The Best Dishes Eater San Francisco’s Editors Ate in June | Eater SF

"Set under long tree limbs on V Street with tiny outdoor seating, the kimchi fried rice here hits with a textural composition that breaks from same-same fried rices: chunks of spam, scallions, and nori provide contrast, the spice is pleasant and mellow, and the cabbage is not overly fried, providing a firm chew. Eater LA’s Matt Kang notes that “the Korean dishes here smack harder than the Vietnamese cuisine.” The reviewer adds, “I found everything we ordered — and we ordered a lot — downright devourable, hoovering up bite after bite.” Open Thursday through Monday 9 a.m. to 2 p.m." - Paolo Bicchieri

How Asian American-Owned Restaurants Are Reviving Sacramento’s Historic Japantown - Eater SF

"There, on the corner of 10th and V streets, sits Southside Super, a long and narrow restaurant where business partners Phuong Tran and Seoyeon Oh serve dishes inspired by their Vietnamese and Korean identities: pushing steaming bowls of chicken pho across the counter and rolling sheets of seaweed around seasoned rice, carrots, pickled radishes, perilla leaves, egg, and fish cake to make kimbap." - Lauren Saria

We were there for lunch. We went there a bit before 12pm and there was already a line. Good thing that we didn't wait too long to get a table. I have tried the spicy chicken which is the special on the menu, however, the chicken is a bit dry. I think I should get the bento box. My friends had chicken pho, and my friend told me the broth tastes really good. Maybe I will try it next time.

Google
In a nutshell; small neat place to try good food. Can also grab pay and go as well. Can get a little crowded and cramp a bit but still a pleasant experience, staff were all great, food is good, and would try again. There is a small lot available on the side to park but can get filled easily if busy. Kind of reminds me of very local eatery places in local Japan. Overall neat place if you don't mind the limited space and still want to enjoy some good food.

We had such a nice experience at Southside Super! It was obvious that it was our first time there. The staff was so kind to help us understand how to order food. It's a combination of self-serve and/or order from the kitchen. Meatballs in Tomato Sauce was our favorite. The dipping sauce was so fresh and unbelievably delicious! Definitely will order again. We put this Vietnamese & Korean dining treasure on our "we'll be back" list when we are in town.

This place is very modest in size, but never in flavor. I appreciate the vegetarian and non red-meat options. Their to-go's are just right for a picnic, light meal, or an afternoon pick-me-up. I haven't had their dine-in meals yet, but my sibling used to frequent this place with their friends before they moved away. I checked this place out thanks to their rave recommendations! The food is good, the service is friendly, and I never have to ask for napkins or utensils! If you're in the area, I totally think it's worth the visit. Plus, you'll be helping a local small business! ( ˘▽˘)っ♨

Small spot with limited seating, but charming restaurant with very friendly staff. Many cold items are prepared and grab and go. Hot dishes are made to order. We had tofu spring rolls which were quite good. I had a Vietnamese salad with beef and noodles. My wife had a pork belly wrap with kimchi. My salad was good, but mostly noodles and I found the pork belly to be lacking flavor. Overall, an enjoyable lunch experience.

Google
Such a cool little spot filled with Vietnamese and Korean dishes. Near Southside Park. There's cold and hot food grab n go deli items. These are pre-packaged and ready to eat foods. Super convenient. Their menu rotates with fresh ingredients. There's also a menu that you can order from and it's cooked to order. It's a small place so don't try to bring a group. Not happening. I'm talking 12-14 seats total type of small. For its size, it's super efficient. I opted for some grab n go items around 10:30am. Here's what I had. *Spam & Veggie Kimbap - Good, but I'll try it without spam next time. They offer a veggie option and beef option as well. *Bulgogi Dosirak Lunch Box - Meat was salty but texture was good. Paired up nicely with the steamed rice. It did not have the overly sugary taste like KBBQ does. *Braised Pork Belly w/Quail Eggs - My favorite of everything ordered. Very close to how I make this dish at home and it was deliciously comforting. Be sure to check their hours. They can run out of the goods so be sure to get there early.

Never disappointed with the food. Staff is always friendly and on top of everything. Leftovers stay really well too.

This place has always been on my list. It's really small but has easy parking. I got the kimchi fried rice and it was really good. Went on a weekday during lunchtime and it wasn't that busy. Everyone was so nice. I will be coming back.

