Summer Rolls - Review - Rosemead - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Summer Rolls is a Vietnamese spot in Rosemead with a menu of classic dishes like phở and rice vermicelli. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation

The Best Spicy Condiment at Trader Joe’s Is the Habanero Hot Sauce - Eater

"I go to this place called Summer Rolls in LA, that serves Vietnamese spring rolls with crispy egg rolls inside. They have like a sweet, thickened rice dipping sauce that they serve with it, but I’ll make my fiancé smuggle a bottle of hot sauce in with us, and dip the pork spring rolls directly into it." - Marian Bull

This is my new favorite Vietnamese restaurant in the area! It is a bit pricier than other places in the area, but I don't mind since the quality of food is worth it in my opinion. We ordered a variety of items for our small group, and everything I tried definitely hit all the right notes. The nem nuong summer rolls as appetizer has the thick nem nuong and added crispy textures. The variety of meats on com tam/broken rice or bun/rice vermicelli are all very well seasoned. My vietnamese relative approves the flavors of bun bo hue, although the portion is a bit smaller compared to other places. The item that impressed me was the banh mi. It is pricier than your average banh mi, but packed with tasty meats and 2 whole fried eggs. Great amount of yummy sauce and vegetables to balance it all out. They used a different kind of bread instead of traditional baguette, but works really well in my opinion. Restaurant is full on Sunday but not hectic, so atmosphere is relaxing for a nice dinner out. The decor and ambiance has nice touches to them. Also I found out they have 2 locations. This location has more space and better for groups. The other is a bit more trendy/poppy from what I heard. Still very similar menu.

Good bun bo hue. Great rolls but I prefer the traditional chili fish sauce more than their chunky sweet orange porridge dip.

**A Hidden Gem of Authentic Vietnamese Cuisine** We came on a Saturday to enjoy some of our favorite dishes at the original Summer Roll location in Rosemead. This place has been around forever, and it's like coming home for a meal with family. We know the family that owns the restaurant, and they are always so friendly and welcoming. We had their *nam*, *bun bo hue* (pig foot noodle soup), *banh beo* (steamed rice cakes), and *banh xeo* (Vietnamese crepe with bean sprouts and seafood). The food is from the Hue region of Vietnam, and they do it so well—everything was flavorful, authentic, and delicious. While the decor here may not be as modern as their newer location in Temple City, this spot has that charm and authenticity that reminds you of a true family-run restaurant. We've admittedly neglected this location, but after this visit, we plan to come back more often. The food is excellent, and the warm, homey atmosphere makes the experience even better. Highly recommend if you're looking for a taste of genuine Vietnamese.

Google
Very interesting rice bowl - Banh Beo, I don't think there are any in Northern California. Spring roll also different because inside radish has a sweet and sour taste, good match with pork , so testy ! Must try when you are around Arcadia Los Angeles !

Google
Ordered chicken and pork banh mi sandwiches; featured large chunks of well seasoned meat, fresh cilantro and veggies on both sandwiches. Price was a bit higher but expected for LA area. Ciabatti bread is unique use for banh mi but not bad; just unique.

Google
The summer rolls were delicious. The customer service could be better/friendlier. We felt ignored but they were quite busy. They have a little parking lot on the side and the back of the building.

Google
This is the best place to get nem Nuong cuon( fermented pork roll) and Bánh Bèo(steamed rice cake with shredded dried shrimp, croutons and spring onion). The rolls came with the special thick dipping sauce and the steamed rice came with the fish sauce. They have other Vietnamese dishes as well. The Vietnamese crepe is also one of my favorites. The service was quick Ann’s efficient. The place is a bit small but they get you in and out quickly.

Google
Popular Vietnamese restaurant. The food was good. They don’t have traditional pho there. The most popular dish seems to be the little dish with rice cakes. Most customers there are Vietnamese and almost every one was eating that rice cake dish.

Yelp
Been coming here with my parents for over 15 years now. This was before they rebranded as Summer rolls. Food has always been great, albeit a good bit more expensive now than back then. Their summer rolls are definitely some of the best in the area. Honestly it's better than a lot of the places in Viet Nam too. Can't go wrong with anything here but my favorites are any of the summer rolls, the banh beo or if you're feeling less lazy than I usually am get the set so you can build your own adventure!

Yelp
Parking in back. Was seated quickly on a Saturday afternoon. Can get packed. Service was good. Food was good. Bun bo hue: good Vermicelli: good Lemonade sparkling drink: good Spot inside is limited. Environment was chill.

