"Credit the old-fashioned water tower in plain view, but Gilbert’s first rooftop restaurant and bar, which sits on the top floor of Building 313 and overlooks the city’s downtown, has an irresistibly relaxed vibe. It’s a great place to come for Mexican spirits (Sotol being one of them), affordable happy hour eats, and an appealing Southwestern menu that runs to shrimp ceviche, house-made frybread, loaded pastor yucca fries, and sotol churros." - Nikki Buchanan

Got the desert daiquiri (rum and prickly pear) and their version of a vodka mule ! Very good! We also got the deep fried bacon wrapped jalapenos and the yucca fries and fried cactus paddles with cilantro sauce! I liked the interesting food choices that let me expand my food knowledge! Bartender was very friendly and knowledgeable! He had some great suggestions for food and drinks.

Liked the churros was craving cinnamon, I passed by every store and found nothing worth eating except here. Helped me come up with Chickpea Curry afterward. I liked the white chocolate with raspberry sauce of the side of the churros. The view was gorgeous. The water was cool.

Went for a Galentines dinner. Pros: food was good, server was sweet and did a lot to try to accommodate, held a space heater for our reservation, view from outside, atmosphere of the people who go. Neutral: besides our server who was a young high school girl, staff didn’t seem super enthused to be working there. Burnout is real but if you don’t like to work there then I probably won’t like to come. Negative: sticklers on reservation policies and added gratuities. I understand the venue is small but to get reminded 9 times about how they won’t split the check if there are over 7 people, or how they added a gratuity already, etc. it was a lot. We were scared to get some random charge on the reservation credit card and even offered to squeeze us all in and give up a table. I could be wrong but I saw no elevator so not sure if it’s wheelchair accessible. Two flights of stairs.

My office held our Christmas party here - rented the entire place out, in fact. It's such a cute and cozy place in there. The capacity is 85 and there were 75 of us at the party, so it was almost a full house. But it was the perfect setting for a little office party. Everyone agreed that the service was 11/10! There were plenty of waiters and bartenders who made their rounds many times throughout the night. They consistently kept us updated on when the food was coming out and to never hesitate if we had any questions or concerns. There was a drink menu with several cocktails, and there was a "smashed margarita" on the menu. I ordered that because you can't go wrong with a marg, and fortunately, the bartender asked me if I liked spice because the margarita was spicy. Thank god she mentioned that because I told her to hold the spice. I then used my other two drink tickets for two other cocktails on the menu - both were very delicious. There was also some food prepared, and even though I didn't try anything, everyone else said it was good. The spread certainly looked tasty. The atmosphere, drinks, and service here were truly a vibe - such a great place to hold a party.

Sotol is a cool spot. Being on the rooftop of the third floor, you get a nice view of downtown Gilbert. The food is really good! If you struggle with huge menus, the list is fairly limited, but all solid options. My wife and I went and she got the chicken tinga quesadilla and I got a the burger which had goat cheese, arugula and sun-dried tomatoes. The mixed drinks were solid. We got the copper state mule and so-chata that were both very tasty. If you want to get dessert, definitely get the churros. A perfect place for a date night or night out with friends.

The only rooftop bar you’ll want to go to in the east valley. The menu is unique and they had new offerings when we went. We had the nopales app and the esquite and chips app. They were both good. The nopales are unique because they are a little tangy. Basically healthy French fries! Hah For an entree we had the fry bread which comes in a vegetarian or chicken Tonga option. We had chicken Tonga and it tasted just like a super unique one of a kind pizza. Service was good. We talked with the chef about his new menu. Bartender was bubbly and nice. Could have been more attentive but her personality made up for it. You should go here. On a Tuesday we arrived 30 minutes before sunset and got the best sunset viewing spots!

