"Deeply loved by longtime regulars, many of whom have their pictures lining the walls, Spanish Village has been a cornerstone of the Third Ward serving some of Houston’s best Tex-Mex for over 70 years. Between whimsical string lights shaped like chile peppers, and sunshine pouring in through their huge windows, the inside of Spanish Village is lighthearted, inviting, and has cheeriness built into the walls. This is the sort of restaurant that could bring a smile out of anyone. If sentiment alone isn’t enough to get you here, there are also juicy beef fajitas, cheese and onion enchiladas smothered in rich gravy, and decadent chile con queso (add molina to make it spicy). The service is in no rush, so come here when you have time to burn—you’re probably going to need some extra time to babysit one of their very strong margaritas, anyway. photo credit: Richard Casteel photo credit: Richard Casteel photo credit: Richard Casteel photo credit: Richard Casteel Food Rundown photo credit: Richard Casteel Chile Con Queso (With Carne Molida) The chile con queso at Spanish Village is some of our favorite in the city. It’s just the right amount of gooey and is the reason we need several tortilla chip refills throughout our meal. And for the true super spice soldiers, we suggest adding in carne molida (and jalepeños) for maximum heat and flavor. photo credit: Richard Casteel Beef And Chicken Fajitas We’re thankful that Spanish Village doesn’t make us choose between the beef and chicken fajitas. The beef is tender with a touch of sweetness, the char on the chicken is perfectly crisp, and when both are nuzzled together in a flour tortilla, we wonder how we ever ate them apart. photo credit: Richard Casteel El Clásico Enchiladas Some things are classics for a reason. If we had to guess, we’d say the el clàsico enchiladas earned their name for being a spicy, beefy delight that’s covered in a blanket of melted cheddar cheese. It also comes with rice and refried beans which make great tools for scooping up Tex-Mex gravy runoff." - Gianni Greene

Vibe- This is a big colorful building on the outside and inside! I love the tables, they have a mosaic tile look and it gives me Spanish vibes for sure. There’s so many tables, I counted about 35-40 tables; some small and a few larger ones. Customer service- Great, the staff was very friendly and helpful! Food/drinks- I got chips and salsa to start, enchiladas with the beyond meat, and a side salad. I also ordered a mango margarita. Everything was delish! I specifically came here because I saw that they offer vegan options. There isn’t a printed menu but you can get tacos, a quesadilla, or nachos; mostly with beyond meat, lettuce, and tomatoes. Parking- I parked on the street where there was a sign saying no parking 4-6pm (I went around 2 pm). I could imagine parking being difficult at busy times

***REVIEW WAS FOR SPANISH/LITTLE VILLAGE BEFORE NEW OWNERSHIP REMOVED THE VEGAN MENU*** I love this place. The atmosphere is very inviting and the staff including the owner are so friendly and personable. The staff remembered me after my FIRST visit despite me getting a full hair-do change in between my first and second visits. The vegan menu here is amazing! I love breakfast tacos and the price for both quality and quantity is excellent. Every time I get the munchies late at night I crave their chorizo, just egg and potato tacos!! 😻 I’d like to address one of the only bad reviews here by a woman named Joy. She is largely known in the vegan community to be a horrible nag. It is a disappointment that a schoolteacher in Pasadena would be such a gross, disrespectful and entitled person towards our local vegan businesses, especially at one as pleasant as Spanish Village!

I love that this place has a dedicated vegan menu in addition to their standard menu. There were many options that sounded appetizing so I had a hard time choosing. I went with the vegan Motherclucker burrito and it was delicious! I did wish it came with a sauce on the side but I liked that it wasn’t a standard burrito. My company got the 2 beef tacos with impossible meat (and regular cheese) and the vegan impossible beef enchiladas. Happy faces all around! Especially after a Ferrero Rocher cake slice!

Heard this place was closing and never ate here. Lots of people are upset so I decided to give it a try. It wasn’t bad. But not good either. I ordered some pork verde enchiladas. Had a weird twang. Customer service was meh. Never got a refill and had to hunt someone down to pay. Maybe they were good back in the day and I just tried them too late.

Everything had great flavor! The charro beans were the best. The drinks were fire. So good. The quesadilla was cheesy and filled with fajita meat. The fajita plate was awesome. We will definitely be back.

