Enjoyed a delicious meal after a great broadway show at State bar and grill. Ernesto our waiter was wonderful! The wagyu beef pigs in a blanket simply delicious! My NY strip steak was cooked to perfection and the Brussel sprouts were outstanding combination of sweet and spicy in their homemade sauce. I will definitely be returning in the future.. drinks were on point! We sipped on two delicious cocktails and what better way to end a meal then with espresso martinis!

Incredible food, atmosphere and service. Anna at the bar was so kind and welcoming. Calm and quiet even though it’s in a very busy area. Thank you Anna! 11/10 would recommend.

Wow - one of the best dinners we had in NYC! We didn't go up to the top of the ESB but the STATE Grill and Bar is not to be passed by! Our server Jantony made our experience all that much more fun and was really great to us throughout the evening. We enjoyed the food, the ambiance, the drinks, and just the overall time we got to spend in such a beautiful spot. 10/10 would recommend and will definitely be back next time I'm in the big Apple!

EXTREMELY POOR SERVICE. No one introduced themselves as our server or explained any specials. The table we were sat at was extremely wobbly and it was cold in the corner. I ordered the red corn fritters as an appetizer. It was astonishing how poorly made they were. I barely took one bite. The outside was burned brown but the inside was raw batter. There was no seasoning and the sauce on the less than appetizing. The server had the excuse of there being polenta on the inside, but it was raw batter. I returned the plate and requested the burrata and fig crostini as a replacement. It took an extra-ordinate amount of time to come out. My dinner mate had finished their starter. The crostini was okay. When I received the jerk chicken entree It was well seasoned but the portion size was extremely small for the price. The dressing for the side salad was in a questionably cleaned dropper and not enough for the salad. Didn’t bother ordering a dessert. Would not recommend this place. There’s much better restaurants in the city.

Dined on a Friday night with my friends that I have not seen in years. Jay was AMAZING!!! Super chill, patient and kind. We were there 5½ hours and spent over $400. It was worth it!!! Food was really good! We would come back again. Thanks Jay for making it an awesome reunion for us! You're so fantastic!!!!

We enjoyed dinner even though we had to PAY for our NYE (2023) dinner AGAIN as it was not included with the Empire State Building observatory and dinner package which we paid for online. And then, one of our party member ended up with FOOD POISIONING. $119/person = FOOD POISIONING!

We went to the State Grill and Bar as part of our Empire State Building ticket, and what a delicious choice we made. The menu we were able to choose from was deliciously prepared and excellently executed. The steak was perfectly cooked, the oysters were sumptuous, the brussels were perfectly cooked and dessert was divine. The atmosphere was so lovely and the service was expert level. Not to be missed.

I went here for a work event and I have to say the food and service were fabulous. Upon arrival the hostess accompanied me to my area downstairs where I checked in and the server (after being seated) asked what I wanted to drink. The food was delicious.. Salad was fresh the pasta was super good but the desert omg tasty to say the least. The server always had my glass of wine full and offered to put my cake in a to go bin for me.. service was a 10. I would recommend this place. Wish they gave access to the top of the Empire State Building since we dined here lol

First off...this location is on a Ground Floor. Don't expect a restaurant with an amazing view on the50th floor. With that being said, this has been one of the best places I've eaten at in a while. The wife and I had appetizers and a meal here before heading up to view New York from the top of the Empire State building. The tater tots are a must have as they are filled with cheese and have a special sauce on the side. My wife had some sort of steak that was cooked medium well to her liking and I had the jerk chicken that was delicious though I wish the mango habanero sauce had an extra kick to it as it was fairly mild. We finished the night with a slice of chocolate cake as it was my birthday. The bartenders and servers were excellent throughout our 2 hours there.

The sea bass was not very good at all, unfortunately. My husband's steak was just ok. The calamari, Cesar salad, and fries were all good. The blackout cake was good as well. I wish I liked my entree, but the staff are nice and I would return to try other appetizers.

