this was the first time i felt comfortable eating at a bakery. i have a nut allergy and this is 100% free of all nuts so there’s no risk for cross-contamination. i am so grateful for this bakery! i enjoyed the vanilla & devil’s food cake cupcakes while my boyfriend had the lemon & lavender and carrot cake. we couldn’t wait to eat them so there’s one missing but honestly they were quite yummy! they are a little on the expensive side $6.50 a cupcake but i completely understand given the precautions and ingredients needed. i’m from out of town but moving here soon so i plan on returning. this will be a go to spot for me.

This bakery is such a hidden gem. Everything is allergy-friendly which is amazing for my family. The cupcakes and cookies taste incredible without missing a thing. Staff was kind and helpful with suggestions. The shop smells so good and is very inviting. I’ll be back often for treats. Starry Lane Bakery is a must visit.

i got cupcakes from this bakery and i was blown away by how delicious they were! the consistency was perfect: moist + light and the flavors were incredible. what really impressed me was that these cupcakes are allergen-free, even though i don’t have any allergies myself, i truly appreciated the care they put into making these treats accessible to everyone. best of all, they were even more flavorful than your average cupcake! both adults and kids loved them, including our pickiest eater who couldn’t get enough.

I was a little apprehensive about trying gluten free baked goods, but these were quite good! They weren't dry and crumbly as some gluten free things were. I got a Neapolitan cupcake, maple bar, chocolate chip muffin, and lemon cake. I was pleasantly surprised:) I will definitely be back

Hands down the best allergy friendly bakery in all of San Diego (possibly the entire US as well- I’ve tried a few different bakeries in different places and so far Starry Lane always wins). I LOVE that a place like this exists and has given those of us with severe food sensitives and allergies a safe place to order delicious baked items without worry or fear. Before I found Starry Lane Bakery, I had not had a cupcake, a brownie, a cookie, a slice of bread or anything even remotely resembling a baked good for YEARS. I ate the same few foods everyday and truly believed I would never have another baked good in my life. When I first looked up Starry Lane, I cried. SOBBED. UGLY CRIED. And when I walked in and saw all of the options? My brain almost exploded. Because not only is this bakery gluten free, they are top 8 allergy free. And that’s what I needed. For those of you who may not have food sensitivities or allergies, let me tell you: this is incredibly rare and often times, hard to find. It’s even harder to find a bakery that does this well. At this point I’ve been coming to Starry Lane Bakery for almost 4 years. I’ve slowly worked my way through my menu; I’ve carefully tried almost everything they have to offer. And my verdict? Everything is delicious. Yes, I will always choose a chocolate cupcake over a lemon raspberry torte but the torte is still delicious. And safe. The staff is amazing, and always has time to carefully explain and go over any questions I may have. And more importantly, they are protective of the bakery and ensuring it is allergy safe. They keep a close eye on all individuals who enter and make sure they are not bringing in outside food or beverages that may contaminate the bakery and put the workers or customers at risk. And because I’ve seen one too many reviews of individuals who cannot comprehend this simple, basic concept and feel that they are entitled to do whatever they they want: the bakery itself has around a dozen signs all explaining you CANNOT bring outside into the bakery before you even step foot inside. In short: Starry Lane Bakery is the best. Their baked good are always delicious, they are proud of and always helping their local community and giving those with food allergies a voice.

I am a vegan, visiting San Diego, from the east coast and craving vegan friendly pastries. I Used google to find a store near me and located Elevated Coffee + Confections. Even better, the shop was conveniently located. I ordered the cinnamon buns and sweet potato biscuits, one with and without jalapeños. The staff were excellent, friendly and knew the products well. I have some funky dietary restrictions and the ingredients of the pastries were explained and I was able to make my selections. I cannot say which pastry was the best but I will say I returned to the bakery the next day for more. I would highly recommend you stopping by this tucked away gem when you are in beautiful San Diego.

What a gift! Our son has life threatening egg/peanut/tree nut allergies. He’s never had the experience of being able to walk into a bakery let alone being able to pick something out of the case and eat it safely. We were traveling and found Starry Lane online. What an absolute treat. We got cupcakes, pretzel roll, cookies, brownies (my personal favorite) and a cinnamon roll. Everything was delicious. Sometimes when you get allergy free items or vegan items taste is lacking or it’s “chalky” this was not the case at Starry Lane. Items were full of flavor, great crunch, moist, etc. Thank you Starry Lane!

