"There are a few great reasons to head to Spokesman Coffee at The Yard in South Austin—plentiful seating, lots of parking, and coffee that’s roasted in-house. But the best reason to visit is for the Glacier Freeze Gatorade on tap, innocently blending in with the rest of the draft beer list until its neon-blue hue gives it away. It’s also carbonated and incredibly refreshing, in case you need a palate cleanser between shots of espresso. Because getting sh*t done is a sport on its own, and we once read something about electrolytes and physical activity. Spokesman also has a second location in Highland." - Nicolai McCrary

Really fun coffee shop with phenomenal staff. Even with the most vague description ever ("I want something sweet, not that sweet, but also something new"), our barista worked magic! She took the time to walk us through options and was kind to everyone we saw during our study session. The drinks were great (and well-priced, too)! Highly recommend this spot.

Google
Vibe- This is a nice coffee shop with seating outside and inside. There’s very cool art all around on the walls! Customer service- great! Food/drinks- I got a matcha with lavender and it was good :) Parking- There’s plenty of spots in the lot

I stumbled upon this coffee shop and really enjoyed it! It has a chic vibe and wasn’t overly crowded, making it a great spot for a little work. My only suggestion would be to offer more milk options, as they don’t currently have nonfat milk, which would be helpful for those with dietary restrictions.

Google
A nice place with great-tasting coffee. I enjoyed the atmosphere, though it felt a bit small and lacked open space. The staff were friendly, and the tap beer selection was decent.

I've been coming here for like, I don't know, 4 years now. The baristas are SO personable. The shop is full of great people and they're always doing their best to make everyone feel welcome. The people here know their shit and put a lot of care and attention into their coffee and it's some of the best I've had in Austin. The vibes are great, the music's great, and they even have a "Vinyl night" where you can bring your own music. If you're a remote worker like I am they have plenty of plugs and the wifi has been fairly reliable for me. I take calls here all the time. It's also within walking distance of ACC if you're a student. The place is a bit hidden away, but it's within walking distance of several good shops. The Brewtorium next door is a great place to eat dinner after you've grabbed your coffee and on the opposite side there's a Rock climbing gym named Crux. Blue Genie also will have seasonal art bazaars and is one of my favorite places to find gifts and knicknacks. In general, Spokesman is one of my favorite places in Austin and I wish more people knew about it.

Google
This coffee shop is connected to a rock climbing gym which is pretty cool. Awesome wall art, cool concept. It’s super cold in here so bring a jacket. I saw multiple people working from their computers but the atmosphere feels very cold, empty and colorless. Seats aren’t comfortable and it doesn’t feel cozy or welcoming. If you like that then this is the place for you to study/work! Overall coffee was good and bathrooms were clean.

Google
Happy to visit this Northern spokesman coffee after enjoying the one in South Austin. Thrilled they continued the graffiti art style I loved so much in the other location. This spot had an upstairs and is adjacent to a climbing place and a brewery, making for a whole day of fun. There's plenty of street parking beyond the lot.

Google
I came here due to Austinites 101 Passport. This is my first passport visit and the experience has been really good. This is very nice place with plenty of parking as its same complex with other venues. The staff is very friendly and coffee was great. I will visit this place again.

Courtney C.

Yelp
Vibe- This is a nice coffee shop with seating outside and inside. There's very cool art all around on the walls! Customer service- great! Food/drinks- I got a matcha with lavender and it was good :) Parking- There's plenty of spots in the lot

Yelp
I've been knowing about Spokesman for quite some time and I finally had the chance to run in for some desperately needed caffeination. Man, was I missing out. The second I walked in, I was captivated by the graffiti-styled art lining every inch of the walls. As always, I love a well lit space to study in and it had plenty of natural lighting and seating. The barista taking my order was relaxed and kind, and my freshly made iced latte was out in a jiff. I was sad to leave so quickly, but I'm so glad I took a chance and came in to try it. Next time I'll definitely be back to hang for a bit.

Yelp
Stopped by Spokesman Coffee for a quick caffeine fix, and it did not disappoint! The vibe is amazing--perfect for getting work done with plenty of seating, including an upstairs mezzanine. They have WiFi, and my vanilla latte was solid. Definitely worth a visit!