To start off: this restaurant is NOT located at the top of of the Empire State Building. We definitely did not look into this -- apparently, only valentines dinner is at the top. You will definitely get a nice view of the street though. Anyways, the drinks were very good and very strong. I will say the espresso martinis came in very cute empire state building glasses! The food here was surprisingly good. I thought the proportions were very reasonable and the appetizers were great to share. I got the Campanella pasta which was just added to the menu a week ago and normally I'm not a fan of peas in pasta, but I will say this pasta was top notch, especially if you're a fan of crab. The assorted cookies were a night light dessert to share with the table. The service here was pretty decent as well. Our waiter was friendly and gave his honest opinion to the questions we asked. Overall, I think this restaurant is probably one of those spots you go to once for the experience just to cross off the list. I would most likely not go back, but if you're a tourist visiting the empire state building then this could be a spot you go to afterwards.

This place was so amazing ..there's not one bad thing to say about it. I'm very glad I found this gem. and I will be back. The food the food here is too die for. Everything here down to the service is five star. My daughter and I had the best brunch here ever. The staff is the best and the restaurant is super beautiful.

This is the restaurant you get if you book with the Empire State YOU DO NOT GET A VIEW. It's in the lobby adjacent to the Empire State observatory. We felt like we were definitely misled by booking it thinking it was dinner with a view. Don't make the same mistake as a tourist. The food was mediocre I did really like the New York steak.

State Grill and Bar is right on the 1st floor of the Empire State Building and is a great happy hour spot for after work. They don't have sparkling wine for happy hour, but do have wine for $9+ and beers for $7+. Also from Monday to Friday, they have daily happy hour cocktails for $12+. Wednesday is my favorite, which is Aperol Spritz. This week, I came here for a work lunch, which was very nice. The Grilled Branzino ($34+) was delicious and the service was wonderful. It may be pricey for everyday use, but I would highly recommend for a business meal.

Delicious lunch in the Empire State Building - another great restaurant conveniently located on 5th Ave. I got the grain bowl with salmon and my friend got a Caesar salad with shrimp. The chocolate cake was to die for & the mules were so delicious. Will definitely be back!

Had great time. Very nice food and tasty! Great cocktails and even better chocolate desert! Was worth it to stop by for a first time coz I'm sure I will be visiting this place again soon!

Our food was not great. We wanted a a certain dish that they were out of. The restaurant was 75% empty and unfortunately now I understand why. I really wanted to like the food based on the upscale feel we were expecting but it was sub par at best. Both me and daughter could not finish our meal because the flavor of each dish was just off. The service was attentive. Very expensive meal for a substandard offering.

Not really enjoying the dinner. Soggy classic ceaser salad with hard stale tasteless breadcrumbs, next was over-boiled pasta with pesto sauce and this hard thin sliced broccolis. It was over a spoonful of ricotta cheese and served with crunchy hazelnuts. It was so dry and hard to swallow. Ugh! Refrozen icecream for dessert. Awful!!

We were served a chicken burger that was completely raw in the middle. Nothing else really needs to be said - the manager was nice about it, and the bill for the meal was on the house, but that's a mistake that should never be allowed to leave the kitchen. As for the rest of our experience, the brussel sprouts we got as an appetizer were good, but we did have to wait 30+ minutes after ordering to get it, despite the restaurant only being about 25% filled. We also had to ask someone to come refill our water when we got our main dish (45 minutes after we ordered) because they hadn't refilled the small cups that whole time. Service overall was just really slow, even though staff were just standing around the host stand. If it were just for these other things, I probably would have given a 3 or 4 - but nothing compares to being served raw chicken.

I hosted a dinner for ~30 individuals individuals for a company dinner and I was very pleased! I worked with the team ahead of time (Kirk is amazing) to plan the menu and everything went off perfectly. Menu highlights are definitely the Braised short rib, Sticky toffee pudding, and the rolls. Definitely book them for your next corporate event!

Came here on a Saturday evening 30 minutes early to the reservations and they got us in no problem. Our server Jay was great and even was able to give us tips on what sight seeing to do. For entrees I got the Garganelli pasta which was delicious but beware if you're sensitive to spicy foods it does have some spice. My mom got the Salmon a la Plancha and enjoyed it. We shared a side of Mac and cheese and practically had to fight over it cause it was so good!! Overall I enjoyed my dinner. The service was great as well as the food. My only tip is that if you're assuming you have a view hence the Empire State location, you do not since the restaurant is the ground level of the Empire State Building.