Made my first visit to the long time Third Ward establishment a few weeks ago. After living in Houston for 39 years I finally got up the courage to give them a try. I hate to be disappointed by bad Tex-Mex food... Good thing I was not disappointed! I went for Sunday brunch. I had the breakfast enchiladas. The texture was not what I expected, but was very delicious non the less. I was very pleased that the refried beans were vegetarian friendly. I really enjoy the chips and salsa. The salsa was not the typical deep red sauce one would expect. It was a radish broth color, but full of flavor. And the coffee by local roaster, Katz, was really good. I'm looking forward to making another visit soon. It didn't bother me that there were few people there (though that sort of goes against the Tex-Mex cultural vibe).

I have never tried all the years living in 3rd Ward. I heard it was under new ownership. That day 12-21-21 I was in a car accident afterwards hungry and frustrated about the incident. I decided get something to eat. I went in talked to ladies that severed me. I told them what happened. They gave me a margarita 🍹 to calm my nerves. It was probably the best margarita Ive have ever had. The ladies was extremely nice and friendly. We discussed what happen to them after covid. I took my food home. My family has ordered there almost six times since then. We love Spanish Village. My daughter really does. She loves Mexican food. Please try you wont be disappointed. The food is fresh, prices are reasonable, and staff is great. The new manger takes good care of the restaurant. Black owned establishment

Visited recently and got the Sunbelt plate which was very good. They may have a new cook now because this was the best meal I got there in the last 10 years. The salsa there is more of just a hot sauce but even it was a little thicker which was a step up from the watery sauce before. I was impressed and satisfied. If they could get all the girls to come out of their gossip circle and watch the customers more they could probably get back on track again.

Yelp
I heard this place was closing, so I wanted to give it a go before its final closing. Definitely neighborhood charm, old timey biilding. There's a small parking lot down the side street. Limited street parking otherwise. Service- was fine. There was only a few groups for early Sat evening. Server was kind, she had a nice smile, offered suggestions. Drink-they didn't have a drink menu per se, server just informed they had house and Mango Rita's. The house Rita was fair, it was $8.95. The ice in it looked bit sketchy, kind of dirty, I took those pieces out, and just kept the cocktail. Food- I got the chicken quesdilla, $16.95. You do get guac, sour cream, Pico with the meal. Guac was ok. Lots of chicken pieces, and large portion. But not enough cheese to chicken ratio. It also was fair. I would come back, but only for happy hour pricing only. The price points doesn't match the food, but I understand - inflation am I right?!

Yelp
Always great Tex-Mex at reasonable prices. But now they appear to be closed. So sad! Good Bye!

Yelp
The food is amazing. So sorry that I heard they closed. It was a good spot to hang out

Yelp
Spanish Village is currently the oldest Tex-Mex restaurant in Houston, but up to last month, I had never gone even though I've lived nearby in the last four years. I had perused reviews and the menu online prior to the change in ownership and was put off by the then high prices and lukewarm reviews. The pandemic changed things when I noticed that the restaurant offered a discount to health care workers for carryout orders, an offer I still haven't taken advantage of since I prefer dining in after a long day or night of work. The menu's prices also seemed lower. The new ownership also initiated a vegan menu and made clear that their vegetable dishes were not cooked with animal fat, which I appreciated. You also don't finish the meal constantly thirsty afterwards from the lard used in other tex-mex restaurants.. So I've eaten here several times over the past month. Service is slow during weekdays in that they only have two people in the front of the house, (a host/waitress and a busser). You should not try to eat here if you are on a lunch break because they make a lot of the food to order and it shows in terms of taste. I haven't tried their vegan menu yet, but their vegetarian enchilada options are delicious even if they may not all be on the menu. The spinach enchiladas share the same red chile gravy sauce as the cheese enchiladas. However, the waitress offered me a poblano cream green sauce option for my last spinach enchiladas order. She then came back 5 minutes later and noted that they ran out of spinach but had a spinach/mushroom mix available which confused me. Guess they do have some prep work before hand. The change in sauce and fillings made the best vegetarian enchiladas I have had in Houston, and it's not even in the menu. It was mostly the green sauce that did it. It was not too rich and had a surprising tart because I was not expecting a tomatillo base.

Yelp
A great option for Tex-Mex on Almeda. The food was very good. They do have vegan options, though not on their physical menu so be sure to ask! The salsa has got a good kick to it and the frozen margarita was delicious. We ordered their nachos, enchilada, and quesadillas all made vegan. The interior was filled with cute decorations and a fun picture wall. Plenty of parking in the lot across the restaurant.