Yelp
Over the years, there have been plenty of different ways I've come across restaurants to try - word of mouth, social media, unintentionally stumbling across them in person, and, of course, Yelp. However, with Southside Super, you could say it was as random as it was serendipitous - while zooming in on random parts of Midtown on Google Maps. Honestly, I have no idea as to what it was that got me to click on their page, but as soon as I saw the business photos show up, and after looking at the reviews on Yelp, I'm sure glad I did! Now, even though I didn't necessarily have any expectations before coming here, I still had high hopes after seeing how good everything looked. Their diner setup is fairly modest in size (seats a dozen across a couple of two tops and counter seats), but it certainly doesn't stop them from putting out a ton of good stuff. The menu is super unique, offering a mix of Korean and Vietnamese comfort foods side by side (not fusion) that are both made to order and premade in their heated and refrigerated display units, such as Vietnamese Commoner's Rice, Kimchi Fried Rice, Japchae, and Spring Rolls, just to name a few. Most importantly, everything looked just as good in person as in the photos...and tasted even better! -- BRAISED SHORT RIBS with Potatoes, Carrots, and Rice Cakes with Rice and Kimchi...$20 This was so good, I could devour an entire pot of this! The vegetables were tender and I liked the rice cakes, but the star was clearly the short ribs - super flavorful and just fall apart tender. The kimchi did a great job of helping to cut the stew/sauce too, which was equal parts rich and delicious! -- KIMCHI SPAM FRIED RICE with Fried Egg...$13.50 One of the best Kimchi Fried Rice dishes I've had! The portion initially looked light, but it's actually fairly generous. The kimchi had the perfect amount of acidity, the rice was tender, and I loved how the SPAM was cut into such big cubes. -- COM BINH DAN (Commoners Rice) - Caramelized Pork Belly and Quail Eggs over Rice with Mustard Green Pickles...$12 I've yet to find a version of this as good as my friend's aunt's, but this one isn't far off! The pork belly was flavorful and not all that fatty, the quail eggs were great, and I loved the sauce they drizzled on. All in all, this was terrific! -- EGG SALAD SANDWICH...$8 My least favorite thing I've had here and it actually wasn't all that bad. The egg salad is creamy and flavorful and I liked how there was a soft boiled egg in the middle. The furikake is a nice touch too, but I thought the bread was a bit dry. -- BULGOGI KIMBAP - Seaweed, Seasoned Rice, Carrot, Pickled Radish, Pickled Burdock, Chives, Eggs, and Fish Cake...$8 Although the typical Korean market's will give you more, this tastes so much better and is just packed with goodies! The bulgogi was awesome (not overly salty), the veggies were perfect, and the rice is pillowy soft. So good! -- SPAM KIMBAP - Seaweed, Seasoned Rice, Carrot, Pickled Radish, Pickled Burdock, Chives, Eggs, and Fish Cake...$8 Pretty solid, though I liked the Bulgogi Kimbap better (not that there was anything wrong with this one). One thing that I do wish was different was that neither roll was completely cut, so they came apart whenever I tore a piece off. Along with how fantastic I've found the food to be, the workers here are just as awesome. Each time I've been here, they've all been super warm and welcoming. What's more, it's pretty cool how they stopped to look up from what they were doing to say hi to what seemed like a couple of regulars who came in. If that doesn't give friendly diner vibes, I don't know what does! As much as I've thoroughly enjoyed my experiences here, I can't say I'm without some regrets. Namely, that I forgot to take photos of the Kimbaps, but I'm more than happy to come back to correct such a mistake (and to try more of their menu)! Southside Super - I genuinely hope you guys blow up and eventually expand to the Bay Area so that I can frequent you guys more often. If nothing else, it would save me from having to drive all of the way up here just for your Short Rib Stew and Commoner's Rice, because I absolutely have no problem doing it to get another order or three!

Yelp
This is a cute little spot that serves up quick Korean meals. I got a spam kimbap and a braised pork belly rice bowl. The kimbap was just okay. It's a pretty good size but didn't have any flavors that popped. The pork belly was very tasty though, and it was served with quail eggs! There's limited seating so I opted for takeout. There's a few more items on the menu that intrigued me, so I will likely be back to try those in the future!

Yelp
Rocklin bestie Cam picks another winner! I loved all the variations of kimbap we ordered (but I have to say I especially enjoyed the vegan and tuna mayonnaise), our vermicelli bowls, and the meatball sandwich with the perfect chunky tomato and onion sauce. Please order before finding a seat, and be mindful of all the other patrons trying to get to that amazing food.

Yelp
I've made 3 attempts to try to grab some of their Kimbap and premade meals. The first two times failed (out of stock and a huge line on a weekend). On a Monday morning at 9, I found myself as one of the first few customers and successfully got two Kimbaps and a meal. - Bulgogi Kimbap: so flavorful with the shiso leaf! I absolutely love how tightly packed it is. - Spam Kimbap: definitely a fun take with lovely flavors as well. - Pork belly with quail egg: I grew up eating this because my mom made it all the time. It's definitely comfort food for me, and I love that they include pickled veggies to go along with it, which definitely cuts the richness and fattiness! I guess all of my lunch money will be spent here from here on out. I can't wait to try some of their other items!

