"Strangeways is an outdoor-only restaurant on Metropolitan Avenue in Williamsburg that looks like it could win a garden design competition show. Along with landscaping, they’re also serious about natural wine at this American spot, so keep it in mind for a casual date with someone who cares about tannins and varietals. Their backyard cheeseburger tastes like it was grilled by someone who sends you holiday cards every year in a good way, but you can also get things like pork cheek vindaloo, clam spaghetti, and a ricotta flatbread. Strangeways has a bunch of covered picnic tables up front that work for small groups, plus there’s a quieter corner in the back with a bunch of two-top tables." - Nikko Duren

StrangeWay Brewery in Williamsburg is a must-visit for anyone who loves a good beer adventure. They have an awesome selection of beers, each one color-coded by flavor—sweet, salty, tangy, hoppy, and more. It's a fun and easy way to try something new and discover what you like best. The bar itself is pretty cool too. We stopped by on a Wednesday evening after work, and it was just what we needed. The place was chill and not too crowded, plus they have this huge, gorgeous patio outside that's perfect for hanging out. Ian, our bartender, was super friendly and made our visit even better. He knew all about the beers and gave us great recommendations. The only downside? It's a bit pricey. Flights are usually cheaper elsewhere, but here, each 5-ounce glass costs $5 to $7. Still, the unique experience makes it worth it. If you’re into trying new beers or just want a nice spot to relax, you should definitely check out StrangeWay Brewery. Have you been there? What was your favorite beer? What do you think of the color-coded flavors? I'd love to hear what you think!

Very good service, pumpkin beer, and a pretzle. They have a vast selection of beers on tap. Small selection of food choices as well.

Great place, a must stop for sure! Don't miss out on this unique place and there stellar beer concoctions! Lucky charms beer (natural green German ingredient not food coloring) with lucky charms marshmallows on top, YES Please! Barbie beer, full of glitter like a snow globe (you don't even know there is glitter in it when you drink it), YES please and it's beautiful to watch! Sad I didn't get to try them all but if I'm in the area again I'll definitely be back! Music from Damien Allen is stellar, if he is there then stop in for a listen and a song request. You won't regret it. Keep doing what your doing and If you ever want to expand to Maine that would be fantastic lol 😁

We love Strangeways in Richmond, and we took the opportunity we were in Williamsburg to visit this other location. I was a little hesitant, because I do not really enjoy stripmall breweries. I thought this would be the case. I did not really know what to expect. However, the setting, for being very close to the road, and the city, does not disappoint. it has plenty of outdoor seating and very inviting space. Indoor, the taproom is very inviting with plenty of areas to sit and very interesting decor. Very pleasant servers and the beers are very tasty. Even so, we went for the Cider, which did not disappoint either. we did not eat here but they have snacks available. Plenty of parking space around the shopping area.

Enjoyable experience. Bartender was knowledgeable when asked more than base questions, knew hops, knew barleys more than just what their sign said. Would for sure come back!

Google
Strangeways in Williamsburg is a cool little spot to have a drink and just hang out, or celebrate a special occasion. My friends and I took advantage of the unique space and variety of beverages and snacks for an unforgettable evening. Ian and Kia took care of us and made our night even that more amazing. Special thanks to Jenna, who overlooked everything and went out of her way to accommodate our group. 5 stars!!!

We sign the highway sign and decided to try them out while on vacation. Great place! James at the taps was very helpful walking us through the offerings, there are quite a few. I choose a flight of sours, my partner ordered a 20oz. They offer lights, sweet/sours, Hoppy, Dark/Malt, ciders, zeltzers, and wine. There is an option for everyone. The beers were fantastic! I would highly recommend the Razzle Dazzle sour and the Playday Pilsner. I enjoyed both. We ordered a large Brauhaus pretzel which came out piping hot. They have an agreement with a Mexican restaurant next door allowing you to order and have your Mexican delivered here to the brewery. We were welcomed upon entering and made to feel like a regular by staff and patrons alike. The indoor space is large with a mix of small tables and larger seating up to 10. They also offer outdoor seating Stop by, you won't be disappointed!