Ended up at this place because we bought tickets to the Empire state building and they had dinner with a view.... Must of said dinner AND a view because dinner definitely had no view. Which was not the restaurants fault btw, bought the tickets from empires website. We would have never eaten here otherwise. However since we had already paid we made the best of it. Jay was our server and he was very attentive. Food and service was really over the top. Nothing disappointed and the servings were great. Desserts were great too! Definitely recommend and would come back.

I attended a company event at the restaurant. The food was absolutely amazing. I have the crab cake with more lumps of crab than filler. The NY strip was nice cooked . Had the steak and fries. The panna cotta was to die for . It was a very good experience and the wait staff we super nice and attentive . I will most certainly be back.

Awesome and quiet place food was Delicious. Service was quick and server was friendly.. hidden gem .. great place for a light lunch or tasty dinner.. had the filled shrimp and hamburger entrée ..

My boyfriend and I recently came to this establishment on October 20, 2018! We had made reservations on Open Table after reviewing the menu online. When we arrived, we were instantly greeted by a young gentlemen (who later happened to be our waiter). Jay was phenomenal! He greeted us with a warm smile and treated us as if we were his regular customers! His personality and willingness to make our celebration dinner special was outstanding. Any questions we had, he answered! If we asked him for his suggestions, he gave them and boy was he right! Not only was Jay wonderful, but the food was spectacular was well! As an appetizer we ordered the Cheese & Charcuterie and Fried Calamari. For dinner, my boyfriend ordered the Sausage Cavatelli and I ordered the NY Strip Steak. Everything was flavorful and fresh! Although the food was pricey, it was definitely worth it!! As a dessert, Jay brought out their Homemade Ice Cream with a little sign saying "Happy Birthday!" How awesome is that?! See attached photos.... The restaurant is small and quaint, but beautiful! I would 100% recommend this establishment and Jay! You won't be disappointed!!

The steak is fantastic. Super juicy and tasty. The customer service was great and the drinks were amazing.

Went down stairs for lunch today, very convenient not having to leave the building for a good meal. Looked up the menu before arriving and saw the steak frittes with chimichuri sauce looked good and it did not disappoint. Service was not the best, asked for a soda when my meal arrived and didn't get it until I had 2 bites left - and I'm not a fast eater. Would return again for sure but pricey and mediocre service do not go hand in hand

Staff was very nice, ambiance was great, but the food was excellent. They did something amazing with the baby salad. Worth the visit!.

This is one of my favorite places to dine in the city. I joined them for drinks and bar bites last night and I'm loving the new fall menu from their new Chef! We were able to enjoy fried squash rings with a tomato chutney, roasted brussel sprouts and by far my favorite, purple cauliflower with a bean paste and fresh pesto.

Dining at State Grill and Bar was truly an amazing experience and located at the iconic Empire State Building! During our dinner, we were served with attentiveness and our server provided great recommendations. For appetizers, you can't go wrong with a classic, fried calamari with banana peppers that added a uniqueness to the dish. We ordered the jumbo crab cakes with aioli and the beef short ribs for the main course. Both dishes were so delicious, the beef short ribs tender and perfect. We couldn't get enough of both dishes and really glad they were recommended by our server. And onto dessert...the macadamia nut tart is a must try! They make all desserts from scratch daily which is great. We dined here pre-COVID and I hope that someday I can go back and experience the rest of the great food and service. Make sure to keep this restaurant in mind if you are ever around the area and of course if you are visiting the Empire State Building.

Had reservations for lunch here today for a business lunch. We arrived about 15 min ahead of 2 others in our party and we were still seated and served drinks. That was my first plus here. Most places do not seat you without your whole party being present. I ordered the quinoa salad with shrimp. It had chickpeas and feta mixed in it. Really delicious. I would definitely order it again. We shared the cookie platter for dessert. I only tried the macaroon off of it but that was amazing. State Grill and Bar is pricey so this isn't an everyday dining place but I would come here again. I left feeling very full.