Yelp
Great, small counter restaurant a few blocks from Southside Park. Excellent Korean fusion menu, most items are in the cold case, but several hot items are available too. The service is very good and the prices are not bad.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try this spot for awhile and finally did lunch to go and it did not disappoint. The spot is really small so didn't bother with trying to eat there. They offer a mix of ready to go and made to order dishes. I did a bento box and it was a ton of food. My husband got the meatball sandwich which he said was delicious and the sauce was so flavorful as well as the kimbap roll. Would definitely go back and try more options from the menu.

Yelp
This is a small kitchen with a concise menu. Long counter bar and some small tables for a small dining space. Cozy and fun to sit at the bar, but don't come with a group and expect to find seating -- two tops and bar only. They offer Vietnamese and Korean foods. Some are cooked in front of you in their kitchen. The rest are pre-made for you to self-serve. The short rib was amazing - tender and just the right amount of fatty. Super tender and had just the right amount of sauce over the rice to make a comforting and rich stew. The chunks of meat here huge and fell right off the bone

Yelp
Yelp works!! This place popped up on my "local picks near you" feed while I was sitting in the car waiting for my wife to finish shopping in IKEA. A nice detour from my usual In N Out runs. Quality/Quantity - Shrimp & Pork Spring Roll - The sauce is amazing! Perfect combination of peanut butter and spice! Had a slight kick to it. There are other ingredients in their sauce also because it tasted different to what I am accustomed to, but in a good way. Spam Kimbap - Their kimbaps are huge! Thank you! One is more than enough for me as a meal. They were especially perfect while driving back to Reno. The perfect amount of salt with the spam. Good proportions with all the ingredients in the Kimbap. See picture. Bulgogi Kimbap - Again, generous portions. The daikon radish was not pickled in this kimbap. Not sure if that is how they usually make it...? I prefer pickled radish. Also, this radish was not as crunchy as the other kimbaps. Small menu and I am sure all are done well. See pictures. Asian chips are also available. Logo t-shirts available. Atmosphere - Very small local restaurant. We came here for the prepared meals. When we got here, they were already low in stock. For the kimbap, they only had tuna. So when I inquired, they gave me the above other varieties! Table or counter seating. Also due to the very small location, they prefer that you do NOT sit until your food is ready, giving others an opportunity to eat also. See picture. Small bench outside if you need to wait for your food. Small parking lot. Narrow parking spaces. Questionable drivers. I watched as they tried to park, driving in head first, then trying to back up. Interesting driveway with a huge tree in the middle; I should have taken a picture. Clean bathroom. Open 5 days a week from 9am to 2pm, closed Tue & Wed. Service - 5 stars, greeted immediately. Got me other types of kimbaps when asked. Rang me up immediately also. Very efficient. Price - $23, inexpensive in my book. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since May of 2023. You now have a regular customer! And I am telling all my Yelp friends!

Yelp
Decided to drive to this place for lunch from the office. It was very packed inside. I didn't bother trying to order off their menu so I opted to grab a bulgogi kimbap and took it back to the office. The kimbap had a pretty good balanced flavor. I would need to come much earlier if I want to dine in. The restaurant layout was pretty much a little refreshed from June's Cafe that was previously here. Small tables on against the wall and stools for people to sit and eat at the bar.

Yelp
Love the fusion of Vietnamese and Korean foods here and both done so correct. Workers here are amazing and showed us around and pointed out the different items they offered. Favorite item for me was the meatball sandwich, tastes like someone's grandma made it in the best way possible. Baguette was nice and toasted, picked veggies added a bright fresh crunch paired so well with the delicate savory pork meatballs cooked in the tomato sauce.

Yelp
What a small little hidden gem in Sacramento. One of my favorite spots in Sacramento to grab takeaway and reasonable prices! My family and I visited Southside Super recently and were amazed at the various options for kimbap: - Tuna Kimbap - Vegan Kimbap - Bulgolgi Kimbap - Spam Kimbap We were able to grab two vegan kimbaps for my husband, a tuna kimbap for myself and two spam kimbap for my kids. They also had an array of takeway bento boxes, spring rolls, japchae and more! They were all freshly made and ready for enjoyment. I was a little envious of those who were seated in the restaurant enjoying their ramen and other yummy dishes. We unfortunately did not have time to eat there and had to grab our food and go. The customer service was wonderful, the staff were very nice and the place is ADORABLE! I can't wait to come back for more! I would recommend to family and friends!

