Casual restaurant serving soul food staples such as smothered pork chops, collard greens, and peach cobbler.
"Open at its new location in Ashview Heights, just west of Atlanta University Center, Soulbox is described as a Southern-Afro soul food restaurant. Regulars to its previous location on Oak Street, and now on Fair Street, swear by the smothered fried pork chops served with yellow saffron rice, smoked fried turkey wings, and fall-off-the-bone baby back ribs. Entrees come with cornbread cakes and a choice of two sides, including collards, creamy mac and cheese, and cornbread dressing. Make sure to also order some strawberry lemonade and peach cobbler for dessert." - Mike Jordan, Eater Staff
"Soulbox, a fast-casual mostly takeout spot, sells boxable lunches for around $15. Get a Soul-boxable—you pick your meat option, from flavorful whole-wing chicken, to tender pork chops, and saucy ribs, along with a side and cornbread. With the exception of savory black-eyed peas and collards, many of the sides are super sweet, especially the wincingly sugary candied yams, so expect to fight off a potential sugar crash if heading back to work." - demarco williams, nina reeder, jacinta howard
"When your sad desk lunch kills your will to work, Soulbox in the West End is your $15 lifeline to a huge lunch portion, just order wisely. A Soul-boxable (their take on a boxed lunch) includes a meat option—from flavorful chicken or shrimp to pork chops or ribs—along with one side, and a piece of soft cornbread. If you go for the whole fried chicken wings, dousing it in very wet lemon pepper sauce will run you an extra $2 (yes, just for the sauce). With the exception of the savory vegan black-eyed peas and collards made with turkey meat, a lot of the sides here are a little sugary, especially the wincingly sweet candied yams. The peach cobbler is moist and comes in a super cute personal pan container, although it too, is doused with sugar crystals on the crust." - Jacinta Howard
"Recently opened on the quieter side of Fair Street, Soulbox is billed as a “Southern Afro-Soul” restaurant slinging plates of fried chicken, mac and cheese, collards, and cornbread. There’s also saucy baby back pork ribs, oxtails over saffron rice, fried or grilled pork chops, baked turkey, and other comforting dishes to help students power through the academic year." - Mike Jordan