Google
We missed the sunset but it would’ve been awesome from the rooftop. It does say spirits and cocktails, they did have a Lotta fun looking cocktails and spirits but I sometimes like to drink red wine actually that is my drink of choice. They did have (one) Cabernet served to COLD, not chilled, and that tiny little bottle, was 25 so it would’ve cost us 50 for a full size bottle and that’s what I ended up having, two of the smaller bottles. Really wasn’t worth 50 but I shared. Great location, great view, but it would’ve been nice if they would’ve stocked up on some more food because they seem to be out of a lot of choices. All in all we had a great time.

Met some friends there in June. Amazing food and very tasty & unique drinks. Quaint but cozy. Hidden treasure.

Yelp
Christian was awesome, very helpful. Great place for a good drink or start the night.

Yelp
Great ambiance with friendly staff. I requested the salsa to better a little more spicy and the chef was very accomondating and even came out to ask how the salsa was. The salsa was delicious and flavorful with a good level of spice. I would definitely recommend stopping by if you're in the Gilbert area.

Yelp
Cool spot, intimate rooftop bar in the heart of Gilbert. The service was good, food was great. We had the jalapeño poppers to start. The Copper Star burger may be my new favorite burger. Live music on a Saturday evening which was nice, not too loud and good musical selection! We will be back, loved it!

Jordan J.

Yelp
Walked in to see a f*ckton of stairs lmao. Plot twist. My girlfriend that was meeting me told me to get us a spot on the roof... I sent her a picture of the stairs and said to her " I think all the seating is on the roof". So just forewarning you if you plan on wearing heels there, it's like 2-3 flights of stairs in total :) I walked in and was greeted by the host stand, she didn't currently have any tables for two but said I could sit at the bar because it was open seating. Asked her to put me on the list and let me know when a table became available. While I sat at the bar, I conversed with the bartender, Cayla as I waited on my friend, she is very kind and cool talk talk to. After about 10 minutes, my friend arrived, and then the host told us our table is ready I didn't like that the table was in the corner so me and my friend decided to sit at the bar. I ordered the desert daiquiri, and I'm not sure what she got but it for sure had gin. I'll attach a photo. We got the queso Fund Edo to start which was phenomenal. And then we split the El Paso tacos and the old town State Gorgonzola and they were both absolutely delicious. Thank you for the service, good drinks, great food, good vibes, awesome music selection, and a great first experience!!

Yelp
A visit to this cocktail bar was nothing short of extraordinary! The ambiance was chic and inviting, setting the perfect mood for a night out. The mixologists showcased an impressive mastery of their craft, creating cocktails that were not only visually stunning but also a symphony of flavors. The attention to detail and the use of high-quality ingredients were evident in every sip. The menu offered a diverse selection, catering to both adventurous and classic preferences. The staff was attentive and knowledgeable, providing recommendations that perfectly matched our taste preferences. Overall, a top-notch experience that exceeded expectations - this cocktail bar is a must-visit for any cocktail enthusiast!

Yelp
We decided to stop into Sotol on a girls night before a comedy show! We got their right about 5:45 so it wasn't too busy yet. We wanted a rooftop bar so that is what drew us in originally. The restaurant isn't very big but they seem to make it work. The patio seating has bar style against the railing which would be great for two people but not ideal for any large of a group. Make sure to have sunglasses or you'll be blinded for a bit while the sun goes down as it reflects off of the glass doors/windows. I had a Moscow mule which was so good. I don't like when they are too tart so I appreciated the twist they do. Very gingery with light lime. Tastes fresh, and obviously not from a bottle. The beef tacos were really good and full of flavor. But the winner for our table was the chips and salsa!! Those homemade chips were irresistible- I couldn't stop!

Tiffany K.

Yelp
My friend and I visited Gilbert for a girls night and decided to try this spot out because it was rooftop. We were immediately greater by a nice gentleman who sat us at the best table outside. I want to first compliment this restaurant by the cool temperature of their outside seating, it was about 98 degrees that day and it was still a nice temperature outside, I think with the a/c blowing from inside the breeze was very cool and we were comfortable. It's a spot you can enjoy sitting outside all summer long. My friend ordered the old fashioned which had a great presentation torching for a great Smokey smell and flavor. She ordered the quesadillas and I ordered the steak tacos which both were delicious. The gentleman who sat us also let us try the churros, which were absolutely amazing! My only two complaints about this restaurant is the bathrooms being gender neutral, because both of the toilet seats were up and would be nice if one stall was designated for women but instead the multi stall bathroom was shared for men & women and the menu was limited. I do have to say we enjoyed what we ordered off of the menu so it wouldn't prevent me from returning but I believe I would come back specifically for the drinks and amazing churros dessert!