Yelp
I've been wanting to stop at Southside Super since they first opened. I love Korean and Vietnamese cuisine and it's so fun that they serve both here. They have a small parking lot, which makes stopping by so much easier. There is also street parking, but when I visited the street parking was pretty crowded but the lot had plenty of spaces. It's a really small space, but they make the most of it. They have bar seating where you can dine in and a hot case and cold case with food and drink options that you can enjoy there or take out. The check out area is in the back of the store as well. I ended up picking up Spam Kimbap, Beef Bulgogi Japchae, and Pork and Shrimp Spring Rolls. The Kimbap was a sizable roll and was wrapped nicely and pre-sliced which made it super easy to eat when I got home. The individual pieces held up well and each bite had a great balance of ingredients. It tasted so good too! I want to try the other versions they offer, while I was there I saw a tuna mayo and vegan option as well. The Japchae was the dish I was looking most forward to trying. It's one of my favorite Korean dishes and I could eat just this as a meal and be so happy. The version I bought had beef bulgogi and I really enjoyed it. The Shrimp and Pork Spring rolls came in a container with two pieces along with peanut sauce. These were also really tasty and I enjoyed their peanut sauce a lot. Each of the items I bought were $7, which I think is pretty affordable. After tax and tip it came to $27.41 and easily could feed two. I'll definitely be back very soon.

Yelp
I love the food here! I always get the kimchi fried rice as a comfort meal and the staff is so friendly. It's a bit of a tight squeeze when there's a lot of people but the wait time is short!

Yelp
Due to the limited hours and location, I can never find the right time to try Southside Super. Since I was on my way to SMF airport and dislike airport food, I called to order two kimbaps to eat on the plane. They typically don't accept kimbap to-go orders but young lady made an exception for me. My lucky day! Southside Super is an Asian Diner & Deli, located in Downtown serving both Vietnamese & Korean dishes to dine in and to-go. The diner is tiny with few small tables and diner style counter/stool. It was almost full when I got there at around noon time. The fried tofu kimbap was flavorful and generous portion for $7. It's interesting they put perilla or shiso (not sure which one) in the kimbap. I'm used to tasting the spinach usually, which has a small amount. Overall, I like it and truly a perfect meal for the plane or on the go! I also got the bulgogi kimbap but gave it to my son who drove me to the airport. I'll update once I get his feedback. Besides kimbap, they also have this vietnamese meatball on a baguette that I would love to try, which will probably taste better eaten there.

Yelp
I saw this place and instagram, and I so so excited to finally stop by. I arrived around 11am, and I was afraid that they would have no more hot foods available. When I arrived, they have 1 vegetarian japchae plate. And when I talked to the girl at the register, she asked if I would like one beef Kim bop roll to be made. I thought that was very kind of her to ask, because they were almost out of the ingredients. When I got my food, it did not disappoint! Everything was so yummy and so flavorful. I want to go back again and try their pho. Thank you for the great hospitality and yummy food!

Yelp
Super small place. They have a hot deli section which can sell out if u get there too late. They also have an order to made menu. We got the egg salad sando and 2 kimbaps to try. One tuna mayo and the last beef bulgogi. Sando was just ok. Egg was fluffy but the flavor wasn't really there. I enjoyed the beef bulgogi kimbap but the tuna one was just ok.. my bf said he likes the kimbaps better at KP supermarket food court. There were a couple of items that I saw on Yelp that I wanted to try which they didn't have on the menu. The worker said to check their IG for the most up to date menu bc it changes.

Yelp
My husband and I stopped by on a weekend morning to grab some food from the ready-made / grab-and-go section of Southside Super. I had had Southside bookmarked forever since they first opened and I was so excited to try it out. There's a small parking lot which is super convenient for its location downtown, along with additional street parking if needed. The location itself is super cozy with limited seating (counter and a couple of small tables) and the pre-made section towards the back left. We were welcomed when we walked in and made a beeline for the grab-and-go, but I was soo tempted to order other food too since it smelled so good. I decided to come back next time for an in-restaurant experience, and we got the spam kimbap, beef bulgogi japchae, and egg salad sandwich to try. I couldn't wait to get home, so I opened everything in the car. The spam kimbap was yummy and filling and such a great deal for a portable and tasty meal. The bulgogi japchae wasn't my favorite and I won't be ordering that again; the meat was on the saltier side and the noodles just tasted like soy sauce. My absolute favorite item was the egg salad sandwich. Something about the simplicity of the sandwich and the extra crunch of the fried onion pieces and umami of the seasoning really hit the spot. I'll definitely be grabbing another one of those! Stay tuned for an updated review once I get a chance to stop by for their fresh, in-restaurant items! They looked and smelled amazing and I passed by diners with their food.

Yelp
I love this little spot located in Southside Park. My fav item is Kimbob (Vegan, Tuna, and Bulgobi). I am not a big fan of the spam one because of the size (big) and is not pan fried. Of course, everything else is great, too. Kimchi Fried Rice, Pho, seasonal GalbiTang (Korean Beef Soup), spring rolls, etc... This place is small and narrow. They have pre-made food on the left side as you walk in. You will need to grab what you like and then walk towards the end to pay. I recommend to get there before 11:30AM Enjoy!
google avatar

