The Best Bistros & Wine Bars In Montreal - Montreal - The Infatuation

"Stem Bar’s location in the Little Burgundy strip places it right in the center of the action. The energy is high, both inside at the long bar or outside on the summertime streetside terrasse. Their classic, local-ingredient menu has something for vegetarians, pescatarians, and omnivores alike, and we love their signature burrata with savory pancakes, inventive salads and hanger steak, and any dessert they’re offering. There are two wine lists here: a regular, mostly natural list—including their collaboration with a Chilean winery on a light, chillable red Clarete—and another “secret” one, with bottles that might only appear fleetingly. They don’t take reservations, but there’s a comfortable standing room space to have a glass while you wait." - ivy lerner frank

The Best Wine Bars in Montreal | Eater Montreal

"After earning praise for their coffee and brunch, the team behind September Café opened Stem Bar next door, giving regulars a primo evening destination, too. Stem may share a kitchen with September, but come nighttime, it’s all about burrata on salted pancakes, cavatelli with braised lamb ragu, and beef carpaccio with celeriac instead of breakfast sandwiches and avocado toasts. And naturally, wine by the glass and beer on tap — not coffee — are the drinks of choice here." - Daniel Bromberg

The Best Restaurants in Montreal’s Little Burgundy | Eater Montreal

"Seasonal ingredients, natural wines, and local beers on tap are the focus at this promising new addition to the neighbourhood. It’s an expansion of neighbouring September Surf, where locals gather for avocado toast, fluffy pancakes, and a mean cold brew alongside other caffeinated drinks in the daytime." - Daniel Bromberg

everything was so good!! would def go back. LOVE the beef tartare ($22) with the potato crisps on top. brussel sprouts ($17) were also a crowd favourite. pancakes ($24) are talked about so much we had to try them. it was super interesting having them salty but i loved the texture, crispy outside paired with the smooth creamy burrata!! i'm already craving it again. hangar steak ($33) was also perfect. FYI we went for 6pm on a weekend with no wait time

High quality drinks and appies spot! Really friendly servers here that know all versions of the menu off the top of their head and somehow know exactly what you’ll love. I’m walking away from here still salivating from the sauce used on the Brussels sprouts- a challenge in itself to make those taste good! The deviled eggs were also a hit- my first time trying them and definitely an option I’ll choose elsewhere too! Stay away from the potato wedges- way too plain!

I’ve been meaning to try this place for a while and I am glad I finally did. The food was amazing and I really like the ambiance and decor. My sister and I ordered the savoury pancakes, the Brussels sprouts and the onglet steak. My personal favourite was the pancakes, they are perfectly fluffy and buttery I wish I could have more. The Brussels sprouts were crispy on the outside and yet perfectly chewy and crunchy and soft on the inside. We did find a hair (not ours) in the Brussels sprouts and we notified one of the waitresses. She apologized immediately and took it back and brought is a new plate of it and deducted it from our bill and apologized again. I am appreciative of Stem’s professionalism in the matter and won’t deduct points for that. Also, as someone with an allergy, I like that they ask about allergies when you order. I highly recommend this place!

Looove this place. However we waited long to get our table and the place was super crowded and loud, hard to talk to each other. We had the burrata pancakes, the brussel sprouts and the lamb pasta, everything was delicious. The margaritas were great too! Overall good experience.

Really enjoyed this place! The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, the service was excellent, and the appetizers were absolutely delicious. I also liked their selection of wine and beer — everything was great. Definitely worth a visit

Exceptional from start to finish. STEM does not take reservations, but when we arrived on Friday at 7pm, we went straight up to the bar, where there was plenty of seating. We were greeted warmly by the staff who were very helpful in recommending what to eat and drink. Although STEM appears to be a bar first and a restaurant second, everything we ate was truly exceptional—well presented dishes which were original and the perfect sharing portion. The cocktails are straightforward and no-frills, but prepared well. The wine selections by the glass were the perfect pairing to the meal, a light crisp red perfect for summer nights. We sampled the smoked trout fritters, which were topped with caviar—crisp on the outside and creamy in the middle. Next we had a pile of crisp brussels sprouts which had a great balance of flavour and texture. This went well with the unique salted pancakes with burrata. Underneath the burrata was a pile of delicious truffle shavings which elevated the dish, it was truly delicious. Finally, we had the spinach rotolo which sat on a pool of delicious and creamy tomato sauce. The meal was filling and the perfect portion for sharing. There are many more dishes on the menu that we would like to try and we will most definitely return again! Overall, the atmosphere, cocktails, wine and high-quality dishes make STEM bar an excellent value and a great date night locale in a neighborhood known for excellent eateries!

We arrived at 6:20 because last time we went at 8:00 was a 1 hour wait, so make sure to arrive early since they don’t take reservations. The burrata truffle pancakes were our favourite dish. We also had the tuna tartar (a tiny bit bland), trout croquettes (crunchy and flavourful), cavatelli (comforting and filling), and brussel sprouts (a lot of sauce, though they could have been more crispy). Overall everything was good! However the cocktails were disappointing (amaretto sour, espresso martini, dirty martini). The atmosphere is great and the staff is really friendly, and we appreciated that they weren’t rushing us out after eating.

Yelp
Absolute favourite in Montreal. Service is impeccable, wine selection is fantastic (especially if you like funkier organic wines) and the food is always spot on. They change the menu quite often so we like to come and be surprised by the chef's creations. All dishes that we have tried have been fantastic. Special shout-out to my favorites (sometimes not on menu as these are seasonal: any form of fish crudo, Brussels sprout , beet carpaccio and the pancakes.

Yelp
Awesome New little bar I was happy to see they opened after their cafe. I can't wait to bring my friends by to make a night out of it

Yelp
Stem had great food, wine, and acceptable service, but it was so packed and noisy that it was hard to focus on the offerings. I was able to get a spot at the bar around 7pm on a Thursday. It was very loud and difficult to hear/order from the bartender, and I constantly had folks kicking my stool and brushing up against my back. (A large after-work group was directly behind me, with about 12-15 people crowded around a 6-seat high-top table.) I still give 4 stars because the food I ordered--brussels sprouts and endive and bleu salad--were both incredible, and the wine was a great pair. This would be a 5-star spot with a bit more crowd-control (or reservations, which aren't currently offered), which would free up some bandwidth for the staff to give more attention to customers, rather than seating the next table or trying to keep up with incoming orders.

Yelp
I have been returning to this restaurant for 6 months now and can not say enough about the plavce. The menu is great and the service matches the food. It is tapas style with some creative dishes. I met the chief at September the Cafe adjoining the restaurant. and the food there is also exceptional.

Yelp
We have been eating at the sister restaurant next door to Stem the coffee shop September for several years now. Their menu is creative and excellently prepared. Stem opened next door and we had diner there and the food was exceptional and when I enquired the chief is Kevin who has been behind the menu at September. He is clearly a talented chief. I also found the service excellent. In my opinion their desserts were good but not at the same standard as the appetizers and main courses.Definitely I will be returning.