Allison C.

Yelp
The coolest little coffee shop tucked in the same building as Crux Climbing. They have the coolest spray paint art on all of the walls. Every inch is something different and I could spend hours looking at everything drawn. Their 2nd floor overlooks the climbing gym which is ideal for people watching if you get tired at looking at the art. I tried their seasonal blueberry latte and it was delicious and perfect for a rainy cold day. They didn't seem to have too many seating options and the ones they had were geared toward smaller groups so keep that in mind if you are planning to stop by with a large party.

Blair V.

Yelp
I was in search of a coffee shop to check out but also do a little studying and stubbled upon Spokesman prior to visiting. It is nestled between Crux Climbing and Brewtorium that is not too far from Airport Blvd. There is plenty of parking in a lot as well as on street parking. The space is open plan with a mezzanine level filled with seating. Since the space has high ceilings and has more of a studio vibe, it does echo and it can get be loud for a coffee shop but it shouldn't be a problem if you have headphones. Limited seating below, more like benches. I appreciate how they have wall plug outlets along the bench and free wifi! I only give this place four stars because my taco was not hot even though it was in a food warmer. The almond joy latte was good but it didn't scream almond joy flavor wise. I do appreciate the simplicity of the coffee menu as sometimes it can get overwhelming. This space might not be an ideal spot to study but a cool spot to hang out with its spray painted drawings/murals along the walls!

Tracey Z.

Yelp
Great study spot! Love the seating options and the vibe is great. I got the mint matcha and it was pretty good. I couldn't taste much mint at all but still tasty. Also a pro, if you have crux membership you get a discount!

Charlize L.

Yelp
As a broke college student, I'm always on the search for a good coffee spot where I can set up and study. I was doing a little bit of research as to where I would go and stumbled upon Spokesman on Yelp. The reviews seemed promised, so I thought, "Why not?" and took a bus to get here. The ambiance here is really cool. I love the artwork on the walls and the upstairs study area. However, there are a couple things I'm not really a fan of. There aren't any outlets upstairs and very few downstairs, (2) as to what I could observe. I got matcha, and honestly, I thought it tasted about the same as Lucky Lab's Matcha Lavender. I won't say that I hated the drink because I did like it, but I was a little underwhelmed by the taste of the matcha itself. I knew that it was going to be kind of pricey, but I was a little surprised to see how small it is--maybe like 1 cup worth of drink. If you're going for a cute study area, come here. If you're looking for good drinks, try considering other options.

Kathy Z.

Yelp
I'd never noticed this coffee shop right next to the Brewtorium, but I was very impressed with their coffee drinks. I had a Gourdzilla, and it was perfect! Inside they had plenty of seating with more space upstairs. The service was friendly and quick. I'll definitely be back to try more of their drinks.

Heather M.

Yelp
I came here with my Austin coffee passport and enjoyed it! The vibes inside are so cool and filled with artsy touches - like all the murals and bike handles for taps! The barista was very nice and I liked the flavor of my ginger latte! I will definitely be back again next time I'm in town to try more menu items and enjoy looking at the murals in the cafe!

Olivia M.

Yelp
Coffee was good. Music is far too loud. I asked for them if there was anyway we could turn it down two notches and they said they always leave it at that level. I doubt that.

Rishi P.

Yelp
Wanted to work elsewhere and this was the spot as it had plenty of seating up, down and outside. Also quiet indoors. Very friendly staff as they made my latte and explained the unique breakfast menu. I had the kerlaches which I've never had and it was so good. I could've had more. I had a ginger latte which was a good serving. I mistake was made but wasn't a big deal, however I liked how they acknowledged it and were making another one without asking me as I didn't catch it. However I politely declined as it was not a big deal and minor milk substitute.

Khian R.

Yelp
This coffee house is my new Austin favorite. I tried a lavender vanilla latte and it was delicious . The baristas were really nice and our order came out quickly. We decided to hang inside and finish our drinks. Nice noise level so we didn't have to yell over each other to talk. Lots of cool art all over the walls . There is lots of seating with an open area upstairs with more seating.

