"Perched in the shadow of Lewisham’s monolithic shopping centre, the sheer physicality of Sparrow’s location feels like a metaphor for migrating the seasonal, restrained cooking familiar to central London to SE13. Chefs and partners Terry Blake and Yohini Nandakumar are up to the task, having met at St John and done stints at The Square and Bao. Working upon a modern European canvas, inflections come from far and wide: dinner could start with cured salmon, lemon and crème fraîche before turning to massaman beef cheek curry, or tender duck breast with chilli jam and endives. Brunch is essential, with Sri Lankan appam pancakes reflecting Nandakumar’s roots, and mince on dripping toast" - David Paw

A beautiful and underrated restaurant in one of the busiest and ugliest roads. Very kind and attentive staff, the decoration was quite simple but modern and adequate. We had fennel and kohlrabi salad which was really good and beetroot salad with hazelnut which was utterly tasty. Their mushroom risotto was al dente which was very pleasing and it was packed with loads of mushroom taste. Their special main of the day was beef and bone marrow and potato which the meat was amazing but I think the idea of fried potato on the side of such a brilliant food was a killer and took a bit of its elegance in taste and also in its visual presentation. ( something with a bit of acidity would have been a much better choice to accompany such a great fatty food). Overall a great experience and enjoyable meal.

Such tasty food! Prices are great for the quality of food. The roasted cauliflower, onion/artichokes, bread, and the fig salad were the standout dishes for me. Other guests liked the fish, mushroom risotto, olives, cabbage, and chickpeas. The chocolate tart was sooooooooo good. I’m not a chocolate person, but it was so luscious, smooth, and flavourful. The server Alex was friendly and very accommodating. Next time I am in the UK, I will definitely visit. I would absolutely recommend.

Delicious food! Portions on the smaller size but I Loved everything on the menu. The chicken liver parfait with buttery in house made brioche was to die for. The pear and fennel salad with candied walnuts was my favourite, perhaps because I have a sweet tooth as it was almost like a dessert. The bavette with horseradish pure was gorgeous and cooked medium rare to perfection. The confit duck with figs was gorgeous. So crunchy and yummy. We also ordered a agnolotti with pea and ricotta with burnt butter and sage and it was perfection, so was the tagliatelle with squid ink and clams. Loved the lemony sauce. Servers were very friendly and attentive. What a gem! I’ll definitely be back.

Our favourite local restaurant in Lewisham, we have been here serval times and the food is always fantastic. They change their menu very often and they always have daily special dishes and cocktails. My personal favourite is their fried chicken and cod roe toast. They are tapas style so we always managed to try everything we liked on the menu. The only problem is we always end up eating too much and still got tempted by their desserts. I think they are very reasonably priced and service is always friendly.

Just Wow! Can't recommend enough... Fresh, beautiful flavours! Chef Terry creates magic in the kitchen... The chicken liver pate profiteroles, the burratta salad and all the desserts on the menu are highly highly recommended! If the pork cheek is available on the specials definitely go for that! The service staff was amazing... Alex made the evening extra special. Thank you for the fantastic experience... You've got a fan! 💐💐💐❤️❤️❤️❤️

Brilliant lunch here. Portions were big, flavours were bold and service was attentive. For £25 for 3 courses, you really can't ask for more. Will be back for more if they keep that custard tart on the menu

Happen to drive past this everyday on the way to work, looks rather unique from the outside and had come to have a try. Great service and friendly staff. Food was alright in general but the price tag was rather expensive for the portion size. The decorations and surrounding was a nice set up. If you like your unique dishes then this is the place to go 😶‍🌫️

Came in with no booking on a busy day and the staff were super kind about seating us (and lovely throughout lunch service). Loved the food, just great place overall. Can’t wait to go back.

