"In an area filled with neighborhood staples, Song Long stands as perhaps its most iconic. This family-run restaurant is one of the oldest in Little Saigon (it opened in 1981 as a French bakery) and is now a place where families and large groups of friends gather daily to eat both Vietnamese and French specialties. Everyone is eating the cha ca thang long, a dill-and-turmeric infused catfish dish that’s one of our favorites in all of Little Saigon, but don’t ignore the bo kho stew, cooked with cinnamon, or the escargot appetizer, which we’d put against any version in town." - Brant Cox

"Song Long’s cha ca Thang Long takes turmeric and ginger marinated catfish fillets and serves them on sizzling plates that emit a fragrant steam of dill and onion. Served with an extra funky mam nem, or fermented anchovy sauce, along with herbs and vermicelli noodles, the dish balances earthy, savory, sweet and tangy flavors. Other standouts include the escargot and Vietnamese steak frites served with herb butter." - Euno Lee

Google
Family owned spot serving up authentic eats. We dined in and enjoyed it. Their pho bowl was great, and the vermicelli bowls were very tasty. Their grilled pork and their lemon grass beef were tasty, but two of the best things we had were the spring rolls, super thin wrappers for great crunch, and their thai tea, just very refreshing and didn't taste like the packet mixes. Overall, great food, inexpensive, good service.

Very good food with friendly service. The sushi rolls were really tasty, steamed shrimp dumplings and potstickers were some of the best I've ever had and seasoned perfectly. Saki was hot and delicious! Overall great experience.

Always delicious and excellent services. We ordered breakfast and " bún suông" and egg rolls. The price is affordable. Forget to mention, fresh bread baked and butter, cafe phin, and classic French music. Please keep it up that way, Song Long.

This place has great fish sizzling platter with vermicelli. The purple sauce you will need an acquired taste. You can always opt for light fish sauce. The fresh orange juice is delicious and refreshing. They give you warm baguette and butter before the main dish arrives. Great fast service. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Google
We went there around 3pm on Sunday. Got this vermicelli with pork and this rice combo dish. The food was tasty! They were flavorful and distinctive. The service was good and we liked the family-owned-business vibe. However, we couldn’t stop wishing it was cleaner... the floor was noticeably messy and pretty much everything on and around the table was sticky... the sauce bottles and the wall had sticky sauce residues all over. If you’re sensitive to MSG, might need to think twice. I’m mildly sensitive to MSG and felt drowsy right after eating. If all you care about is the authentic delish food experience, I’d recommend this place! :)

