The Best Restaurants in Aspen, Colorado | Eater Denver

"Housed in a Victorian-era charmer, Steakhouse No. 316 serves up drama with its dry-aged beef. Inside, it’s romantic with red booths, dim lighting, and just enough edge to feel like a speakeasy for carnivores. The menu leans classic steakhouse, but with Aspen excess dialed all the way up: raw bar towers, truffle-topped cuts, and add-ons like lobster tail or crab Oscar, plus eight decadent sauces (pro tip: go blue cheese bone marrow butter or go home). Don’t sleep on the sides — especially Lulu’s kale salad (a nod to the previous restaurant tenant) and the béarnaise-drenched potato pavés locals call “crack potatoes” for a reason. Reservations drop 30 days out, and if you want to eat like an aristocrat, set that calendar reminder." - Katie Shapiro

The 15 Best Restaurants In Aspen

"As soon as you step inside this historic Victorian-era home, you’ll realize things in here have definitely changed since the 1800s. It’s a dark and sexy steakhouse, where you should snuggle up in one of the red velvet-covered booths and feast on lobster tails, a tomahawk ribeye for two, and steak toppings like crab oscar and blue cheese bone marrow butter. Leave room on the side for Lulu’s kale salad and cubed potato pavés dripping in béarnaise. It’s a great place for a special occasion meal as long as you book ahead." - katie shapiro

Our visit to Steakhouse 316 was a truly memorable experience. From the moment we walked in, we were welcomed by a warm, classy atmosphere with a cozy, upscale vibe. The staff was friendly and professional, striking the right balance between attentive and respectful of our space. We came for one thing — a great steak — and Steakhouse 316 absolutely delivered. We ordered the tomahawk steak to share, and it was a showstopper. It arrived beautifully presented, carved tableside, and cooked to a perfect medium-rare. The flavor was bold and smoky, with a great crust on the outside and tender, juicy meat throughout. Every bite melted in our mouths. For our side, we chose the sautéed spinach, which was simple but expertly prepared — buttery, garlicky, and fresh. It paired perfectly with the richness of the steak and helped balance the meal. We drank iced tea, which was freshly brewed and refilled often without us having to ask — a small touch, but appreciated. We didn’t go for dessert or drinks, but the main meal alone was more than enough to impress. The portions were generous, and the quality of both the food and service was top-tier. While it’s definitely a splurge, Steakhouse 316 is well worth it for a special night out or any time you’re craving a world-class steak. We left full, happy, and already planning our next visit

Google
Cool restaurant, great service! The staff was very attentive. The food was good but just a little too rich for our taste. The steak and the potatoes had a lot of butter and the potatoes had a heave butter cream sauce on them. It was just too much for us but the atmosphere and the service was great. If you like your steaks cooked with heavy butter then you will love it!

Google
Made a reservation here 6 weeks ahead as we read online it’s one of the best restaurants in Aspen. Having been to some of the top steakhouses around the world I would say this definitely ranks among the best that I’ve been. The cowboy ribeye I ordered was cooked and seasoned perfectly and incredibly tender. The sides were very good as well, we had the twice baked and some veggies. I enjoyed the atmosphere it was very cozy. It’s expensive but if you come here you know what to expect and I thought the value delivered. Shoutout to the water guy who never let a glass reach empty.

Google
First time to the steak house. What a cozy and warm atmosphere. Everyone was very attentive from the minute we entered to check out coats to when we departed. Alejandro proved exceptional and friendly service. We enjoyed the filets, crab legs, whipped potatoes, brussel sprouts and ended with key lime pie. We will return!

Google
It’s really hard to not give 5 🌟to this place. I had one of my best steaks ever so tender and flavorful ( just Slat and Pepper) . Our host was so friendly and helpful and his choice for my steak turned out amazing. Cocktail was what I like ( not too sweet not too strong) . Unfortunately we were so full and couldn’t try dessert 🍮! One of the most go places in Aspen.

Google
Best steak I have ever had New York strip in the world Would go all the way around the world for it.

Google
Excellent steaks, perfectly cooked. The house made steak sauces were fantastic. The waitstaff were very attentive and friendly.