Yelp
We came for desert and after a few tries found the main entrance in the side street. Wow. The wonderful smell of saffron filled the air. Delicious. We dined in and had a wonderful time over coffee that was truly amazing. (I would buy it if it was packaged for sale. I asked, and it is only brewed for sale) The two deserts were heavenly and just right. Not overly sweet. This establishment sits up high off the road and the building may have been another establishment based on the architecture. Never mind. Come for the home comfortable feel. Service was excellent. I can't wait to return to sample their entrees. A short walk from Reggae Hut. Worth your time!

Yelp
We recently ordered breakfast takeout from here and all I have to say is VEGAN MIGAS. Vegans - get you some ASAP! They're pricier than the regular migas and they're made from "Just Eggs," but they were quite tasty! I mean, could I have just made them myself? Sure. But food is never as delicious when you make it yourself, or is that just me? The migas come with a couple of tortillas, refried beans, and potatoes as well. A nice hearty vegan breakfast, which isn't the easier thing to come across in Houston. My husband also enjoyed his regular migas and our toddler was pretty happy to feast on the fluffy pancakes. We had never previously dined at Spanish Village, despite living very close to it for a couple of years, but we'll have to make it a priority once this pandemic is more "handled."

Yelp
Very nice quiet intimate place. Wasn't expecting much, however surprisingly delicious. Margaritas are strong. Young lady this made them does a great job. Fajitas were unexpectedly amazing. I will diffidently return

Samantha M.

Yelp
Went to this place over the weekend (twice) with a friend visiting from out of town. She is vegan and this place has a vegan menu with plenty to choose from. Food was tasty! And piping hot! She really enjoyed her vegan burrito and my enchiladas were delicious. It's rare to find a place with seasoned rice but this place managed to deliver! Also had a margarita that was strong and tasty! I think it was made in a blender and not a premix machine. Would definitely go back. Only gave it 4 stars due to the service being a little slow but really liked this place.

Vicky H.

Yelp
The food and service were horrible. The fajitas were tough and lukewarm, I had to send them back. They took the tough fajita meat back to the kitchen and brought me unseasoned chicken. The service was even worse. I was so excited to eat there because of the reviews. Please skip this place. It is not worth the visit. There are loads of restaurants in the area to chose from. The ambiance is old and out dated.

Yelp
100! Two Thumbs Up! Five Stars! What an incredible first-time experience at the Spanish Village Restaurant! First off, it was so lovely to get to dine-in! =] This place is GREAT! Love the vibe & atmosphere, very clean and roomy. They even have their own Vegan Menu, that's what I'm talking about!! Customer service was on point; a young man, who seemed to be a manager was accommodating, pleasant, and attentive. He and the chef were sincere on how we felt about the plant-based options. It was an excellent experience! He shared that they create their own queso and sauce from scratch; that's pretty rare, especially for a place that is not solely vegan. We had the -Enchiladas; I usually wouldn't get this, but it's rare to find a place with brown gravy. -Quesadillas -Chips & Queso -Chocolate chip cookies COVID Notes -At the time, dining was available. -The order was effortless, quick, & accurate. -Excellent customer service, masks were required, staff wore masks and gloves. -Limited seating capacity. We had plenty of comfortable space. -No issues at all. So good, we can't wait to go back! Thank you, Spanish Village Restaurant, for the Vegan Options!

Ingrid C.

Yelp
Since 1953 still got the best margaritas in the city of Houston! With still someone of its original recipes. Love the atmosphere so bright. The staff is so friendly and the service is excellent.

Gabrielle E.

Yelp
I was in the mood for tacos and had read good reviews on Yelp but I'm disappointed. The chicken looks like Tyson frozen chicken cubes, is bland, and a little chewy. Maybe it's bc I ordered for delivery (via doordash) but there was literally only chicken on the taco. There was a side dish of pico de Gallo and guacamole so I added those on there but still had to add adobo for flavor. The rice is okay but the refried beans are good and it came with chips & salsa.

Larry E.

Yelp
We have been reading all the press releases about this place being in business for 70 years. I don't think the owners were prepared for the business that it would bring to them. They were very under staffed. We went about 1:30pm on a Saturday. There was a line at the door any most of the tables were empty. Many of the people in line left after about a 20 min wait. We stuck it out because we really wanted to try it. There was only one server, busboy and a person taking to go orders. But the one smart thing they were doing was not to seat more tables than they could service. Our service once seated was slow but efficient. The food was excellent. Our server did her best to take care of many task. She was amazing.