Yelp
YUM! Their well-known summer rolls (spring rolls) are great! Brodards in OC has been slacking and hasn't been as good last time I went. This place is better! Note they do not have Pho here. But get their Bun Bo Hue if you want soup. Or try their vermicelli dishes- they're fresh with large portions!

Yelp
This place has multiple locations but this location was the only one open on Memorial Day so a friend and I stopped by for lunch! The parking lot is small but we managed to find parking right away. The restaurant was also almost full when we arrived but we were still seated immediately. To share, we got the Nem Nướng Summer Rolls set for 2 and an order of the Bánh Bèo. The Summer Rolls set is basically a DIY situation. They bring you rice paper, warm water to dip it in, a variety of veggies (lettuce, mint, cilantro, basil, shredded carrots, bean sprouts, cucumber), dipping sauce, and a platter of meat and fried shrimp rolls to build your own rolls. You can also order the tiny vermicelli noodles on the side, which we did. It's meant for 2 people but can definitely feed 3-4 because they give you so much of everything! I already love this place at their other locations so I wanted to leave a proper review for this one (:

Yelp
I love summer rolls!! Whenever I want a spring roll, I always think of this restaurant. The spring rolls have the crunch wonton wrapper with shrimp inside which adds an amazing texture. All the spring roll elements go very well together. The rice plate was also very tasty. I like how many different elements were on the meat plate. The char on the meat was done well! Overall, this place is a stable for whenever I am in the area. Parking might be a little difficult during specific times of the day, but it is overall doable.

Yelp
This is the original Summer Rolls locations and while the menu and ownership is the same as the newer location at Las Tunas and Rosemead, this location just has more of the OG vibes and fills up quickly around the lunch or dinner rushes. Lots of authentic food to choose from and they DO NOT have Pho here so don't come here for Pho. Check out my pics

Yelp
Called ahead for pickup the other day and my order was ready 5-10 minutes after arriving for pickup. Parking is available on the street. There is a tiny parking lot that seemed to be crammed with cars. Started off with the iced Vietnamese coffee which was ok. It was pretty strong and a large cup with plenty of ice. The lemongrass beef summer rolls were delicious! This was served with some fish sauce along with a side of siracha. Each of the rolls were filled with plenty of flavorful beef, a crispy shrimp wrapped in a wonton wrapper, along with plenty of greens. The staff that I interacted with were pleasant. ~$21/head for lunch. They take credit cards

Yelp
Always 5 star service Always 5 star taste in food My wife and I come very often either to go or dine in! This is even our perfect snack during the Dodger season, we bring these in and have their summer rolls for dinner. Just heavenly. This is a must try place! So many great dishes.

Yelp
First time trying summer rolls, it's next to an In-N-Out so parking might seem packed but they have their own parking lot somewhat separated from in n out. Upon entering the staff immediately seated us, the place is very clean and the mirror walls is very nostalgic. The server is friendly and very fast giving us the menu and drink order. We ordered Vietnamese coffee, Nem Nuong Cuon Voi Cha Ram Tom, Dac Biet Banh Beo Chan, and Banh Xeo. We also ordered dessert for later (Che Ba Mau). They also gave us a plate of veggies to accompany our food. The spring rolls were delicious, filled with plenty of vegetables and a shrimp egg roll to accompany the pork. I've never had Dac Biet Banh Beo Chan before, there's 12 bowls and they come out hot and steamy. Very delicious with fish sauce. The Banh Xeo was huge, crispy crunchy, and savory with the fish sauce poured over. Dessert was a great finishing touch, sweet and chewy! Restroom is individual use, women have their own and there's a unisex one.

Yelp
This place has been around for long time . This is the best place to get nem Nuong cuon . The rolls came with the special thick dipping sauce and the steamed rice came with the fish sauce. As you can see here, the Nem Nuong platter is not just Nem Nuong, it also has Cha Ram Tom, Cha Gio Tom; Nem Chua Nuong, a small fermented pork sausage seen on top; more pork wrapped in banana leaves. I really like their nem bò , they have a strong aroma of lemongrass. While it is perfectly fine to eat on its own, the magic of this dish is served with a plate of rice paper prepared to be dipped in water and wrapped around the meats and greens you choose from the mountain of herbs and lettuce that comes with it. It tastes amazing. While the decor here may not be as modern as their newer location in Temple City but i came here for long time I still like this place . The service was quick , efficient. They have a little parking lot on the side and the back of the building but still Hard to find parking during rush hour !

