The 17 Best Restaurants in Wichita, Kansas

"Wichita is fickle about its barbecue, but for the past three years, Station 8 has been the favorite place to fill up on St. Louis-style ribs, brisket, pulled pork, and hotlinks. The restaurant is set up inside a converted fire house near downtown, and the owner has decorated the space with antique phone booths, vintage fire engine toys, and a 1940s Wurlitzer jukebox. It’s a lunch-only place that serves heaping plates buffet style, and it’s always packed. Be sure to grab a classic bottle of soda from the display case." - Denise Neil

Station 8 BBQ in Wichita, Kansas is SPECTACULAR!!! They’re only open Wed-Sat, from 11:00am until they sell out, usually around 2:00pm. We arrived at 11:20, and there was already a line of people down the sidewalk waiting to get in; a really good sign that today’s lunch was going to be AWESOME! The line moved pretty fast, and we only had to wait 30 minutes. Pam got the 2-meat plate with Kansas City style ribs and Pork Belly Burnt Ends. Her side was Cornbread Pudding, which we had never had before but was really good. Dave got the “Thursday Special”, 1/2 pound house-made pastrami on rye, with a side of Mac & Cheese. We have had pastrami in rye at the famous Katz's Delicatessen in NYC, but Station 8’s pastrami on rye beat Katz’s for flavor, tenderness and value, HANDS DOWN! That sandwich alone is a reason to visit Wichita! The portion size, food quality, atmosphere, and value, easily place Station 8 on the shortlist of places for the “Best BBQ in America”.

Just traveling through town and came across this place. Excellent food and atmosphere. They were extremely kind and checking on us. The live music was a bonus. Be sure and get the burnt ends. They have a “secret” blueberry barbecue sauce. Ask for it. 👊💗

Wow wow wow, talk about delicious. This place is a go to spot while visiting Wichita. When you first get there the line is pretty long for lunch. You can’t go in and reserve a table but as soon as you get close to the front you can get a spot with your party. Either way people basically eat and go, so there’s a spot when you’re done ordering. We ordered the Yeti with a side of burnt ends. For 5 adults, 2 kids and a toddler this was plenty of food for us. It was about $130 with a tip. That’s absolutely a great price being that we had so many leftovers. Everything was great. The chicken was tender enough for my toddler to eat. The burnt ends were perfect wrapped in a sourdough slice of bread. The ribs just fell off the bone. The brisket was tender. I’m not a big fan of baloney but it was already. The sausage was really good. Had a kick of spice to it. Overall def come visit. The service is great. They gave the kids hot wheels to play with while we waited on the food. The staff were so friendly and kind. Absolutely enjoyed our meal here.

Google
Best BBQ I've ever had! Visited during my 3rd BBQ road trip. The food here is FANTASTIC! The service is amazing, everyone is so friendly! We ordered brisket, pulled pork, ribs, burnt ends, spicy sausage, corn bread casserole. I'll need to come back to Wichita to end here again. Amazing!!!

Google
I know why the city loves this place. It has the cool factor. The meat was fairly mid - edible by all means, but nothing that would make me think about it later. Sides were competent, although not special. That being said the value is very fair and affordable. The wait is not justified. But the staff is overly friendly and sociable. I think there is better BBQ in town, but I don't think there is a better BBQ place.

Logan B.

Google
Honestly, it's one of the best, if not the best, BBQ place in town. The restaurant has a cafeteria / order along a conveyor belt sort of ordering style. It's really convenient for helping get through the long lines. The food is definitely worth the wait, and I absolutely recommend coming to try this place at least once, if not regularly.

From the moment we stepped into Station 8, we were greeted with genuine smiles and the mouthwatering scent of slow-smoked perfection. The atmosphere strikes the perfect balance—laid-back and welcoming, yet full of character. Whether you're out with family, catching up with friends, or just craving seriously good barbecue, this place hits the mark. Now, the food? Pure magic. The brisket was unbelievably tender, practically melting in our mouths with every bite, and kissed with just the right hint of smoky richness. The ribs were fall-off-the-bone flawless—wow. Juicy, flavorful, and paired with house-made sauces that enhance the meat rather than drown it. The sides are more than just afterthoughts—they’re stars in their own right. The creamy mac and cheese was insanely good, the kind that makes you close your eyes with that first bite. You can taste the heart and soul that goes into every dish. Service was top-tier—fast, attentive, and authentically kind. It’s clear that the team at Station 8 takes pride in everything they do, and it shows in every detail, from the food to the atmosphere. If you're anywhere near Station 8, make the trip. This isn’t just a meal—it’s an experience you’ll be dreaming about long after your plate is clean. A solid five stars all the way!!!!!!