Even if you’re just passing through Aspen, stop here! The food was pricy but definitely worth it! Everything that we ordered was fantastic - we even had to get dessert! Beautiful atmosphere, delicious food, and fantastic service. Shoutout to our two servers: Alex and Ronald were phenomenal!

Yelp
Cute little house that's actually a steakhouse. I like the dark mood lighting and interior decor a lot. We had 2-3 servers, which was great, fast, and friendly. Our server recommended the scallops and shrimp bisque. The shrimp bisque and scallops were amazing! I like that the shrimp bisque tasted homemade and had the perfect amount of thickness to it. I can't explain what was all on the scallops appetizer, but it was pretty amazing as well. We were also served some complimentary delicious bread. We got the sea bass and wagyu flat iron steak. Ironically, everything was delicious and the Wagyu steak was just okay. It was not the most tender, but the flavor was still perfect. I like that it was blackened with peppercorn. I ordered a side of truffle bone marrow butter which was fantastic, but the steak itself was good without the truffle butter also. The sea bass was fantastic. It was very buttery and tender. If I had to choose between the Wagyu flat iron and sea bas, I'd choose the sea bass. I recommend coming here and I would definitely come back next time I'm in Aspen.

Yelp
First off the Maitre d text to try to get us to come an hour early which we did , so we started off badly, then we arrive and he should have sized up we were two large men and put us at a table with more room. He sat us at a table that was crammed in a corner , it was miserably hot and the service was terrible. We eat out fine dining quite often and this experience ranked at the bottom , we went asked if we wanted another cocktail or how the meal was. The servers first the next table were constantly putting their back in our table and people couldn't get by it without hitting me in the back. Really tone deaf. If I were you I'd try other restaurants in Aspen. Thus one is over priced and over spiced.

Yelp
Will start off with saying this is one of the pricier dinners I've ever had, but will confirm that this place is easily top 3 steakhouses I've been to. Service, ambiance, and food were all 5-stars. Left feeling very satisfied, definitely recommend.

Yelp
We wanted an upscale meal in Aspen to celebrate Father's Day and Steakhouse 316 was the perfect choice. You first make a reservation via their website one month before your desired date (and secure reservation with a credit card - beware they have a 48hr cancellation policy) or try to get lucky and just show up but we reserved way in advance. Parking is just street parking. It's pay if you park close and free if you dont mind a short 2 block walk. The restaurant is very upscale but if you eat outside on their nice patio it's more low-key. Inside the restaurant the ambiance is the fine-dining dimly lit high end steakhouse. The service was attentive without being obtrusive and out beverages were always full. Everything we ordered was delicious: APPETIZERS Octopus Cafreal appetizer - outstanding! Perfectly cooked with 2 delicious sauces. Jumbo lump crab cakes - super flavorful! Branding iron onion rings - they came prettily presented in a tower and tasted good. Hard to mess up onion rings though. ENTREES 8oz filet mignon - we each ordered it cooked medium rare and it was cooked PERFECTLY We also got the blue cheese crust on top which I highly recommend since it was delicious!! SIDES Potato's Pave - this was their take on scalloped potatoes but it was our least favorite out of everything we ate tonight. It is little cubes of layered fried potatoes with béarnaise sauce on top. I wouldn't order it again... Street Corn - delicious and flavorful. DESSERT Key lime pie - very flavorful and we liked the fresh cut kiwi on top Overall we had an amazing meal and will return!

Yelp
We had a reservation that we weren't seated for until like 30 mins or so later, due to the people that were seated not wanting to get up. The Lady that checks the coats was friendly welcoming and allowed me to sit under the heat while we waited Kudos to her. The food I ordered well done steak they brought rare. The crab cakes were good. The hostess removed the steak from my order it tasted like I had literally not the cow the flavor was definitely off, the food was warm at best. I wouldn't return or recommend it's a go at your own risk type deal. Just wasn't for me.
google avatar

Gino T.

Yelp
The steaks were not cooked as ordered. They were extremely salty, as well as not very warm. Additionally, service was spotty, especially after main courses were served. I would not return. Place is very noisy.

Yelp
Super cute and small restaurant. Lively bar. Dark lighting. The filet was amazing!! It was cooked perfectly and melted in your mouth. It didn't need any sauce. Loved our server. Did a good job with recs.

