honestly I think this place is better for individual dishes, and for BBQ you may need to do the combo to make it worth.

Yelp
Quality meats here! Food is delicious . Service is on point. I highly recommend getting the marbled boneless short rib. It was super tender & juicy. Definitely coming back for more.

Yelp
I've been here a few times now and it's definitely my favorite Korean spot in San Diego. They have really good jjampong but this place only does it with brisket or pork instead of the regular seafood. Their jjajangmyeon is definitely the best I have had in San Diego so far. I did korean barbecue here once too and they have SPICY BRISKET which is my favorite! I didn't think any place in SD had it until I came here and it was so good. It's definitely a must if you like spicy. The service is also always good and the ladies there are very nice.

Yelp
Although the restaurant may seem small, it has a lot of seating. We came on a busy Saturday night and had to wait about 15 minutes for a table which wasn't bad (probably got lucky). Our server was friendly and very attentive. I absolutely loved the intestines here. The fried rice mixed into the grill at the end was amazing. We also ordered bulgogi but it didn't stand out to me. All in all, it was a very satisfying meal. I can't wait to come back! Maybe not for bulgogi but definitely for beef intestines.

Yelp
This place is casual. Plan to be here early because parking is very bad. Walked in and we were seated right away. They just opened. Ordered the prime combo. They lacked the bon chon. That was disappointing. The combo came with cheese corn. That was okay. Tofu soup was very bland. The meat was okay. They used butane to cook our meat instead of charcoal. They packed the meat on the burner. Meat was not evenly cooked. The pork was raw still and they lowered the heat. This is a one-and-done. Im still on a search for KBBQs that can beat Dae Jung Keum.

Yelp
We got the prime meat here at Songhak it was so delicious! We ordered the pork belly, brisket and bulgogi. The waitress helped us cook the meat, and was very attentive. It got pretty crowded as the night went on. I took my son and this was his first kbbq experience. He loved it!!

Yelp
Can you name a more ideal way to spend a Valentines Day than dripping in meat juices and smoky goodness in a cute KBBQ joint? Sweet vibes from the soft music, quick service, and clean tables, SongHak felt very cozy compared to other KBBQ places I've been to. The service was great, they even helped cook the meats and flip if you look unsure of how done the cuts were (or too busy grilling that you weren't eating). The banchan are all good and tasted fresh with good variety, and the Prime combo #3 we shared between two was the perfect amount of food! It left us stuffed and satisfied, so come hungry. I would say that there was a lil waitlist forming in early dinnertime but coming by around 4:30pm was ideal since barely anyone was eating on a Wednesday afternoon. There are limited grill tables available and that's what's holding people up, but if you arrive earlier, you secure a parking spot and you can get the goods grilled up in no time. Yes, the prices were hefty but the quality and service were absolutely worth it. I'm excited to try other combos and a la carte items next time I'm in the area!

Yelp
Songhak is my go to when I have friends or family visiting. Convoy is notorious for having the best places to eat, Songhak is a definite MUST! Parking her is shitty. But it Convoy there is never enough parking in these plazas. The lot Is super small and shares with 3-4 other businesses. The food here is always on point, the marinate is delicious! You can taste the quality. The service is always pretty fast and super attentive. Usually we always get grandma waiting on us and she is always super fast. I usually always order Cambo 3 which comes with four meats, steamed egg, corn cheese and soup ( soybean or kimchi) and of course a much of sides. If you love intestines you will love it ! We usually always order intestines pre-cooked and when brought to our table we crisp it . The best part Is, you can request the meats to be stir fried into fried rice! This is a great place to meet family and friends. prices aren't too bad, super affordable for group settings. Their Wagu beef is also a must try if you visit . Give them a try if you're in the area.