Song Long Restaurant in Westminster is a casual culinary haven that artfully combines Traditional Vietnamese dishes with a touch of French influence. The marriage of these two culinary traditions creates a dining experience that is not only delicious but also reflects the historical intertwining of Vietnamese and French cultures. The roots of French influence in Vietnamese cuisine can be traced back to the colonial period when Vietnam was part of French Indochina from the mid-19th century to mid-20th century. During this time, the French left an indelible mark on Vietnamese culture, and nowhere is this more evident than in the realm of food. French culinary techniques, ingredients, and flavors were introduced to Vietnam, blending seamlessly with the country's rich culinary heritage. The fusion of these two traditions resulted in a unique and flavorful tapestry that characterizes Vietnamese cuisine today. Baguettes, pate, and a variety of pastries are just a few examples of French elements that found their way into Vietnamese kitchens. The star of the show at Song Long is undeniably the Sizzling Fish with Dill (Cha Ca Thanh Long) . This Northern Vietnamese dish is a culinary masterpiece that tantalizes the taste buds with a perfect blend of spices and textures. The fish, marinated with turmeric and a healthy heap of dill arrives sizzling at your table, creating a sensory spectacle. The crispy exterior gives way to succulent, flaky fish that absorbs the aromatic turmeric and dill infusion. It's a symphony of flavors that captures the essence of Northern Vietnamese cuisine. Upon entering Song Long, guests are greeted not only with the inviting aromas of the kitchen but also with a thoughtful offering of bread and butter for the table. Normally you are not greeted with bread and butter at your table at many Vietnamese restaurants so this gives a hint to its French influence. This small gesture sets the tone for the warm and attentive service that defines the dining experience at Song Long. The bread, soft and freshly baked, paired with creamy butter, provides a delightful prelude to the culinary journey that awaits. The restaurant itself is unassuming and very casual but has been an institution in the Little Saigon scene for a long time. As we look around, we see that most of the patrons there are older and you can tell they have been coming to this restaurant for a long time. The casual setting of Song Long adds to the charm, making it an inviting space where diners can enjoy a laid-back dining experience. The staff and owner, knowledgeable about the history behind the menu, adds a personal touch to the journey through the flavors of Vietnam and France and take pride in getting to know their patrons. As you peruse the menu, the array of Traditional Vietnamese dishes and French-inspired creations beckons, promising a culinary adventure. The diverse offerings showcase the restaurant's commitment to preserving Northern Vietnamese flavors while infusing a touch of innovation. Whether you choose to explore other regional specialties or indulge in the Sizzling Fish, every option on the menu reflects the culinary prowess of Song Long. In conclusion, Song Long Restaurant stands out not only for its renowned Sizzling Fish but also for the thoughtful hospitality that accompanies every visit. From the warm welcome with bread and butter to the symphony of flavors on the plate, Song Long captures the essence of Northern Vietnamese cuisine with a touch of flair. It's more than a meal; it's a celebration of flavors, culture, and genuine hospitality that leaves a lasting impression. Dining at Song Long is not just about satisfying your appetite; it's about savoring moments of culinary delight and creating memories that linger. They are opened daily, but only until 3pm, so come early to enjoy their food. We can't wait to come back for more.

Google
Great Vietnamese foods here. Their Cha ca thang long is the house dish here. The portion is enough for 2 people.

Google
Food are big portions and delicious. Ladies are very nice and helpful. However the place definitely need to be more clean.

Yelp
Song Long is now closed. It is the end of an era. Thank you for being one of the first "higher" end Vietnamese restaurants in the area. I've always had great service from the wonderful ladies of Song Long. I have had so many cherished family meals here. From the cha ca, to the red rice ga rot, and their cheap French steaks. You will be missed and have a forever place in our heart. What a great run, what a run.

Natasha S.

Yelp
If you like dill, I recomment the sizzling fish with dill (cha ca thang long). It comes with the yummiest pungent sauce, truly the perfect combo with the caramelized dill and onions, veggies, noodles, lettuce. Wrap it to your heart's content! I don't really try anything else when I come here. We had the bo luc lac, which was okay. No frills restaurant, order and eat. The limited hours make it hard for me to make it out. At least there's some parking!

JoJo N.

Yelp
Needed to find some lunch after ao dai shopping, so we walked around until we fell upon this restaurant. There were a lot of great Vietnamese dish options, and I honestly had a hard time picking something from their extensive menu. I ended up getting the catfish rice dish. The fish was cooked perfectly and was not dry at all. The nước mắm, as usual, really pulled the dish together. My boyfriend really liked his fried tofu dish. It was such a large portion that in addition to giving me some to try, he was also able to box a good amount to eat later. Service was fast and efficient, and we were pretty happy to have stumbled upon this spot.

Yelp
I've been coming to Song Long ever since I was a baby, and my parents and grandparents have been coming since the 80s! I always get their fish salad, which comes with shrimp chips. I forgot to take a photo before I started eating, so the one I attached shows the salad partially eaten. Some of my family's other favorites are the rib-eye steak and the noodle soups. We also love the free bread! When we went today, we found out that the restaurant is shutting down on July 25. The owner, who's basically like a third grandma to me, is now 81 and ready to retire. I think it'll be replaced by a Laotian restaurant. So sad! If you've been wanting to try Song Long, this is your sign to go.

BT J.

