Super friendly staff! Went in and was greeted immediately even though they were busy. Wasn’t rushed one bit, was given descriptions of their Italian Ice and their mix. Given various samples. Honestly the experience was amazing. That being said their Ice Cream is one of the best I’ve ever had in my life. Got myself the smores in a waffle cone. The hints of graham cracker in the ice cream really made it.

Me and some friends were craving a sweet treat but one of us has celiac and another is Vegan. Luckily we found this place online and called about gluten free options and they were knowledgeable and answered all our concerns about cross contamination. When we came in the owner was the one that helped us and he was super friendly and was able to guide everyone to the best options with their dietary restrictions. The ice cream was so good and we all will be back! The owner was so nice and very enthusiastic about the ice cream. Thank you!

We were immediately greeted upon entering, and the older gentleman was so sweet. He's very passionate about the different ice creams / Italian ice that they make in-house, and gave us a quick run down of the different types + special flavors. We sampled a few and got the peach Italian ice and a cookie + cinnamon flavored ice cream called The Cowboy. Definitely recommend this place!

I had never been here before so I was a bit overwhelmed looking at the menu online seeing all the flavors. Figured it would be easier to view it all in the store but little did I know they don't have their ice cream easily viewable so I had to ask what was in a bunch of different flavors. It definitely doesn't help my anxiety as my thoughts go to, "the more questions I ask the more annoyed that employee must be." I felt bad asking aout the ice creams they did have, so I decided to go with a shake of their 2-award winning flavors. I sampled the chocolate one so I was excited to have it mixed with the vanilla. Maybe I shouldn't have sampled the chocolate because that ended up being the only flavor I tasted in, what I guess, was considered a shake. The shake was more like a cup of chocolate milk. There was 0 thickness to it, and I ended up finishing it far far quicker than was hoping for. Would I return? Probably not. I don't mind supporting smaller businesses but at the same time I expect to get what I pay for. This was simply not that experience.

This is the best ice cream I’ve ever had in my life since I was born!! My uncle owns an award-winning dairy farm in WI and Sonny’s is still better. During my pregnancy we went nearly every Sunday so I have tried almost every flavor of his ice creams, Italian ices, and crème ices (which is somewhere in between.) The vanilla has literally won awards! They toast the marshmallow in front of you for the campfire sundae! With “The Fault Line” you’re able to get both Italian ice & ice cream in one (like an elevated Rita’s!) They also have seasonal flavors - we just tried “trick-or-treat” last night:). Finally- the owner, Matt, is what makes this place feel really special- definitely gives the place a “hometown” feel you don’t get at Salt & Straw or Afters.

Second visit TO DIE FOR HANDMADE delectable Ice Cream Creme Ice and Italian Ices! The owner Matt is the nicest guy in the whole world. A New Yorker from the Bronx the ambience of the establishment is NY pride. The flavors are amazing and just visiting with Matt is a treat! YOU HAVE TO CHECK SONNY'S OUT! I highly recommend.

One of the best ice cream i had. I can really taste the richness of the ice cream and it was really soft. Had it on a rainy day and it was so good. Staff were friendly and courteous too.

YUMMY! We have missed out on Italian Ice since Rita's left the area, and we were so happy to find this little neighborhood gem! They have an incredible menu; sundae, shakes, scoops & even an affogato! You really can't go wrong with anything you choose. The Italian ice and ice cream were genuinely incredible, the perfect textures and balance of flavors. They make every batch from scratch & the menu does change, but you can't go wrong with anything you choose! I had mango & coconut Italian ice, with vanilla bean ice cream & my hubby had the warm brownie sundae! Both we so yummy, good to the last drop! The portions are generous as well, I almost wished I could have had one scoop of ice cream & one scoop of Italian ice; though I did eat it all! Oh, and they are pup friendly!! We will DEFINITELY be back!

Had to go back again when passing through and like the first time had the apple pie ice cream. Beyond amazing. My gorgeous companion tried the mango Italian ice and loved it. I'm such an Italian ice guy I'll need to give it a try next time. Every choice here is great and Sonny is very friendly and passionate about his craft which is so nice to see.