Kate Z.

Yelp
I work from Spokesman from time to time, as it has wifi and some seating downstairs and upstairs. The music can be loud but usually it's at a nice level, which is nice for a chatting with friends or working. There's a good selection of beverages and snacks, so if you're not feeling coffee, there's probably still something for you. It's conveniently located right next to Crux, so I come here from time to time before/after climbing.

Jordyn M.

Yelp
I really enjoy the lighting and how the place is decorated, I feel like I'd love to come and work or read here. Ordered 2 iced lattes one with vanilla and the other with caramel, service was fairly quick and I'd come back again.

brenton m.

Yelp
I love Spokesman! They have great drinks and for me I love the art style they have inside the cafe. Just a cool spot to hang out

Guy S.

Yelp
Comfortable. Quiet. I was just there for a quick business meeting so I only had coffee, but it was fine.

Jessica G.

Yelp
I knew I was going to like this place! At first I couldn't find it because it's sandwiched between two other businesses but they're all apart of the same building. This place is the perfect environment for getting some work done or coming with a friend and hanging out. It also overlooks a climbing gym which is so cool! Service was decent, friendly but quiet which I don't mind. I ordered an iced vanilla latte and I liked it. A little on the sweet side but overall really good. I can't wait to come back and try other drinks on the menu!

Meagan R.

Yelp
Came in for a matcha on my way to work, unsweeted with whole milk- it was decent! Some chunks of matcha powder once I got about halfway through. Inside is cool, easy to get to, barista was friendly

Grace I.

Yelp
I absolutely loved this coffee shop! I worked there for a couple hours, and managed to get a lot done because it wasn't horribly busy. The ambiance was quiet and good to get some work in!! I had a simple iced matcha latte, and it was perfect to have to focus and enjoy as I got work done. The staff was kind and attentive, and I hope i get to see them again soon!

Amy F.

Yelp
Funky place to grab a cup of joe! Coffee was pretty good, but not outstanding. There is an upstairs area that overlooks the Crux gym so that's a pretty cool site. Seating is mostly wood so not the comfiest of places - I probably would not be here for long study sessions. However, I do think it's a great place to study/work at if you're putting in long hours at the gym

Md N.

Yelp
A very fun looking place with lots of wall art. The matcha was delicious. The wifi was good and there were also lots of seats and outlets. Solid study spot! Just a bit dark in the downstairs area.

Minly L.

Yelp
Spokesman is a fun and solid spot. Baristas are always very welcoming and friendly. There is wifi so you can work, but the music does get loud (great rock music). Great coffee and breakfast tacos. I always enjoy hanging out here.

Niharika G.

Yelp
Stopped by for a latte, and was wowed by the artwork. It's a cozy little shop, and the balcony has a view of the climbers at the bouldering gym next door. Latte was tasty. Also got an iced chai, which was a little spicy chocolate milk for my taste but more or less what I've come to expect from American chai. They had a movie playing on projector on the second floor, which added a nice visual effect, but not sure if it would be distracting if I was trying to grab a seat and get work done.

Jose O.

Yelp
The blackberry latte here is INSANE. It's one of the more memorable lattes I've ever had and have been craving another one nonstop. The atmosphere here is really cool and I dig the graffiti all over the walls. The staff is super upbeat and really helpful. My one minor gripe is that I did not enjoy the chai at all, but even then, I would gladly return.

Mia S.