Google
Best BBQ in ICT, hands down! There is a reason there is a line prior to them opening everyday but it is well worth the time. I thought it was a bit pricey till I got all that food on my plate, it was easily 2 large meals. I can't wait to get a chance to go back and try out more types of food at this place.

Yelp
Best brisket I have ever had. Best burnt ends I've ever had. Very good mac & cheese. This former Wichita resident and current KC resident is damned impressed!! Wow!! My ICT friends were right. Station 8 is the best. God bless y'all.

Yelp
Wow! What a place! I had this on my list for Wichita in my yelp collection already. I decided today was the day to go. At the car rental counter, I was recommended as one of the best places to eat in town. It was fate since I was kind of already decided to go there. Well, I pull up, there's cars everywhere in line out the door down the street! For me, this is a sign of wonderful experience. I chatted with a nice couple in front of me who had driven an hour to come here. They recommended the ribs. This is an old fire house, decorated lots of antique stuff. The weight ended up being well worth it! I got ribs and Burnt ends. And for sides got the jalapeño corn, pudding, and mac & cheese. I grabbed a strawberry white chocolate cookie from a local bakery. They were selling and a cheap wine zero sugar. The ribs were some of if not the very best I've ever had in my life! Burns were good too. The mac & cheese was very cheesy and creamy and the corn pudding very good. They had a large selection of bread, but I elected to not get any. The staff there was super nice and very helpful. Everyone seemed very happy to be there. This is one of the better barbecue places I've been to in the country! Yes, you'll wait in line, but it is well worth it.

Yelp
Yes, found this on Yelp as we were driving through Wichita. During week at lunch so it was lined up. It was alittle different feel going down line but it moved fast. You tell one person your meat then another your sides and drink at end. Drinks in a cooler you get yourself. I perfer ice , so we just got a bottle of water. Food was good. I had a ham sandwich with really good Jalapeno cornbread Pudding. Service is good with a person walking around giving out to go containers as needed. They are cleaning tables as soon as someone leaves. Not a Huge sitting area but the feel is good. Cute place with the fireman vibe. Definitely will stop again if in area while they are open during lunch.

Yelp
So good! Like head there now while you can. They have very limited hours though. The food was stellar. Nothing we had was bad, everything was delicious bbq low and slow goodness. The best were the burnt ends. The service was on point and friendly. Our server had some great tips for our next visit and helped us with to go containers because our eyes were bigger than our stomachs. The ambiance gives a firehouse meets diner vibe that I liked. Very old fashioned but also efficient with the line style ordering and paying.

Richard G.

Yelp
Awesome food and environment We took our group of 50 plus and had an after hours meal. Thanks for the great service!

Neal M.

Yelp
IMO the best BBQ in Wichita. I brisket and pulled pork Both excellent and the servings were very generous in comparison to another local BBQ place that closes at 2000. The sides were different also bbq beans and jalapeño cornbread. Both excellent They also had green beans garlic carrots cornbread pudding macaroni and cheese and potato salad. If you like BBQ I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Station 8 You will probably have to stand in line for a while but it is worth it.

Caleb C.

Yelp
FANTASTIC FOOD EVERY TIME. Service getting through the line went pretty smooth for being a busy Saturday, went at lunch time and had a 30 minute wait line. But completely worth waiting for!
google avatar

Yelp
This place is amazing! Easily the best barbecue in Wichita. The food is excellent, you can tell the workers put a lot of tender, love, and care into their food. Line understandably gets a little long but isn't too slow, I'd guesstimate around 20-30 minutes to get through the line. Service is excellent and it's easy to grab some seating. The inside is really cool since it used to be a fire-station. Lots of decorations and a good ambiance. They encourage you to sit, eat your food, and then get going (not in a bad way!). I'm definitely looking forward to coming again!

Yelp
Fist of all, what a cute spot! This restaurant is in an old fire station and has so many cute old school decorations and knickknacks. The food is also super good! I got the jalapeño cheddar link, brisket, and Mac and cheese. I really enjoyed the vinegar bbq sauce with the brisket! Everything was so good and by the time we left there was a good line. Definitely worth it!