Google
Visited several breweries. Definitely the best presentation. Our favorite beer was the Gnar. The beertender wasn’t overly friendly but nice enough and offered us peanuts with our beer. The snack flight was a nice touch that we took advantage of. Will visit again

Yelp
Plenty of options with strange, slightly off putting decor. I came here with a group for trivia, which was very fun. It did get very loud, but that's on par for any brewery. There were a lot of drink options, but not many snacks, so if you come here, eat before or have a plan to grab food after. I got the Sapphire Robot, which was sweet without being overwhelming. As someone who doesn't like beer that much, this was perfect. The decor was strange, which works for the name, but it put off my friends. If a ton of taxidermy bothers you, maybe skip it.

Yelp
Strangeways is my favorite brewery because of the amount of different beers available for every beer lover! The flavors are so unique and so many beers are PRETTY in the glass. There is plenty of seating inside and out. The parking lot is big and they do offer bar snacks like nuts and pretzels. The staff has been very helpful in choosing the right beer for my taste. It's a freindly and inclusive venue. I wish they had one closer to Portsmouth/Norfolk but it is 100% worth the drive to Williamsburg!! My favorites are the Lucky Charm, Barbie, and they had a seasonal Spritzer last fall that I could not get enough of- might have been cranberry or raspberry, whatever it was it was amazing.

Yelp
Strangeways is consistently amazing! I first had Strangeways at their Richmond location back in 2016. So moving back to this area and discovering they had a location closer to my new home was exciting. My partner loves lagers and I like fruity "girly" beers. Strange has enough section to suit both our preferences. The service is great, and the bar tenders are personable and knowledgeable. There's plenty of seating and an outdoor area. An absolute gem to add to the shops at High St.

Yelp
Great beer selection (along with some wine and cider). Decent food / snack menu as well. For most of the time we were there, however, there was only one person working, so there was a bit of a wait. Toilet in women's restroom didn't flush. Nice outdoor seating area in warmer weather.

Yelp
THE BIG: Tons of unique combinations and concoctions here at Strangeways. I guess that's why their name is called Strangeways. They've got breweries in Richmond and Fredericksburg. Parking is available in the shared parking lot. THE BLACK AND WHITE: Wrapping up the beer tour was Strangeways. The space inside was new and it's that typical brewery asthetic with the wooden chalk signs up. To do a flight, you purchase per 5oz. We got the Helles Frozen Over (Helles), Millenium Falconer (West Coast IPA), Cin-A-Man-Bun Cinnamon Roll (Brown Ale), Get Slayed (NEIPA), and Lucky Charms (Berliner Weisse). All were good and the most memorable was the Lucky Charms which had floating marshmallows from lucky charms on top. A bit sweet but interesting combination. THE FINAL BAMBOO: Overall a flight of 5 beers was ~$24. A little pricey but you pay for the 5oz pours. There's so much experimentation here, will definitely be back.

Matthew M.

Yelp
BLUF: great variety, worth a stop. Bring friends. Grab some beer to go! Excellent variety of beers (Berliner Weiss was my favorite), friendly and knowledgeable staff, relaxed (and strange, but in a good way) vibe. Flights come with 4-10 5.5 oz pours. Come with friends and order a variety so you can try many different things.

Sarah Q.

Yelp
Fun selection and friendly staff! Can get pretty loud in the main room if it's busy, but there is plenty of outdoor seating. Really like that you can get food delivered from some of the neighboring restaurants! Personally love their selection of seltzers - If you're not a big beer drinker, the staff will help you navigate the options!

Caroline J.

Yelp
Alright this gets 3 stars because the beers are not good! Sampled 6 of them and only one was decent. They do have a huge beer list but maybe narrow it down a bit and focus on making the beers better. The three stars are for good service and the venue is nice and large. Their outside area is nice and they even have live music occasionally on the weekends. You can bring in food from outside places to eat.

Scott G.

Yelp
Cool brewery in Williamsburg limited food selection but a good choice of beers and organized on the menu by types.

Alyson B.

Yelp
I've always loved going to Strangeways when I would visit Richmond, so when I heard they were opening up here, I was pumped! Their location is a great spot with tons of outdoor and indoor seating options. They have A TON of beer selections as well as wine, so something for everyone! I love the vibe and there is a ton of merch to purchase. The only downside (I'd give 4.5 stars if possible) is how noisy it gets inside. It is hard to have a conversation or even order if it's busy of there's a band playing. But, like I said, there are so many outdoor seating options. Go and enjoy! Cheers!

