This cozy hole-in-the-wall offers basic pizzas, heros, salads & calzones for takeout or delivery.
"A slice of spinach pizza ($4) from Stella's in Chelsea was now made with fresh spinach leaves interspersed with gobs of clean tasting ricotta, as garlic loomed in the background." - Robert Sietsema
"One of the best pizzerias in Manhattan is Stella’s, located across the street from the housing projects and just north of the glitzy restaurant Tao in Chelsea. And who can resist its meatball parm hero ($8), which is made on a compact loaf of Parisi Bakery bread? The meatballs are earthy and profuse; the cheese appropriately gooey, pulling away from to sandwich to your mouth after each bite; and the tomato sauce with a touch of sweetness. You can gobble the whole thing in one sitting (or standing), but probably shouldn’t." - Eater Staff
"Founded in 1997, this Chelsea mainstay seems far older. The regular slice is especially tomatoey and slightly salty, best enjoyed as part of the $5 lunch special (two slices and a can of soda). On the other hand, then you’d miss the dense white broccoli slice, which features cloudy masses of ricotta and mozzarella. Seating is limited to a gleaming metal counter, and you should see the line that winds out the door during mealtimes! Are those Roy Lichtenstein prints on the walls? He once lived nearby." - Robert Sietsema
