Sparks Steak House - Review - Midtown East - New York - The Infatuation

"Dress code: business casual. Thanks for the tip, Sparks website. I’ll be sure to eat somewhere else. If you haven’t figured it out by now, we’re not fans of Sparks. Everything about the place feels stuffy and corporate, like eating at the only steakhouse within twenty miles of a major convention center. Despite the business casual rule, most everyone you’ll see is dressed in a boxy suit. And on top of all that, the steaks are a letdown and the service is terrible. We don’t know about you, but we’ll skip this spot and eat a steak somewhere that doesn’t make us angry. RESERVE A TABLE WITH RESERVE A TABLE Food Rundown Prime Sirloin This is the steak that Sparks is allegedly known for. It’s pretty much a strip steak, and most times we’ve had it, we’ve not been impressed. For some reason, I find myself chewing on Sparks steaks more than I should have to." - Chris Stang

Came to Spark’s Steakhouse because of the story of Paul Castellano, but I stayed for the incredible food. The street still has this frozen-in-time vibe, even the restaurant looks like time politely stopped somewhere in the late 80s out of respect. The steak? Yeah, it’s expensive. But it was fantastic: perfectly charred outside, juicy inside. We had hash brown potatoes and mushrooms on the side which tasted great as well. The meat portions are big. We were very full, but the friendly waiter convinced us to order a dessert anyway so we shared a cheesecake which tasted good as well.

We recently dined at Sparks Steak House in NYC and had an incredible experience, thanks to our server, Paco. From the moment we sat down, Paco went above and beyond to make our evening special. He was attentive without being intrusive, knew the menu inside and out, and gave fantastic recommendations for both steaks and wine pairings. What really stood out was his genuine care—he anticipated our needs before we even had to ask, ensured everything was cooked to perfection, and checked in at just the right moments. Paco’s professionalism, warmth, and attention to detail turned a great meal into an unforgettable experience. If you’re dining at Sparks, ask for Paco—you won’t be disappointed!!

Google
A traditional steakhouse in NYC. The steak was good, but not the best Ive ever had. Service was excellent, ambience was nice. Was there for a business dinner and everyone had a good time. By the way the hash browns are more like roast potatoes - very nice!

Google
I came to this steak house because of the murder of mob boss Paul Castellano outside the restaurant in 1985. I give a chance to try even I saw mix review on the internet. How I feel as a new Yorker? Admitting, here again you can't go to famous place without tourist and most of touristy place has higher price than local place. I expected to get a knowledgeable service with a good taste food but both of them were below my expectations. Steak was ok but my server gave me the wrong wine. He gave me plum wine instead of Moscato. It was obvious that the color of the wine I ordered was different. I actually had a sip to make sure he gave me the right one in case I was wrong, but it turned out to be he gave me the wrong one. I called him but he acted offensive and keep saying it was correct, and it was bartender gave it to him so it shouldn't be mistake. He wanted to prove me wrong so bad so he went back to the bartender and turned out to be the bartender gave me the wrong wine from the beginning. My point was, I expected the server to be knowledgeable enough about everything the restaurant sells and if it is a question from a customer, the server shouldn't have an ego. If he/she didn't know they should ask first before assumption. My opinion, if you want to experience one time restaurant that has a history. You can try here.

Google
A true New York classic. Sparks delivers consistently excellent food and service; a steakhouse that truly lives up to its reputation. The quality is top-tier, from the perfectly cooked cuts to the attentive, old school service. It’s one of those places that makes you feel like you're part of the city’s timeless dining history. Definitely one of New York’s best.

Google
Really cool place. Old school vibe. Landscape paintings line up every well. I mean every wall space! Service was exceptional. Our server Juan thought of everything, including splitting our shared appetizer dish. The dishes were all very good. The filet mignon and sirloin were tender and flavorful! The outside was a bit burned. Old school style … We enjoyed the experience a lot!