I typically never get to enjoy delicious pasteries due to my health and your bakery has made it possible for me to enjoy delicious treats.  Your bakery was the first that allowed me to be able to enjoy foods that I witness people devour all the time.  3x I had your pastries... in less than one week and I loved them!  The flavors come through so well, the cakes are moist, the biscotties are flavorful, the breads are so tender and heavenly. I love everything I have ever ordered from your bakery. Especially the triple chocolate oatmeal cookies. Thank you for the delicious treats!

Prolly the only place in SD that make baked goods that are free of major allergens which include: gluten, dairy, egg, soy, tree nuts and peanuts. Check the full list of ingredients for each item in their website.. So far, we've tried the flatbread, molasses bread, pretzel bread and chocolate chip cookies -they are all surprisingly amazing. They will tell you also to NOT refrigerate them. I like to stick 'em in the microwave for about 10-15 sec to warm the bread and it is just perfect! They typically last about 3 days. I have tried their chocolate cupcake and brownies, those were ok to me but hey, coming from someone who bakes, and have dietary restrictions... the breads and cookies are truly exceptional. They definitely got the texture down... sometimes i forget that i'm eating a GF bread. I can say this is def at the top of my list of best! And the fact that is egg free and soy free also, it is def a winner!

Purchased some treats with friends. The cupcakes weren't good at all. Also tried one of the berry tortes - gross. We ended up tossing the cupcakes. Not sure if it was just a bad batch or what, but there are better places around that have options for those with allergies or dietary restrictions. The service was mediocre at best. I asked a few questions about the cupcakes and the cashier was dismissive and somewhat rude. Ambiance was bland. Bottom line - quality and value just wasn't there.

My mom treated us with some pastries from this allergen friendly bakery. We enjoyed the scone and the cupcake the best. The fruit tarts were a bit dry and the frosting was too sweet. I tried there pastries one other time before and if I recall it was there cupcakes. They are vegan and gluten free friendly since they don't use eggs or dairy among other things. Their base is a corn flour. Definitely check this place out if you're in the area. It's a great option for people with allergies or dietary restrictions.

The gluten free bread is amazing! Soft and delicious. You don't even need to warm or toast it to love it.

Extremely friendly and great service. I had to order a birthday cake for someone who was dairy and gluten free. They recommended a chocolate cake with double raspberry... OMG it was fabulous!

I was in search for a gluten free bakery that could make a custom wedding cake, and Starry Lane delivered! It was so easy to place my custom order with them and they thoughtfully considered the inspiration photos I sent them. Not only was it an elegant cake, but it tasted amazing too. We got a vanilla cake with espresso cream filling and it was delicious. We were thinking we'd save the rest of our cake for our anniversary, but we couldn't wait and took it out of the freezer sooner! :)

This place is definitely worth the price. A Little more pricey than your standard bakery but really not by much considering the quality! The service was fantastic and the cupcakes delicious! Totally recommend!

We were on vacation and saw this place as we were passing through the neighborhood. We were excited because our family has some food allergies. However, we were quickly disappointed. We were not greeted even though we said hello first. Then the 2 workers just stared at us. We started to ask a question when one of the workers told us we couldn't have our bottled water in the store. Then they just looked at us blankly so we walked out. I'm not sure why the instant rudeness towards us. Maybe this business doesn't like people of color or people in general.

Finding a gluten free and tree nut free bakery is absolutely amazing when you have a child who is both. The gal working was so kind and knowledgeable. We tried about 5 different things- the cinnamon rolls (delicious!) and pretzel roll were our favorites, both my kids were not fans of the cupcakes. Would like to try the cookies next!

It does all the things, walking distance in Hillcrest, great hours and allergen free. I found this place looking for vegan bakery and it does the trick but not my favorite. I want this to be better but it's also really hard to bake without all those ingredients

Ordered a variety of cupcakes for a Vegan staff member's birthday. Everyone loved the cupcakes and glad we found a bakery that catered to individuals with allergies or restricted diets!

