"Special Club is an intimate jazz venue in the basement below Niche Niche (from the same owners) in Soho. With its white tablecloths and red velvet decor, it feels festive and old-timey, and it's the perfect place to hang out with someone you’re romantically involved with. There are two seatings every night at 8pm and 10pm, and if you want a table, be sure to book in advance. But if you just want poke your head in and see what’s going on, there’s a little area by the entrance reserved for walk-ins. Just be aware that this place charges a cover and they only serve beer and wine (and a few snacks)." - Bryan Kim

"Special Club is modeled off of throwback musical social clubs, featuring live jazz, blues, and soul performances. There are two seatings per night at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m., and a $20 cover gets access to the show, with additional charges for drinks and food. On the drink menu, there’s champagne, sake, and cocktails, as well as access to Niche Niche’s wine cellar. Chefs Zach Fabian and Aaron Lirette are serving up small plates like caviar (starting at $68), spicy pickles ($6), a crudo ($19), and shrimp and pork dumplings ($14). Heftier snacks include broiled king crab ($24). It’s all served in a space made to look like a social club with red velvet banquettes, white tablecloths, textured floral wallpaper, and lots of reds." - Kayla Kumari Upadhyaya

Cozy and intimate basement, few drink and bite option. NO coverage The band was amazing played a mix of rock n roll and jazz. Suitable for music fans, date night and small group.

Highly recommend! We had the 3 course dinner which changes regularly and really enjoyed it. Served family style, the restaurant accommodated a dietary restriction. The music was amazing - such a fun dinner and show night out!

What a great spot! I made a reservation for 1 through email, I thought it’d be a hassle but I was met with nothing but respect and kindness. The staff was very friendly and gave me the option to sit at the bar or a table. I eventually moved to a table because the bar has a poor view. The show was great! It was a very talented surf rock band. I hope I get the opportunity to visit again.

Amazing 3 course meal with a great live blues band. I believe the menu and live music genre change daily.

The stage looks a little cheesy, but the rest is pretty legit. We happened to go on a night where they had some last minute changes to the singer, unfortunately the replacement was fine but not great. The waitress said they had some really good talent coming through on most nights. Great little place to taken visitors, I'll probably go again myself. All the staff were helpful & came by frequently. I would get dinner before going & make sure you get a drink before you head down. If they aren't ready to seat you, they will have you sit in the wine cellar which has 2 large farm tables but it's no fun if you're dry. We had the ham plate (a nice charcuterie ham) & cheese plate w/crostinis (small brie/camembert) - note these are 2 separate menu items. We asked for more crostini's without any issue & it was all tasty. Overall, we had no issues and everyone was super friendly especially if you are nice to them. Last tip, the entrance is through Niche Niche & down the stairs.

From the folks that brought you Tokyo Record Bar and Niche Niche, run don't walk to make a reservation at this new gem. Had a nice loungey LA burlesque lounge kind of vibe. Great live musicians led by Alphonso Horne with decent wine/sake cocktails and fun nibbles.

Fun, beautifully decorated place. You can almost miss the entrance but once you go in it’s a whole other world down there. Live music, Japanese beer and good food. It’s a good time.

Great music, great vibe, cozy setting and the wine & cocktails were pretty up there as well. Fun place to go after dinner.

Yelp
Wow, what a treat during their re-opening weekend!!! I found this place via Thrillist. I wasn't sure what to expect, but the experience exceeded my expectations. Making a reservation via Resy was easy, although we got lucky as they didn't have any openings until the day of. They offer two seatings on Friday and Saturday - 8:15 pm dinner & show for $50pp and 10:15 pm show only with 2 drinks or a bottle minimum. We went there on a Saturday night for the dinner & show. The host was very welcoming and friendly (but not overbearing). The band was excellent, and they played for about 1.5 hrs. The food itself was delicious, and while the portion wasn't big, we were both full after a shared 3-course meal. Cocktails, on the other hand, could use some creativity tho!