Yelp
The menu has changed since we were here last. Some items I like such as Cha Ca Thang Long are no longer available. The Bun Cha Ha Noi is very generous in portion but I think I like other menu items better. My husband got the shaken beef with tomato fried rice and that was very good. We missed the iced coffee from the bakery days do it was a nice fix. Not as strong in flavoring as before but still solid. The service was good but we wished the outside eating area could be block off from the parking lot. They have an opportunity to make it nicer.

Hung T.

Yelp
Update the new menu and prices on 08/2022. I am recommends for French Entrees menu. The best I had try is Filet Mignon Steak.

Margaret C.

Yelp
I ordered Pho. The waitress dumped boiling pho in my lap, burning my leg. The waitress didn't apologize or help at all after burning me. Another customer went and got me a some cold water, and someone told the staff to get me some ice. The restaurant still charged me for the Pho that they dumped in my lap.

Yelp
I'm writing this review because of the suspicious reviews written by this place. A few review talks about the food their mom purchase. Another review in Vietnamese complains that the food is one day old, and the owner basically forced this person to tip. These reviews are also written by folks who have less than a few reviews written. If you grew up on Orange County you would know Song Long has been an institution in the community. The restaurant has been around as long as I've been alive. This place specializes in breakfast food and French-Vietnamese cuisine. My family and I still go here a couple of times a year. The owner is still the same. It's used to be a husband and wife team but now it's just her. She treats everyone kindly and has always been courteous even to older folks who may struggle to even order because they now have some type of mental disability. She is extremely patient with them. There are def some items that are pretty solid and has been that way for some time. Some of them are cha ca Thanh long, bo kho, and some of the French entrees. You will find that most of the patrons here are a bit older and some knows the owners personally. Some of the more recent reviews are suspicious. Seems like some type of smear campaign. It is the exact opposite of my experience, especially having been eating here about 30 years. If you want to support a local business run by an owner with integrity and treats all that with courtesy and kindness, you should give this restaurant a try.

Yelp
When someone mentions the phrase "phenomenal food", I immediately think of Song Long's Rib-Eye Steak. Specializing in both Vietnamese and French-inspired dishes, Song Long is very detail-oriented, which is evident through appealing food presentations and lasting flavors. There are many phenomenal dishes here at Song Long, but the most notable is the Rib-Eye steak, priced at $18.95 + tax. The term "medium-rare" is beautifully realistic and the steak is cooked so carefully that it maintains its juiciness. When ordering takeout, make sure to heat up the special sauce in the small cup pictured below; it is the perfect combination when you have tender, flavorful steak with an irresistible topping. Give the steak a try!

Yelp
I'm a sucker for Ca ri Chicken aka Chicken Curry. Their portion here is large and it's good. They serve it with rice and bread and its yummy. I need to come back for their Cha Ca Trang and their other delicious looking foods!

Michelle P.

Yelp
Updated from 5 to 4 stars: after discovering Canton their cha ca dish is better than Song Long. Less greasy, lighter and more flavor. ---

Yelp
This place is an iconic fixture of Little Sai Gon. One of the OG. And even some of the servers have been at this place since the beginning of over 30 yrs ago. Its offering of quaint indochine french cuisines and the unique dish of bún suông, makes it the gem that it is. Sure the place needs a facelift, but the food quality remained just as delectable since the day it was open. With all the trends toward making everything fusion, this is the OG of fusion food marrying the french and viet cuisines in perfect harmony. I'm glad to see it is still thriving after all these years.

Yelp
I suppose chả cá Thăng Long can be sold anywhere else that offering Vietnamese food in OC, cause you know, competition :) Plus I never tried this dish before, because when you say chả cá, in my mind it would be fish cake which you will buy fish fillet then minced or ground them til it turn into a patty, then you will fry it. Well that wasn't what I expected here, I was born in South Vietnam, and rarely tried any Northern dishes, so the fishes were cooked on a sizzling plate with peanut, dills, onions, and they weren't minced, they were just cubes, lightly cooked on both sides, then you got a plate of bún, bánh đa and rau sống plus mắm nêm to eat with. The fishes were a bit over seasoned, but if you mixed them with other stuffs, it should be fine, I am glad I didn't skip any of them and went for the fish alone, otherwise I will have to drink a lot of water to make up for that I did ask the waiter twice are you sure this is fish cake, she said yes. Lol I felt like an idiot after I realized this was Northern style fish cake, also when I ordered the dish by myself, the people there seemed surprised, because they say one person could not finish it. Well they were wrong, it was enough to fill me up. Also got an iced coffee, and still have room for more, but I got it down ok. After that day, I learned more about Northern cooking, it was different, I still prefer my Southern style food, but I don't mind trying it once in a while.