Yelp
Walking in, it's a very intimate setting as there is a very small aisle to walk down and a bar where you can chat with the cook as you eat. If you sit down at the bar or table, they'll make your food once you order. Towards the back, there is an area for you to do a grab and go if you're stopping by to grab lunch. One of the workers came by and noticed me bring a little lost and helped me understand how things work if I was just doing a grab and go. For this visit, I grabbed a spam kimbap and some beef japchae. They also had vegan options of them and a bunch of other options, but the kimbap and japchae were what I was craving Kimbap - so many flavors. I had sour, sweet, umami, and so much more every time I ate a piece. Despite being made early on, it wasn't soggy and still was very good Japchae - opening up, you get an immediate strong smell of soy sauce. This is one of my favorite side dishes so I loved that they had it for such an affordable price Overall, great value for their food, gives an intimate setting if that's what you're looking for, or it can be a great grab and go if you need a quick lunch for work

Yelp
I went here for lunch yesterday and ordered their meatball banh mi to go. It definitely exceeded my expectations, the quality and flavor were super good. I would get it again but I'm also interested in trying other menu items. I took mine to go since I work nearby but they do have limited seating inside if you want to eat there. They make you wait outside for to go orders to keep the inside clear for those waiting to order and eating inside which is fair. Also the art outside is cute which is a plus.

Yelp
This was a perfect place to pick up already prepared kimbap, bento boxes & cabbage shrimp salads. The kimbap we picked up was the bulgogi, fried tofu & spam. Omgosh these kimbap were the best we have ever had. This small business that just opened up back in May 2023 used to be June's cafe. It's a perfect fit with a small private parking lot although we did park on the street nearby. The place didn't change much from the original cafe yet the food is geared to be Korean which is a nice variety since OsakaYa is within walking distance. We love Korean food despite not being Korean. Lonnie was the perfect positive energetic gal to help me out. She quickly rang up our items to go. We weren't that hangry to order food to eat in house but that was a great opportunity to do so right then & there! Just bc they just opened & no other customers were in the restaurant. They currently are closed Tuesdays & Wednesdays but even though they are only opened 9-2 PM I hope this business does well & stays open. Bc this kimbap was way better than what you purchase at KP supermarket in Rancho Cordova! The reason was bc they tasted like Mom's home cooking! We enjoyed the fresh crunchy cucumbers in them! My wife liked the cabbage shrimp salad & spicy chicken bento. The spicy chicken surprisingly had tteokbokki (rice cake) in it. It wasn't too spicy only just a smidge. The japchae in the dosirak was very tasty & delicious. Wish we bought more! Hope to return back soon! Please do support these small businesses. We want them to stay open! I know their hours are difficult to get to 9-2 Thursday through Monday but at least they are open on weekends unless there is a holiday they may be closed so just call the day before to double check like Saturday which my wife did. We found the kimbap were perfect snack items on the road. I'm getting hangry writing this review right now! We loved this place that we shall return soon & would try either the lemongrass beef noodle or vegetarian rice paper roll in house! See you soon Southside Super! Oh by the way this business is walking distance to Southside park! How convenient! Just a side note they also sell Vietnamese food. Just check it out in person to see if it's to your liking.

Yelp
Wow this little hole in the wall is such a gem. I almost want to keep it low key but they definitely deserve a visit!! You order in the front and they have a limited menu but I love that. They have different bento boxes to choose from as well as bibimbap. It is worth to note they have limited supply of certain types of meat/vegetarian options so the earlier you come the better! Chicken pho is made to order and wow it reminded me of my best friend's mom making me her homemade pho. Broth was so flavorful, came out piping hot, and tastes homemade in the best way! It doesn't taste like normal pho stores where you know they make the broth in huge batches. The portions are perfect and although at first glance you might think it's expensive it honestly isn't with the way they make everything. Also the workers there are sooo nice! This will definitely be where I go anytime I crave a bowl of hot soup for my soul!

Yelp
On an overcast Winter Saturday afternoon, on our way home from downtown Sacramento, my wife had a craving for Vietnamese food. She suggested Southside Super that had both Korean and Vietnamese food. We pulled into the small parking lot located in the Southside Park neighborhood, on V Street between 9th and 10th Street. We entered the restaurant and looked for a place to sit. After a period of time, we understood that we needed to go to the back of the restaurant cash register to place our order, pay and then find a place to sit. The menu was simple, but at 12:15pm, most of the Made to Order items were no longer available, and the items in the grab-and-go display case were exhausted as well. We found an open table and ordered Beef Kimbap ($8), Pho Chicken ($15) and Meatball sandwich ($9). A bite of the Beef Kimbap was a good balance of bulgogi, carrots, pickled radish, fish cake and eggs, balanced with seasoned white rice wrapped in seaweed. The Pho Chicken was aromatic with a rich broth that includes a toasted cruller. The Meatball Sandwich selection had the option of having the pork and jicama meatballs served on a baguette with pickled vegetables or over rice. The bread version, came with a bowl of tangy tomato sauce to dip the sandwich that provided an option of dunking and flavoring the baguette. The next time we return to Southside Super, we will try the Commoner's Rice and Spring Rolls. Food - 3 Service - 4 Ambiance - 3

Yelp
First-time visit to Southside Super at 11:30 am on a Sunday, and it exceeded expectations! Opted for takeout, tried the beef bulgogi Kimbap and spam kimbap - both fantastic. Although the beef bulgogi japchar was sold out, the overall experience was awesome. The small, clean, and simply decorated restaurant creates a cozy atmosphere. The friendly employee at the register made the transaction seamless. Paid $15.22 for a delightful meal; worth every penny. Excited to return and explore more menu items in the near future! Highly recommend. Next time I'll dine in and bring a friend!