Yelp
Late start today - but found another coffee shop to meet my evening work needs! Spokesman coffee shares a building with the Brewtorium and Crux Climbing Center. The upstairs area actually has windows overlooking the climbing area. All three businesses share a decent sized free parking lot in addition to a good amount of street parking. I ordered an Iced Vanilla Latte and while they do have two choices of espresso the attendant did not ask or mention which would be in my drink. Regardless the espresso was sweet with a well balanced fruity and nutty flavor - if you try to avoid the more bitter coffee flavors this is a good espresso for you. I will say my 12oz latte was $5.55 which is a little higher than most places I have been lately. The coffee served and sold here is all roasted locally in Austin. Furthermore - everything sold here (from wine, to beers on tap, as well as the canned and bottled beverages) is from locally owned companies and made right here in Austin. So its really neat to see a local business supporting so many other companies in the area! The atmosphere is pretty casual and laid back. You can see in my photos the walls are all black and white graffiti style characture art (also by a local artist). There is some seating at the bar as well as on the main level with additional seating both outside and upstairs. I wouldn't consider it an abundance of seating but there was plenty of open space at least during my visit. Tables are a bit small if you are hoping to spread out at all though. Also worth mentioning - they have a "double happy hour" M-F from 12-3 and again from 6-9 featuring $3 pints. Overall they are a neat local business supporting various other small companies in the area. The coffee was really great quality and while it was on the higher end of price for the area I will definitely be back.

Carolyn L.

Yelp
Dropped in on my way to the Blue Genie Christmas Bazaar and as always, Spokesman Highland didn't disappoint. Delicious coffee, chill ambiance and welcoming baristas! I don't get here often enough. If you are in the area take the time to drop in and enjoy your coffee.

Edwyn A.

Yelp
A cute two story coffee shop located in between the crux climbing center and the Brewtorium. There's a huge shared parking lot that is surprisingly full on the weekdays; I assume that some of the parking is taken up by the nearby attractions since it was the middle of weekday. There are also a few parking spots out front. I ordered a mint matcha latte which was pretty good. The milk wasn't too hot and the matcha made it dark green. There were a couple of orders ahead so there was a slight wait but nothing crazy. The espresso bar is on the first floor and they also have a few beers on draft as well. There's also a number of seating options by the window and against the wall. There's also a cool second floor that has a view of the climbing center as well as several tables. There's an extension cord by the seats in the back of the second floor if you need juice. WiFi connection information is on the board on the first floor and second floor. As for ambiance - lots of early 2000s techno - this is your night!

Doug K.

Yelp
This review is for the coffee. I had two americanos with separate espresso roasts. Both were great. Service was friendly. I also had a croissant which was decent. It came with a tiny bit of pretension (multiple espresso roasts with tasting notes). But overall this was informative and well placed. Refreshingly it did not take long for them to make. Two great cups of coffee with limited wait time? Five stars.

Serena N.

Yelp
Loved their coffee! It was yummy and creamy! The space was whimsical and inviting with friendly baristas! There was also plenty of parking so that was a win! Loved all the fun walls!

Sunny P.

Yelp
Spokesman has such an eclectic energy that it's hard to stay away (easy parking is also a bonus)! The bright yet cozy spot invites you to sip and stay awhile. Their lattes are my favorite, and they taste like putting on your coziest sweater on a cold day. They offer alcoholic beverages and snacks if in need. Sometimes their parking lot will house cool shit like Austin Flea. So grab a cup and venture over.

Art C.

Yelp
This is probably the best coffee restaurant and roastery in Austin. Even better, out of the literally hundreds of coffee spots we've visited everywhere, I'd also put these guys pretty high on that list. We had not one, but two different cappuccino roasts. They were so different but still very, very excellent. We normally don't sit around drinking coffee for too long, but these we took our time to savor. Great ambiance here and just top-notch coffee. Not to be missed...

Elizabeth G.

Yelp
Grabbed Togo coffee today - pumpkin and ginger seasonal iced latte SO good. Ambiance cool and great service with some good recommendations. Not a ton of seating but we were on our way out anyways!

Tomas R.

Yelp
The drawings on the wall are basically a visual for my thought process and what goes on in my mind. It looks chaotic at first but if you take the time to look, you'll see it's actually quite interesting and there's a lot to see. Spokesman - Highland is neatly tucked away in an industrial cul de sac that is next to a milk factory (yes, you read that right), but more importantly a brewery! There's a few parking spots right in front so I was able to snag one and walk up the few steps to get here. Their menu is immediately to your right and you can walk up to the counter to order. I love how high the ceilings were and the back glass windows give you a sneak into the rock climbing gym business. Take the time to walk upstairs and grab a seat for a more intimate feel. Just be aware there weren't many outlets on the second floor, so plan accordingly! Now for those of us that need a bite, they do have breakfast tacos and a few other items to munch. My beverage of choice was their cold brew black and damnnnn was this a clean roast. It wasn't watered down whatsoever and genuinely enjoyed both glasses. It was nice to see minimalism yet artistic industrial feel to this coffee shop. I'll definitely be back.