Sue H.

Yelp
We have been coming to this restaurant for decades, and enjoyed our relationship with the original owners and their food. After it was sold to the second owners, we would try again, but we're always disappointed. The current (third) owners have done themselves proud: food is better than ever! We had a fantastic waiter, the margaritas were back on point, and both dishes we ordered were impeccably presented and prepared. I don't know what's going to happen to this place in the long run, but I certainly hope you will patronize it enough to keep it going so we can continue to enjoy the amazing dining experience it currently offers.

Yelp
First impressions of this restaurant exterior: "Man, this place looks old and extremely out-dated. I see a lot of cars in the parking lot and parked on the street, so it must be packed!" First impressions of this restaurant interior: "Wow, why is it so dark in here?" "It is dated on the inside", "There is literally not a lot of people in here." "Well, at least there isn't any old mildew moldy smell, it does smell like the power of pine-sol!" It was a Saturday night around 8 pm, my family and friend arrived at the Spanish Village. It rare that an almost Clear Lake family like mines would even get out into Houston to dine at a Midtown restaurant. but what the heck, drink orders of 2 margaritas, specified a water with 3 lemons, and a lemonade with no ice. When our drinks came: my water had no lemons. I later read on the menu that it would be an extra charge for lemons in water. OK fine. My dad and sister weren't a fan of the margaritas as they said, "it wasn't enough alcohol and funny tasting." So, our waitress brought out stronger margarita for my dad since she couldn't believe that my dad didn't like it. Then, food orders: I got the vegetarian dinner to be on the safe side of avoiding meals with meat and confusion with ordering. My dad got the beef fajita plate, and my friend got the chalupa plate. The first meal that arrived at the table were the sides for my vegetarian plate - what looked like a mess on a plate. The presentation wasn't there. A taco bowl upside down drenched in processed nacho cheese with a guacamole taco swimming in the cheese and tomatoes/lettuce. The food looked bad and wasn't worth the price of $16. The cheese got cold quick and the guac taco was ice cold too. The guac didn't taste fresh, it tasted more like 4 days old. The other side plate of guac, limes, and a salad was a waste as I didn't have anything to put it on. I was extremely disappointed at this point. I wished my group got up and left because it was bad! But instead, we stayed and endured more horrific food and presentations. Then, everyone's food arrived. I couldn't even fully mask what my meal was because the presentation of the food was so sloppy. My vegetarian dinner lacked a lot of flavors - it was very bland. Again, there was an abundance of melted cheese in my meal that wasn't necessary, but an annoyance to deal with while attempting to eat. No tofu, no vegetables stuffed enchiladas, or quesadillas, nothing but enchiladas wrapped within itself covered in brown sauce and cheese. The Spanish rice was the only thing that was good and authentic tasting. The food arrived on a very hot plate, but why did the food get cold quick? My dad said that was the worst fajitas that he ever had - he didn't even finish his meal. I couldn't even finish the meal, no spices or anything. Everyone at the table was dissatisfied with their meals - it was nasty. Even the chips and salsa was bad. The chips were brought out in a plastic basket without a lining, they were bland, no salt to taste, and got cold quick. The salsa was soupy watered down, not chunky. The atmosphere of the restaurant was a mix between a family room with Polaroid pictures everywhere posted on the walls, Mexican fare, and Christmas lights everywhere. They need to really make their minds up. Our waitress was nice and attentive but strange. My sister would ask her a question about getting another alcoholic beverage, but our waitress would only always discuss it with my dad. My sister is an adult - also she told my friend that there weren't any refills on lemonade after he ordered it. She never brought out my lemon for my water. She only seemed very interested in talking to my dad about what we needed. Very strange. Now it was time to pay, and was the bill a nightmare, yes it was! $93 for a crappy meal - not worth it! Our waitress charged us for a margarita that she wanted my dad to get, so that should have been taken off the bill and out of her paycheck. The prices are outrageously expensive for the quality of the food. This experience reminded me of an episode of Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares because it truly was a nightmare dining experience attempting to eat this disgusting food. Papagayos is so much better than this restaurant. Oh, and the complimentary Mexican pralines were good. My friend said that was the only thing good about this restaurant. No muy bien!

Erin G.

Yelp
Little Village is the best. The environment is authentic, calming, and cute. The vegan food menu is INSANELY incredible. Best vegan queso I've ever had. They have an off menu item sometimes which is the vegan Gordita crunch based off of Taco Bell's, but obviously WAY better. The staff is always kind and on point.

