Mexican eatery with tasty tacos, fresh salsas, and mezcal flights

"The large Sor Ynez parking lot setup is the first thing you’ll see when you walk up, and it’s a pretty lively scene—there are a bunch of people sharing lamb shanks coated in salsa verde and after-work hangouts sipping on Oaxacan Old Fashioneds. The Kensington Mexican spot also has plenty of vegetarian and vegan-friendly dishes, like root vegetable ceviche vegan mixtole, so there’s something for everyone in your friend group." - candis mclean, alison kessler

"Outdoor patio? Check. Spacious green area for kids to frolic? Check. Bite-size portions of tasty tacos and snacks (such as tostados, chips and guac, and orejas) the little ones will enjoy? Check. For those who’ve been looking for a lively spot that’s enjoyable for both adults and children alike, here it is." - Ernest Owens

"The beef in Sor Ynez’s birria is cut a bit thicker than typical, giving each taco a heftier, heartier bite. But the flavor is on point, and it’s all balanced beautifully by just enough cheese to keep its little white corn tortilla jacket shut. The Kensington restaurant is one of our favorites for a long, leisurely hang on the enormous patio with infused-tequila cocktails, but those birria bad boys will be gone in seconds." - alison kessler
"Philly is known for many things–the PPA ruining lives and passionate fans climbing greased polls, among others. But we think eating incredible fish and birria tacos at Sor Ynez should be next on the list. The breaded fluke is perfectly crispy and each bite is topped with a spicy chipotle mayo. And even though the Kensington spot is as hard to find as your TV remote (it’s hidden in a massive lot next to a warehouse), the $3 tacos are perfect for a Happy Hour or group dinner when you also want to sip on cocktails made with Mexican gin and corn-infused tequila." - alison kessler, candis mclean