I get the hype! Came here after a nice dinner down the street needing something to satisfy our sweet teeths. Tucked away in the corner of a busy plaza, you would think that this unassuming place would just another ice cream spot. But alas Sonny's is the real deal. Ice Cream - 5/5 For the price, probably one of the better ice cream's I've had. There are three overall types of desserts presented from least dairy to of course super-duper-creamy-there's-probably-a-cow-somewhere-here: Italian Ice, Cream ice and Ice cream. Now as your typical lactose intolerant Azn, anything close to ice cream sends me to the bathroom. But tonight - I wanted to live dangerously. As the personable owner Matthew said "Love at First Bite", and I got myself The Cowboy. Wish I remembered everything it had, but the cookie chunks and cinnamon essence sent me to Texas. My lady got the Lemon Italian Ice which is made from scratch at this humble establishment. Essentially a frozen lemonade but with such care in its potency and flavor. Service - 5/5 Now the service truly takes the "ice cream" (like takes the cake?). On this lovely evening, Matthew and another staff held down the fort. And since we were the first customers of the night, Matthew took his time to explain the entirety of the menu. And of course interjected great dad jokes here and there. The love and care he had for his establishment and of course desserts, really shone through. We need more Matthew's in the world. TL;DR Overall - 5/5 - Location: tucked in the corner of a busy plaza - Three overall types of ice cream from no dairy to "creme de la creme" - I recommend the Cowboy Ice Cream if you want a party in your mouf; the Lemon Italian Ice was also delightful and not overpowering - Service was gr10; we need more Matthew's in the world

First time here and I literally reside across the street ! I went with a 2 scoop bowl, half coffee toffee, half salted caramel . Service was fast and parking was easy if I drove there Lol. Only downside was that they were out of several flavors, luckily none of the ones I wanted !

Max, the owner of Sonny's, gave me the complete "run down" of the menu. Hand crafted premium ice cream made in small batches in house. All sounded delicious but the Cowboy Ice cream was calling my name. Cinnamon ice cream with cowboy cookie melded wonderfully into the creaminess. The store in a small strip mall. The mall has one entrance and one exit which makes it difficult to get in and out and parking is limited, but Sonny's is worth the trouble. Enjoy the creamy goodness.

Ice cream is so fresh here! The tastes are made perfectly to maximize the flavors it has. The vanilla, the coffee, the chocolate where the 3 that we tasted and they were so tasteful and not overpowering. The service is good but they were busy when we got there so it was a bit of a wait. I would also suggest having a proper trash can on the customer side so that it only has a hole on the top so that the trash does not spill and we don't have to touch the cover. I would also suggest having napkins available for customers so we don't have to interrupt to ask for one. The ambiance is cute and works well with a local ice cream place concept. The image of the dog they have is cute for the kids also. Worth the try,

The ice cream was good but setting outside was a most unpleasant experience! The area was quite dirty and trashy suggesting months not days of dirt! Someone from another establishment came, unlocked the garbage bin and started shoveling boxes into the fowl smelling garbage bin. This plaza could use a course in Business 101...

We've been driving by Sonny's for years now, and I find myself a bit upset with all of the missed opportunities to enjoy some truly incredible ice cream and an amazingly accommodating, amicable, amiable, and admirable owner operator Matt. His ice cream is inventive and incredibly tasty, creamy, and delectable in a way that made us immediately want to return for more. Today's late afternoon indulgence included The Cowboy, Maple Nut, Balsamic Strawberry, Unicorn Dreams, Apple Pie, and Chocolate Milk & Cookies. ALL were simply incredible! Creamy and delicious with chunks of real goodness. We will definitely return again and again!

On the way home one day, I wanted to try out this small shop. When I walked in, I received a friendly greeting from a kind individual who then offered to explain a breakdown of what this place had. I agreed and listened attentively as he mentioned what was on every board. It was nice to hear about the different routes to take and options to choose from. I ultimately ordered the Peanut Butter Crunch in a waffle bowl, but his thorough explanation gave me recommendations for future visits. It was impressive that there were 51 flavors, too. The dessert was phenomenal and actually made me want more, but I resisted and held off until my next visit at this wondrous place!

I decided to try this place out by getting a milkshake. The flavor was average and the value was not there for me. Charging $11 for a small cup and not even filled to the top, is ridiculous. Listen not trying bring the place down, just did feel the value and flavor justified the cost. Plus the fact the person helping me made a comment like"inflation hits in the weirdest places". How he thought that would make me feel better was just plain stupid. He also said it would be the best I would ever have. A bit of a over-sell .

