Sugarfish in Soho serves up fresh, high-quality sushi and sake in a chic spot where the "Trust Me" menu offers an affordable taste adventure.
"Sugarfish is a 15-year-old Los Angeles chain that emphasizes high-quality fish. It arrived here in 2016 and now has six branches in Manhattan. Assortments are available at several price levels, beginning at $32 and running up to $76, typically starting with a piece of sashimi, then proceeding to seasoned nigiri sushi delivered one or two pieces at a time, ending with a hand roll." - Robert Sietsema
"Sugarfish — the popular Los Angeles sushi import known for long waits — has expanded to Soho. Now open at 202 Spring St., at Sullivan Street, the Soho location quietly opened in mid February with the same menu as the Flatiron location. There is a la carte sushi and rolls, but what Sugarfish is known for is its affordable-by-comparison “trust me” sets. At $28, $40, and $52 — up a dollar each since 2016 — the sets come with varying amounts of sushi and sashimi. The Soho space is 1,700-square-feet with 42 seats, the same number as in Flatiron. Sugarfish has been driving sushi lovers wild since 2008. It now has 11 locations around Los Angeles, and expanded to New York City in Flatiron in 2016. It’s been packed ever since it debuted, often commanding three-hour waits — despite tepid reviews. Sugarfish Soho is open Monday through Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to midnight and Sunday from noon to 11 p.m." - Stefanie Tuder
"In Los Angeles, there are a dozen Sugarfish locations. In New York, there are now two. The Soho outpost is similar to the Flatiron one, with the exact same menu of satisfying set price sushi meals that range from $28-$52 at dinner and $23-$45 at lunch, including tip. As it expands, Sugarfish somehow manages to be as consistent as Shake Shack, and that remains true here. Expect waits. For your best chance at avoiding them, come for a weekday lunch." - Hillary Reinsberg