Yelp
My mother went here to eat and tried the Bo Luc Lac, WonTon Soup and Egg rolls - The bill came up to $77.45 which makes no sense at all - adding them together from the menu is $50 max if you count the side orders that she didn't even order but came out nonetheless (banh mi and red rice). They write out your order by hand without price and charge you with no real receipt - only the total charge amount is visible. My mother used EBT card - thats money credit from the government for the poorer people and they take advantage of that thinking they can cheat elderly poor people like this - this is disgusting! And the food is not any different than their behavior - the wontons were still raw in the inside and the beef from the bo luc lac dry. This is totally unacceptable - don't let your elderly with food stamp/EBT eat there - they rip you off!

Nguyen T.

Yelp
Our orders took more than 30 minutes to be ready when people who ordered after us had their meals come out before us. I don't understand how they think it's justified to charge $19 for some microwaved steak. It was lukewarm when it came out and very bland. My sister, who ordered it, didn't even finish it. They put way too much fries for something that we paid $19 for. A total rip off. I got an omelet ($9) and it was both watery and lacked seasoning. The shrimp tasted weird and the texture of the eggs were more scrambled than omelet. The food was very lackluster and no one finished eating what they ordered. I expected a lot more when I came here after reading the reviews but was thoroughly let down.

Char L.

Yelp
Asked for orange no ice no sugar. Owner came out and yelled at us. Then takes it in front of us and poured into another cup. Their bun rieu is plain. Cha ca thanh long is so so. Very run down restaurant. I wouldn't be surprised they recycled our used food. I put junk in this glass but didn't drink because I don't want them reusing it and serve someone else.

Teresa P.

Yelp
Their cha ca thang long is delicious. The owner is really sweet and you can tell she really cares about her customers.

Yelp
The first time I came to song long was with my boyfriend's family for dinner. I had never been but it was one of his parents' favorite places to go. Location: This place is hidden in the back of a hidden plaza on bolsa in little Saigon. I've passed it so many times but I've never seen it until I went with them. And this place can get kinda crowded during dinner time. Food: I've tried like 4 things here and they were all very good! - Beef tongue ragout: Y U M M Y!! The beef tongue in this dish is cut really big but it is SOOO tender! You can order it with fries or spaghetti I think. I typically get spaghetti and it also comes with marinara sauce. Yummy. Also comes with mashed potatoes and veggies. It's so good! - Filet de sole au gratin: I ordered this to try it once and thought it was pretty good. It's fish baked in like a creamy/cheesy sauce. And it comes with veggies. I don't know if I would recommend it because I don't really remember what it tasted like exactly but it definitely wasn't bad. - Tht nng la lot: My boyfriend ordered this but I got to try it and it was pretty good. I don't remember the exact taste of it though. - Grilled fish: This place makes really yummy grilled fish. It's such a good portion size too. Can definitely share between 2-3 people and get full off it. Comes with vermicelli, some veggies, and some Vietnamese fermented shrimp sauce. Super dank tasting lolol All in all, song long is pretty good and definitely a bit with Asian parents lolol

Tracy Y.

Yelp
Saw this restaurant featured on Lisa Ling's TV show. Made our way here and we were not disappointed. Their catfish was delicious and we will definitely be going back. This restaurant has made it onto our repeat list.

Thuy H.

Yelp
The gỏi và suông was their best dish here. Today, I ordered it and was very disappointed, the suong were all flour NOT using any shrimps. By cutting corner, they ruined this dish.

Tony T.

Yelp
Bún bò Huế is above average. Beef tongue in wine sauce is mediocre: bland taste and you could not smell the wine.