Food and service was amazing. I got the SG Prix Fixe. I will definitely come back to eat here next time I come to NYC. Staff are so wonderful!!!

Patina Group has great restaurants. Food is always delicious and great service. The Short Ribs is delicious. Definitely try it. I've read people complaining of the small portion and it isn't. Ita just right. You so not need a knife for this. Ita Super tender. The mash potatoes that accompanies the dish it Super velvety and smooth. The Risotto special was awesome and loaded with shrimp. I think they should put this on the regular menu. Only dish I thought was so so was the Kale Salad. Salad was fresh but it was overwhelmed by the blue cheese and it was all I could taste.

Went there during an event at the Empire State Building. The host was amazing and nice. Service sucked. Waited half an hour for a glass of wine on a slow Wednesday evening. The Chardonnay sucked. Could not drink it! Waste of time and money. Dinner might be better. Can't be worse.

Pro: Decent place for company lunch/dinners or events (downstairs is a private room for such). Pretty good service. I tried their salmon, which was fairly average. There wasn't anything I ate that stood out, nor enticing enough for me to come back. Con: Average food.

I have been going to this restaurant as long as it's been open and my review is long overdue. I usually sit at the bar and get wonderfuland fabulous service from Jake, the bartender. The food is fabulous. I have taken a few people there and they all love it. The fried calamari is some of the best I've ever had. The steak frites and Brussel sprouts are fabulous... just to name a few. This past Tuesday, after searching for a place that had a children's menu and can accommodate a child who is lactose intolerant, I decided to bring my friend and her little daughter here. John, the manager as well as Nicole stepped up and my friend and her young daughter and I had a wonderful dinner with really delicious food and great service. Thank you all again for another wonderful experience! This is a indeed a neighborhood gem!

Very nice staff. The food is AMAZING!!!!!. I always take pictures of my food but too much was going on. The crowds outside were massive due to the time of year. We were lucky to get in.

I was given tickets to this place and kept putting off going. But finally decided to give it a try before the expiration date on the tickets. My co-worker and I got there about 45 minutes before our reservation after work on Tuesday evening. They seated us right away and had no issue with us arriving before schedule. The prefixe menu was slightly different from the regular menu, but that's to be expected. I had read previous reviews and some said the place was great while others said the place was horrible. I read that someone else had gotten the prefixe and ordered the steak so I was really looking forward to a steak. However, that was not a choice on the menu. So I settled for the one of the other two beef choices which was short ribs. I also ordered the seafood chowder. My friend ordered chicken milanese and her soup choice was a garden vegetable soup. For dessert she chose the 7 layer blackout and I chose the ice cream trio. We were offered the choice of still,sparkling or tap water. We chose still. Food- Short ribs- although boneless & tender, very small, one piece with a lot of fat served over a small portion of mashed potato, two carrots and chipolini onions that were undercooked. The whole dish was very bland and lacked salt. Did the chef forget that salt brings out the flavor of dishes? Seafood chowder- it had pieces of salmon, cubed potaoes, pieces of shrimp and bacon in a creamy broth. Do they call that seafood? And who puts salmon in soup? I guess since two of their dishes on the menu are salmon they use it more ways. The shrimp were a tad under for my taste. Chicken milanese- Although it was a huge portion it had no flavor at all. Again lacking salt and this type of dish if there was salt available on the table wouldn't do it any justice after being fried. Salad was nice. But to me not a complete meal. Bread- no bread basket placed on table. Instead they come around and offer you one piece from a choice of salted baguette, cranberry roll, or sourdough. All of which are hard slightly warmed and hard to cut into. Seven layer cake- just ok nothing spectacular same goes for the ice cream. The three flavors were chocolate, vanilla and malted. I didn't care for the malted. With this meal you had a choice of coffee, tea or soda. Since we chose water my friend had coffee we weren't expecting a check for the water. I've never been charged for still water. It was $6.53 Service was ok, the server did come check on us once. I did notice he was a bit more friendlier to a group who was ordering from the regular menu. We looked at the regular menu and noticed there were a few things on there that seemed good. I wouldn't go back. Their food is bland and there are many other places to eat in the city. I won't tell the person who gifted me the tickets. He paid $55 per person and I kind of feel bad that it wasn't worth it

This was a great find especially if you purchased pre fixed from the Empire State Building website. Great service, the shrimp appetizer and calamari appetizer were the best I've ever had. The banana peppers were an interesting addition to the flavor of the dish. The manager actually waited on us and was extremely professional. Definitely would come back again.