Google
We came from Ms, had reservations for 0800 and did not make it there until about ten. Service was top notch even with a medical emergency. We had the best experience ever! My son and I ordered the sirloin steak, it was the best that we have ever had. If ever back in New York we will definitely be back, great experience, great food with an exceptional staff. Thank you so very much, Clay Sizemore

Google
It was excellent! The Tomato & Burrata was perfect. The Filet was Huge & Delicious. The wine menu was everything you could want. Service was great & Omar was super helpful as well. We’ll definitely be back when we’re in town again.

Yelp
Definitely an old school steakhouse ambiance. Elegant decor and table settings. Service was very good. Polite and mostly attentive. I did not think the taste of my filet met the price point--although it was an indeed a huge cut. Unfortunately, was not among the best I have had.

Yelp
This place was meh and overpriced. The wine I started with was pure vinegar and needed to be swapped out. Started with the baked clams which had flavor but were very small. The sliced steak with mushrooms was mediocre at best. The creamed spinach was awful. The hash browns were the best part of the meal. The tiramisu was even a disappointment. The decor was tacky, with a cheap Christmas tree. The service was slow and the meal was overpriced. Don't go. There are so many, many better steakhouses in NYC.

Yelp
My husband loves anything Mafia history related so couldn't wait to dine here during our trip to NYC this week. It does say business attire only but we called to make sure we could wear a nice top and jeans. No problem at all. Was actually surprised to see some coming in with mesh shorts, cut off tshirts just so know they are flexible with attire. The restaurant is very old but I think that's the ambiance they are going for. The wait staff are very attentive and take turns with tables so you don't go without anything. Very friendly hostess and servers. We had researched some of the menu reviews ahead of time so skipped the appetizers as we read how big the meals were. I chose the fresh halibut steak while my husband did the filet mignon. We opted for the mushrooms and hashbrowns for sides. The filet mignon was huge! Cooked to perfection and he may have eaten half due to the size. My fish was good but could have used a little more seasoning. The mushrooms just lacked flavor. Perhaps a butter or garlic sauce would have helped but just tasted very plain. The hashbrowns were just okay. But again, my husband raved about the filet. They also give you warm bread and butter. We were far too full for dessert but the plates that were coming around looked amazing. I'm not sure it's worth $200 but the ambiance, staff and just the history-definitely worth the visit.

Yelp
This place is very famous and plays into NYC folklore. There are apparently 5 organized crime families in NYC so I'm told. This is where Paul Castellano, head of the Gambino family was gunned down as he either left or entered the restaurant. I hope it was after the meal because the food is pretty good. Pretty pretty good. With that background in the rear view mirror... Lighting was bright Noise was limited No pipes in music--hooray! Service was excellent The shrimp and baked clams appetizer was small. Small shells (but 4) but large shrimp (but 2) was very good....,well cooked and seasoned nicely. Not jaw to the floor excellent best ever but darn good. The steak was about average for a high end steakhouse. Not the best, but good. The crust was amazing and it was seasoned just right. Not the most tender but acceptable. The filet was cooked medium (not medium well as ordered) and the sirloin was cooked medium well (not medium as ordered). They don't serve with signature steak sauce. The creamed spinach was a miss. Not sure the err but maybe too much garlic, too little pepper and too little salt? Also, maybe some additional Parmesan and/ mozzarella cheese folded in would have helped! I have cooked this dish many times and it was not right. The potatoes were--again, not great but very good. The chunks were a little too big or a little too small but relatively few were in between. Not the Goldilocks (just right) of potatoes! In any event, for what it cost us, the value was not there. Great service and great ambiance didn't make up for the mehhh food.