I ordered a cake for my sons first birthday party and Starry Lane Bakery did not disappoint! I ordered the cake the day before the event and they were able to accommodate as well as make suggestions of cake flavors, fillings, colors, and decorations. The cake was absolutely massive and so delicious! We went with vanilla with strawberry preserves. I'm so pleased with how smooth the ordering process was and how incredible the vegan cake was. Such a cute bakery in Hillcrest. Bobby, Joe, and jaimee were incredibly helpful. I bought a beautiful little torte for my friends birthday and some star cookies. Wooden utensils.

As I've gotten older, I've learned I'm not a cupcake/cake person, so I can't provide a review on those, however the pretzel rolls are absolutely delicious. The cinnamon rolls are okay, but for people with allergies a solid 7/10. The chocolate torte is good, lemon bar is good, oatmeal cookie is good. Do some other places have "better" gluten free items? They do. But this place completely eliminates any chance of cross contamination and that is rare and really gives some people the chance to walk into a bakery and pick something from the counter without fear and I think it's a solid option!!

DELICIOUS! You'd never know it was vegan and all that special needs stuff. I was fearful it would taste bad or lack taste even, but it tasted just as good as a real cake! The ladies were super helpful and made ordering a breeze. 10/10 would highly recommend!

My friend got me this cake for my birthday and it was seriously so good!! I can't believe it's gluten free and dairy free. It tasted just like a normal cake. Very rich in chocolate flavor!

Came in yesterday after finding this bakery on my gluten free app, I'm celiac and have a dairy and egg sensitivity so finding good baked goods is so difficult but this place blew me away! Super tasty and the woman who helped us out was so sweet and very informative, made the whole experience that much better. I highly recommend the Carmel chocolate brownie and the campfire cupcake. We will definitely be back to try more!

BEST gluten-free and dairy free desserts in San Diego. Even if you don't have any allergies or food sensitivities, I still highly recommend coming here. I really like their cookies, brownies, and fruit tarts. Their cupcakes and cakes are also good too. You really can't go wrong with any of their items and I love that you can order in advance online if you don't feel like waiting.

Location, customer service, hours, and selection were all excellent. I was disappointed in the ingredients, however. I wish they would use natural sweeteners like maple syrup or stevia instead of refined sugar. I also found out too late that they put coffee in many of their items (I think all chocolate items?). I am extremely sensitive to caffeine and I feel like there should've been a label noting this. I tried the pretzel roll, molten caramel brownie, and the campfire cupcake. Pretzel roll was 9/10 very good and fluffy, got very slightly gummy towards the end. Would be amazing with some honey mustard! Caramel brownie was 4/10, very oily and rich. Campfire cupcake was insanely sweet but good and very fluffy. I had half the brownie and the cupcake and then started having heart palpitations, checked the ingredients on their website and realized it was from the added coffee. Sucks that I still have to check every single ingredient even at an allergen-free bakery.

100% gluten free! Wow what an amazing treat. And the options between sweet and savory made it even better. I haven't eaten a pretzel bun in SO long but finally got to!

What a cute little shop with sweet ladies. They have such a variety I ended up spending more than $70 on just bakery treats. Most shops wanna close 15-20 minutes before closing time. And we were cutting it close to closing time. But these ladies were SUPER SWEET AND PROFESSIONAL. I'm visiting from L. A county and wanted some treats for my bday so I'm super glad I came here. I did hear a conversation where one of the ladies was on the phone leaving a nice professional message for a customer about willing to wait or giving them the option of picking up next day. Honestly it even taught me better customer service skills for my job as a dog groomer in Whittier CA Thank ladies so the EXCELLENT EXPERIENCE. Go early in the day. They tend to sell out. I ordered things I wouldn't normally order, but I was excited to have so many options. They are top 10 allergy free. Everything is vegan! Everything is gluten-free! The sad part is is that is not process, sugar-free, but you can really only alter so many ingredients. I ordered a carrot cake cupcake, and a sugar cookie. Both were a super sweet treat for myself. we also ordered the focaccia that was a bit oily, the flavor was OK. But we're going to heat it up and make it a pizza. I'm expecting that to be more flavorful when it's warm. Again go early in the day for the best selection. Also, the staff was pretty helpful and answering questions that we had. Oh, they do have several signs about not bringing your own food or drink in. It even says it's not to be rude, but they are just trying to keep any allergens out of the space. So, they are super serious about making it an allergy free space.