Yelp
Here you see the ribs, brisket, mac and cheese, and pickled veggies on the side. This is hands down the best bbq i've ever had. The seasoning on the meat is smoky, savory, slightly sweet. The char on the meat is excellent, and the meat inside is juicy like no other. The amount of meat you get for the price is also phenomenal. The mac and cheese isn't my favorite but nonetheless great. Wish the sauce could be less thick. The spot has various options for side dishes and sauces. My favorite is the spicy bbq. Cheers!
google avatar

Jen S.

Yelp
It's costly, by my measure and you get what you pay for. I usually get a couple of meals from one order. Everything has been outstanding. Superior to your average BBQ joint. All sides I've ever had have been stand-out good.
google avatar

D M.

Yelp
Born and raised on KC bbq and also a KCBS barbecue judge and an admitted BBQ snob. Takes a lot to impress me and his was VERY good BBQ. Pork was the average(usually is to me) but everything else was excellent. Recommend the mac and cheese and the cornbread jalapeno whatever it was. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Baby yeti is $35 not $24 bbq was ok I was expecting to be blown away by the flavor. The employees great attitudes raised there rating. Just another hyped restaurant by Wichitans

Yelp
The wife and I had some business to attend to in downtown Wichita and I have always heard about this place so we decided to try it. Glad I did when we first got into the place roughly 1245 Ish there was a fairly long line but it was moving very well. The seating area was 90% filled, which had me slightly concerned, but we did find a table to eat at the place is very retro Coleman lanterns and other old memorabilia around everywhere. The food service line is reminded me of a subway, but you had four or five people that had a specific job to perform to get you through the line which made that nice The wife and I both had the brisket which was extremely moist tasted very well. Glad we both made that choice I had to baked beans for seasoned nice had just a little bit of spice too, but nothing offensive. The wife had the potato salad and it was a good potato salad. I almost think it was homemade but I could be wrong. Lunch was approximately 16 $17 apiece with a bottled or canned beverage one tip if you do wanna go to this place they post on Facebook and they are famous for selling out so if you do go late afternoon Ish, they close at two sometimes they'll run a discount or unfortunately, they will be sold out for the day. Will definitely be back there with the trip just for the barbecue.

Yelp
Interesting place. We first tried to get in on Saturday while passing through town but the line was long and we had to get to another state. We stopped in on our way back to Texas and found no line so walked right in. The brisket has a delicious peppery crust and the flavor was quite good. I really liked the size of the serving. It was enough for two people to share. The hot link was neither hot nor substantial. In fact, it was the size of a dog snack. That was disappointing. The beans were baked beans and included kidney beans, which neither added nor detracted from their flavor but some folks might not like that detail. They were tasty, just slightly undercooked on this day. The potato salad was creamy and flavorful, but being from Texas, I tend to want more mustard than mayo in my potato salad. Sauces. There were three options but we tried their peach sauce and a vinegar based one. Neither appealed. The peach sauce was just short of runny jelly and the vinegar did nothing for the meat and frankly, the meat didn't need sauce. The staff was fabulous, answering questions, making recommendations and were right there to offer to go containers and bussing tables. Really great crew!!

Yelp
Kansas City BBQ? Nothing compares to station 8. Oh my oh so good!! Go you will not be disappointed. Unless you go on a Monday

Yelp
Definitely top 3 BBQ spots in Wichita; could be #1 depending on what you like... I'm a huge burnt ends guy, so that's my go to. But upon more visits, Station 8 makes a delicious brisket and ribs AND their sides are awesome. The Mac & Cheese is nice and creamy, but what isn't pictured is the AMAZING Corn Bread Pudding... that was wildly good! Make sure you come early because there's usually a line out the door; but their service makes it go by quickly. @phidingthefam

Anita A.

Yelp
Not only was the bbq out of this world delicious, the employees were so friendly and accommodating. Definitely will be going again! Can't suggest enough to get there early, would hate to have them run out before I could fill my order. I wish I could say more about the ambience. It was a neat place, an old fire station, but I was too busy eating my food to really look around too much lol
google avatar

Catie L.