Don't take kids here! They don't like kids being kids and eating ice cream after school. We spilled one drop of ice cream on the floor and were scolded. You guy should be ashamed of yourselves. We get ice cream weekly and to treat regulars like that is embarrassing.

My boyfriend and I came here for the first time today. The employees were very welcoming to review what their menu entailed and where their ingredients were for every menu item. The location is hard of parking when crowded, although that is out of the restaurants control. The ice cream and shake were really good. A bit on the pricey side, although delicious for what it's worth. I got the campfire sundae and my boyfriend got the birthday cake shake. For the shake, the flavor isn't strong or bothersome, and the campfire sundae, they add a lot of ingredients to make it worthwhile. Have both indoor and outdoor tables so you can enjoy. Would definitely come back

It takes a guy from Brooklyn to bring the real deal to LA. The Italian ice flavors are creative and take the breadth of flavors well beyond the standard chocolate cherry and lemon.

My fries time here and they already have my 5 star vote. Super friendly staff- Matt was great, patiently walked me through their flavors and the process- you can tell when food is made with love and care. I'm also a picky eater specifically when it comes to desserts-- most have too much sugar in it with overwhelming flavors on top of sugar on top of flavors! Their ice creams however is not too sweet, it's the perfect balance of flavor and sugar. I tried the rose water, pistachio and everything coconut- and muah! All three flavors were creamy, balanced and very tasteful.

Pretty solid place. We hit the after dinner rush. We were allowed to try samples. We tried about 2 each. I ended up getting the banana macadamia but ice cream. Really tasty. Paid by credit card but there wasn't an option to tip- which I think is nice, we've all become so tip happy. Left some cash for them instead.

The fault line is insane- i highly recommend it. They also have some pretty interesting ice cream flavors. Great alternative to joe's in Anaheim

We've been coming here since Matt (the owner) opened and it's our go to spot. In some magical way, the flavors here literally taste like what they are but with the texture of ice cream. Key Lime Pie tastes like actual key like, banana nut taste like banana nut bread, etc. Other places can't compare to how bold the flavors are here in unique riffs on classic ice cream flavors, and the texture is just SO GOOD. Support this local, small business that has put their heart and soul into a consistently delicious product. Plenty of free parking in the lot, too!

My family recently visited Sonny's Handcrafted Ice Cream and Italian Ice for the first time and it was an experience we will never forget. From the moment we walked in, the owner, Matthew, warmly welcomed us and took the time to explain the three delicious options they had to offer: ice cream, Italian ice, and crème ice. I decided to try the sour cherry and lemon Italian ice, and let me tell you, it was like a taste of nostalgia from my childhood enjoying Ralph's ices in New York. The flavors were refreshing and authentic, bringing back fond memories. My daughter opted for the apple pie ice cream, while my son went for the monster ice cream, and both were equally delicious and satisfying. The quality of the ice cream and Italian ice at Sonny's is truly exceptional, and the friendly and knowledgeable staff made our experience even more enjoyable. We will definitely be returning to Sonny's for more sweet treats in the future. Thank you, Matthew and the rest of the staff, for providing such a delightful experience for my family. I wanted some ice cream and found Sonny's Handcrafted Ice Cream & Italian Ice via Yelp. The shop is located conveniently in a strip mall next to the freeway with plenty of parking. I requested for samples of the strawberry balsamic and red velvet. The owner provided great info on how they made the ice creams and the ingredients used. Both tasted rich and creamy. No complaints and no issues finishing two scoops. Great experience at this lovely neighborhood ice cream shop!

Stopped by this cute little ice cream shop in Sherman Oaks on the way back from a pumpkin patch and was pleasantly surprised with how tasty the ice cream here is! When we walked in, we were immediately greeted and helped and the staff explained the menu to us. The menu can be a little overwhelming because there are so many options and we ended up getting 2 scoops, one in a waffle bowl. We had the pumpkin pie, salted caramel and Cookie Monster flavors and it was soooo delicious! They make their ice cream from scratch including all of the flavors so the ice cream has a rich taste and is creamy. We will definitely be back!

We got Sonny's split and it was SO amazing!!!! They torched and caramelized bananas and the waffle cone was also so fresh and good as well as the ice cream itself!! Service was super friendly and welcoming. Well definitely come back to try more flavors!!