Went on a trip near the store and was happy to find their store. My daughter can't have gluten and the woman in the front was so knowledgeable and patient and helpful when my daughter asked her questions about the menu. I live 3 hours away, and will definitely stop by when I'm in the area. I still think of how happy my daughter was when she tried the items.

Anytime we travel down to San Diego we are sure to stop by this bakery. I love their gluten and dairy free pretzel rolls. They have many other delicious desserts that we have tried as well.

I need to eat gluten free and it's particularly difficult to find a bakery that's this dedicated to eliminating cross-contamination, which they are. Have tried almost every GF bakery in the area, we live in San Diego, and have experienced CC at all of them. Not here. So, five stars for that alone. Now, about the pastry. Didn't yet try the baked goods like bread and rolls, and that's next. Walked in with a big desire for chocolate gooey treats and found what I was after. My fav was the chocolate strawberry torte. Wowsa! The helpful person behind the counter responded with full list of useful info, even whipping out a big binder to check. Am sensitive to oats and so wanted to know what to avoid. Love this place!

The best gluten free bread I've ever had! The workers here are always nice too. This is a must go place for anyone looking for good quality of food and service.

Love, Love Love this bakery!!! Food allergies at any age is a show stopper. But when you find a bakery like Starry Lane, well they make a difference. Recently ordered a dozen assorted cupcakes with the flower decor. They were beautiful and my friends birthday was a huge hit. Why? Because she could eat them without an ER visit and they were delicious!

My friend picked me up some cupcakes for my birthday. I'm celiac and also lactose intolerant. I seriously could not believe how insanely good they were. It's hard to find treats that are this delicious and still allergy friendly. Do yourself a favor and check this place out ASAP!

So thrilled to have an allergen-free bakery in the neighborhood! I don't have food allergies, but I find it great that people with dietary restrictions can enjoy pastries too. From a POV of someone who CAN eat the regular stuff, I'll say the pastries here are GREAT! Cinnamon roll was quite different but tasty and those star cookies are just to die for.

Still in search of the best cinnamon rolls in San Diego.. This is gluten free bakery. I thought, ok, why not try it. Maybe I'm missing out. If you are not gluten free, this place may not for you for cinnamon rolls. But if you are gluten free, perfect place to be! It had a texture of cupcake for their cinnamon rolls. The size of it was TINY. Are these for ANTS? I think the flavors were there but the it wasn't satisfying. There limited parking on the streets, but we quickly parked across the parking lot and had no issue. The decor in the place is lacking, it has a lot of potential as the space is fairly large.

My 8 year old son has gluten, dairy, and soy sensitivity. We walked in the store and his eyes lit up! He couldn't believe that he could safely eat anything in the store. That was worth the trouble finding parking in Hillcrest and I've just accepted that any dietary modified foods will come at a cost premium. We don't have a choice, but at least at Starry Lane Bakery I can relax and let my kid enjoy! Excellent service and friendly staff. Would be great if they had espresso or better coffee

If you are gluten free and in San Diego, I wholeheartedly recommend Starry Lane Bakery for their fabulous gluten-free baked goods. They are a % dedicated gluten-free and nut free facility. We love their bread, rolls, cookies, cupcakes, and mini pies. Even my non gluten-free family members love their baked goods. Yes, they ARE that good! Starry Lane is a true gem located in Hillcrest near Scripps Mercy hospital. Their staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. Believe you me, Starry Lane Bakery is the place to go for all of your gluten-free and nut free baked goods. Enjoy.

Recently discovered food sensitivities. Still figuring out what is triggering them. Trying to experiment by removing the most common culprits and reintroducing them to see a reaction. Lucky to live so close to the #1 in the US allergy free bakery. Everything was consumed and didn't have much of a reaction. Great bakery and makes those with different diets feel normal.

I ordered a cake and cupcakes for my baby shower and they did not disappoint. I have Celiac, so I have to eat gluten free, but a majority of my shower guests do not and they still preferred the Starry Lane Bakery items over the gluten loaded desserts. Most gluten free cakes are dry and crumbly, but the lemon cake I got was so moist and soft it was hard to believe. I've also tried their cookies and those are amazing as well. This is an amazing bakery option for people with food allergies to be able to enjoy desserts!