Chris H.

Yelp
Just get the bun cha Hanoi and cha ca thang long!! The best I've had in the US! Always love coming back here for these items

Anh D.

Yelp
We went back here because our Grandpa wanted to go here. This place really needs a major facelift. The place is so outdated from the staff, service, kitchen and entire dining area. The staff are from as old as our Grandpa then to our mom. They don't smile or greet us or anything. You seat yourself and then you get their attention to order. Then they start noticing you re there. They serve us bread and butter and extra plates right away but it was literally thrown on to our table. Our bread came half burnt on one side and obviously over heated in the stove that was right before us. Their setup was an supposedly old fashioned French atmosphere. Our grandpa had bun Bo hue (was ok) husband got hu tieu (nó good) and I got fried eggs with bread. The look like owner ( walked very slow like most elderly) rushed one of the workers and the worker responded very sarcastically rude and cursed loudly. With that kind of attitude I don't expect the food and service would be that great. The owner was nice though two stars for her. Surely we won't be coming bạck.

Dalena N.

Yelp
My mom ordered 3 to-go fish noodle soup and when we got home we opened it excited to eat lunch. As soon as I took 1 bite I saw a cockroach floating around with its antenna and everything. Might have a fear of restaurants now. My mom called them and their excuse was that they just hired new workers so they don't know how to check things thoroughly. No thank you! They offered to replace our meals but I don't think I will ever be coming back.

John L.

Yelp
I have eaten at this restaurant since I was a child. I used to come down to GG to dine here with my parents at least once a month. Since that time, I always had the urge to at least stop by once when I am back in SoCal. For the most part, the menu has not significantly changed. The food is decent and the service, depending on the size of the crowd, is alright. When its more busy, things tend to be hectic, and the "hangriness" of the crowd is definitely palpable. Overall, they have pretty good food. The hot bread basket with butter and soy sauce is a favorite. The cold meat plate with pate, mayo, and pickles is also a nice appetizer. The fried chicken wings are delicious. And their banh canh suong is pretty good as well. Overall, I'd say if one has eaten here for most of their life, its a homey feeling with pretty good food. For new comers, I would avoid coming during a busy time.

Brian N.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I literally drive a whole hour from West LA just to eat here on the weekends. We always get the banh mi Bo kho and I am never ever disappointed. I've been ever since I was a kid and even when I'm 24 now, I will still always go here. Love it and the staff is always so nice.

Liz P.

Yelp
Came in during lunch. Lots of people were eating there. Greeted us right away. Fast and friendly service. Ordered thit nuong la lot and bun cha ca. Food was flavorful and delicious! Things got quite interesting when a lady came in and was loud and somewhat obnoxious. Based on her behavior and how she spoke, you can tell she has some mental issues. Her husband had walked in two different times to try to get her out, but said he had enough of her and walked out. The lady owner was so sweet. She apologized and asked if we were ok as that loud lady decided to sit next to our table and refused to sit anywhere else. Anyways, food was great and staff was fast and friendly. I will be back.

Guy F.

Yelp
We come here every so often since Song Long has such a nice, varied menu items. We usually have the beef noodle soup or stew, laksa, or bun. This time we tried their grilled catfish with dill- was so tasty and nice portion; was not cheap but we enjoyed it. The service is helpful and friendly. The bread and butter is a nice touch. The condition of the restaurant is becoming run down inside with tables and chairs showing age and accumulated wear; walls and curtains could use a good cleaning. I wish the owners could spend a bit to update and thoroughly clean the interior. I like this restaurant and I think more people would come more often.

Khoa V.

Yelp
This place was one of my to go place on the weekend but thanks to the owner, now my family and I decide to save money for elsewhere. The snails are the worst, the taste is awful and the quality of the snails is bad. We are questioning the owner about snails and she said that what it must be like and it not her fault if the quality of snails are bad.

Michelle M.