What a great night! Steak was delish, Groupon was easy, had a great time with my bf, & ambience was nice too. Cheesecake, wine, & JJ (Juan Jose, our waiter) were the best part of the night. He spoke Spanish softly to another table, & was very pleasant at our table. We ordered another cheesecake to go cz it was Fabulous! Thank you JJ!

I am so fond of this restaurant for so many reasons. The staff is extremely attentive and pleasant. The food is fresh and delicious. The decor is inviting and the seating is comfortable. Add these qualities together and what you have is a standing ovation. From the moment you walk in, you are Thanked for coming ! You are then introduced to your server(s)...I would say we had about 3 servers who communicate with one another as if they were telepathic! "How did he know that I asked for another coffee?" These are happy people who are happy to make me happy ! The food is above average (not sure what anyone else is talking about); the burrata (I know burrata well) is made perfectly..not salty at all, not too soft or too hard, but still "spreadable", and sits atop a very lightly vinagrette salad. Crabcake is small but PUNCHED with flavor and well worth it. Go For: 1) The steak frites (great herb green sauce..like chimichurri but NOT) and very good homemade fries; 2) The crab cake (light with a root picked salad that tastes divine), 3) STATE Burger (I watched my friend devour this as he said WOW with each bite), 4) The chicken milanese (It is actually grilled and not breaded and the salad has very lightly pickled and thinly sliced pieces of fennel in it..among other delicious earthy components that compliment the salad as a whole) 5) Excellent Cheese plate 6) Coconut cake (and I don't even like coconut but this was insane) and the strawberry cream puff (very very light..like air) went perfectly with their aromatic coffee that tastes like it smells. Thank you Staff and the Kitchen Crew for your excellence.

I come here regularly for business lunches. Always a good experience, both the staff and the food never dissapoint. Let's start with the staff, they are well trained and very helpful. The food is awesome as well with a always a daily lunch special. If you are visiting The Empire State Building then this is a wonderful place to dine.

A+ happy hour. Will you ever feel more like a New Yorker than doing HH at the base of the Empire State Building? Anyway, they run $10 cocktail deals from 4:30 to 7 Monday to Friday, The 33rd Street Manhattan is wonderful. It has some apple/pear flavors with apple cores as garnish. Pretty damn good. They also give you these freshly made deep fried thin chips. They're delicious. Bathrooms are downstairs, and they're pretty fancy. All in all, this might be one of the best happy hours in NYC if you can stomach the area.

A few months ago, I had read an article about Chef Morgan, so I thought We'd stop and give State a try. Wow, the menu was wonderful,and my mother and I both vegan, but we were blown away by Chef Morgans obvious talent. Can't wait to come back.

Came here as a Valentine date. This was a package that was added from the Observatory tour. This restaurant is very up scale and amazing. The 3 course meal was everything. I had the Crab Cakes as a starter and it was one of the best crab cakes I have ever tasted. The coriander aïoli has a nice soft taste I could eat all night. For entrée, I choose the Scottish Salmon. Not everyone can make a tasty Salmon. The skin was nice a crunchy just the way I like it. The meat part of the salmon was mice and juicy and soft. The sweet potato purée gave the salmon a nice zest. For dessert, it was hard to choose. I picked the Key Lime Pie. I loved the added Lime chip that was added on top of the pie. It gave the pie a different taste with the ice cream and topping that was on Overall, I would visit this restaurant again. I'm not keen on visiting the same restaurant twice, but State Bar & Grill won my heart.