Yelp
I've been meaning to try Southside Super for a long time - since Pizza Supreme Being gave them a shoutout on their IG! But haven't been able to go due to my work hours. My partner and I went their last minute yesterday (Saturday) and most things were sold out. I expected this since their food looked like it flew off the shelves when we went today (Sunday) but we got the Xiu Mai and GOOD GOOGLY MOOGLY! I haven't been able to find Xiu Mai here in Sac so it's been a few years since I ate it so I didn't know what to expect but it blew me away. It was a lovely texture, the tomato sauce/broth was delicious and the bread was so crispy but soft inside. The pickled veggies added to the sandwich gave a great contrast to the meatball and bread. I've usually only had Xiu Mai as bread on the side + the soup/meatballs to dip but after experiencing it as a sandwich; I don't think I want to go back to that way of eating it. Today we came in because they had sold out of the galbi jjim which is my partner and I's favorite Korean food; We got very lucky to get the last two galbi jjims too! Usually, we go all the way down to the Bay Area to Daeho but honestly? I prefer Southside Super's version. Southside's is still flavorful despite being light on the fatty parts of the rib. There's cute small rice cakes (that are PERFECT, not too mushy, not too hard/undercooked, just a nice bouncy consistency. Kimchi is great too. The people who work there are amazing and welcoming! Very patient with all the questions we had. I honestly can't wait until we get to order again - I'm still thinking about the Xiu Mai lol! (kimchi fried rice, pho and lemongrass chicken is on the list to try )

Yelp
Filling the shoes of the defunct Lo-Fi is Southside Super. And this place is not just a great alliteration. This place is a smart, well executed lunchery. While they do have items that are made to order, such as pho, they have a decent amount of pre-made items. and don't sleep on the pre-made items. The pork belly and quail egg I got was bee A utiful. The pickled greens were also a nice palate cleanser.

Yelp
The restaurant is very small mostly counter seating. The food is amazing! The have already made to go so it quick and tasty. If you want to stay and eat you can. I would take my tweens here they would love the food as I did. Go here you will love it!

Yelp
Parking: plenty of street parking Inside seating: small so it's limited but its super friendly so just sit next to a stranger and make a new friend. I love this place! Delicious foodbat reasonable prices. Love love their kimbap! Shrimp springroll is delicious, and the sauce is on point.

Yelp
I really like this spot! Really convenient grab and go style, but with also some good sit down stuff. The ambiance is minimalistic, but cute. My hubs got special bun rieu. He said it reminded him of Vietnam! I was definitely a fan. I grabbed a Spam kim bap as like a starter... I love Spam. The Vietnamese style meatball sando was delish. The service was nice, though mostly a self service kind of deal. Not bad for a grab and go style. I definitely appreciate that it's got a good mix of Korean and Vietnamese stuff. Cool spot.

Yelp
Southside super is a hole in the wall Vietnamese/Korean sit down restaurant, and it's unique in its concept of both quick grabs at the cold and hot deli area with made-to-order dishes as well. There is limited seating but surprisingly they did pretty well with the narrow space they had, and there were a decent amount of people seated. After seeing photos on Yelp, I really wanted to try the beef bulgogi kimbap and spicy pork box. However, I guess you have to arrive early because when I got there around 10:30am, they were already out of their vegetarian dosirak which was the closest menu item to the box, and there were only spam/fried tofu/tuna Mayo kimbap left. The other items available when I arrived were the Vietnamese pork belly commoner's rice, vegetarian spring rolls, and spicy chicken with corn cheese rice dish. I liked that they were constantly making fresh items and restocking, but I did wish there were more options. They also have made-to-order dishes, including the bun rieu, but I didn't try those this visit. The prices were fairly reasonable (Kim bap was $7, pork belly rice dish $11), and tax is already included. Overall it felt like I was eating a home cooked meal, which was nice. I would want to return when they have more items that I'd like to try.