Yelp
Best BBQ in Wichita! They're located in an old Fire station just north of Douglas in downtown. If you arrive when they open there will be a line out the door but you don't want to risk them running out of one of your favorites! The line moves pretty fast though and the lively people inside are absolutely making sure EVERYONE has the best experience possible! The first two times we went we got the Yeti, which is a sampler platter of their meats, including brisket, ribs, turkey, ham and bologna. It's a great way to try a little of everything and make everyone happy if you have a party of 4-5. It does not include the burnt ends, WHICH ARE DELICIOUS AND WORTH ADDING TO YOUR ORDER! The sides are a step above the normal phoned in BBQ restaurant sides. The mac and cheese is good, as are the green beans, but the star of the show is the jalapeño corn pudding. Every time we wish we'd ordered a second helping of the corn pudding, and we wrote ourselves a note to remember for next time. Normal selection of canned sodas and bottle water, with a couple of fun soda choices mixed in. If it's nice, head out to the patio in the side of the building! They usually have some live music in the main area on Saturdays, and the patio is just a little quieter and less crowded.

Loren B.

Yelp
Best bbq in Wichita by a long shot. From the meat to the sides Station 8 never disappoints.
google avatar

Yana A.

Yelp
The best barbecue I've ever had in my life. Super interesting interior with a whole bunch of decorations throughout the entire building. The line was formed before they opened at 11am, and stayed consistent for the next couple hours we were there. The food was amazing!! Definitely worth the price for all they offered. The burnt ends were the best item we got, so if they have it available definitely make sure to grab some and make sure to eat inside. The staff was so friendly with the manager checking up on everyone and engaging in small talk. Would recommend anyone in Kansas to come visit this location.

Jena T.

Yelp
Get the YETI!! You will not be disappointed. Travel 45 min one way to eat here as much as possible. Its so good!! The line will look long but they move everyone through quickly. Very well run resturant and amazing food.

Stephen M.

Yelp
This is the most consistent bbq that I've ever had. I've never had a single thing that I don't like... from brisket to balogna all of the meats are fantastic! Located in an old fireatation makes for the coolest location for a bbq joint. I love the ambiance and the excitement and the energy!

Sally A.

Yelp
Yum yum yum , nice employees , Get there early. Line moves fast. Lots to look at while in line.

Yelp
Brisket and Ribs are best I have had in Wichita. Come early, the line fills up fast! The staff is excellent!

Courtney V.

Yelp
Sooo good! Got the brisket potato bowl. It was just the right size to stuff myself and not feel overstuffed.
google avatar

Aaron W.

Yelp
Amazing! Best BBQ I've ever had! The brisket is the most tender and flavorful, the hot links are just the right amount of spice. The portions are generous. Always an amazing meal.

Lia R.

Yelp
OMG!! Easily the VERY BEST BBQ EVER!!! Shared the Yeti with friends Kissed the owner it was so good!! Loved the ambiance too.
google avatar

Nick G.

Yelp
Station 8 BBQ exceeded all expectations! The barbecue was unparalleled, making it a destination-worthy experience akin to a Travel Channel feature. What truly sets this place apart is its fantastic ambiance--nestled in an old fire station. The nostalgic setting adds a unique charm to the dining experience, making it not just a meal but a memorable experience. Friendly staff, delectable barbecue, and a cool, historic atmosphere make Station 8 BBQ a definite 5-star standout!
google avatar

Ryan C.

Yelp
Great place and great BBQ. nice addition to the area. Close to breweries. Will be coming back.

Shanda B.

Yelp
I can not say enough about Station 8. The food was delicious - got the special $5 pulled pork sandwich and $4 side of Mac n cheese. I commented to the gentlemen working how excited I was to try their food and they threw a little brisket and burnt ends on my tray to try. Everyone there was SO nice and helpful. Can not wait to return and patronize these great people.
google avatar

Shaun J.

Yelp
The food is great I love it wish they were open longer the brisket and the Mac n cheese
google avatar

Andrea S.

Yelp
Burnt ends alone with the trip. Great local BBQ in an old fire station, such a cool building!
google avatar

Dave M.

Yelp
Best BBQ in Wichita. Ribs & Burnt Ends are Delicious. Brisket is juicy & tender. Staff is Great. The BBQ Baked Beans are incredible. My new favorite Wichita lunch spot! Staff is very efficient-

Rich Y.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious!! I ordered the 2 item plate, brisket and burnt ends with green beans and cornbread pudding. The condiments rule!! Can't wait to go back.
google avatar

Deb P.

