I attempted to enter Sugar Room two weekends ago, however, the door attendant said my Jordan's were against company policy. I informed him that my shoes were designer sneakers, not Jordan's. I agree, Jordan's aren't appropriate for night clubs. In fact, I do not own a single pair of Jordan's, only casual and designer sneakers. Fast forward, the door attendant spoke to someone inside and came back to tell me that I could enter for $20 since my shoes were unacceptable. I politely declined.
Something compelled me to wait outside of the venue to monitor who the attendant allowed to enter and who he did not.
So, a few minutes afterwards, a group of 8 black and brown people attempted to enter but were also turned around because of their athletic sneakers (none were Jordan's).
I decided to wait a few more moments and then the predictable happened: A white couple entered. The chick had on flip flops/"sandals", and her guy had on athletic jogging shoes. With no hesitation and without charging a fee, the door attendant allowed the couple to enter.
It is also important to note, the company does not have a dress code policy posted on their website, allowing them to implement racist and discriminatory business practices that disproportionally affect black and brown people. I do not recommend at all. If you want us to stop talking about race, you must first stop being racist! Don't just take my word for it, look at several other reviews complaining about the same thing. Implementing a dress code policy would be a quick fix, ensuring consistency and fairness for all.