Yelp
Went here for a friend who wanted to check out a jazz spot. The decor was very nice with velvety seats in a small cozy space. They were doing a la carte dinner with a glass of wine came out to $60 something. What was so odd is I was asked if I wanted food and they just brought it out lol I had no clue what I was getting myself into lol. It was wild boar which I've never had and a hit spicy but it was well presented with a pasta and the dessert was a creamy custard of some kind. We went here looking for jazz. I don't know what kind of research my friend did, but there was no jazz it was rock n roll . Which hey it's cool but very unexpected. I looked at their website and all the past Performances I saw were non jazz. They had more rock, karaoke night, and some swing dancing music etc so needless to say check out who's performing that night and if you want a traditional jazz place it won't be here, but you can still have an interesting show.

Yelp
I can't believe I'd never heard of or been to this place before. I received an email from them (not sure how I'm the mailing list but I'm glad I was) for their Wednesday karaoke night. Unfortunately, I no longer live in NY but was planning a trip back and looked into booking for another night. I made the reservation on Resy and was able to find the perfect date and time for 4 people. It was such a vibe. The decor is a dream come true. I WILL be designing a room in my future house in the same way. I truly loved it, the lighting, the wallpaper, the seating, the touches of greenery, it just felt very grown up and very NYC. We sat at a cozy plush table and ordered 2 bottles of wine for $50 per bottle which really wasn't so bad when you split it 4 ways. The wine menu was extensive and diverse. They apparently even have a sommelier that will provide suggestions as well. The band was awesome as well. They were the perfect backdrop for conversation with friends. The service was also great. Loved Mandy!

Yelp
Took a chance on this place and loved it. Cute ambiance, Sake, wine, beer, and cocktails. $50pp for seats and 3 shared course meal. Portions are very small so don't come super hungry unless you both eat very light. Drinks are not included. Awesome vibes though. Decor is red velvet booths and small wooden chairs, red floral wallpaper with ornate mirrors and plants. The musicians encourage interacting with them, joking around and mingling with the other tables. We did the 815 seating and would probably prefer the cocktail (1015) seating instead which just requires 2 drinks per person I believe. Dinner was tasty but way too small for 2 people to share and for the price. Why it's 4 stars instead of 5. Music varies from jazz music to John Mayer

Yelp
I went here based off a TikTok that looked so fun! $50 for a three course meal and a show sounded like an amazing deal so we were really excited. The meal was a surprise (they ask if you have dietary restrictions ahead of time but there is no real menu) and the food tasted good but the $50 per person price was to SPLIT one plate between two people. So it was $50 for half an appetizer, half an entrée, and half a dessert. The portions would have been great for one person but split between two it wasn't enough food and definitely wasn't worth the price. We went to get pizza afterward because we were still hungry. The music was fine but we were expecting the cool jazz music I've seen mentioned and got folksy/John Mayer/weird vibes from the band instead.

Yelp
I came here with a friend on a weekend evening. I made a reservation for a table ahead of time, but I'm not sure that it was necessary because I don't think every table was full. I think there is also a possibility of walking in and sitting at the small bar, which doesn't really have a view of the stage, but from which you would hear the music just fine. (I'm not sure if the latter option avoids the $20 per person cover charge, though.) The space is cozy and the decor is kitschy, maybe bordering on tacky, but in a good way. We picked a table toward the front, and the music was the highlight of the evening. The band, which we had not seen or heard of before, was extremely talented and played beautiful, smooth Afro-Brazilian jazz. I've been sort of casually "getting into" sake lately, and the list here was good. The hostess/waitress was cool and friendly and helped us choose something we loved- the sake old fashioned- which is actually not mixed with anything, but is just a sake that they feel has the characteristics of an old fashioned. Like some other reviewers mentioned, the food does not look worthwhile, and this is a place that is probably better reserved for before or after dinner. This was before dinner for us, so we did order some snacks- the ham plate and cheese- which were fine but underwhelming. The simplicity of the stuff offered and the utilitarian presentation when it arrives makes it clear that this isn't a restaurant, it's a jazz club- and that's ok. One great (or "special") thing about this place in comparison to other jazz clubs- you're allowed to talk. If you're a jazz snob and you like to be able to hear a pin drop during jazz sets you may hate this, but if you're a normal, social human, you will probably really appreciate it.