Yelp
Fabulous food, diverse BBQ Menu, with friendly, efficient staff and old firehouse/automobile/1920-1950 Americana decor. Only open 11-2, limited parking, so plan for that. Outdoor seating available. No alcohol, but a variety of off the wall sodas to tickle your tastebuds.

Susan V.

Yelp
Awesome food, service and atmosphere! They recently catered an event for me x 50 people. Everyone loved it and Station 8 had everything ready to go! I highly recommend this business!

Luis M.

Yelp
The food is amazing. Best BBQ in Wichita. Their sides are delicious, their half chicken is literally half a chicken haha. One thing I would change is how rude the Lady who cleans the table is. My first time there I sat at a table without my food. My cousin was buying my food. She came up and said there is no saving tables if you don't have food please get up now and wait till you get your food. The 2nd time I went there we were paying so one of party member went to to grab a both and she sat at the table and told them there is no saving tables. He had to explain to her we were paying and she needed to stop being so rude. Great place, all other workers amazing except for that lady. She needs to learn a little more customer service skills and if taking a table while your party members are paying is such a no no then why not put up a sign saying NO SAVING TABLES. I swear she made us thing we were like breaking a law.
google avatar

Darin L.

Yelp
This is the best BBQ in Wichita. Seriously try their peach bbq sauce. They have amazing green beans, amazing brisket, amazing everything. Go check them out!
google avatar

Long B.

Yelp
Great atmosphere. Great food. Great people. The vibe here is pretty awesome. It's an old firehouse with lots of cool antique fire house items. I was greeted by the door guy that opened the door for me. Then had a guy explain to me all the items on the menu. Very welcoming crew. Now to the food. I ordered the two meat combo and side. The amount of meat you get is great value. I got the pulled pork and brisket with potato salad. Pulled pork is excellent and brisket was solid. Some briskets out there are dry but this was juicy. The spicy Chipotle bbq sauce was good. Good amount of heat but not too hot that you can't taste anything. Potato salad is good. Could use some paprika. I had everything to go and it had everything you needed to eat on the go. I didn't sit down but there was plenty of seating available. Good for groups of single seating. I will definitely return again.

Matt B.

Yelp
When you get your food you will understand the long line! Food was excellent! Smoked to perfection! Nestled in an old firehouse it was very cozy atmosphere! The employees were all super friendly! Only suggestion I would make would be add some homemade sweet tea to the menu to compliment all the good food!
google avatar

Bill T.

Yelp
Went there Saturday for lunch to see what everybody had been talking about. We almost didn't go since we had heard that if you didn't get there right when they opened, you'd be waiting in a line out the door which was not the case on this Saturday. Wife ordered the two meat combo with ribs and pulled pork which she said was very good. I ordered the 1/2 pound brisket dinner with one side. It was all fatty point, fattiest I'd ever seen! For the price I paid I would have hoped to get all lean flat. May give them another chance but there are better places for a lot less money not far away.

Regina J.

Yelp
My husband had the Brisket and pork and I had the burnt ends and brisket. If you like Burnt Ends, I thought they were really good. They also had a choice of sauces. I enjoyed the "peach sweet" sauce.

Michelle S.

Yelp
Get there early I think people are outside about an hour before they open - this place is worth every penny!
google avatar

Jessica S.

Yelp
Not even a big BBQ fan, but now I definitely am! You can't go wrong with any of the smoked meats. Owner is super friendly and gave us free beef tips just for us to try. They were phenomenal! The smoked Mac and cheese melts in your mouth. Best BBQ I've ever had!! Wichita's #1 BBQ place hands down

Timothy K.

Yelp
The food is to die for! I was able to get their burnt ends (they run out quick) and they were the best I have ever had. 11/10 would recommend. The staff was very nice and seemed to enjoy what they do. The building is historic and beautiful inside. Happy this restaurant is part of the ICT food scene.

Yelp
Well worth the trip that we took (from Maryland) to sample KS BBQ! It is amazing what these guys have accomplished, since their opening. The staff are extra-friendly and the atmosphere is spectacular. We sampled and enjoyed most of the offerings (including brisket, pulled pork, ribs, burnt-ends, baloney). We especially loved the cornbread pudding and homemade peach-infused BBQ sauce.
