Love the decor when you walk in. The noise was moderate. Music selection was great. Only complaint is some songs were LOUDER. Andrea (hopefully I spelled that rt) was our waitress. She was very consistent. She knew the menu perfectly and made great suggestions. I can appreciate a waitress/waiter who actually knows the menu. My friend and I ordered thefried green tomatoes, fried chicken, Cajun greens, and Mac and cheese. The tomatoes were very delectable. The sauce they give with them tasted more like a garlic aioli than a remoulade sauce. I like garlic so complaints from me on that but I wouldn't call it a remoulade. The greens were collard. They were good but definitely didn't taste any Cajun seasoning. The fried chicken was fried to perfection but we weren't a fan of the maple glaze it was drenched in, idk if you can get it without the glaze but that would be my suggestion. The mac and cheese was appetizing but I wouldn't call it mac and cheese. The consistency was similar to watery alfredo sauce. We also had the sweet potatoes. Which were medallion cut on top of a puree sweet potato. They give you three but 1.5 were burnt so could only try the inside of it. The puree was delicious. We ordered the sticky date cake. The sticky date cake needs some work. It was a bit dried out.

Let me start by telling you, My wife and I enjoyed every second at Southern Chicago. Rich was a phenomenal host. He was very knowledgeable of the menu, funny, and charismatic. We both have food allergies and he pointed out what the safest option would be and the food was amazinggggggg. Food came out promptly and looked outstanding. Cooked to perfection. Thank you Rich 😁 The ribeye was great 10/10 Amazing atmosphere, We will be back!!!

Visited for the first time on a Thursday night and was pleasantly surprised after feeling unsure from the FAQs. I was greeted right away and waited at the bar until my party arrived. The ambiance is excellent, relaxed lighting, and smooth R&B that really sets the mood. Bar service was a little slow since only one bartender was working, but once she got to me, my Old Fashioned was perfect. Our server, Andrea, was fantastic, attentive, friendly, and spot‑on with her recommendations. We ordered the Cornbread Skillet, Crab Cake, Calamari, and Shrimp & Caviar Deviled Eggs, plus the Barrel Aged Maple Fried Chicken, Bone‑In Rib Eye, and Lobster Mac & Cheese. Every dish was outstanding. The chicken was incredibly moist, my steak was slightly overseasoned but still excellent, and the lobster mac was a hit. My only downsides were the slow bar response and the surprisingly high price for sparkling water. The food itself is absolutely worth it, though. I’ll definitely be back, especially to try the happy hour—and this is a spot I’d bring friends for special occasions.

Southern Chicago feels like home with a touch of class. The Wagyu Burger was cooked perfectly, the Lobster Mac tasted like home, and the greens? Just like Grandmama’s! The cream spinach and cornbread were amazing too — and I don’t even like sweet cornbread, but theirs was next level. Now that bourbon chicken… off the hook! 🔥 I’ve never tasted chicken that good before — juicy, smoky, and full of flavor. And get this — it was my first time trying oysters, the Rockefeller oysters, and they totally surprised me. I didn’t think I’d like oysters, but because everything else was so good, I gave them a try — and I was not disappointed! 💯 Our waiter Rich was friendly, gave the best recommendations, and every one hit! Even met the head chef, and I told him, “You’re trying to fool us — Grandmama had to be in that kitchen!” Southern Chicago hits every note — soulful, elegant, and straight from the heart. This was our first time at Southern Chicago and it did not disappoint: the food, the music, but especially the service! Even though it was extremely busy (and a bit of a snowstorm outside), our server, Malik, was incredibly professional, responsive, and attentive. He helped us decide what we wanted to try as first timers and we ultimately chose the Restaurant Week experience. It was all so tasty, and Malik was refreshingly thoughtful and kind. He made sure our first experience was unforgettable. He’s exactly who you’d want as your waiter, so if you’re due or overdue for a visit you won’t regret being placed in Malik’s section. Listed below: Kale Caesar Salad Collard Greens Garlic Prawn Brown Butter Ice Cream (I literally need an endless supply of this! Best ice cream I’ve ever had OMG! Mouth watering just thinking about it!)

Ambience and front of the house was promising. Our table had the crab cake, fried chicken, red velvet waffle, eggs, oysters, lobster bisque, chicken pasta, and Short Rib Benedict. The oysters and crab cake were good. Everything else was ok and took quite a bit of time to make it to the table. Our glasses were often empty and we went noticeable periods of time with no service. I’d love to go back and sit at the bar. This time with a little hot sauce, salt, and pepper in my bag. Hoping they can work out the kinks because the restaurant is beautiful and much needed in the south loop.

First of all ”Rich” is that guy hands down! But I’ll get back to him. From the moment we walked in from the host to the decor, the lighting and music all flowed like the perfect marching band where everyone played their instruments in one accord. Now back to Rich! The perfect name because he was rich with energy and a knowledge of the menu, all of his suggestions were spot on, then chef Xavier stopped by the table and he gave separate suggestions that were almost exactly what Rich suggested. I had the maple fried chicken, my date had the lamb chops, we had the mash potatoes and greens, apps we had the calamari and prawns and finished it of with my date having the chocolate ganache cake. We both agreed that the overall experience was a 10, oh and I can’t forget the overall customer service, I watch other tables and they got the same quality service, so again an overall 10……………I’ll definitely be back Chef Rashad.

What a fantastic dinner experience! As you walk in, the decor is upscale and elegant. The chandeliers really catch your eye. John was a server. He was attentive, very knowledgeable, very personable yet professional. He gave wonderful recommendations and asked just the right questions in order to offer those recommendations. Jon has a great personality and was able to answer lots of questions that we had and also checked on us just the right amount, not too much but enough to know that he was watching our table to make sure we were taken care of. And we were! The service was excellent, the food came out hot, well plated and was very tasty. It was not over seasoned. You could taste whatever the food is that you purchased without having too much seasoning or salt. Everything was wonderful. Mouthwatering drinks as well. I really enjoyed the food and my experience. We went at 5 PM to avoid the crowds. Bravo!