Heidi T.

Yelp
I'm so mad I've lived in Houston my whole life and I just went here for the first time because it was delicious. (note: this review is for the vegan menu) I'm not a vegan but I like to consciously reduce my animal product consumption. Spanish Village's vegan menu is really impressive! I got the chik'n quesadilla and a cookie and it was all great. The 'cheese' was melty and creamy without being overly greasy. And the fresh baked cookie.... y'all. I don't know what on earth they put in these vegan cookies but they perfectly balanced the line between soft/melty and chewy/crispy. It smelled so good in my car, it was gone by the time I got home. Curbside pickup was quick and easy even during the lunch rush. Will be back.

Mark A.

Yelp
Was really looking for some good vegan food after hearing word of mouth that they had a separate vegan menu. Apparently they removed it recently. Hope they bring it back.

Mike P.

Yelp
The Spanish Village Restaurant is located on Almeda Rd, just south of 59 and west of 288. If you are looking for authentic Tex-Mex, from one of the oldest in the country... then you must take a trip to this historic Houston landmark. Spanish Village has been around since 1953 and is the 2nd oldest Tex-Mex restaurant in Houston. At Spanish Village you are literally eating with history. When you walk into the restaurant you are immediately taken back to the times when life was bit simpler. You can just feel the vibe and it's amazing. The walls are filled with pictures of patrons from the past... some are celebrities, and some are just Houstonians who have been enjoying this original Tex-Mex for years. I grew up in Houston and lived here for over 25 years. I had always heard about this classic restaurant, but this was my first time to experience it for myself. I have to say it was an experience like no other. I am a true believer in letting the server, chef or owner decide on what you should try when visiting their restaurant. I mean who know best, right? That is exactly what I did. After speaking with the owner, he let me know the menu I needed to taste. Of course, we started things off with one of their famous Margarita's, which by the way is a secret recipe with only three ingredients: triple sec, tequila, and fresh squeezed lime juice. Nothing more, nothing less. This Margarita is something special and shame on you if you don't order at least one. However, you might only need one. Strong is an understatement. Ha! Seriously. We ordered the Chile con Queso, Stuffed Jalapenos, Fun Guy Fajitas, Cheese & Onion Enchilada Con Huevo, Molletes or Puffy Tacos, Guacamole and Original Fajitas. I have to say that every menu item we tried was even better than the last, but my two favorites were the Cheese & Onion Enchilada Con Huevo and the Puffy Tacos. If you like cheese... well, you can't go wrong with either of these entrees. The Cheese & Onion Enchilada Con Huevo is a house favorite here at Spanish Village and I was soon to find out why. To begin with, Cheese Enchiladas are my favorite menu item at just about any Mexican restaurant I venture out to. The Cheese & Onion Enchilada Con Huevo however, has a nice touch that I had never experienced. These wonderful Cheese Enchiladas are topped with 2 eggs. As you cut into the eggs, the yummy yolk drips down the side of the Enchiladas and with every bite, you receive a flavor that you just can't get enough of. If you are a fan of Cheese Enchiladas, then you must try this terrific dish. Next up was cheese, cheese and more cheese! And that is music to my ears. The Puffy Tacos are pretty much perfect. These hand rolled tacos are simply a piece of art. They are carefully fried to perfection, filled with Chicken or Beef fajitas, swamped with their famous queso made daily, and then garnished with a little bit of onion, tomato and cilantro. I must say that this is now my go-to dish, here at Spanish Village. Every bite you take of this cheesy delight makes you wonder if you will ever eat a taco any other way. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. I think Tex-Mex might be my favorite cuisine. Growing up here in the Lone Star State, you are raised on it. While there are many Tex-Mex restaurants that are great here in Houston, Spanish Village stands out for sure. Not only do they have outstanding eats, but the history and ambiance put it over the top. When you visit Spanish Village, make sure to take some time to walk around and take it all in. You will be glad you did, and it will provide you with the full experience. Enjoy!

Yelp
The food is decent. The service is excellent. We loved Arturo! He was amazing! I asked for a hot cocoa and got served the most amazing hot cocoa ever! I was with two girlfriends and it was chilly outside. We ordered the fajita combo plate and it was good. We really enjoyed it and our chill setting. The Astros were playing so they didn't have a big crowd but that is to be expected. This is a cool neighborhood spot! If you're local definitely stop by!