Yelp
They don't give an itemized receipt. Check your receipt as they would often overcharge. Check prices before you order and keep track of what you order. If you order food to-go, check it before you leave as they often get things wrong. The food taste gross. I don't even know why they even have customers. One of their staff handed me my to-go order. I left with it, opened it and brought it back as they gave me the wrong order. After the staff handed the correct order to me, she just re-bagged the order I brought back for the next customer to pick up and she was looking over her should as she was doing this. Good thing I didn't touch, eat, or contaminate the food she re-bagged. Once I got home, I couldn't finish the food bought thereabd threw out the rest. Instead, I had to eat my cereal to stay full for dinner.

Kathy T.

Yelp
The same waitress, one who's seen me grow from my toddler stage to 23 years old, sets the plate of food onto our table and greets us with same warm smile she always has. This place has a special place in my heart, having grown up eating their beef plates, catfish, curry... Even with all the new trendy places popping up around Westminster/GG, Song Long remains crowded during lunch and dinner hours. I've never had a bad dining experience here - just out of preference, I don't enjoy their noodle soups with fish in it. (May be frozen? Doesn't taste so fresh.) Over the years, I've continually enjoyed the bun bo hue, bun cha ha noi, bun thit nuong, bun rieu, and many others. I love the cross of french-viet cuisine and the overall AMBIANCE // of the restaurant. There's a small PARKING // lot right in front of the restaurant, but it's a tiny plaza so I would suggest avoiding peak dinner times if you can.

Mon O.

Yelp
I have been coming here for 30 years. The best French Vietnamese food and there is a reason why it's always packed with real Little Saigon residents. Steak with Bernaise. Com sườn nướng bắt bưu. Xuong xa học lựu are my favorites.

Kingsley N.

Yelp
Awesome staff and super friendly. Would recommend coming here for their rice with pork!

Jimmy C.

Yelp
Excellent services good food specialty cha ca and egg rolls I recommend everyone trying for the first time and compare guarantee you will love it .

John N.

Yelp
I went to eat here again after a while- so I decided to come back again to eat lunch with my family. I am honestly disappointed because the foods and drinks aren't pleasing like it was before. It is also very uncomfortable because a male employee talked in a very loud voice.

Julie V.

Yelp
Been here a couple of times now. This place has a wide range of Vietnamese food and some dishes with a heavy French influence. They do get busy on the weekends so just be prepared to wait. Today I ordered the com Bo Luc lac (shaken beef) and Rib Eye Steak with garlic butter. The Bo Luc Lac with red rice is usually my go to dish when I go here. The beef is cooked with onions and it is served with your choice of rice. But today the beef didn't have much flavor as it used to. Maybe it was an off day? The Rib Eye comes with steamed veggies and your choice of fries or rice. The meat is always cooked to perfection and the garlic butter is so delicious. The Garlic Butter they make in house is definitely what sets them apart from other places. Also note the dishes here are pretty big so keep that in mind when ordering. The service here is okay, if you need something you need to flag them down. Overall this place is average and I come here when it's convenient for me.

Thuy P.

Yelp
This restaurant has been around for over 20 years! The lady that runs the restaurant is still the same lady I've known since I was a kid! She is always super friendly and nice. A very awesome hostess. She remembers me every time I go in. Overall, her friendliness makes the place I always go back to when I get a chance. The food there is pretty good as well. Love the bread and butter and their omelette for breakfast. This time is was having lunch so we had bo kho and suong. Food is overall good along with the excellent service as always

Julie H.

Yelp
All the foods was so delicious, and the orders come out very quickly . Especially the cha ca thang long was fresh and tasty

Kimberly N.

Yelp
My family and I, we have been fan of this restaurant for over 20 years and it's one of my favorite in Little Saigon. Tucked away in a small plaza, but, this restaurant is quite crowded during lunch or dinner time. It's famous for Sizzling catfish with dills (ch cá Thăng Long), Grilled pork with vermicelli (Bún ch Hà Ni), Combo rice noodle with chicken, shrimp, imitation crab, fish nuggets... Its steak, beef stew... is also delicious. Overall, I had tried a variety of dishes from its menu ranging from Vietnamese to French, American... They are good. Service is attentive and friendly. Would highly recommend.