Daywah S.

Yelp
Spokesman highland location is one of the best places to enjoy a nice cup of coffee and study. There are two floors that you can choose to sit at and they typically have open seats around. If you dine in, the baristas give you these cute glass cups to drink from. All in all, the vibe, ambiance and service is top tier and it's conveniently located right next to ACC highland! I usually get their iced caramel latte but they have many different options to chose from. Super dope place, highly recommend!

Christine H.

Yelp
Spokesman in Highland was modern and hipster. Vivid and bold caricatures danced across the walls while loud music blast across the speakers. I arrived slightly after their happy hour. By then, they had sold out of all of their tacos and pastries which was disappointing. Their menu offered a wide selection of coffee and beer. I ordered a Hans Pilsner which was cold, crisp, and bright. The pros were that the place is family friendly, minimalistic, and generally clean. The cons were the slow wifi, the abundance of drain flies, and the lack of backing on chairs.

Megan L.

Yelp
My friend and I came in today, and we were so impressed with their coffee! It's not frequent that we take a sip of our drinks and comment in amazement, but that was exactly what we did when we picked up our coffee. My iced matcha latte was definitely on the expensive side (~$6) and came in a pretty tiny cup, but it was one of the best matcha lattes I've ordered in Austin. My friend ordered a drip coffee, and he said the acidity and balance was perfect. The inside of Spokesman is really unique! It seems like a great place to study, and they're open later than many other Austin coffee shops. I would definitely come back again.

Dorris W.

Yelp
The coffee shop is very nicely situated with plenty of parking. Outside there are benches and tables to work or eat on. Inside they had art all over the walls giving it an urban ambiance. There is also a window wall to see into the climbing gym next door which I thought was cool. I got myself an oat latte and I was really disappointed since the barista had made such a nice leaf design. My coffee came out tasting sour so it was definitely under extracted and the oat milk itself tasted watery. The latte reminded me of the coffee I get in hotel rooms from a Keurig machine. I would maybe go back to try something else besides the coffee.

Samuel C.

Yelp
Entertainment value - Five Stars Coffee - Two Stars Long Term Place to Work - Two Stars Keep Austin Weird - Six Stars ********** Spokesman Coffee is for all intents and purposes an appendage of the Crux Climbing Center next door. This is one of those artificial rock wall centers Where people learn how to climb mountains Being able to fall on to a mat rather than off of a cliff. The second floor has huge wrap around windows where you can see the climbers in action. Watching the climbers is like watching blooper out-takes from American Ninja. People are just learning how to climb the rock walls. Climbing rock walls is hard. There are a lot of shenanigans trying to get up to the next nub. There are a lot of shenanigans trying to stay on the old nub. People go down a lot. They go down a lot in harmless but entertaining ways. For artistic contrast, there are also the buff ballet dancers of the indoor climbing world. They are elegant, athletic, and can do all sorts of suave sophisticated moves. They look even more elegant and athletic because Zeppo and Mimi, Both Rank 1 Amateurs, Are doing Three Stooges stuff trying to get up to the third nub. * * * If you are not here to watch the Brave Buffoons Falling Off the Wall Show, then the stock of Spokesman goes way down. The coffee is terrible. I had an almost tasteless espresso. The taste that was there was less than wonderful. My wife did not finish her cafe au lait. She didn't like the coffee itself. She didn't like the sweetened alt-milk that had been put in it. Breakfast tacos were acceptable, but not worth leaving the house for. As a work place, the tables are very very small. You will work hard to fit your coffee, your food and your laptop all on the same postage stamp. Worse - most seating stations have no backs. This is by probably by design. They don't have many seats. They want to encourage you to move along So someone else can buy some coffee and pay the rent. There are also some people who can work on backless stools for hours. I am not one of them. My lower back gives out over time. My back gives out over time because of the unusually weighty thoughts I have while I write. These require extra furniture support. If you don't like the previous explanation, You can go with Samuel C. being old and washed up. He needs a chair so he doesn't fall over while drooling. Either way, if I am going to get work done, I am going to need better furniture. Internet provision is very good though. Give Spokesman credit for that. The spray paint job on the walls? All the more reason to watch the climbers. If you look at the walls, you could hurt your eyes. * * * Overall, there are more negatives than positives at Spokesman. But watching the climbers IS a riot. If you are working on your grand masterpiece on "THE DECLINE AND FALL" You might be able to do that here. You can write about the climbers falling off the rock face. You can write about yourself falling off your stool. You can write about your espresso cup falling off your microtable. You can write about how standards in coffee making have fallen off. If you are there to study for your chemistry exam at ACC, Your grades may end up falling off too.