Yelp
I came here on a Saturday with my fiancé and the place was packed! From start to finish, this was a great experience. Let me start off by saying; this place hits the mark on every account. The restaurant itself is located in an old house that was converted into a cozy, rustic place. When you walk through the doors, you are immediately greeted by an inviting, rustic and charming decor. The restaurant has deep red hues, old pictures, and exposed brick all throughout the establishment. We started out with one of their specials, the cured ham, from Spain, paired with manchego cheese. The jamón seemed to melt in your mouth; this was a basic cheese & meat dish, done right! For our entrees, we both ordered the wagyu filet. I topped mine with the Maine lobster tail, while he topped his with the blue cheese crust and peppercorn demi glaze.for sides we ordered the sweet corn, whipped garlic potatoes and sautéed garlic spinach. MY GOODNESS, really is all I can say. Every single bite taken was cherished and enjoyed. The steak melted in our mouths and the sides were impeccable. We were well taken care of all night! I highly recommend this place.

Yelp
Delicious food, great service and relaxing ambiance ! Second time here and the team knocked it out of the park. Bartender made my drinks top notch !

Yelp
I went with my family to Steakhouse 316 when on vacation. when I went to the ladies room and sat back down on my chair a nail from the chair had penetrated through my brand new pants and I to my skin. I was bleeding and my pants were totally ruined. I told the manager at the end of the night as I wanted to speak to someone about my pants being ruined and he said they had just recovered some of their chairs and obviously this one had the nail coming through the seat. He could not have been more apologetic. since that time I have called and emailed with the manager who eventually blew me off after saying he would help. Then with the Owner Stacy. one has not replied. so not only did they not reimburse my meal as an I'm sorry, but they have not even reached about about my new pants. they have insurance for these things and have totally ruined them and not once have they tried to make this right. Aspen is a small place and with kind of customer service I would never go back and never recommend it to anyone

Yelp
Excellent food and service. Best ribeye steak ever - had the "cap cut" special, which has all the decadent marbling, my favorite part. Also the scallops were excellent ( and still awesome the next day) as well as delicious bone marrow/steak tartare and crispy brussels sprouts . Service from Caitlin ( I think? Blonde and super friendly ) was impeccable and took care of us for our anniversary dinner. Will eat here again on our next winter trip.

Yelp
I would like to start off and say how horrible the food and service is at this restaurent. They do not properly describe items. Our server was horrible and didn't explain the items we asked about correctly. We asked if there was a souffle for desert and he said yes. He brings us a choclate lava cake. Please save yourself the money and experince and dine somewhere else. Ambience is also horrible and the restaurent is extremly cold (I felt like I was in antartica). I asked multiple times to turn the air coditioning off and they said they would but never turned it off. STAY AWAY from this restaurent!!!

D N.

Yelp
Awful!!!!! Do not dine here.... The staff did not know how to explain any of the dishes. We came with the our family. Children ordered filet (full of pepper) We asked for a soufflé brought us a molten cake. Just a bad experience We come from Beverly Hills and have the top notch restaurants. Do not know how they are open....

Yelp
Fantastic meal, service and ambiance. Will definitely come back on our next vacation to Aspen. Alejandro was an amazing server along with everyone else who assisted our demanding party during the visit.

Yelp
we worried not made an appt. Thank GOD. they accepted walkedin. This place is very dark insde.. when we out from restaurant, we were supeised cause sunset yet.. Food.. we ordered steak with wine.. Not bad but not that a good..

Yelp
This restaurant has awesome food and service! We were able to get seating for 2 in their outdoor patio right under their speakers. It was nice because we heard good background music but not too loud where we had to yell to converse. The waitress and drink staff were so nice and attentive, always making sure to refill our waters. The food was so tasty. I got the prime filet medium rare and it was delicious! But you really have to try the appetizers because they're the difference maker in my opinion. I've had good steaks at other steakhouses but the crab cakes were so fresh and delicious. Not a lot of restaurants offer crab cakes and even when they do, it's not as delicious as these. We also had the shishito peppers and it was so good but be careful...my friend happened to eat a couple of the super spicy ones and it hurt her...not in a super bad way but they were spicy! Prices were as expected for the fabulous meal and service.
google avatar

Kari K.