Elizabeth K.

Yelp
I am very impressed with their beers. As a brewer myself, I have a pet-peeve with beers that are labeled "peanut butter" or "raspberry", but neither smell or taste like their descriptions. Perhaps I place too much emphasize on flavored beers and I should be more of a beer-purist, but it just isn't in my nature. Strangeways has some of the best flavored beers I have tasted in a commercial brewery. Their Ape Armageddon Virginia Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stout is fantastically-strong at 12.2% ABV and reeked of bourbon. Their Bavarian Rhapsody Hefeweizen was a beer you can drink all night and enjoy every sip. The Lore of the Land Barleywine was the best barelywine I have had commercially, but this is a sipper and not one you are going to get a second glass of. My favorite of the night had to be Damn Skippy Peanut Butter Porter and you guessed it, it actually smelled and tasted like peanuts. The only negatives I found was that the space is large and not designed for amplified, live music. It was so loud that we ended up sitting outside. I will most likely go back when either the weather is nice or when the live music isn't playing.

Yelp
Fun place to try some new beers with a friendly atmosphere. It seems as if it a meeting place for all ages. I would go back!

Tommy A.

Yelp
Awesome service, they will treat you like a friend, well worth the visit. Taproom manager Jenna is awesome, so is Antonio

Yelp
We are visiting Williamsburg, VA for a work trip and decided to see what the local breweries were like here. We love visiting breweries when we travel and I have to say this is some of the best beer I've had! My husband and I sampled a few different beers and they were all delicious. My personal favorite was the Red Sangria red currant Berliner Weisse, his was the Wampus Cat triple IPA! Our server, Ian, was very friendly and attentive. He heard us discussing the menu and talking about one we wanted to try and immediately brought over a sample without us have to ask (it was a pastry stout and delicious as well)! The atmosphere is very relaxed and clean. There is spacious indoor and outdoor seating. The bathrooms were clean as well. 10/10 recommend if you're ever in Williamsburg!

Janeen M.

Yelp
Very cool open brewery in Williamsburg. Located near a ton of shopping and food options. This brewery offers flights and single serve beers. Complimentary peanuts with purchase! The we went on a Saturday during lunch (12:30pm). It was quiet with only a few patrons. Loved the openness of the space. They have a small food menus available. Loved the large selection of beer and seltzer.

Jesse P.

Yelp
I've been to the Richmond location as well. This location is in a shopping center and much more modern. The inside is colorful, open spaced and lots of cool wild game mounts on the walls. The beer menu is large with lots of cool flavors. The lucky charms sour is soo cool and they put actual cereal on top. There's an imperial version as well.

Denise W.

Yelp
Wasn't thrilled with the bar service- the guy who waited on us seemed thoroughly annoyed and missed an order of the pretzel bites- the drinks were good though.

Ian U.

Yelp
Amazing selection of beers, I haven't been to another place in town that has this wide variety of selections. I've tried over 15 of the beers in all different style and haven't found a beer that I have disliked. Definitely will be coming back here and recommending it to other people in town.

Walter A.

Yelp
The staff were great. Large selection of beer and appetizers. Big space with low and high tops. Quick service. Good beverages. Clean and safe location.

Jenna P.

Yelp
Just left the Williamsburg location. Beers were amazing and staff was wonderful and the atmosphere was perfect. Kids definitely welcome. Brewer the Barbie is loving her new home, thanks to the amazing bartender. We had a great time.

Richard M.

Yelp
Walked in, said hello... staff just stared. Bought a 4 pack of pints for 16.00 just to show love to local business (hazelnut spread porter) and my stomach is wrecked. Big mistake.

Rick O.

Yelp
The beer is pretty expensive, some of the pours are around $10 or so. If you got big beer money, then this place is for you. Patio is pretty nice, but otherwise, it's an average brewery and there are dead animals on the wall which mock you with their cold, dead stares.

Bruce F.

Yelp
If I could give Strangeways six stars, I would !!! Love this place! Every time I come in here, I have a blast... Cool vibe, great service, and, of course, amazing beers! Keep up the awesome work, gang!