Yelp
Best restaurant ever in New York City. The food is great. The ambience is amazing. Best steak in the world. I love it. Great service always amazing food

Yelp
The allure of Sparks starts with its connection to the famous mob hit of "Big Paulie" Castellano in 1985, and moves towards what Sparks should be most famous for...really great food. The dining room is spacious by NYC standards and the ambiance is quiet, a bit on the luxurious side, yet not so much that you'll feel underdressed. The food is superb. Known for its steaks, they are grilled to perfection. They have an extensive wine selection and there is never a shortage of attention from your servers. The service is quick, friendly, and knowledgeable. Sparks should always be on the short list for visits to NYC.

Yelp
Really loved the service at Sparks. Great steakhouse ambience without being overly pretentious. I asked for their best steak and they specialize in the sirloin. It was a steak purists favorite preparation, hard sear, lightly salted, nothing else to get in the way of that great beefy flavor. The "hash browns" were a killer side dish. Would dine her again!

Yelp
Steak and wine tasting today with Jennifer Nee, we ordered the thick cut steak and the overall feeling was average, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, the downside was that the steak was a little burnt and lower than I was expecting; the cheesy dessert tasted great and the lobster was rather the best flavor of the restaurant, fresh and tender The service that disappointed me the most was a bit rude, which is disappointing for an old restaurant as I think they can do better!

Yelp
Sparks Steak House took us last minute no problem, no dress code. Ambiance was old school mafia/Soprano-esk. It would make sense since this was the spot Castellano was shot, presumably a hit by Gotti. Now for the important stuff. We ordered 18 oysters in the half shell and they were sooo good. There was a little confusion and they brought out 24. No biggie, they corrected it. I ordered an espresso martini which sadly was pretty bad. But they made up for it with a vodka Collins, very refreshing. The Cesar salad was delicious, no anchovies. Our table ordered 2 filet mignons and 2 Prime Steaks (forgot to take a picture I was so hungry and dove right in). Steaks were cooked to perfection, no complaints!! The filet mignons were HUGE! And for desert the staff sang happy birthday while also hung out and shared stories/pictures of celebrities who they had waited on (we closed the place down so it was pretty slow at 10pm). Servers name was Ante, and his crew were very pleasant. Would recommend!

Yelp
Service was amazing as well as the food. Ambiance is perfect! We ordered a ton of food including shrimp cocktail, the filet, salmon, and other things and they all were delicious!

Yelp
Sparks is your classic old school NYC streak house. Our friends are regulars there and hence the outstanding service. Ambiance is more of that back in the day vibe with a mix of young and old dining in nicely spaced out tables. Food is excellent. Although it's a steak house, I opted for lobster, and fish. A win! Sparks is consistent and that's why they are still around.

Yelp
Love the ambiance of this place. Very old school NY steakhouse with a charming vibe. I feel weird saying this for a steakhouse but get the lobster. It was amazing. The wine list is also very impressive and included several large format options (we loved the 2015 Quintessa). Definitely a staple spot for NY!

Yelp
Great steaks as always, great one on one service, never disappointed. We get to NYC twice a year and first stop Sparks. Great place to meet our family and friends.

Yelp
Food: 2/5 Service: 3/5 Ambiance: 2/5 Disappointing night encountered at a renowned historic NYC steakhouse, resulting in a regrettable dining experience.

Yelp
Amazing steaks. Appetizer was tomato and mozzarella. I had the steak fromage with Roquefort cheese. Husband had the lamb chops Drinks were strong but very good. Finished off the night with a Jamaican coffee. Staff was amazing and the atmosphere was great.

Yelp
Great steak and sides. I wish they had bigger ice cubes for bourbons, but no complaints otherwise. I sat at the bar and the bartenders were great.

Yelp
This is our go to every time we visit NYC. Fantastic food and atmosphere. You feel like you're in a movie.