Just had the most amazing experience at Sonny's Handcrafted Ice Cream in Sherman Oaks! Their flavors are out of this world and the quality of their ingredients is unmatched. Many unique creations like lavender honey and matcha green tea. The flavors are vibrant and tasty!! The owner was super friendly and the atmosphere was so cozy and inviting. If you're in the area, do yourself a favor and treat yourself to some of their delicious ice cream!

I recently went here for a date night out and was blown away by the friendliness of everyone who worked there. Everyone was so helpful and kind. They gave us recommendations based on flavors they thought we would like and even got us to experiment with new flavors (the balsamic and strawberry). The ice cream was delicious and creamy and the customer service was out of this world! I will definitely be coming back!!! Sonny's has it right!!

I'm not the biggest fan of ice cream most of the time, but I really liked the unique flavors and the good customer interaction at Sonny's! The prices are also pretty on point for an ice cream place. The only bad experience I've had was when I tried this (hot?) chocolate drink there, which sent me running for the bathroom shortly after having it. Not the best experience, especially in public. It was really odd considering that I hadn't had an experience like that before from his store. Maybe it was a bad batch! Other than that, the guy that runs the place can be okay when he's in a good mood. The store itself is small but cute and peaceful. Would definitely recommend coming here if you're in the area!

Easily one of the best ice cream joints in LA. Parking lot is always crowded, and there is a bit of a wait inside. However, it's all worth it. I'd do it over again, and again for the Sonny Sundae. If you haven't tried it yet I 100% recommend you do. You will not be disappointed.

It's been really hot for the past few days, and I was running an errand with my mom when we decided to stop for ice cream. Even though I've lived in the area for almost three years, I haven't been to Sonny's before. Well, I'm glad we decided to pop in ! I'll definitely be a regular now. Very rich and satisfying ice cream here! And the service was great too, keep up the good work .

Love this place! Truly feels like a warm neighborhood store. I occasionally will bring my family in for ice cream dates and it's always such a treat. Sonny's was we're my so had his first ice cream and it'll always be special to us! Service- great. Sonny is very personable and great with kids. Ambiance- very fun family friendly environment. One of my favorite places to take my son. Prices - a tad higher than original expected but I guess what isn't expensive these days. Parking - this is the only downside. Come off peak or you will find yourself circling around the crowded strip mall parking lot. Would I come back? Heck yea. Love supporting local but especially when they work hard to be great at what they do.

They didn't have some of the ice creams that they said that they had on their website and when I went inside, it was very dark, and the lady that helped me at the counter didn't seem friendly and kind of talk to me like I didn't know how to use my own debit card, the worker there was friendly and did a good job on making my ice cream but the amount that it was given was unreal for the price I paid to say the least. If you're looking for good ice cream, I should just go to creamistry or going to simply twisted ice cream truck and Burbank something a little more basic but yet better quality of ice cream with great serve and great price!

We went here for the first time yesterday. The ice cream was rich and creamy. The choices were broad and flavorful. The employee who helped us was friendly, attentive, enthusiastic about the offerings, patient, and helpful. He took time to explain everything and offered to customize our order however we wanted it. We will definitely be back.

This is NOT a drill. Best ice cream in the neighborhood - without a doubt. Amazing flavors and the BEST texture you'll find. The employees are great, friendly and helpful. And the owner is super friendly and kind. Love a locally owned spot. I know there's a lot of high quality ice cream in the neighborhood but this blows them all out of the water. Run here for your next fix!

I'm a fan! Lately, I've been on a shaved ice crave despite the colder California days. We were on our way back home from a hike on New Year's, and saw this shop was en route. Thankfully they were open! The business owner here was super friendly. He took the time to explain the different types of iced treats (Italian ice being dairy free; Creme ice containing very low amounts of dairy - hybrid like of Italian ice and ice cream; and Ice cream) as well as the limited edition flavors they have. 1 scoop = 1 flavor. Any greater than 1 scoop = multiple flavors. I got the Italian ice 2 scoops (watermelon and cotton candy - same colors), and my bf got the dulce de leche 1 scoop Creme ice. I really liked both types, and flavors were A+. The creme ice was not heavy at all, had a light texture despite the creamy taste of dulce de leche. Price ranges ~$5-6. Will definitely come by again soon.