Michael M.

Yelp
It's time to go back to Spanish Village! They have a new owner, and they are putting some great stuff on the menu. They still have the old classics, but try some of "new menu" items for the good stuff. The molletes we really good. I like the Strawberry Guava Rita. Their Tres Leches is really something special. It's amazing. I think it's the best in the city. They also have really friendly staff.

Danielle R.

Yelp
Love their vegan menu! We got the large Chile con queso, beyond beef enchiladas and numero 25. Very delicious. Really enjoyed the queso! Next time, I can't wait to try the breakfast!

William M. G.

Yelp
This place has reopened and is better than before, and they were good before. They have refined the menu with more regional dishes, added new salsas and brightened up the interior. Food 5. Chili rellenos excellent, chicken enchiladas Suisse excellent. So glad they have a tomatillo sauce here. Warm roasted veg/chipotle salsa really good. Avocado salsa good as well. Fajitas are solid. Bev 5. Margs are just as good as before. Service 5. Always polite and helpful answering questions. Please come by and give them a try again, especially all the regulars. They are great!

Yelp
We found this wonderful gem in Houston a few months ago, we absolutely just love this place. It is one of the oldest tex-mex resturant I'm houston. Had a great discussion with the new owner Abi, this a truly one of the best place to eat and visit. If this don't change your mind, there food is all fresh. Beans, rice and meats are prepared in the mornings. That is what gets me, fresh beans and a good margarita.

DeWayne R.

Yelp
3/15/2018 - I'm so glad that they allow us to update these reviews. OK, so we'd been out with the kids for Spring Break and Mexican Food was on our minds. I suggested this place, because it was in the neighborhood that I grew up in, and - as far as I can recall - the food was good. So, it was two adults, two kids (under 12) and one toddler. We've done this combo at restaurants before. The place was pretty much empty, save us and two other tables. Maria, the waitress, took our drink orders, as we perused the menu and chomped on chips and salsa (which was pretty good; spicy and lukewarm). Soon after that, a tall, young, dark complected guy in a t-shirt, shorts, and flip-flops came by and asked to take our drink order. We informed him that the waitress had already taken the order. After a couple of attempts to get our food order, Maria returned and we finally placed our food order. The boys got kids tacos, I got beef enchiladas, and Michelle got cheese enchiladas. I asked Maria how long she'd worked at the restaurant and she said 13 years (the restaurant has been around for 63 years). I asked who the guy was, who'd come by early was and she said that the restaurant had changed owner/management, about three weeks ago and he was the new owner. I asked if he was Latin and she mentioned that he was of Indian decent. I was just asking. Our food came, just as my younger sister walked in. She immediately ordered a margarita and beef enchiladas. We noticed that the enchiladas were quite small and the beans, as well as the rice, was a little overcooked. We were starving, so we soldiered through the experience, until my son almost cracked his tooth on a nice sized bone that he found in his chicken taco. I let the owner know and he had another taco made. My sister's margarita came in the tiniest martini glass I've ever seen Then....the check came! Even with my son's taco taken off of the check, AND the fact that my sister's meal and drink (she was the only one who ordered an alcoholic drink) was not a apart of our check, the total was right at $90. The tip brought it closer to $100. Oh, and to cap it off, when Maria picks up checks from tables, she does it WHILE customer is still at the table AND she looks at the tip, immediately. Tiss, tiss! I would figure someone who has been in food service long enough would know that you wait until the customer leaves to do either of those things. I've paid less for far better food!!! I've tasted better food that cost less!!! I've had my last meal from this place!!!

Yelp
Can't believe that after living in the Museum Park area for over a decade and have never been to Spanish Village restaurant. We went last night with our wonderful neighbors, and were blown away with the lovely, "Mom and Pop" neighborhood vibe. The years of history was evident by thousands of Polaroid pictures stapled across their walls. For vegetarians and vegans, they have a separate menu dedicated to vegan dishes made with "beyond" meats...WHAT IS GOING ON?! At a Mexican restaurant??? Wow...the people there were so kind and thankful for our business. Their food and Margaritas were on point (I got drunk off half of the margarita). Do yourself and your neighbors a favor, host a neighborhood party at Spanish Village. Get to know one another, and maybe we can all add our pictures to their "wall".