Heather ..

Yelp
The food was incredible, I got the burger has bacon jam and goat cheese. It was cooked to perfection and prob the best burger I've ever had. We got the guac as an app only thing is I wish they had more chips. But good enough to eat with a fork, which we did. Cocktails were also amazing!

Yelp
Great rooftop craft bar and kitchen located in the heart of downtown Gilbert, AZ. Incredible drink menu and well put together appetizers. Very attentive and friendly staff. Would recommend taking in a sunset overlooking the western sky from the 3rd floor. You can only access by staircase but it's well worth it.

Jennifer R.

Yelp
Had a great time at Sotol, checking out their craft cocktails. The Call Me Colada was a standout - they lit it up right at the table. Coconut rum, pineapple, lime, cream, and cinnamon all mixed together, and it was super smooth. The So-Chata was interesting too, with scotch, vanilla, lemon, orgeat, grapefruit, and cinnamon. Kinda reminded me of apple cider, but in a good way. The view from the third floor was nice, and the breeze added to the vibe. Service was friendly and on point. Sotol's cocktails really left a mark, and I'm looking forward to going back and trying more of their creative drinks.

D R.

Yelp
Great service, beautiful place . First Timers...Did an awesome Happy Birthday/Happy Hour and wasn't disappointed.

Noah S.

Yelp
I really liked the vibes here of the rooftop. I've only been during colder parts of the year so I'm not sure how the experience is when it's hotter. The food was great and the drinks were even better. It's the perfect date night location. The wait staff were also super nice.

Naz R.

Yelp
Sotol in downtown Gilbert is a must-visit for amazing drinks and views. The energy is great and Christian was the highlight of our visit. He was accommodating and made our experience! We will definitely be visiting again and asking for Christian.

Jason P.

Yelp
Rooftop This is a cool rooftop bar that overlooks downtown Gilbert and Gilbert Ave. There is a small bar inside, but most of the seating is the outside area. If you're going here you should know that it's mainly high end drinks, and expensive ones. I would consider this to be sort of like a speakeasy type of place for drinks, but it's not really speakeasy decor. We got some old fashions and tried a couple other drinks. If you're planning on drinking beer this is really not the place to go. It's $10 a beer for maybe 12 oz.

Davina L.

Yelp
Went last night with a friend to get some drinks. Was greeted with such kindness and warmth from our server Christian. He was friendly and served us such delicious drinks. We will be back for sure!

Chase R.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I stopped by Sotol the other night for happy hour, mainly because of the roof top bar but unfortunately it was too hot to comfortably sit outside so we decided to sit in the inside portion of the bar. We had the Devils Heart and then a house tequila and pineapple. Both of our drinks were very good. We decided to have something light to eat and went with the chips and guac. The guacamole was incredible, the chips were fresh and tasty and it came with fried plantain which was amazing. It was just an appetizer and we both were full off of it. It was quite the value between the drinks and chips and dip. In addition the wait staff was absolutely wonderful, they were very attentive without being over the top. I'll definitely be back to check out more of the menu once it cools down a little so we can enjoy the rooftop bar.

Shana G.

Yelp
Ambiance and drinks were great! Beautiful rooftop in downtown Gilbert. Bartender was good at suggesting a few options. Also they have happy hour.

Melissa B.