Yelp
I genuinely had never heard of this steakhouse before. My boyfriend surprised me with taking me here over the holidays. I kind of like the ambiance and that it's not super hip and happening. Old school decor and absolutely beautiful inside. I think a Gambino mobster was shot outside for historical facts sometime in the 1980's. It has that kind of charm. Like I'm impressed in that the boy actually did research on steakhouses before coming over here. We each had a glass of Merlot to start. Not gonna lie, reasonably priced for a steakhouse. I think it was somewhere around $14-15 and that I would say these days is normal for non-happy hour bars. It was also a super generous pour and literally like 2 glasses of wine each. We split a spinach salad that came with an insane amount of thick crispy bacon, a side of the hashbrown potatoes that were amazing, and we each had the sirloin steak. The steak was phenomenal. A huge portion cooked to perfection. Definitely in the top 5 of steaks I've consumed in the city. Although, I don't partake in regularly going to steakhouses lol. I'm not gonna lie, a homerun hit for me was really also the butter that accompanied the bread. Maybe I was tipsy bordering on drunk from having a few drinks earlier in the evening but that butter was absolute heaven.

Yelp
Pros: + Amazing side dishes - I loved the roasted potatoes + Desserts - gotta love their tartufo + Friendly staff + Great wine collection Cons: - Red Snapper - lacked a lot of flavor. I'm sure the other meats were much better. However, my snapper was just pan fried with very little seasoning IG: QueenOfAdventureNYC

Yelp
My husband made surprise reservations for tonight (Christmas Eve) for us to come for dinner. I had always wanted to go to Sparks and always heard fantastic things, and boy they weren't wrong! The very nice man (host) greeted us right away. We had to wait by the bar for about 10 minutes which was completely understandable because they had a packed house. Plus the eagles vs cowboys games was on. We then got seated and our waiter Val came right over and gave us our menus and offered us water etc. He took our orders and asked we had any questions, he made sure to ask us a few times if all was well. I was surprised by this because he was handling a few tables at once. I then asked him to take a photo for us and he took a bunch (a very big plus for a girl like me haha)! He was just absolutely amazing across the board. The staff at this establishment definitely made it a warm welcoming experience! We were served hot fresh rolls and butter for the table. Then we choose the jumbo shrimp for our appetizer, the main course we choose filet mignon and prime sirloin steak. We picked two side dishes which were mashed potatoes and asparagus. The steak melted in my mouth yet had a crispy texture, I don't know how to explain it but it was the best steak hands down me and my husband had. And we go to many steak houses. The food was a 10/10 for me! Service, atmosphere, great customer service and amazing food. Definitely will be back soon! We are so happy we spent our Christmas Eve with Sparks!

Yelp
Sparks Steakhouse delivered an exceptional dining experience for our party of 10. The steak was cooked to perfection, and the Caesar salad was deliciously balanced, avoiding the pitfall of overdressing. From the shrimp cocktail to the oysters, creamed spinach, potatoes, and tiramisu, every dish was outstanding. The waitstaff was attentive, offering excellent appetizer and wine recommendations throughout the evening. Overall, a fantastic dining experience that exceeded expectations.

Yelp
Here is a little insider tip, Place your reservation to make sure you're sitting in Miguel's section. Sparks is already known as an institution for wonderful steaks and a great overall menu, but the only thing that makes it better is when you have a weight staff that makes you feel like you've just won the lottery! We went tonight for my son's birthday, and I was amazed at how special I was made to feel like on Monday night everything Miquel and his crew was absolutely top notch.. What are you waiting for? Go make yourself a reservation today and try Miguel's recommendation of the mushrooms Caps. Yum !