Yelp
Based purely on the outpouring of positive nextdoor.com reviews my daughter and I ate at the Spanish Village tonight (3rd July). I'm delighted to report the good reports are well placed - staff were excellent, the manager Dyan was very engaging, food was great and the house margarita was thankfully fresh and free from sugary mistakes (just tequila, lime juice and triple sec). Ignore the building exterior (you ain't eating it or dating it) get inside, sit down and enjoy this significantly revitalized museum park staple! Extra info - happy hour is from 2 to 7 Tuesday through Friday. House margaritas are $4! Restaurant closed on a Monday and Sunday is only for Brunch from 11 to 2. All other days (Tuesday through Saturday) restaurant is open from 11 to 9...

Yelp
SPANISH VILLAGE IS OPEN!!!!!!!! Was so glad a few weeks ago that I called to check on reopening. Well they had been reopened for 3 weeks. My Husband and I went and everything was great. The menu is a little different, but everything was tasty. They, at the time, we're still waiting on their new liquor permit, but they gave us a complimentary margarita. If you were a fan of this Houston landmark, get there and EAT!

Yelp
Reasons to come here: 1. Come here if you want to be insulted. 2. Come here if you like to be treated like a child even though you're of age. 3. Come here if you want on a scale to 1 to 5, 5 being highest of nastiest food and 1 being mediocre. 4. Come here if you're desperate and want a taste of what none fresh to order tastes like. 5. Come here if you're looking to spend money on not so great food. This place is CRAP! Literally the bottom of the chum bucket if plankton owned a Mexican restaurant this would be it. It is the worst of the worst that I've eaten at. The waitress will insult you and treat you like a child. Because having "good" genes doesn't exist to her. So, even though I'm legally 24 years old she still persisted to ask my father permission whether I can have alcoholic beverages. This went on for awhile. Where I kept asking our waitress for an alcoholic beverage and she referred to my father. Even though, she ID me and accepted it. That's not only insulting, but irritating too! The waitress even had the nerve to question my father whether if he is an alcoholic or not because he said his margarita wasn't strong enough. She continues to tell us that the frozen margaritas are left in the freezer for months for preparation. Months?! After hearing that I didn't want one. My father didn't even ask for a frozen margarita instead he asked for 2 coronas and the waitress still brought it out. Because she wanted him to try it, it was out of her will, but we was still billed for it. The food was a horrendous mess that shouldn't even have left the kitchen. From the menu the regular dinner sounded great, but the presentation was far from making it. A flipped upside down tortilla bowl with nacho cheese drenched on top and a pool of it all on the plate with a taco shell non seasoned ground beef which appeared similarities to Taco Bell taco flooding in it all. I had to ask myself where am I at Taco Bell or at an expensive restaurant that supposedly been in business for some years now? It was terrible, that my father was invited here by his customer Justin and for his customer to lie and say this is the best Mexican restaurant in Midtown. Yeah right, he must be delirious so must his co-workers and manager too! What topped it off was that our ignorant waitress brought out praline candy topped with an old strawberry for what a terrible meal we encountered?!?! What's the point of bringing out meals separately when it's apart of entire meal? So, while 2 people at our table wait patiently for their food the other 2 sit at the table and enjoy their first course meal. What's the point?! If you come here don't stay for awhile leave immediately there is nothing here to patronize just another restaurant that's struggling to make payments and to serve fresh food.

Yelp
I'm gonna try to sugar coat this review.I came here at the request of my vegan wife to try there vegan menu because she saw great reviews. Nothing great to see here. One compliment though the salsa was ok. Service was more like waitlist for our table and another table. The staff was slow and the food was not good in our opinion. The restaurant has potential but as it sits is no bueno

Yelp
Today going to pick up my already ordered to-go order in the pouring rain, I learned my fav vegan menu item (cheese and onion enchiladas) is no longer available and I would have to choose something else - I didn't. When I last ordered, I was told I was the only person who orders this which makes sense considering it was only advertised maybe once last September BUT not as a limited time item so I continued ordering it. I'm sure other vegans would order it if they knew it existed especially those of us who aren't a fan of beyond/impossible/chi'ken products. It was nice having a non faux meat option and hopefully this review gets to the right person and it's added back and advertised appropriately.

Yelp
This restaurant is not glamorous from the outside, but the food is okay. I picked up dinner for my family. The best part of me stopping by today was the food was ready in a few minutes. I stopped by this restaurant because my mother wanted me to stopped by. She remembers when the restaurant was vibrant and probably had a 5 star rating.