Yelp
I love the atmosphere and the vibe of the place! The prices are reasonable and the drinks are fun and different! However, how the restaurant seats guests is odd and doesn't work well. We went last night around 6 pm and the hostess informed us that there wouldn't be a table for about 20-25 minutes. She took our name but didn't take our number to contact us when a table would be ready! How would we know that we would get a spot in the order in which we came? The process didn't make sense at all. We decided to just stick around - and within 5 minutes, two people left the bar and we went and took their spot. Had we done what the hostess suggested, we would have had to wait longer and someone could have walked up after us and sat down immediately! The idea of having a hostess makes no sense with an establishment that doesn't take reservations! Let people just figure it out -

Kate B.

Yelp
Christian was amazing and really made the experience memorable. I will definitely be recommending it to my friends.

Lauren T.

Yelp
Christian hooked us up! What beautiful views! We sat at the rooftop bar and we had the greatest night!!

Lauren I.

Yelp
Last night was my first time at Sotol. Service was slow but there was a sign on the door stating help needed. The drinks were amazing. The pina colada that a server recommended was the best I've had. Even though it was a hot day they do have some misters and shade up there. We will definitely be back. We didn't have time to try any food because we had dinner reservations.

Erica R.

Yelp
This spot is perfect for Friday or Saturday dinner and/or cocktail night. They have an indoor/ outdoor concept which was also a rooftop. It overlooks downtown Gilbert and has amazing views. It was a little busy when we went but we had no problem getting a spot outside. The drinks were really delicious. They don't use ordinary liquor only special liquors which makes this cocktail bar unique. I ordered the fry bread which was yummy but I feel like it could've had a little more flavor. Overall the vibe, drinks and food were great I especially enjoyed the cocktails and would come back for that.

Kelci S.

Yelp
Cool spot for drinks! My fiancé & I visited Sotol while checking out downtown Gilbert. The bar is in the cut & you have to travel up a few flights of stairs to get to the rooftop. Sotol has a great view of the strip. We only grabbed cocktails from this bar, but they have a pretty good menu. I tried the Devil's Heart & fiancé ordered an old fashioned. Both were good & I had them smoke my margarita. If i'm in Gilbert, I would definitely go back to try some appetizers!

Sarah K.

Yelp
Visited Sotol a few weeks back with my friend and we were greeted wonderfully by Christian at the front. After a brief conversation, he sat us really quickly (especially considering it was a Saturday night)! The atmosphere was great -- trendy music and misters to cool down the patio despite it being a 90°+ evening. The menu was a little bit limited and the food was better that average, though I wasn't wowed (my reason for 4 stars instead of 5). The service was phenomenal, and we were even treated to a complimentary desert of ice cream and churros. Overall, a great experience at Sotol and we will definitely be back!

Julie S.

Yelp
The steak with asparagus is sooo good and the views at sunset are very nice too!! They had a band Mothers Day that was very good. They quit playing at 7 so plenty of time to visit and eat in much quieter setting.

Angel M.

Yelp
Man this place is so cool, the cocktails are amazing, tap beer unique, Christian was our waiter that night and he was on top of it, great service, great drinks, chilled and mellow atmosphere, I recomend it to anyone that wants to have a good time in downtown Gilbert with out the toxicity of wh

Kelly S.

Yelp
This place is a "one and done"- meaning you'll only want to come here once. It's definitely more of a bar than a restaurant, but the drink menu is limited. They don't serve wine by the glass, they have mini bottles of mid quality wine (2 red, 2 white, no sparkling). The food is okay (chips and queso is great, burgers okay, tacos good, hummus not great). The service is lacking and not very friendly. Employees give uppity vibes, our server was quirky in all the wrong ways. She was condescending, slow, and fake nice. Maybe she found out something crazy about her bf and was having an off day. I saw a kitchen worker in the bathroom leave without washing her hands. Maybe they have their own sink in the kitchen. Bathrooms are unisex for anyone who needs that info. This place is like a dive bar vibe with hipster drinks that aren't great. Identity crisis with a view.

Cassandra O.

Yelp
Cocktail menu is different and unique, but wish there were more options. Service was slow and server did not seemed thrilled to be there. But the cactus fries were super fun to try, and surprisingly tasted quite good!

A. M.

Yelp
Great ambiance good food and nice place to have your casual drink and chat Service is always good very spacious place I say give it try what not ?!