Mike C.

Yelp
I used to love this place . But I will never come again. my girlfriend and I waited twenty minutes and were never asked for our order and three parties who came after us were served. my skin is very dark and all those served were very light skinned. we went to Siagon District in fountain alley for excellent food and service. the ace should be closed.

Twee T.

Yelp
Like so many reviewers here, this place has a fond, nostalgic place in my heart. My family and I have been coming here for more than 30 years and we always enjoy the food and the staff. In fact, I really miss the previous 1980s furniture and decor they used to have. Those comfy, rolling chairs were the best --- does anyone else remember them too? It's not a place you want to go to in a rush, so keep that in mind. It's a place to catch up with friends over some good, old fashioned dishes. No strange fusion stuff. My usual meal here for brunch is to share an assiette anglaise and a mushroom omelette.

Trung N.

Yelp
It's slightly pungent smelling in the restaurant because they serve mam nem without the pineapple to mitigate the stinky because it's served as a dipping sauce. So far, I like 2 things here: -cha ca thang long ($17.95): grilled fish dressed with turmeric and dill, served on a sizzling hot platter. Here, the fish fillet nuggets lay on a bed of onions which in turn add a nice flavor to the vermicelli. This dish could easily feed 3-4 people. Okay. I generally don't even like this dish but the morsels of fish here are so meaty and not overcooked. On top of that, the fish has good flavor. You got a mom loving this dish? Take her here. -com suon nuong ($7.95): grilled pork chop - note that there's a difference in size depending on which com suon you order- trust me, I know because I have ordered both. If you order the dish the suon nuong + fried rice + egg - the suon nuong portion is significantly smaller. I honestly just like the suon nuong. It has good flavor, a good char, and juicy in each bite. I would recommend ordering this dish if you're a fan of suon nuong. Things that were okay: -bun bo hue: big bowl. Okay tasting. Spicy, but lacking the bun bo flavor. Things that taste not so good and I would never order again: -bun rieu: for reals. I would never order this again. I won't provide a description, but let me tell you, it was the sweetest tasting bun rieu broth I have ever, ever had in my life and honestly, the sweetness of the broth gave me a headache. I would never, ever order this dish again. Order the cha ca thang long and the regular suon nuong. Got it? Get it? Good.

Yelp
Love authentic Vietnamese food, but don't speak a lick of vietnamese? Then Song Long is the restaurant for you! Song Long is tucked & hidden in the heart of bolsa. My family has always been ordering to-go here and the food always tastes as fresh as it would be if we were to dine in. The workers here are really friendly and they speak/understand english pretty well compared to all the other restaurants in bolsa. The inside is a bit small and outdated, but it has a cute french theme to it. Com Tam Suon Nuong - They give you 2 pieces of BIG grilled porkchops! None of that small skimpy wierdly cut up thin pork chops that you'd normally get at com tam thuan kieu etc. You get the option of fried rice or steamed rice (no extra charge for fried rice). Another big plus is that if you don't feel like ordering the whole meal (or wanna go low carb), you can order just 1 porkchop by itself w/ the salad for $3. Each additional chop is $3. The marinade is great and not too sweet/salty. Hu Tieu ca ga (chicken & fish) - This dish will always have a spot in my heart. Ever since I was a kid my dad always ordered hu tieu from here and to this day it still tastes the same. The broth is pretty clear (not oily) and tastes sooo rich and has enough sweetness to it. They also don't skimp on the chicken & fish. Highly recommend this dish Cha ca thanh long - This dish is their signature dish and they do it well. Their menu says it's bbq/grilled fish, but I think it's pan fried. I love that they add lots of dill and onions, green onions, herbs to it. When you order this to go, it's wrapped in aluminum foil to retain the heat. It smells divine when you get home and open the aluminum foil. They give you more than enough mint leaves/lettuce wrap/cilantro/etc. to eat with the fish. Your to-go order will also come w/ the chips and vermicelli noodles. Personally I don't like the sauce it comes with (nam mem) and get nuoc mam instead. The nam mem smells like no other, but I guess if you mix it w/ lime it's not too bad. They have lots of french pastries in front next to the cashier and I personally like to get the butter toast. Delicious, buttery, sugary, and crispy toasts! I have yet to try their bo kho or ga ri, but I definitely will soon :)

