"Between the bright pink neon sign on the side of the building and the propped-open “exit” door, Sugar Room barely fits into the speakeasy category. But after shuffling through a dry storage room, finding the bar is like a grand reveal. The dimly lit Washington Heights joint fills with friends drinking lemon drops and couples holding hands on couches and giggling over 2000s R&B. On the weekends, you can hear DJs from down the block, which makes Sugar Room even less discreet than normal. But that’s a fine tradeoff for all the fun." - Gianni Greene