Yelp
All three were perfect... Food, service, and ambience!!! This restaurant was highly recommended to us to visit when we went to Aspen!!! It certainly lived up to its recommendation.
google avatar

Kelly O.

Yelp
Snag a seat at the end of the bar. Snag a glass of wine from Sean and some lovely banter. Order the hamachi crudo, the rib eye and the lobster Mac n cheese. Glorious.
google avatar

Eric K.

Yelp
After waiting over an hour for a spot at the bat to open up, I was finally seated. After my entree was served I was told, not asked, to move down a seat. Why wasn't I asked before my meal was served? I should have been asked if I wouldn't mind moving down a spot, which I certainly would have.
google avatar

Yelp
Wonderful place to dine! Dark & intimate and I am sure a fabulous place to dine on a date. We came as a family for Easter dinner and we were all enjoying the delicious food!
google avatar

Yelp
Gluten Free (Celiac) Steakhouse Closest I've been to a 5 star to date. The Tomahawk Ribeye for two (medium rare) was up there w/ the greats. I'm talking one step under LeBron and MJ. The Flatiron Wagyu was the best on the table, please get that. Ambiance + Staff great as well! Gluten cautious (careful of fries). Fell short of 5 stars because the special steak ($82 ribeye cap) was good but meh. Pricey, but the best dinner I've had in Aspen.
google avatar

Rob S.

Yelp
The food was amazing. Could be a steakhouse in Manhattan. Vibe is great - classy but relaxed. Leans toward romantic feel.

Cody R.

Yelp
Food was amazing and for the most part so was the service. But I was very disappointed to find out that they charged us for refills on ice teas and didn't mention it. The drinks are pretty small and if I'd known I'd be spending $100 on drink I would have gotten something alcoholic.
google avatar

Robin V.

Yelp
We had a delicious meal at this beautiful restaurant while celebrating my bday. They have excellent cocktails, steaks and a wonderful key lime pie. The decor is very sexy and loved sitting in the showgirl section!

Yelp
So...This review for the host..and only for the host... We had a reservation on February 8th at 5 pm for 2 ppl - Celebrating my birthday .( Yes , marked on the reservation) We got there on time Host was busy with regular - favorites ( blonde lady guest 4-6 ) We didn't exist...finally he realized that my friend had a broken arm - so he seated us ...Food Meal Service Alex TOP NOTCH - Then Waiter comes with a message " I am sorry to be the bad guy but the host asked you to finish ".

Alvin T.

Yelp
Excellent service, delicious food also great atmosphere. I definitely recommend if you love steak. For those who do not like steak or would rather eat seafood there are alternatives.

Fabiola G.

Yelp
My family of four went to dinner yesterday 8/27/23 and we were told this was the best steak house in Aspen and it is NOT. The service was good, not great, steak was good but overall food was very greasy and overcooked. We ordered potatoes pave and it tasted like burned potatoes with a cheap sauce. We also ordered the veggies and they were swimming in oil???!!! The ambiance is similar to a French restaurant where all the tables are close to each other that you can hear other people's conversations which is not ideal. If you want a good steak restaurant visit "The Monarch" also in Aspen and the food is to die for!
google avatar

Rob R.

Yelp
I just ate there on Saturday dec 17th. I ordered the tuna tartar and had food poisoning about 3 hours later. Fever in bed, vomit, and diarrhea. Stay away

David C.

Yelp
My family and I are foodies. All of us agree Outback and Texas Roadhouse have better steak than this place. Our drinks came out tasting like bitter soda water. It took almost 20 minutes for them to fix it and get us drinks. I ordered a chefs cut that I was told would be more tender than the wagyu. It was much tougher. It also had very little seasoning. My wife and son both ordered the wagyu. My son said his was under seasoned. My wife said hers was over-seasoned. When I tasted her steak it was heavily salted. In order to eat it she had to smother it with truffle butter. We also ordered fries and street corn. The fries tasted as they should. However, the street corn was missing powdered chili or chilito but was still good. We ordered carrot cake as a desert and all agreed it still had the taste of cardboard on it. I will never recommend this restaurant to any of my friends. It's overpriced and not worth the experience. Save your money and eat at Outback or Texas Roadhouse 3 times instead.
google avatar

Audrey O.