Yelp
The BEST fried chicken! Literally, best I've had. No lie. It takes a while to cook because they make it to order, so order yourself a margarita (they're strong ) and maybe some queso, and patiently wait to consume crispy crusty crunchy fried chicken with an extraordinarily decadent baked potato on the side. Service is ok. I've never had the Mexican food, but the margs, pollos, and pappas estancia bueno!

Yelp
I dig the old Mexican restaurant feel to the place. I come regularly to eat the enchiladas Taylor with two fried eggs on top. You can't compare the enchiladas at your corporate places to these enchiladas. Nice margaritas as well.

Yelp
Yummy! We tried this place after reading about their new brunch and owners. The building is a little dated but the brunch and service was fantastic. I would definitely come back.

Yelp
Spanish Village is probably my favorite texmex restaurant in Houston. It feels truly unique and has a homey, vintage feeling that I love. It feels like a time capsule of a texmex restaurant from another era, and I hope that never changes. I think the restaurant has a new owner, but it seems like all the things I love about it have stayed the same! The classics are still on the menu, but they've added new specials that are also delicious. You still get a complimentary praline with your bill! The polaroids of regulars are still up on the wall. I recommend trying the frozen "ice shards" (I think that was the phrasing?) margarita--it is unique, delicious, and a great value. I hope Spanish Village stays in business and true to its spirit for years to come.

Yelp
I discovered this place while on a weekend trip to Houston. My friends and I love great food and new experiences. We were drawn to the Spanish Village because of its rustic, intimate appearance. The dining room was decorated with bright colors and Polaroids of customers throughout decades which gave it a home-like feeling. Their menu is filled with flavorful options and wait staff was very helpful with explaining the featured items. I love Tex-Mex food, the Spanish Village has some of the best I've ever tasted. We were fortunate enough to meet the new owner of the establishment who was very welcoming and kind. He recommended we try the tres leches; it was the best I've ever had, hands down. I highly recommend.

Yelp
Service was incredible. Food was amazing. The atmosphere was also wonderful. Our server Eulogia was incredibly sweet and welcoming. Dayne the manager was also very inviting. He was greeting every table. If I owned a place, I would hire both of them on the spot. Pro tip: FRIED CHICKEN. Seriously. I wouldn't have ordered it just walking into any given Mexican restaurant, but we took a gamble on it. MONEY

Yelp
Had dinner on a Friday night with friends. They recommended the 1/2 fried chicken. Said it was better than Barbecue Inn. Allow 25 minutes for cooking. Fine with that. Service was spotty at best. Had to go and get a waiter a couple times to refill drinks and chips. Chicken arrived. It had been cremated. Crust came off in one hunk on most pieces. What was left on the bones was shriveled, dried out meat. No seasoning either. And at $18, I won't go back.

Yelp
Had an enjoyable time. The queso was great, the guacamole was fantastic, and the salsa was just right. It's a lot better than the chain Tex-Amex places.

Yelp
Food was good. Service was good. Price was reasonable. The manager(s) were really friendly. It kind of looks scary from the outside, but I felt perfectly safe in the area. Plenty of parking during the day which is a plus in this neighborhood. I don't live close, but would return if I'm in the vicinity for sure.

Yelp
We went back last Friday for the Fried Chicken, It was AWESOME. The margaritas were just like before, maybe even better. The enchiladas were super. Also the Miller Platter still is the best way to start the evening. So glad that they are back

Yelp
Some of us were raised if you have nothing good to say, don't say anything at all. Well, yelp requires me to put in at least this much!

Yelp
I haven't had the whole menu but the enchiladas are yummy. Thats my usual when I go there. Ive been here for myself and also when I run for Favor and I can honestly say this place is a gem. The owner was super nice he has come out to greet me on every order. Great customer service goes a long way. Thank You Spanish Village !!!

Yelp
Fantastic food and the service always goes above and beyond to ensure you are taken care of. The carne asada is a must try, and some of the best margs you'll find in houston. No frills or gimmicks needed here, just down home well made Mexican food!

Mary Ann M.

Yelp
This place is AWESOME! They have a full vegan breakfast and lunch menu that is the best Mexican food I have ever had! Every thing we have had here is so good!! We really appreciate having actual vegan options. Do yourself a favor and try it out! Meat eater or not you will love the vegan food here!!

Our favs would be the migas plate, burrito, enchiladas and all of the sides! We attempted to take a photo but the food didn't last fast enough and I had to will power to wait.