Yelp
i can always count on summer rolls to satisfy my spring roll cravings. and the sauce is perfectly warm and tasty (add a few scoops of chili sauce to make it extra yommy)
google avatar

Yelp
This place is so good!! i've heard lots of people rave about the rolls here and so glad i finally got to try it. i got the pork summer rolls and they were so flavorful. the pork is more like sausage and love how they put shrimp in it too. even though there's only four rolls, they fill you up and it's more than enough for a meal. i also really enjoyed the orange sauce that they give - it's like sweet and sour but still a taste that you can't really get anywhere else. the rolls are around $15 and they are so worth. def one of my favorite places in sgv.

Yelp
Summer Rolls by Rosemead High School and the Busy In and Out. What an El Monte Icon! They were closed for a month for their annual trip. The Number Five is the most popular summer roll and it tastes delicious with the Spicy Red Sauce. Extremely pleased with the quality of the food.
google avatar

Yelp
Summer Rolls has been a staple for my family for as long as I can remember, and I still love visiting to this day. I am a creature of habit so I typically order their nem nuong (pork) rolls, which consists of fresh ingredients and always hits the spot because it is not too heavy. If you're in the mood for something other than spring rolls, you really can't go wrong with anything on their menu. They also take catering orders for their spring rolls so that is a great option for parties/family gatherings! All in all, I can't recommend Summer Rolls enough!! There's a reason they keep opening additional locations- their food is that good :)
google avatar

Yelp
Oh how I would be a regular here if I lived in LA.. Viet food in Houston is good but doesn't hold a candle to Summer Rolls rice plates. I ordered #15, the charbroiled lemongrass beef with bean curd wrapped shrimp cake and shredded pork skin and for roughly $16, it was a Texas sized serving that lasted me two meals. The beef was deliciously charred, the rice was soft and fluffy, and the shrimp cake was bouncy and savory. I wrapped the beef with some cucumber and pickled carrot in the lettuce and dipped it in the fish sauce and it was a home run. I wasn't the biggest fan of the pork skin because of the grainy texture, but there was so much other food on the plate to enjoy. The service was very nice and Ivy made our visit so pleasant and memorable. Definitely give this place a try if for some reason you haven't yet! The next time I'm here, I promise to take a better picture of the food!
google avatar

Monica M.

Yelp
This was a DoorDash order that did not disappoint! I ordered the chicken spring rolls and they were excellent! The order was hefty - four rolls, total and came with all the fixings: garlic sriracha sauce and dipping sauce. For the flavor and savory-ness you didn't really didn't need the sauce - truly it was an enhancement! I'd definitely get this again - while I didn't finish my dish, I felt very satisfied and not overly stuffed!

Yelp
Dined in for lunch on 10/20/24. It was busy around 11:00 am, but luckily our group of 5 was seated quick. Parking is quite small and it is shared with Tae Kwon Do. If you are comfortable you can park on the street or in the church. We ordered Bun Bo Hue, Banh Beo, Spring Rolls, and Banh Mi with pork. The food was delicious! You cannot go wrong with Summer Rolls. I enjoyed everything here and would definitely come back!
google avatar

Joseph C.

Yelp
Been to their other location a few times, but this one feels more homey and laid-back. Staff was awesome--super friendly and funny, which made the visit even better. The summer rolls (both pork and beef) were super fresh, clearly made to order. I preferred the pork, but both were great picks. Also tried the beef plate, which was fire. The chili oil is a must, and the dipping sauce that comes with the meat works surprisingly well with the summer rolls too. Would definitely come back.
google avatar

Jessica G.

Yelp
Love love love summer rolls! I am so glad they opened back up for their indoor dining! I personally love this location just because I grew up eating here! Their summer rolls are a must! Even if you get your own entree. You must get it! I love both their pork and the sour pork! Bun Bo hue is always a solid here! The chili oil that you can add to is just perfect! I recently tried their banh xeo and it is the BEST I have had in a very long time! Super crispy, super filling and huge and also the crepe stays super crispy! Even eating it half way through, the bottom side of the banh xeo was still crispy! Bean sprouts come out undercooked but as it steams while you eat, it's perfect! Service is super friendly and restaurant is always clean and organized! I love that their staff is always keeping busy and helping out with prep!
google avatar

Zinnia V.

Yelp
If you like spring rolls and bun bo hue this place is for you!! My family always orders a bunch of the nem nuong rolls to bring home, the orange gooey sauce they pair it with is deliciously savory and warm. I tried their bun bo hue for the first time, and it was super flavorful, the meat was so tender. My mom got the Bun cha gio, I tried it and it was refreshing and hearty at the same time bc of that juicy meat! The banh beo was a little different than i remember, I didn't like it as much. The little crunchy bit that's comes on top wasn't a pork rind like places usually put on top, it was a croton, not so yummy and very oily. I'd skip it. Service is quick and friendly. They get packed pretty fast but it usually gets busy in waves. Very clean and updated for a OG spot.
google avatar

Betty V.