A great ending to an amazing day. The food and service were 5+stars. I have to give a special shout out to our waiter Slav and the manager Stephan for going above and and beyond to make sure myself and my new fiancé had a memorable dinner. We will be back, and definitely would recommend.

I was really surprised to find out this place closes at 10pm, especially considering that the Empire State Building is open till 2am. That being said, our reservation was for 9:45pm and at NO point did we ever feel rushed to order, or to consume our food. The fact that they close at 10 did not stop them from providing stellar service. Bread was warm and fresh. Started with the grilled shrimp and the amount of flavor in that one bite was insane! Steak Frites were delicious and my husband's New York Strip was also excellent. We were celebrating our anniversary and before they brought our bill, they gave us a platter of freshly baked cookies, brownies and biscotti to wish us a happy anniversary. This small gesture was incredibly nice and to be honest, kinda rare. Flavors and service both on point! Would definitely recommend this spot.

Worst customer service - from management nonetheless. Being a frequent patron at state grill I expected more from management when I was served a sub par dish. I ordered the shrimp cocktail and was given three pieces of shrimp that looked like they were thawed from a frozen bag and placed on a plate of ice. Needless to say I gave them the benefit of the doubt and assumed it was a one off issue. It took me a while to flag down a waiter and once I did it turned out to be the manager. Not only did he chalk up the terrible, overpriced dish to be a result of "midtown" he also was extremely condescending and rude when I tried to kindly return it. His response to my complaint was "have you ever been to midtown"? Won't be returning.

Food didn't taste very good overall: Burrata and tomatoes - very small dish; not great for sharing Chicken and mushroom spring rolls - kind of bland and didn't have enough seasoning Lobster Mac and cheese - didn't taste much lobster in here; mac and cheese was ok Cavatelli - decent; best dish of all the ones I tried Lobster noodle salad - not great; wouldn't recommend getting this; noodles tasted soggy and didn't have very good seasoning

The house-smoked trout salad with orange, fennel, celery, dijon aioli and citronette dressing might be one of the best salads I've had. Followed that incredible appetizer with another: Lobster Mac & Cheese Bites served with housemade green chili sauce. This bar and grill is street level in the Empire State Building. (You definitely should visit the Observation Deck at night.) As a single diner, I sat at the bar and enjoyed attentive service and watching the magic happen in the kitchen.

I always wanted to Dine at this Place on my check list finally Dine in Jan 31 for My Birthday it was everything I thought it would be the food was excellent I had filet mignon and lobster tail with a French martini the waiter was fabulous his name is Jay really had the Best time ever Me and My Son have these Memories to Share.

The quintessential New York breakfast place. Such a nice way to start our day. Just a lovely experience. The food and service were outstanding. I am sure lunch and dinner would be just as wonderful.

STATE Grill and Bar is a good place to dine. I made a reservation but I was surprised it was almost empty on Tuesday 09/06/2016 The waitress and waiter were nice. The food was ok. I ordered Skuna Bay Salmon* Asparagus, mushrooms, fennel. I felt it was not big enough for me. I love the wine . I hear it is a special wine only available from them. Overall I enjoyed. I noticed I was asked 2 times I wanted a desert by the waiter and waitress. that was weird;) I will go again.

Expected something of better quality. The staff quality is poor our waiter did not break a smile with us at all which made my experience even worse. I am a New Yorker and its sad that a restaurant in one of the most iconic buildings can operate in that manner. We had steak frites which the steak was good and cooked to our liking fries were not good over fried. Overall, if the service was better would visit again but otherwise not a fan.

Dinner 2nd Empire State Building, $60 per person if purchased from the observatory cashier (which we did). The overall rating (food/service/price) was 7.5/10 for me for a supposedly 5star restaurant. My recommendation would be to buy the ticket up to the observatory and eat elsewhere unless you want to fine dine. The marketing on the restaurant ad is confusing, "dinner and a view", there's no view on the 2nd floor lol we thought it was going to have some kind of scenic views as you dine, but I was wrong. The food was good, service took awhile to notice us when we walked in, no hot water refill until we asked.