The G.

Yelp
I love this place. The customer service is amazing, especially Lily. She's totally the best. The beer is great and the room is fun. I highly recommend this place.

Fidel A.

Yelp
For those who have visited the tasting rooms at Richmond or Fredericksburg, you will not be disappointed with Williamsburg. Strangeways is simply a fun place to visit, sit with friends, and enjoy their vast and exotic (not saying strange) flavors of beer. The staffs are friendly, down to earth, and have a keen knowledge of what's on tap, so don't be afraid to ask. If you've never visited Strangeways Brewing before, then I recommend a "stopover" before or after a movie, 'cuz you're in for a treat and I'm pretty sure you'll come back.

Trudy R.

Yelp
Not much to eat here. Just a few snacks. We got the chips w/cheese dip. The cheese dip cup was about 1/3 full. Only enough for about 4 chips. Craft beers are expensive. 2 - 13 Oz beers, chips/cheese dip and pretzel bites was almost $30.

Tony Z.

Yelp
Stopped in last fall on the way back from the beach to grab some beers. Loved the hanging lights and tall ceilings! We sat outside so we could people watch, great location for that. Beer was on point as always, we'll definitely stop in again next time we're in Williamsburg.

Jacqui B.

Yelp
Great selection of beers, and all those I tried were good! The location is convenient, and the space is open and casual. It is on the expensive side, though.

Andrew G.

Yelp
A new and fabulous brewery experience in Williamsburg. Very open and friendly atmosphere with lots of room for sitting and socializing. Staff is friendly and attentive. Huge selection of Strangeways craft beers on tap to pick from. The beer menu is clear and easy to read when choosing a style of craft beer. Did I mention how huge this place is. The brewery is decorated with all kinds of Strangeways decorations and cool furnishings like couches made from the front ends of cars. There is a massive selection of Strangeways clothing and merchandise like cups, hats, magnets, bottle openers, and sweatshirts. Did I mention the huge selection of craft beers on tap... Anyway, parking is easy as they have an almost unlimited parking spaces in the shopping center on High Street. You will have to experience the "The Thunderdome Lodge" as the huge space is known. Sound is magnified under the dome. Great place to meet to get togethers and families as there are plenty of refreshments for nondrinkers and lots of food choices in the immediate area to choose from. Beer prices are affordable and even for the merchandise that is for sale. Overall, a refreshing brewery to visit and a welcomed addition to the Williamsburg craft beer breweries. There is plenty of outside patio seating facing Richmond Rd as well as seating facing the High Street side.

Caroline J.

Yelp
Facebook and Instagram bios distinctly say they are "family-friendly" yet they do not have a diaper changing station in any bathroom. While I understand changing stations are not a requirement by law, it feels wrong to claim publicly to be family-friendly yet not have a basic need available for those with small children.

Jason T.

Yelp
The vibe here is not great it's usually pretty empty. I also don't like how expensive it is.

MJ G.

Yelp
The three stars are for the large choice of beers organized in an easy to read format (And I'm being generous at that). After a couple of beer samples, my husband and I chose to enjoy a nice but unremarkable porter. There was a person on a stage, dressed in drag, loudly calling a Bingo game and he/she would frequently let out a very loud "whoop" along with calling Bingo. Very loud, bizarre, and we couldn't hear each other talk. They do not off any food choices other than chips with hot cheese, salsa, or pretzels. We were told we could order a pizza on our phones and have it delivered (? we could do that at home). Not the kind of place two retirees with pockets of money would want to frequent on a regular basis. We want, and are willing to pay for, great food, chill atmosphere (where you can actually talk to one another) AND beer.

Ted G.

Yelp
Had a great visit to Strangeways in Williamsburg. The space was great with plenty of room inside as well as outside seating for nice weather days. They have a lot of variety of good beer on draught, so confident you will find something for everyone. Will certainly be back next time I'm in town.

Brad B.

Yelp
Been wanting to try this place since they opened. We did a run of some of the local breweries today and this was my least favorite. Three of the four beers we sampled were bitter. It was by far the most expensive brewery we went to. The most disappointing thing was that the bartenders were very unfriendly. One gave you a death stare if you asked a simple question. Not planning on returning.