Yelp
Service can be slow depending on when you go. If I decide to eat-in, I just brief my party with that info in mind before we get there. When I order to go - I'll phone in my order and despite them telling me it'll be ready in 15 minutes, I'll finish my other errands and get there in 30 minutes - which is about the time my order makes it out of the kitchen. But that's why I knocked off a star. The food definitely makes up the other four stars. Since my last review, my favorites here have been the Com Bo Luc Lac (shaken filet mignon cubes with rice) - ask for "Com Do" - which is Vietnamese style fried rice - it's pretty much tomato paste rice - definitely adds a nice touch to CBLL plates - a few other places in town also offer this option if you know to ask for it. The cubes are generous in proportion to the rice you receive, and come on a bed of lettuce and veggies. The sauce is aromatic and each beef cube is juicy and flavorful. My other favorite here is the Cha Ca Thanh Long - which is sizzling fish with dill. This is a great dish to share (although if there are more than 3 - get another serving to make sure everyone has enough) - it is served with veggies, rice noodles and rice paper. If you can't handle their fermented "purple" fish sauce (which has a very intense scent) - you can ask for regular "nuoc mam" - which is a much lighter and tolerable dipping sauce. I haven't tried any of the desserts yet - never seem to have much space for it after my meal. Every visit has been great - the food quality and deliciousness is consistent - the only downers I see is service on busier days (understandable) and the parking situation. I dread going here on the weekends or on holidays as the parking lot is already small as it is - so sometimes you may have to park on Moran St. and take a short hike over. They do take credit cards - I believe minimum is $20.

Yelp
I always come to this restaurant but I will not be coming back anymore. My reason is that I saw the worker who were making drinks and she was drinking it from it. Then gave it to the customers.

Yelp
I've been coming here literally for decades. My family and I always enjoyed their food and service. Coming here brings so many good memories of my childhood and I couldn't be happier I honestly hope that this restaurant continues to make good food like this for generations after me.

Yelp
I know it's a little old school but I've been a frequent flyer here since my parents started going here over 20 years ago. Same friendly smiling staff and great food! // Parking // this parking situation is all based on timing. It's a really small plaza lot and availability varies though I wonder where all the cars come from? [[ Bun Bo Hue ]]-- spicy beef noodle soup. Every spoonful is packed with that lemongrass flavor and amped up with spices to give you that punch! Meats are always tender and soft. They're the only place that gives you a side of "mam ruoc" aka shrimp paste, every time! It's quite frankly our favorite place for this noodle. [[ Ribeye Steak ]]-- fatty steak with a slab of garlic butter on top. Actually comes out medium rare! Haha ;) it's just a nostalgic bite for me because my dad always orders this plate. But it's damn comforting and filling. Get with fries or rice. No spaghetti. We'll be back, like always!

Yelp
I've been going to Song Long for as long as I can remember - more than 20 years. I was introduced to it while in college at UCLA in the early 90's. A friend recommended it as a nice "date night" restaurant with good food, nice ambiance, and reasonable prices. Over the years it has evolved to become my family's favorite spot for everything from a regular family meal to holiday gatherings. The menu - a combo of French and Vietnamese- has stayed the same for the most part. We love the cha gio and the cha ca thang long (turmeric fish with dill) served on a hot sizzling platter. But we also love the mi vit tiem (duck noodle), the ribeye with garlic bitter sauce, the bo la lot (grilled beef wrapped in betel leaf), bun suong, bun thang, the assiette of cold cuts, and so much more. "Not a single person in my family has anything negative to say about this place!" My mom declares every time we go. Translation: my picky Vietnamese family has nothing but approval for this place. It's been open continuously, under the same ownership (the same ladies are there every time I go), since 1985, which means it's not just my family. Generations of Vietnamese love this place!