West A.

Yelp
It was my first time here. Came in and they had mentioned their expresso machine was down. So I went ahead and order a medium matcha. Got charged for a large matcha and received a small matcha. Good thing I looked at my receipt and went and ask them about it. The music was too loud to have a conversation with my guest. Most likely will not return to this location. The main barista was too busy yapping about random stuff and didn't get my order right the first time.

Sara P.

Yelp
Ambiance and decor was unique! You can grab a coffee and sit upstairs with a view of people climbing in the Climbing Center next door. Coffee itself was expensive and mediocre. Music was fun but too loud for actually working.

Julia L.

Yelp
When I first walked into the coffee shop, I was wowed by the graffiti even though I already saw the photos beforehand! Definitely a different vibes than most coffee shops. The baristas were also very friendly! Easy to find parking space as well! Only lacking part would be not much seatings + charging stations.

Wayne N.

Yelp
This place is as Austin as Austin gets. The spray paint decor really works and the space is cozy but a good place to work in if you need a place to study or work remote. The drinks at the Spokesman are excellent. I ordered a caramel iced latte and it was very good. The milk options are on the lower end (whole, almond, oat), but the coffee is clean and flavorful and the caramel sweet enough but not overpowering. That said, prices are on the high side for a drink, especially for the size of the drink. It's definitely treat or entertainment coffee and not an everyday affair. Still, when those times roll around, more than happy to get my pick me up at the Spokesman.

Tanushri S.

Yelp
Checked out this hip little joint this week to have a reading date night with my spouse. It's very neat and I tried their spring special latte with hibiscus and rose! I would say it was pretty good. Not too sweet, just the right amount of syrup and coffee for my liking! The barista also made this beautiful latte art!! A little too loud to read peacefully but I'll definitely be back to check some of their other offerings! Also the staff is very sweet!

Ayla V.

Yelp
Super cute and it's cool that it's connected to crux but I wish there was more seating. The drinks are always so tasty, highly recommend their matcha! Just a personal preference the St.Elmo location just has more room for people to sit and hang whereas this one felt more like grab and go. But at the Highland location there was outdoor bar seating and some picnic tables which was appreciated! The art is very similar to the St.Elmo location but I missed seeing the anime on tv! Ultimately very good vibes but different purposes? Parking was easy!

Natalie K.

Yelp
Got the iced lavender latte with oat milk, pretty solid. Would like to try more drinks here

Stanley D.

Yelp
Sitting and drinking an Americano at this moment and it's really freaking good. Good vibes, what Austin used to feel like.

Bobby H.

Yelp
Solid spot, just wish it was open a little later. There are two 24/7 coffee shops nearby that get so busy you can't find a seat and having a third place would be nice. That aside, good coffee.

Alexa C.

Yelp
No charge for milk alternatives!!! That's the way it should be. The barista was very sweet here. Sunday afternoon crowd, so not crazy. Will say it's one of the more louder coffee shops as you would just need noise cancelling headphones to focus on here. However, if I wanted to catch up with friends and talk shit you know. This is the place. Got an iced vanilla latte with oat milk because it HIT. Do not know the seating situation upstairs but looked nice.

Janette G.

Yelp
Visiting Austin and found this gem! Great coffee, great music! Definitely coming back to try the beers