Yelp
These people know what they're doing. Ambiance is cozy and intimate, but the food would've tasted amazing anywhere. The prime filet was cooked to perfection, and we couldn't get enough of the sides (the cauliflower gratin and whipped potatoes, in particular). For dessert, we got key lime pie, cheesecake, and chocolate soufflé. This meal was a standout this year in Aspen!
google avatar

Timohty H.

Yelp
Food is great! Service is great. The ambiance is great. I'll be back again. Perhaps add lobster Mac and cheese to the menu?

Anton C.

Yelp
We come to this restaurant every year when we are in Aspen. Love the steak, but the foie is to die for. Service is professional. Great wine list as well. Love it!
google avatar

Pear A.

Yelp
Absolutely exceptional- Food, wine and services! Everyone was so professional and tried hard to do the best they can. Our server was so wonderful and we wish we remembered his name. Thank you! We appreciate this establishment- such a gem restaurant for Aspen. We had such a great time for our little boy's birthday!

Debbie C.

Yelp
Overpriced salty steak au par with Longhorn restaurant. If you enjoy over seasoned, salty meat. Hard to read the menu with the dim candle light. Tables are right on top of each other hard to get up to use restroom without bumping the person sitting behind you. The only food item I enjoyed was the corn. The carrot cake tasted like cardboard and icing disgusting!! Waiter was more polite and attentive at other tables than ours. Don't recommend!

Poonam D.

Yelp
The manager, Brent, is extremely rude. We are loyal customers and have come here 10+ times on trips to Aspen but will not be back. Our food was good but after spending over $500 it is sad to be treated so poorly. We couldn't even finish eating our dessert as Brent told us it was time to leave (in a very condescending manner) due to people waiting for tables. His delivery was extremely rude and not a way to treat customers. We usually look forward to our Aspen visits and this ruined our evening.
google avatar

Pam W.

Yelp
Beautiful steak house with the dark ambiance, red velvet couches and old hollywood pictures. Staff was great, friendly and efficient. Most menu items over priced. For our family of four it almost $600 and we didn't even order apps or dessert. It was nice to spoil our dad's but will experience other dining options next time.

John M.

Yelp
Absolutely wonderful experience and consistently great restaurant and experience! We love sitting at the bar with Clint as our bartender! So relaxed, fun and the food is excellent!
google avatar

Ashlee A.

Yelp
This place is an absolute MUST. We went here and the service was excellent! Our waiter was extremely helpful in his advice for which steaks to order and what sides were good. I ordered the filet and my husband had the NY strip and both were incredible. We had the twice baked potato, French friends, oysters and Brussel sprouts. Everything was so delicious. Our water glasses were never empty and we were regularly checked on. The sommelier helped select the wine and it was perfect. We will definitely come back the next time we are in town.

Fatima J.

Yelp
Racist and argumentative with customers. Served us a rare "tomahawk" when we asked for medium. Took it back then overcooked it to beyond well done. It was too late to eat anywhere else so we ate the food. Server asked how everything was and we gave her the feedback she asked for. She went to get a manager. We DID NOT ask for a manager. The manager flat out accused us of trying to get our meal for free!! We NEVER asked for that. We won't be back. The service and steaks are trash. Of course we were a table of minorities and this is how we were treated.
google avatar

Robert M.

Yelp
This restaurant is popular, but I can't recommend it to anyone on any kind of budget. My steak with tax and tip was $85-and that's without a first course, coffee, wine or dessert. So I would figure on spending $400+ for two people, which just doesn't sit well for me. There are other Aspen restaurants where you don't feel like you have to be a millionaire to dine out.
google avatar

Laura Z.

Yelp
Is was very nice food. Beautiful place, a little bit dark. And the service was great
google avatar

Chris C.

Yelp
The food was ok. The service was ok. The reason for only 2 stars is because once we were already seated at our table, the staff made us move seats. Normally not such a big deal but when you have two toddlers who are already situated and the waiter already serving drinks, there should be no movement of tables. Poor business practice.