Easily the best gluten free baked goods I've ever had. I'm so sad I don't live in the area anymore because I have yet to find anything comparable. The service is always incredible too. 10/10 would recommend this place even for people who don't have allergies

We were walking by and stopped in get a dessert - first time here. So super impressed. Everything is not only gluten free, and vegan and dairy free, but also top 10 allergen. And they have such a huge selection to choose from. The tightest decision was narrowing it down to two items. You can spend forever just peering in to the fridge windows trying to decide what to get. And they have a bar code that you can scan to get the ingredients for each item. There is no seating inside (but they hope to red-add them again soon). Apparently the bakers get there at 4am to start all the baking. We just got two items but we will be going back regularly as the prices were so good.

Really great pretzel rolls. Really great everything. Whatever we bought here has tasted excellent and the texture has been fantastic. Very nice people at the counter and overall awesome place.

Come here every Saturday for their cinnamon rolls . Great customer service. They have such a nice variety of deserts and breads . With celiac disease I am happy I have found a bakery that is local .

THE BEST VEGAN GLUTEN FREE CUPCAKES EVER!!! My dad got me them for my birthday and oh man they had some good weight to it. Most cupcakes are light and stick to the roof of your mouth, but these cupcakes were to die for. The frosting is amazing as well. I can not get enough of these.

Starry Lane Bakery is a small shop located among the busy streets of this area. Cute, quaint and cozy. They cater to those with common food allergies and/or ingredient intolerance. The staff is friendly, and informative. Proudly stand by their baked goods. They offer an assortment of goodies from your run of the mill cookies to lemon bars, muffins, cupcakes - all the pastries you'd expect from any bakery. The staff is very sweet and informative. If you're looking for sweets catering to those more sensitive to food allergies, definitely stop by this cute spot.

This is the second year I purchase a cake for my birthday here. As someone who has lots of food allergies and loves cake, I have to admit I am very grateful for this place. The cakes are delicious and the employees are helpful and kind. As long as I live in San Diego I know I will buy my cake here. I still need to try their other pastries and sweets.

Leaving a 3 star review only because I feel like the "vegan" options they market are misleading as they are NOT vegan. The workers were kind enough to let me know that they use refined sugars in their items which in fact is processed with bone char. No where in their website does it advocate that they are vegan friendly, just third party sites, so turned out to be disappointed when I came by looking for some vegan pastries and got none :(

I love their pies and tortes the best! I have tried the pumpkin, French silk and cherry pies and they were all delicious. I added vegan whipped topping to the French silk pie because it didn't have enough in my opinion. The molten carmel brownie is also really good. But my absolute favorite is the chocolate strawberry torte!

Absolutely delicious! My daughter has a number of food allergies and we were so happy to find a place that could safely accommodate them. She absolutely loved the fudge brownies and pretzel bread. The staff there were also super friendly and easy to talk to. Overall, I would definitely recommend - even for people who don't have allergies. :)

All gluten-free and high allergy control environment, this is paradise for celiacs and people with allergies. The cookie I ordered was too sweet for my taste. The cherry pie was delicious. However, prices are on the high side for the size portions. I recommend this place.

5 stars for taking allergies very seriously here. They have signs where that ask you not to bring in any outside food or beverages. I didn't know this place was top 10 allergy free, which is AWESOME bc I avoid gluten and dairy. It's also very hard to find bakeries that make both dairy and gluten free desserts. Here's what I got: Mocha cupcake: pretty good. Very sweet so it was nice to share with someone. I wouldn't get it again though Chocolate chip cookie: this was good too, I'd get it again, but I've had better ones that were gluten and dairy free. Perhaps it's not a good comparison since this is top 10 allergy free Brownie: this is probably my favorite. Hard to find gluten free and dairy free brownies so this was yum! It had the closest gluten texture. I would get this again. They also asked me if I wanted the center or edge/corner pieces. I chose center but just as FYI, if you can, pick edge bc gluten free brownies are usually very crumbly. I found the edge was more intact. I can't wait to be back! The ladies at the counter were also super nice. Next time I'll try the chocolate cupcake.
