"Founded in 1967, at a time when the Village was brimming with Spanish restaurants, some dating back to the Spanish Revolution, Spain was the smallest and most insignificant of the lot, and charming as a result." - Eater Staff

"It’s always nice to know about a few spots that still feel like New York 50 years ago, even if you weren’t here 50 years ago. Spain in the West Village is one of those places. The grumpy, 80-year-old Spanish bartenders who pour sangria all night and give out free tapas - yes, free tapas - are the same people who opened the bar/restaurant in 1966. Post up with your friends in the small front bar, order some Spanish beers, and patiently wait for patatas bravas, mini meatballs in a delicious tomato sauce, or whatever else the kitchen decides to send out." - Bryan Kim

One of the best Spanish restaurants I have been to. It is not fancy, and rather more rustic and authentic. The food quality is amazing and strangely for Spanish restaurant, so is the portion size. The service is good. You get complimentary salad, meatballs and muscles for starter. The Paella and the lamb ribs were phenomenal.

4 star for value! Free tapas (chorizo, mussels, meatballs.) 21 dollars for paella Valencia which serves easily 3 pax. Dont expect refined dining; Expect home styled presentation and taste. I wished their sangria had a bit more punch.

It has a very homie atmosphere with friendly staffs. Everytime I visit I get the Paella. One Paella serves two people. I love the tapas as well. Just make sure you get all the tapas because sometimes they do forget to bring some out for you! Also don't forget to bring cash!!!

Ok Paella. This restaurant has been around for a very long time and it looks like it on the inside. Some might say it adds to the charm, others might say it looks dirty - especially the back room. Nice portions and some tasty free apps are served by friendly staff.

A classic! Entering into this space is like walking back in time. The long hallway had a bar on the left, tables on the right and all the way straight leads to a white walled cave with paintings and sculptures surrounding you. This place has been here my entire life! I asked the waiter and it's been here since 1966. The waiters are gray and weathered and durable. Kind and familial too. They give you free appetizers, delicious apps like sausage, meatballs and mussels. The paella is so authentic the clams speak Spanish. Overflowing plates, scents, tastes and delicious fragrances too! You will laugh and smile and leave full!! Here's to another 52 years for Spain!!!

Always a fantastic experience with high quality Tapas, entrees, and drink selections. Fantastic to bring a group and to practice your "Español" in a romantic and "step back in time" venue. Highly recommend getting a pitcher of the Sangria which is delicious. Don't forget to bring cash, and if you have forgotten, there's a ATM steps away on the corner.

My favorite restaurant! Been going there for almost 20 years. The food is amazing!

We enjoyed the paella with lobster, clams and mussels and shrimp. A bit too salty but the tapas were very good. We shared one meal and still had too much for us to eat.