Yelp
We were downtown for an appointment during the middle of a workday so we decided to stop by since their hours are very limited. It's a tiny little spot, looks like a cute retro diner. Not good for big groups, but a good place to get a quick lunch by yourself or one other person, or just to get takeout like we did. They have some items ready to go along the side wall, or you can dine-in and try their made to order dishes. The 4 stars is mainly for the fried tofu kimbap and the customer service. Otherwise would lean more towards 3 stars. Someone greeted us upon entering and she explained how their menu worked which was nice! We decided on the commoners rice plate in the warm food heater and beef and fried tofu kimbap. The kimbap was fairly priced since it was a generous size, but the flavor was not all there. Beef is usually our go-to but the one here was a bit lacking in flavor. The perilla leaf was overpowering and it just didn't have that familiar kimbap flavor, I think because it didn't have sesame oil. However the fried tofu one was our favorite, since it had that sweetness from the tofu skin and less of the perilla. The rice plate was okay, I liked the meat but there just wasn't a lot of it. Immediately when you open it, there's way more rice than meat and quail eggs. I did like the pickled veggies that came on the side though, which even tasted good with the kimbap. But overall I'd skip the rice plate since it was not enough for $11. Overall mixed experience. Not sure I'll be back, unless they change their hours or they have some kind of seasonal item that I'm interested in.

Yelp
I've waited a long time to try this place out. It's really the definition of a cute little spot. The place is not that big, but they made the most of the space they have. They have a diner seating next to the kitchen, as well as some small tables on the floor. They have hot food that you can grab on the go, but also you can order hot items from the kitchen. The ambience is comfy and cute. You can tell the owners put their passion in every food item, decoration, etc there. The egg salad sandwich was my favorite item. We got a few kimbaps. Although it wasn't the best kimbap I've ever had, they were solid and I appreciated the variety. You can't help but grab a few to try them. Overall, it's a great experience. I definitely will come back and order some items from the kitchen.

Yelp
Cute store, much smaller than I expected! Their menu is limited in options but they have something for everyone in the party, like vegetarian options! I got a bun rieu which I was actually very happy with! Great flavor, lots of ingredients (visible crab meat unlike other places I've been to before), and more than filling! Would love to come back to try other dishes they have!

Yelp
We stop for a quick lunch on a cold wet Saturday afternoon. Not knowing what to expect ... we were welcomed into a small place with small counter service and a few small tables if you wish to eat there. We opted to take to go. Friendly quick service. We picked a few items from the grab and go and ordered 1 hot - made to order dish. Sorry, I forgot to take the pictures once we arrived home . Delicious freshly made food. We had the Beef Bulgolgi Dosirak, Chicken Pho, Spam Kimbap, Tuna Mayo Kimbap and vegetable Japchae. Would recommend it if you need a quick fast lunch. Wish there was more room to dine in.

Yelp
This place is my new lunch fave! I've come here twice for lunch mid-week and it was so queasy and quaint! Once you get in there, there is some hot bad food available to grab and go or eat there. They also have a menu that you can browse for hot food. The staff was super helpful, kind and made some great recs! My only thing of note is that their stuff sells out, so get there quickly!

Yelp
I've been wanting to try this place for lunch for awhile now, and finally had the chance to go stop by to grab some goodies during my 30 min lunch break. I didn't have a lot of time so I only grabbed some of their kimbaps and egg salad sando. I got the beef bulgogi kimbap and the tuna kimbap both were delicious and filled with lots of goodies but my favorite was definitely the tuna mayo one. The egg salad sando was okay as I didn't care some of the ingredients in it but that's just me as I like my egg sandos kinda basic. Overall I can't wait to come back to try some of these other dishes especially the noodle soups.

Yelp
Food: I love that they have both hot deli case and food made-to-go options for their dishes. I also love how they offer two different cuisines here! I got the Dosirak/Spicy Pork ($16) hot deli case. The ground pork was sweet and wasn't really all that spicy. One thing I would have liked was more rice. The pork and rice ratio was a little off to me since the pork was very saucy. Other than that, I enjoyed my meal. I unfortunately wasn't full from their portions though. I can't wait to come back and try their food made-to-order dishes and their huge kimbap ($7) though! My friend ordered the Chicken Pho ($15) and said it was good, but there was nothing special about it. She too was not full from her meal. Overall, their food is good, but the prices are a little bit on the pricier side. Interior: The ambience and homey vibe is very cute! It's a small little spot for quick and easy food. Parking: There's a small parking lot and also free street parking. Service: You order at the cash register (straight down at the end of the shop; hidden behind the drinks fridge) first and then find a seat. The cashier was nice and friendly!

Yelp
So happy to have somewhere to get kimbap that the rest shouldn't matter, but it does! Tiny but uber cute space with grab and go style hot plates as well as freshly made to order special dishes. Bar seating and a row of two top tables as well. We enjoyed the vegetarian dosirak with marinated tofu, japchae, kimchi, quail eggs, and rice. We also tried two kimbaps: bulgogi beef with american cheese followed by tuna mayo. Delish and definitely worth getting up early for, once they sell out they are gone! Can't wait for a liquor license and some Vietnamese coffee. Right now they just have cans of water, juice, etc. We will be back for more!