Melanie P.

Yelp
Christian was fantastic! Gave us all the best recommendation. Drinks were delicious. Highly recommended date venue.

Emily B.

Yelp
Omg love this place Suzy was awesome! Made our night Great drinks Love the music & atmosphere

WW T.

Yelp
Food and drinks were unique and well prepared. The atmosphere had a cool vibe sitting outside then also a one-person solo band played live music. The service was disappointing. The server just walked up to the table and stared at us. Did not attempt to try and explain the menu or upsell on items which may have made the experience better. With so many options in the area will probably try someplace different next time. Would recommend you try it for yourself, the server may have just been having an off night.

Aryana M.

Yelp
This place is so so cool! I would have never expected a place so beautiful in this location. The entrance is a red door that pops right up on you, take the stairs to the top and find a rooftop bar! The view is absolutely gorgeous up there, tons of seating whether a table, bar, or facing the view. We tasted some of the beautiful hand crafted cocktails that were so delicious and creative. We came at brunch time and literally every single thing on the menu looked so so good you will seriously want to try it all. We go the quest fundido to snack on super yummy! Our server was super sweet and attentive helping us with the menu. All around a great experience.

Stacey A.

Yelp
Referred by friend. Excellent service , see my pics in previous post. Great drinks, superb handmade enhanced liquor and syrups Check out Suzi and Christian, fantastic service, Jahan

Yelp
A friend of mine took my gf and I to this spot for her bfs 21st bday and I must say, it was pretty damn legit. And in all honesty, this restaurant was about the closest thing you could get to modern Native American food, so I'm glad we went. It's an upper level location, so it has amazing views of downtown Gilbert and they okay live music on Thursday night which is fantastic btw. Perfect spot for a date night or just to grab some grub. Here's what we had: Avocado Boats - Roasted Pineapple & Corn mix, Cilantro, Crema, Cotija Cheese & Tajin. Pretty good, not so easy to dip into, but fairly good. Jalapeño Poppers - Legit. Great flavor, stuffed with a house made Cilantro Cream Cheese, toasted perfectly and topped with crispy Prosciutto. Worth the order. Copper Star Beef Slider - A Beef Patty with Goat Cheese, topped with Semi-Dried Tomatoes, Arugula and a Balsamic Reduction drizzle. Pretty damn good. Nopales Fritas - This was my favorite appetizer, Crispy Cactus Paddles, Yucca, Sprouts, Chile Threads with a Cilantro Crema drizzle. Bomb!! Must try for sure. Steak Medallions - This was on the dinner menu when I went, 3 perfectly cooked Steak Medallions (medium for me of course), topped with Prosciutto wrapped Asparagus on a bed of a Pepita Hummus with a Red Wine Reduction sauce. Pretty good, I'd recommend trying it. The only downfall was there wasn't many options for dinner, about a total of four I think and I believe two were soup options. Either way, still worth checking out, great vibe, great ambience, good food and good music. I'll definitely be returning! Enjoy!

Raymond C.

Yelp
Drinks are phenomenal. Recommend going at 5pm so you can experience Arizona's stunning sunset. Our Server was great, extremely knowledgeable about the drinks and recommended the Tortilla soup....Soooo good! That was my first time here and I'm glad my wife and I chose to go. Keep it up Sotol

Hanna P.

Yelp
We've come a handful of times and have enjoyed each night. The cocktails are fun and the atmosphere is such a different vibe from the rest of downtown. We also finally got food our last visit (usually we just came for drinks) and it was delicious. I can't remember the name but it had nopales and yucca and was a good compliment to our hearty drinks. We'll definitely keep coming back!

Savoy G.

Yelp
First and foremost, Jordan's service was top tier. The drinks (we had espresso martinis), views, vibes. Definitely worth checking out. Dog friendly too!

Krista P.

Yelp
Still really love this place for the views, but the service was a bit awkward this time around and they didn't have live music the night we went. Will still come keep coming back though!

James H.