Yelp
Wow! What an amazing newcomer to Lewisham! We are in much need of more restaurants of this standard to bring people to the area. I've had my eye on Sparrow for a while and it is always busy when I go past and have seen it promoted a lot on social media. So I'm so excited that I finally got to try it. I would award the restaurant 4.5/5 if I could, but as I can't, I'm being more generous! My first recommendation would be to book a table. When we arrived there was some confusion with our booking and they didn't have anything available, but we were lucky in the end to get a table but were restricted to 1hr 10 mins due to the next booking. We were shown to our table and our waiter came over, he was really friendly and explained the menu to us. The menu is intended to be a sharing menu, so you order a few dishes per person and dig in. Food comes out in no particular order, and you generally don't get more than one dish at a time. Each dish it a proper sized meal, it is not tapas style portions. My friend and I decided to go for the popcorn chicken, lamb chops, mushroom risotto and beef brisket with a portion of bread. I felt like the dishes got better and better as we went along. The bread was lovely and enough to take the edge off our hunger until the dishes started to come out. First came our popcorn chicken with dashi mayo, it was really tasty and the batter had great flavour. No nasty bits of chicken either, which can sometimes be the case, all good pieces of meat. I really loved it. Next came the lamb chops, neither my friend or I were particularly blown away with the lamb, I did like the accompanying tahini and pomegranate salsa but found the lamb a tad overdone and charred with a few burnt mouthfuls. The presentation was very good however! We then enjoyed the mushroom risotto with goats curd. It was creamy and delicious with chunks of mushrooms, it had quite a rich flavour and we both really enjoyed it. I probably could have eaten the entire portion alone, it was so good. Our final and favourite dish was the beef brisket which was served in a kind of curry sauce with a bowl of rice. The meat was perfectly tender and the sauce was tasty and it was helpful that it came with rice, so another side wasn't needed. It had a lot of different textures that came together well. I really wanted more of that dish, it was really very good. Each dish had amazing flavour and didn't need any additional seasoning. Each dish was very unique and would be an excellent stand alone dish. I think by having a limited menu helps them to do each dish really well. I was really impressed and would definitely recommend Sparrow to friends and family. After our meal we sat at the small bar to finish our drinks and got chatting to the restaurant owner, the wife of the husband and wife team that own and run it. She was really nice and we gave our feedback and she spoke to us about how has been since it launched. She was really friendly and very passionate about good food. The restaurant is expensive by Lewisham standards, but then there isn't really anything directly comparable to Sparrow in the area. If I were to eat that standard of food in central London I would certainly expect to pay the price we did. It is only fair to reward the good quality. You don't mind paying when you get an excellent meal. I will definitely be going back, but would like to try brunch next time and have my eye on their pancakes! If the dinner menu changes every so often, I would like to return to try some of the new creations. Let's hope that Sparrow will encourage lots of new decent restaurants to open in Lewisham! This place has proved that people in the area want it!

Yelp
Outstanding brunch. Really interesting menu with both traditional and unusual options--like the Sri Lankan appam with aubergine--that I likely wouldn't make at home. Super tasty cocktails, but be warned: at £8 each, they'll double the price of your brunch! I enjoyed the gin & marmalade sour. Would definitely return to this spot.

Yelp
Just enjoyed a delicious dinner at Sparrow in Lewisham with my husband and in-laws. They have lived in the area for 40 years, and are happy to have a gem like this close by. As an American who is pregnant, and usually a picky eater, I was pleasantly surprised. All of the food was well seasoned and absolutely delicious. For my father-in-law who is almost 100% blind, this was his first meal out in two years and he thoroughly enjoyed every minute. He liked the casual atmosphere, all the food, the stemless glasses and the NZ white fish. My favorite was the sesame banana ice cream pie...amazing!! Excellent Service, tasty drinks, great ambiance and delicious food. The family has already made plans to go back!

Yelp
This is a little treasure in Lewisham. Noticed how full it was & how good the food looked several times walking back to my brother's from the train while in town on business. The specialty cocktails were excellent (albeit a bit small) everything we are was amazingly flavorful from the soft boiled eggs, anchovy salad & brisket

Yelp
Fun, exciting menu, beautifully executed. Really lovely staff and it's just off roundabout in Lewisham...what's not to love?
