Studio Aurora - Review - Mission - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"Aurora Centro had a brief stint in Salesforce Park before moving to the Mission and becoming Studio Aurora, a loungey Italian-ish lunch restaurant (for now—extended hours and a longer menu of tapas and wine are in the works). And just like its former version, Studio Aurora continues the panini legacy with crusty sandwiches layered with mortadella, curried chickpeas, and tuna confit. Music is still a focus, too—not only is the lofted space home to a local radio station, but the restaurant also sells records. Or, if non-perishable fish is more your speed, head to the stock of imported tinned sardines and anchovies available for purchase." - Patrick Wong

The DDD is one of the best sandwiches I’ve had in the city. Ever had? Possibly. Absolutely astounding flavor and consistency. A fun spot to buy a bottle of wine to uncork while you eat. Well-curated and varied tunes play at the perfect volume. Thriving plants, sweet staff, a lovely curation of art and a sense of humor with their sticker collection left me with not a single disappointment. It’s officially one of my favorite spots in the Bay. I only wish I was in walking distance!

Incredible spot! Fabulous staff, food, and thoughtful events. So glad to have Studio Aurora and Fault Radio in the neighborhood!

Unfortunately, I had a very disappointing experience here and feel compelled to share it to help future customers set expectations. The service was careless from the start — my friend’s order was mistakenly served to me. When I pointed it out, the cashier didn’t acknowledge the mix-up or even offer a simple apology. He just stayed at the counter, as if nothing happened. Our table was near the counter, and he clearly overheard us talking about the situation. Instead of addressing it professionally, he came over and asked, “Do you have any problem?” in a confrontational tone. My dog, who has never barked at a person before, began barking at him — clearly sensing the tension. I stepped outside to calm my dog and returned to quietly finish my meal, but he continued to argue with the rest of my group inside. There were several other dogs present, but he singled mine out and told me to take my dog outside — despite the fact that it was his behavior that had escalated the situation. I had initially decided to let the order mix-up go without complaint, but the way this guy handled it — with zero accountability, no customer service, and an unnecessarily rude attitude — completely ruined the experience. I won’t be returning, and I don’t recommend this place to anyone expecting “service” or a respectful atmosphere.

SO happy Aurora is in the Mission!! A GEM. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate, the food is absolutely delicious, and it's super puppy-friendly. Great vibes all around—highly recommend! 🐾✨

My husband is the most respectful and supportive customer, and I have personally seen him handle a lot of stressful situations with patience and leeway when it comes to small businesses. Thus, imagine my surprise when he gets into a confrontation at this establishment due to the disrespectful and aggressive customer service experienced here. I am very disappointed with the staff, their hostility, and lack of accountability. It is okay to have a bad day and make mistakes, but please do not take it out on your customers who were not even looking for anything except an acknowledgment or apology. Please stay away if you do not want your day to be suddenly, unexpectedly ruined by a needless escalation and retaliation of simple customer feedback of a messed up order.

Amazing new place in the Mission! No pictures of food because we ate it so fast (grilled cheese with tuna and caesar salad were both great). Chill vibe with open space feel make for pleasant dining.

Great sandwiches of course, but don't skip their pantry section! It's the only place I've found outside of Japan that sells my favorite brand of furikake.

Yelp
What a gem of a space! I'd visited Alimentari Aurora in Potrero before (although I've never gotten their sandwiches), but Studio Aurora by the same guy is a much more lounge-able spot for lunch. I came on a weekday and there were people working remotely, catching up over lunch, etc. The guy working there when I visited was from Fault Radio who I gathered is a partner of the space. He was super nice and it felt really nice to support a local neighborhood spot. For food, we tried the DDD panino (mortadella, pistachio mint pesto, pickled onions, jalapenos, fennel, arugula, cheddar on a baguette) and one of their specials (chili garlic roast beef on a kaiser roll). They were such contrasting sandwiches (one crusty baguette sandwich, one soft pilllow-y kaiser roll sandwich) but both so good! We also tried their curry wurst which was a fun warm snack on the side. All of the food felt really high quality and creative and I'm already excited to try more!

Yelp
Very bright and open space with a cute lil section selling canned fish and other Italian pantry items. Picked up some cold cuts from the fridge and anchovies, but didn't have time to experience a service (classic panini and Caesar) as they are soft opening! Glad to see someone take over from the previous cafe (Milk) that occupied the space - especially someone like Dario and team who have a proven concept with other local delis (Alimentari Aurora and Aurora Centro). Hoping that this space will have more activation from their time at Salesforce Park and excited for this tapas bistro concept. They open for regular hours starting 11/12 Tues-Sun from 11am-5pm!

Yelp
Been here a few times now and had two different sandwiches and both were really tasty! The customer service here is also tops and apparently they have some really good coffee (I don't drink coffee, but was offered some and talked to a patron about it a bit during a casual convo while i was there ordering). The space itself is really nice too. This used to be Milk and the wood floors and openness are still there. A great spot to eat in at and relax. Definitely a nice addition to the neighborhood and already in my lunch rotation!

Yelp
Had the tuna and mortadella paninis. High quality, unique without being too crazy, good value for SF. Bright, casual space. Absolute gem. Will definitely be going back and will have hard time order anything new, bc these were so good, but I'm sure I'd be shortchanging myself.