Yelp
I haven't been able to have steak for years , so when I was finally cleared to eat a piece I ran to the next available quality steakhouse and Sparks it was . We had other plans so we decided to come by for an early lunch . We we're literally the only people in the place so I thought the attention would be on us , it wasn't . We sat down for quite some time and even decided ro take a few selfies and THATS when a tiny old italian man decided to come out to ask us if we were looking for the restrooms . Anyway service wasn't the best or even good initially, we summed it up to it being too early and they were prepping for the evening rush because once he did begin to serve us, they became very attentive . When the gentleman returned he bought us a menu. I swore it was the holy grail of wines lol, literally any kind of wine you could think of was on that list making it absolutely Impossible to choose so we went with what we knew lol. The food ? Eh .... Nothing was amazing besides the steaks . The crab and scallop dish was just bad . The spinach was just that, Steamed and the creamy potatoes ? We swapped it for the hash browns which just tastes better because they were fried . I brought the mushrooms home so i can spruce them up . We did enjoy that chocolate mousse cake tho . Oh and the baked clams . Over all , this steakhouse got a solid 3 stars . Service, and steak along with one of our favorite wines was really good . Skip everything else except dessert

Yelp
Food was good ! Ambiance is very mature . Went around Christmas time and it was very decorated . Not a young crowd . Got a reservation fairly easy . Got seated in a little nook , felt secluded/forgotten.

Yelp
Had dinner this evening at Sparks. We have to say , service , attentiveness , food quality , ambience and all were wonderful. We have eaten at some of the finest steakhouses and restaurants in the US . Sparks ranks right up there with any and all of them. The atmosphere is exactly what you would expect from a vintage, landmark prime steakhouse . Gino was our server and he was wonderful . From the greeting you receive at the front desk to the exiting and all of the servers thanking you for visiting , the evening was amazing . We cannot wait to visit Sparks again in the near future. Thanks to all at Sparks for a wonderful evening and dinner.

Yelp
Classy with a cool history. Steak cooked perfectly, amazing sides. With that said, the service wasn't the greatest considering the prices. Server didn't communicate very well--although he was tipped as such. The check on a party couldn't be split which I thought was asinine. When asked the server why this was. He said that we should've told him before he brought out the check, which interestingly, we never asked for the check. I could've easily made an issue about this with management but decided to leave it alone and share this experience here. Would I go back? Yea. But this experience made sparks disappear from my fave list. So many others around to try now.

Yelp
Sparks was my favorite steak house in the world, I had been many times pre-Covid and have also been to hundreds of other steakhouses, so being number one meant something. I took my son last night, after telling him (and others) how great it was and was extremely disappointed. The biggest problem was that both of our steaks were over cooked, the one mistake a steakhouse should never make. He ordered the fillet, I had the sirloin. His fillet was cooked well (see picture), in retrospect I should have said something but he did not complain until he left half of it over. My sirloin was slightly better, it was cooked medium and was at least edible with the (excellent) sautéed onions. Given the level of competition among steak houses, it's sad to see that Sparks has gone from best to arguably the worst I've had in NYC in ten years. I hope they can turn it around.

Yelp
I have been looking forward to visiting Sparks for a very very long time. It was FABULOUS! My visit yesterday secured its spot as my favorite steakhouse. The decor is vintage. The food delicious. The service...best Ive ever experienced. Francisco was fantastic! What a friendly, attentive and hospitable individual. Really made our dinner that much more enjoyable. Lets talk about the food. Caesar salad, crisp and flavorful, croutons crunchy and buttery. Rolls were warm and chewy sooo good. Our combo of baked clams and shrimp scampi was great because of the light garlic flavor. My medallions of beef was a generous portion with a wonderful amount of mushrooms. The hashed brown potatoes crispy yet fluffy. The tartufo with the addition of the berries was a delicious birthday dessert for my hubby. Im already checking our calender to see when we can return!

Yelp
I got excited when I found out that a work event will be held at Sparks Steakhouse. Sparks is another understated NYC icon and one of the last remaining steakhouses in midtown Manhattan. Upon entering I was greeted with a huge dining hall, the maître d' directed patrons in which party or event they were attending to their tables. Our table for a party of 20 was at the back area of the restaurant. Since the event is a pre-fixe dinner, the menu was already ready at the table presented with an elegant table setting. We started the dinner with homemade bread with butter and I selected fresh Bufala mozzarella with tomatoes and mint leaves. Since my eyes caught the filet mignon I ordered a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon with it. The steak was the specialty of this place. It was crispy and crusty from the outside and juicy from the inside, the meat melted in my mouth for every bite. We then concluded the dinner with a slice of New York cheesecake served with fresh strawberries. It was also one of the best cheesecakes I've had in a while. It was a lovely dinner to be had. This place is perfect for parties, events, or even date nights. This place is highly recommended.

