Open-air, brick-lined eatery serving New American dishes for brunch & dinner, plus cocktails & wine.
"This outdoor-only Williamsburg spot could win a garden show. The restaurant is essentially one huge covered patio surrounded by hanging plants, towering trees, and potted plants. Up front, they’ve got a row of picnic tables that work for small groups, and there’s a quieter corner in the back with a bunch of two-top tables. We're fans of the burger that tastes like something you'd eat at a backyard barbecue, but you can also get anything from mussel ceviche to braised lamb collar." - neha talreja, bryan kim, nikko duren, molly fitzpatrick
"Strangeways, an American restaurant that opened at the height of the pandemic, has closed. The restaurant did not announce the closure online; based on online reviews, the doors seem to have closed in the last month or so. The restaurant was run by Ken Addington, a chef who rose to prominence while working at Greenpoint’s popular Five Leaves restaurant. He opened Strangeways as a 90-seat outdoor restaurant when indoor dining was off-limits. The dining room followed later." - Luke Fortney
"Strangeways is owned by Ken Addington, who is now leading the kitchen at Casino." - Emma Orlow
"Strangeways could easily win a garden design competition show. The Williamsburg spot has a huge covered patio surrounded by hanging plants, towering trees, and potted plants. Plus, this outdoor-only restaurant has two giant fans pushing a cool breeze throughout the patio area. The coolest seats are the picnic tables up front, but there’s also a quieter corner in the back with a bunch of two-top tables that should get some peripheral gusts of wind. In addition to cold air, Strangeways serves an excellent burger with a dry-aged patty covered in a cascading layer of sharp cheddar and topped with lettuce, onion, and special sauce." - nikko duren
"The backyard burger at Strangeways tastes like something your uncle would grill on a Sunday afternoon. It’s nothing too fancy, but the dry-aged patty comes covered in a cascading layer of sharp cheddar cheese that pairs well with its nicely charred edges. With just lettuce, onion, and special sauce, this burger will bring you back to the basics in the best way possible." - Team Infatuation