Yelp
Had a great time celebrating my friend's bday here. It was a little difficult to find it because it is located in a basement. Just look for the neon lights to your eye level. The space is generous and please make reservations ahead of time as they have assigned seating (booths and tables). The staff were polite and friendly and the service was on point. I got a round of drinks for 4 people (including myself) and 2 additional drinks and the bill was less than $100. They have live music and the performers were interactive with the audience. One of our friends ended up going on the stage haha definitely a great time and i can't wait to go back.

Yelp
Five Star experience. Great ambience, great staff, AWESOME music, and they even prepared a vegan 3-course meal upon request for a fun date night. Highly recommend, it's super cozy and intimate.

Yelp
Let's start with the positives. The space itself is very cool and the music was great. We had this performer named Brian J who was super talented. The downsides...service. service. service. Just incredibly poor. The server rarely came around and I had to on two occasions spend a solid 5-7 mins trying to get her attention which took away from my time with my date. Also, leading into this night I read the reviews on yelp and didn't believe the comments about small wine pours but it's true. They do not give you a normal pour and I don't want to hear it about the wine glass being larger than normal ha. It's so obvious that the pour is small that even the least experienced wine drinker would notice. Lastly, we had the tuna tartare dish. It was so overly seasoned that you couldn't even taste the tuna. Overall, I don't think I'll go back. Primarily due to the service. The most important part of any dining/drink experience is how you're treated and this place doesn't treat you well.

Yelp
Great jazz show! Loved the band. The food was good but very small portions. Better to eat dinner before coming! We had the crudo and the rock shrimp roll. Crudo was awesome but the shrimp roll was a bit boring. Recommend to get something else.

Yelp
First off I'm not a hard-core-jazz-lover FYI. This review is based on atmosphere and drinks. I love that you can talk here and not get in trouble. Cozy quaint adorable space. Excellent vibe when I went. This place can be hit or miss based on what band is playing because the energy in the room really determines if you have a good night. The band I saw was phenomenal! Charles Turner & The Uptown Swing Quartet! We saw their second show and they had a few drinks in them and they were fun and even asked for crowd participation singing. The server was peppy and sweet. They do have a weak pour on the wine for the first glass, but (my opinion is) that it is a sales ploy to to encourage you to buy a bottle. If you don't buy a bottle the second pour is great. I noticed the tables around me all started with short pours then bottles showed up, then those that didn't do the bottle had heavier pours second glass. This didn't bother me enough to give them less stars (I understand makin' sales and hustlin') but I'm an avid drinker so I'm being honest. The wine glasses were beautiful FYI so thin and delicate and nice to drink out of! I'm impressed that had such nice stemware because I'm sure drunks could smash them. Lovely venue great music! I'd go back and also tell folks to give it a try.

Yelp
Had a lot of fun here on Thursday night! Bf and I braved the front row and were absolutely blown away. It can get a little rowdy (they begin the night by telling you it is a social club), but overall the atmosphere is playful and well, jazzy. We shared some snacks off the menu and sipped on sake. Neither of us knew too much about sake going into the night but our server was knowledgeable and helped us pick out a carafe (well, two ;) that we really enjoyed. Excited to go back!

Yelp
Great ambience. Small intimate space. World-class band the night I went. Very chill vibe because of the coziness of the venue. Menu prices are exactly what I'd expect from this kind of place. Wine bottles starting at $55 (and up and up from there). Didn't try the small plates as we had done dinner before. Overall, a good experience that I'd go back to (after checking the lineup. I think it'd be much less enjoyable if the artist wasn't to your liking.)

Em C.

Yelp
Strange vibe, trying hard (and encouraged us to instagram), wedding-type band, 2oz wine pours, low quality cocktails. I wouldn't go back. Essentially, I agree with everything the first reviewer wrote.

Yelp
The worst service I have EVER experienced. Sarah the bar tender was beyond rude and didn't even offer me a drink ( I sat at the bar) I asked for a non alcoholic beer and she just said no. She never asked me if I wanted anything else period. The woman should be fired. She is VERY bad for business.