Yelp
Went to Soarks and had an amazing time! The dinning room is still like it was in the early days and completely added to the experience. The filet was one of the best I have ever eaten. The port wine after dinner has me dreaming of going back! It was pricey but so worth it.

Yelp
I had a business dinner at Sparks Steakhouse last night at 7PM. We had a great table in the corner on the lower level to the right as you walk in. There were 5 of us. I've never experienced worse service in my life. For one, it took over 25 minutes to get a drink order from the waiter, and another 20 minutes to get our drinks. Second, we ordered a bunch of appetizers, shrimp cocktail, clams on the half shell, oysters on the half shell, caeser salad and mozzarella and tomato. Our waiter never brought the shrimp cocktail or the oysters. We were one of his first tables of the night, and as the restaurant began to fill up, he got worse and worse. I ordered the Prime Steak, (which our waiter pushed as the best steak on the menu). I ordered it medium and it came out medium rare. The other 4 business associates ordered the same steak and all of their steaks came out well under-cooked. The waiter never came back to check on us or to offer us another round of drinks. We had to flag him several times before he even saw us to get another round. We would have ordered drinks all night, but ended up with only a second round. After dinner, he offered us desert, which one of the items ordered by my associate was out of stock. I ordered a large espresso, which came out COLD because it probably sat for 15 minutes before being delivered to the table. By the time the the whole ordeal was over, we had been sitting for over 3.5hours. The bill was over $1200 which would have been fine, but when you pay that much for a nice steak dinner, you expect the service to reflect it. This bill could have easily been well over that if the waiter kept our drinks full. He missed out big time. I will never go to this steakhouse again. The food was sub-par, the service was a disgrace, and the amount of time we were there was way over what I can tolerate. Also, when ordering a good steak, I expect options of sauces to come with it, which either is not an option at this place, or the waiter just forgot to mention them. If you are planning to go to a nice steak dinner with family or business associates, DO NOT GO HERE. This was a Thursday night and I can only imagine what it would be like on a Friday or Saturday.

Yelp
Friendly greeting from staff, I checked my coat while we ate and had an easy time retrieving it when we were done. The portion sizes were shareable. I had a huge filet, it was so juicy and cooked perfectly. The old school vibe on the inside has character.

Yelp
Sparks Steakhouse is so very good and richly rewards the palate. Reservation was easily made via Open Table and upon entry, one is met with the history of a traditional steakhouse well beyond the mob hit everyone mentions. Staff are friendly and give you the option of bar dining or the main dining area. I chose the latter. It took a moment for my waiter, Robert, to warm up to me, but he was skillful the entire time. He had a great wine recommendation by the half bottle in the price range I desired. Water was poured and I was perusing the menu. This evening was chopped salad for starters, with the top sirloin accompanied by their hash browned potatoes. The sesame stuffed bread roll and butter was not remarkable, but far from bad. The chopped salad with asparagus, cucumber and broccoli with Italian vinaigrette was an excellent counterpoint to the protein extravaganza that I was about to experience. Robert timed my medium rare top sirloin very well, coordinating the kitchen with my pace on the salad. Sparks' top sirloin is substantially larger than sirloins served at most steakhouses. It has a bark or crust on it that is so delectable and flavorful. The juicy pink interior is uniform throughout the entire cut of meat, which indicates the chef is paying close attention to cooking temperature. There is a little gristle from this cut of top sirloin, but the fat capping lends so much flavor. Bite after bite of tender sliced meat cooked to pink perfection ringed with that crust beckon and welcome your palate. A thing of beauty on your plate. Slice after slice, followed by a sip of that Stag's Leap Artemis, the opera is playing in your mouth. I had just come from the Opera, X: the Life and Times of Malcolm X, so the musical and theatrical production had moved from the Met's stage to my palate. I don't want to leave out the hash browns, which are among the best I have had at any steakhouse. The crisp pieces set these hash browns apart. I had no dessert. The meal had done its thing and I was more than satisfied. Sparks will be around $200-250 per person and is definitely in the top tier of steakhouses in NYC for flavor. Four and a half stars!