Yelp
A hidden gem. A fairly small space on the 3rd floor, with a comfortable patio and open-aired bar as well as some indoor seating. I've been here twice, and been able to sample many of the food and cocktail offerings. Everything is very good, some of the best in the East Valley. Today I had the jalapeño poppers (these aren't like the deep-fried bar food at all), chicken tortilla soup, and filet mignon tacos. So impressed, the soup has some chunks of carrot, potatoes, and cheese in it. Never had anything quite like it. Many of the items are gluten free (things with corn tortillas, which covers a number of items) or can be made that way if you have an allergy or preference for that. They also had some live music, it was pleasant and not overly loud.

Anne D.

Yelp
Amazing, lowkey bar with great food that sits right. The drinks are to die for, by far the best. Suzie the bartender is my favorite, TOP TEIR service from her! 1000% would recommend coming here!

Tina G.

Yelp
Great service and food! Would highly recommend for happy hour. Can't beat the view at sunset!

Anna B.

Yelp
The view is pretty, although it was frustrating that they only had 2 small heaters for the entire venue and of course only two tables are able to use them at once. The drinks were very watered down, definitely not worth the price. We ordered the churros and they were raw in the middle. Needless to say I doubt we'll be back.

Greeshma R.

Yelp
We had our office party here on a Friday evening. The place was popping. It is a roof top restaurant with amazing view of the downtown and the water tank. The weather was perfect and it worked well for us. This place doesn't have enough entree options it's only drinks and light eats. Tried few food options & drinks. I went with a sotol so good for drink which was tequila based. The drink was pretty good. For food tried hummus platter, sliders, poblano rings, browned cauliflower, half baked artichoke. Food tasted average, the sliders, artichoke was super salty. The sliders ended up being soggy too. I enjoyed the browned cauliflower, otherwise it was just the chips, salsa, hummus platter that saved the evening. If you are looking for nice view, good drinks, some fun and a vibe, this place ticks it off.

Cindy L.

Yelp

All in all we had a great time.

Yelp
So... we come here about once every couple of months and the nice thing is it's an open air, breezy, shaded rooftop bar where you can cool off in the summer and enjoy good drinks sans any air conditioning. I recommend the Smoked Old Fashioned. The bartenders and servers are always helpful and looking to make your experience memorable. The menu is short, but well executed. It changes regularly so I hesitate to recommend anything in particular. Although I'd like to take this opportunity to recommend the owners add a baked Brie appetizer like the bar in Scottsdale has or had. Ya hear me Suzie? Speaking of Suzie, we always loved having her as our bartender at Bitters, but Bitters changed owners, Suzie is at Sotol now and I'd like to see the baked Brie added to the menu at Sotol more than the elves at the North Pole like to make toys. So, ditch Dirks' place and give yourself a heart attack from climbing three stories worth of stairs to Sotol and hang out in the breeze for Memorial Day and have a smoked old fashioned.

Joanna S.

Yelp
Food and drinks are exceptional. Love the atmosphere of the rooftop bar and our server gave us a taste of the Sotol, a distilled spirit from the Chihuahuan desert that we had never heard of before. Overall a great experience.

Mindy B.

Yelp
Great cocktails and great view. Though my first experience at Sotol was so-so (due to a passive aggressive server), my second experience was fantastic. Bri was friendly and attentive and our drinks and appetizers were delicious. I'm glad I gave this place another shot! Ask for Bri.

Valerie J.

Yelp
The only rooftop bar in Gilbert is definitely a hidden gem and should not be missed. Great vibe, amazing cocktails, and excellent service. Christian was super attentive and gave great recommendations. We came here for after dinner drinks, music was great, it was packed but we were able to find perimeter seats. I had the smoked old fashioned and the tableside presentation set the precedence for our visit - smooth and delicious. We also had the bartenders choice, which was well-balanced and flavorful. We changed it up in the second round with the Colada - another tableside presentation, flambed (I love dinner & a show) and generously poured. Lastly, a spicy cocktail, dealers choice, and it was delightful. We'll be back for the drinks and the ambience.