Richard W.

Yelp
Excellent meats, amazing desserts, great service. We were there early on a Monday so it wasn't that busy, but would definitely come back.

Jeremy S.

Yelp
Well, sorry to be posting this. Steakhouse 316 used to be our favorite restaurant in Aspen. Been going there for years, have recommended it to countless newcomers to Aspen and always have a great dinner. It was for that reason that I booked it for this past Saturday night to celebrate my daughter's 18th birthday and my son's 21st. We saved it for the "special dinner" of the trip. Somehow, the time of our reservation got mixed up. I had it down for 7:30, they had it for 6:30. Oops. It happens. Arrest me. When I arrived, the self important host barked at me "You're AN HOUR LATE!" I was surprised and showed him my calendar event which said 7:30. He (with another snotty host staring me down) condescendingly responded "Well maybe you're from a different state so it has the wrong time." I apologized and asked if there was still a table available. He looked at the screen and snidely said, "uhh in AN HOUR." It was at that point that I'd had enough of being so rudely disrespected, not to mention humiliated in front of my wife and kids on what was supposed to be a celebratory night. We left. The lovely coat attendant (who saw it all and looked like she was cringing) followed us out, attempting to diffuse things and said "Maybe you can try our sister restaurant Monarch Steakhouse?" (PS we have also eaten there many times along with their other restaurant the Wild Fig.) No thanks. Luckily there is Catch Steak now so don't need to return to Steakhouse 000. What a shame. I hope the owners read this. I'm a foodie that frequents great restaurants around the globe (and also an executive at a major Hollywood studio) and trust me, I've seen this movie before. You're the hot place... until you're not. The way you treat your customers matters. I'll be sharing this wherever I can.

Kat C.

Yelp
The iceberg wedge was so special and yummy! The ribeye was fantastic and the server (Lauren) did a great job of helping us each find the perfect glass of wine to go with dinner. The restaurant is small and reminiscent inside of an old-time steakhouse in a good way. Will return!

Tanzy W.

Yelp
We ordered delivery after a full day of skiing so I haven't a review of the ambiance. We ordered a tomahawk, lamb chops, dover sole and an assortment of salads. Everything was cooked perfectly with a blushing center for the lamb and the tomahawk. The sole was exceptional and everything was warm and ready to serve when it arrived. I'll also call out the kale salad, which was unexpectedly tasty.

Yelp
We had a dinner 2 weeks ago and I waited to write a review. but in my travels I have not been so disappointed in quite some time. restaurant itself is nice and food was good. but service was below all standards to say the least. 2 hour wait for dinner and response from the server was "kitchen overcooked your fish and will be out in 5 min". 45 min later server did not check on our table and when I asked ETA on the food - non chalantly responded " manager checking on it- don't shoot the messenger". another 20min manager brought the food. when I asked what is happened we sitting here over 2 hours his response was " you don't want to eat overcooked fish do you?" dropped the food and left. not even apology. check however arrived super quick. I would expect something- sorry, free desert, but nothing. They need a new manager and attitude adjustment to say the least.

Patrice B.

Yelp
The best steak I have ever had with really really good sides. The wedge salad is a must and the bread pudding for dessert is great way to end a meal. The service is excellent and the atmosphere is very nice !! Always enjoy having dinner there !!

A P.

Yelp
This could have been a delightful dinner, but our interaction with the front of house was awful. This place asks you for a $150 per head guarantee for cancellations or if your entire party is not there within 10 minutes of your reservation. So we showed up on time and waited...and waited...and waited. When we asked about the delay, we were told that the people at our table weren't ready to leave and nothing could be done. No apologies for the delay, and the guy was pretty gruff in his delivery. So we stood for 30 minutes before being seated and received no apology or anything to make it up to us. Rough start to the evening! Appetizers were tasty, and people watching was great! However, my steak was not the temperature I ordered - but by that time I was so hungry I just ate the overcooked steak. Lord knows the manager wouldn't have done anything about it! I did tell the server to tell the chef he had overcooked my steak, so hopefully the chef could do better for someone else. Take my advice and go elsewhere for a better experience!