Yelp
Ok, Ok, Ok I am a Texas boy and we know how to cook a steak, but WOW. My taste buds were rocked after eating at Sparks. The steak just melted in my mouth and the taste was fantastic. This is fine dining st its best and the waiting staff will make you feel like royalty. If you are traveling thru Manhattan like I did, you need to stop by Sparks, you will not regret it. The ambiance is wonderful.

Yelp
Oh Sparks... that NY strip steak I had Still gives me so much sparks Fuhget abaat it.... besides all the interesting controversial history tied to this place from the mid-80s. They really do serve a good steak. I mean somebody important got whacked ova heee and they still made a good steak. Ok technically it happened outside the restaurant... but ... regardless, that's what they're known for. World class steaks. This might sound trivial, but the mashed potatoes here are out of this world. Not sure why other reviews mention bad service because of the service I got was pretty attentive. But I was not in a large party or anything. Maybe try being nice with a smile for a change and servers remember that.

Yelp
Classic, timeless... and one of the few steakhouses for which all others should be judged. It's a family owned, classic steakhouse with a magnificent interior that must be on everyone's steakhouse "bucket list". They are known for their aged beef, fine wine and seafood. Our group of five started with the Fresh Bufala Mozzarella with Sliced Tomatoes and the Lump Crab Meat and Bay Scallops. For entrees, the men ordered the Prime Sirloin, and the women all ordered the Filet Mignon. The portions were huge. Desert was NY Cheesecake and Chocolate Mousse Cake. Everything received high marks by our entire group. The massive library of wines was quite impressive. There were so many good ones to choose, and we settled on two Cabernets - 2017 Silver Oak and 2017 Berringer Reserve. From the time you enter to the time you leave, you'll know you're in a first-rate establishment with lots of pride in quality fine dining. Sparks is an experience that should not be missed.

Yelp
Old school steakhouse with great ambiance, perfect martinis, delicious food and Juan our server was SO FABULOUS! I cannot say enough. He has been working there for many years, had great stories and great recommendations. His shift was ending and we didn't want him to leave so he stayed!!!!

Yelp
I pride myself on being a solid judge of a good steak. After all, my friends and I go monthly to a new steakhouse for guys night....it was Sparks turn...The infamous 'mafia-hit' steakhouse in NYC. There is a reason I haven't visited and the stories aren't the reason...the food was very disappointed. Don't be fooled by the allure of its history. Food: *Caesar Salad - standard, nothing special *Premium Sirloin Steak-famously known for it, I was VERY disappointed. *Hash Browns - decent *Creamed Spinach - took one bite, and that's how it stayed Service: *wait staff had a rude attitude, very unprofessional. Try VERY hard to upsell you on addition food and sides. *ordered a cappuccino at the conclusion of the meal. Most people know coffee helps with digestion after a big meal-wait staff was obnoxious about the order. "Nobody orders a cappuccino past 11AM" *A1 Sauce should not be used at a fine steakhouse. My colleague, a friend of a friend joined guys night, requested A1 steak sauce and I was truly embarrassed and questioned his judgment. For the staff to make nasty comments-rude unprofessional. Ambiance * we were seated by the steps whereby the staff was constantly bringing carts of food up and down. Extremely noisy, distracting and a tight fit for a table and seats. End of night: On the toilet ALL night. Clearly something they made didn't agree with my stomach. At the end of the day, there are so many steakhouses in NYC...you can learn from my mistakes and skip this one.