Yelp
Finally had the chance to try this place because I love Bun Rieu and the pictures looked too good! It was sold out on Sunday around 1pm, but I had a chance to come back on Monday! Bun Rieu: 9/10!! The only cons about this dish is the price, the small amount of chicken, and also the amount of noodles as I believe if the price is high, there should be a good amount of noodles. But otherwise, the soup was so so delicious, and it tasted very clean with the tomato flavor. Traditionally bun rieu would have pork ribs, but this had chicken pieces. I loved the type of tofu they use because it soaks up the soup! Loved the veggie toppings, and the crab paste lumps were soft and tasty. Honestly it's good quality (not traditional but good) and I'd get it again! The service was really fast! The staff were kind, and I didn't have to wait too long for my order. The place is very small and tight, but they make it work! It's cute and modern, and I like the nice color scheme. The problem is just the size because I had to squeeze by people lol. But the place gives a comfortable setting.

Yelp
I got the spam kimbap. It was so yummy! I enjoyed it completely. I also got the kimchi rice with egg. Very good as well. I can't wait to try other items

Yelp
Love this cute little hole in the wall in Downtown! They have a few made-to-order items and a wall of grab and go items! The kimbap here is my favorite-- the beef bulgogi one is amazing! I love that they make their kimbap with shiso leaves, it really elevates the flavor. I've only had the kimbap here so I can't speak to the other items offered. I can't wait to come back to try their other offerings!

Yelp
We came and grabbed to go. I purchased the spam kimbap and the Vietnamese shrimp salad- goi tam. I love spam, but the perilla leaves strong flavor dominated. I would've preferred spinach. As for the salad, it has shredded cabbage and carrots, shrimp, and perilla leaves on top. Overall it was a refreshing salad. If I'm nearby, I'd like to try one of their rice plates next time.

Yelp
This is homemade Vietnamese and Korean comfort food, but don't get it twisted, it's not fusion. This is a quick lunch cafe serving up what your momma and grandma makes when the craving hits. Like you know it's gonna take a lot of work and time, but it's so tasty that you have to have it. Come here instead to save yourself some dishes and clean up. They also have a wonderful take out section stocked up. Whether it's a bento or a quick snack...there is something for everyone. I have been here on a few occasions already and bringing kimbap to a picnic party or a day out on the lake was absolutely perfect.

Yelp
This is a quaint little ready to go meal, quick bite stop. It has a parking lot, so you don't have to park on the street. Beware the inside is tiny, only sit at the bar, or two person tablesx3 This is an urban/fusion restaurant serving delicious vietnamese and korean type food. You had the option of getting premaid hot or cold foods. Or having a fresh cooked menu item. Menu is constantly changing, and is limited to only a few items at a time. So each time you go, it might be a nice surprise!

Yelp
Cute little lunch-counter spot in the neighborhood. We ordered the pho and the meatball sandwich and both were delicious!

Yelp
Writing this review I've been to this spot 3-4 times and never get disappointed. The decor of the restaurant and the design gives a very welcoming and comfortable feeling as you enter. There's a bar space that faces the kitchen and there are seats that align the wall. The staff is very friendly and always willing to help with your order. I've had the spam and tuna Kimbap (tuna being my favorite) the Kimbap is made fresh every time and is something I get every time I visit. Today we ordered the Spam Kimbap, egg sandwich and the Galbi Tang. Broth for the Galbi had a nice light taste. The meal came with rice, kimchi and a radish sauce that complimented the soup perfectly (recommended by one of the chefs). It's a great addition to Sacramento's eats and would highly recommend trying it out .

Yelp
First off.... Super southside location! Also......Cool, upbeat, modern, clean, fun environment....... Most important.... The food!!!!! yum!!!!..... if the chefs have a hazy gleam in their eyes, it's cause they're up at dawns crack cooking, shredding, peeling, tasting chicken I'm sure! If you haven't tried yet, WHO are you!! Get over there and fill your belly!!! Cheers!!!

Yelp
Such a cute mom and pop place! Recommend to go early because food runs out (came at 1pm once and they were out of everything, except for egg sandwiches and the Vietnamese meatballs). Loved their tuna mayo and beef bulgogi kimbap. Well rolled, generous on the contents and good flavor! Their galbi tang was also really good! The broth was flavorful and the meat was tender with generous portions. It is worth the price you pay. Would return again! I want to try the spam kimbap next time. I love that this place is right next to Taiwan Best Mart. My two fave Asian mom and pop stores right next to each other!

Yelp
Love their tuna kimbap. Just wish it had a little more mayo and bigger pieces of the pickled veg because it can be dry, and sometimes rolled a little loosely. Not going to stop getting them though!

-Clean and welcoming -Friendly Staff -Food was yummy and filling. Good portions, enough to share. Come early to avoid crowds. Soup menu changes often. You can call to see what they have left.