Yelp
Best steak I've had in NYC and I've tried many of the top steakhouses. Atmosphere is also very nice and less cramped than in many NYC steakhouses. Service was great and they accommodated my family including a well behaved toddler well! I think they should be much higher reviewed on Yelp!

Yelp
Had dinner here last Monday night and the setting was perfect. There were maybe 5 of us at the bar so no need for a table. I got there about 5:10 pm and bartender Chris kept the preliminary activities going nicely (didn't wish to eat dinner for another hour) After several Jack & Coke's and plenty of talk (had Yankees tix for Tue & Wed nights) it was time for dinner and went with the beef medallions with mushroom gravy and a side of creamed spinach. But wait! A dinner salad with roquefort dressing and a dinner roll (with a generous saucer of butter) had to be the precursor. Completely satisfying to prepare for my medallions. They arrived on a serving cart and could not be more amazing. Went with a medium temp as I always do really and they were melt-in-your-mouth wonderful !! I've been to NYC about 5 times and this was my 2nd visit to Sparks, the last being in like '08. Yes, like Arnold said, "I'll be back"

Yelp
Update to my last review!! We loved this classic, old-school place so much after coming for my birthday in June that we treated my boyfriend's parents here last Sunday evening. I think we may have loved it even more this time! Amongst the four of us, we ordered the Shrimp Cocktail, Fresh Bufala Mozzarella with sliced Tomato, Scottish Smoked Salmon, Oysters on the Half Shell, 2 Prime Sirloin Steaks, Steak Fromage, Prime Sirloin Steak ("fancy", with added mushrooms and peppers, for Dad), Creamed Spinach, Mushroom Caps, Baked Potato, Steamed Spinach, and a bottle of Sirah for my love and me. Again, everything was absolutely perfect. Juan was our server and he was delightful! I think Sparks might be my favorite place now. I can see why they're so famous (apart from the mob stuff haha) and have been such an important NYC fixture for so long.

Yelp
Sparks steakhouse, most famously known for the mob, hit on Paul Castellano. It's a must stop if you're in New York City. The food in the service is excellent. It's a bit pricey, but well worth the money.

Yelp
I love this place. Been a few times. It's a classic w great steaks. Had a large group and the staff was patient with us and let us take our time between drinks starters and mains. Ordered an assortment of seas food starters. They customized it for us and served the table. Shrimp was great. Oysters were fresh. Crab was melt in your mouth. The main I ordered was the strip and it was cooked perfectly. Great char on the steak. Sides were also on point. The Creamed spinach was probably the best and it wasn't too overdone with the cheese. The only miss was on the wine but that was one me. I just missed on my Cabernet. Would and will go back. Again this is a classic spot for dinner.

Yelp
Truly old school in terms of service and atmosphere. You feel Ike you have stepped back in time back in 1985 when Castalano was killed on his way out....food-spot on but not in my top 3 of my NYC steakhouses.

Yelp
There is nothing needed to be said about Sparks. It's a classic and has been for a very long time. The food is amazing and the service was some of the best I have ever experienced. Our server Miguel P was spot on and it made the experience well worth it as always!!

Yelp
We came here for dinner. We were looking for a good steak in Manhattan. The host was friendly. Atmosphere was nice. We had the Buffalo cheese and green salad with tomato. The tomatoes were sliced very bid and both dishes were very bland and needed a bit of dressing. Prime Sirloin Steak was cooked to the right temperature which was medium but surprisingly very chew! The lobster is ok. Asparagus needs seasoning. Mushroom was tasty. Baked potato was good. Overall, I won't come back again for a steak.

Yelp
Classic Italian steakhouse, excellent service, great bar. They'll make any drink you ask for, I just wish the bar had more non alcoholic cocktails on their drink list.