Yelp
I came here for lunch with my friend. We ordered bun bo hue, banh beo, and ngoi cuon. Everything tasted really good, especially the soup. I devoured it because it was so good. I highly recommend anyone coming here to try the bun bo hue. They make it the way my mom does (and she is hue). The service at every Vietnamese restaurant is the same. You order, they bring it to you, you eat, and you pay. If you want more water, you have to ask. Servers don't generally refill drinks unless you ask. This is very typical. I'm used to it, so I don't care. When I am in Rosemwead, I am definitely returning here to try other items.
google avatar

Helen Y.

Yelp
I came here to try their pork spring roll. I want to compare it to Brodards. It's a little different. It doesn't come with chive, smaller than Brodards. $14 for 4 rolls. The sauce is different and on a sweeter side. The wonton skin is more tasty, feels like it has shrimp flavor. The flavor reminds of those crunchy shrimp roll snacks which I love as a kid. However, it wasn't as crispy and was a bit stale. Overall, the taste is on the sweeter side, so I still prefer Brodards which is more savory.
google avatar

Anny O.

Yelp
Vermicelli 4/5 - this was good and tastes very fresh. Good amount of meat as well but I thought there could have been more noodles and lettuce. I also would prefer if they cooked the meat more and even slice it thinner and cook it. Parking is a bit hard to find here since the parking lot is small
google avatar

Emily L.

Yelp
The interior is pretty small and service was hard to come by, but the food was good and the price was decent for the portion provided.
google avatar

Erica F.

Yelp
I have been coming to this restaurant when I am craving for Vietnamese spring rolls. Parking lot is small, and it could be difficult to find a parking space during busy hours. I always order the meat platter. The platter came with 3 different kinds of meat. The platter will be served with a big plate of variety of vegetable, a plate of dry rice paper, a bowl of hot water, and orange dipping sauce. The way to eat this was soak the rice paper in the hot water, and put it on the plate. Wrap vegetable and meat with the rice paper. This is a fun and delicious activity to spend with family. Don't forget to dip the spring roll in the orange dipping sauce. The only reason I took away 1 star was because I came on a very hot date, and there was no air conditioning. It was very hot to eat inside the restaurant.
google avatar

Jennifer Z.

Yelp
If you are looking for authentic viet food summer rolls is the best! This location is the OG one -- disclaimer there is no pho here! This place is the best to try other authentic viet dishes and their bun bo hue is a must try. It so quite hot inside -- limited AC. There is a wait sometimes for dinner. Parking is available in a small lot to the left of summer rolls.
google avatar

Ty P.

Yelp
I know the owner he is a amazing guy..always good food and good vibes when i come i hope everything continues to thrive.
google avatar

Paula L.

Yelp
So fresh and so clean clean. These nem nuong rolls are pretty much the best in town... this place has been famous since it's been open. I go here to catch up with friends and family over a good meal.
google avatar

Vivian D.

Yelp
Placed an order of Pork Summer Rolls for to-go. Placed the order over the phone and the lady who took my order was quick to get my order down and the food in my hands. The summer rolls are my favorite Vietnamese food, and it definitely brings back a lot of memories. I remember I would request to dine at Summer Rolls for my birthday or any special celebration! The rolls itself always hits the spot for me and it can never be done wrong! The veggies are always super fresh! The pickled carrot/daikon adds a bit of acidic taste which balance out the sweetness from the pork! As for the restaurant, it was pretty empty for a Sunday afternoon, but I think it's because of the 2nd location they have open in TC. Personally, I think the Rosemead location on Mission is my favorite of the 2 locations. It's just nostalgic for me!
google avatar

Jimmy P.

Yelp
I've been getting the pork and shrimp summer rolls for almost three years now, and they're still my go-to. The flavor's fresh, the texture is great, and there's this light crunch that adds a nice touch. They always feel like a solid, satisfying choice, and most people I've shared them with really enjoy them too. The only downside is the price. Unfortunately, the spring rolls pricing has gone up over the last couple years. Four rolls for close to $15 is starting to feel a bit much, and while they're good, it's getting harder to say they're worth it every time, especially since their competitors are offering the same quantity and taste for $5-7
google avatar

Wesley Y.

Yelp
I've been to the Temple City location multiple times, but this was my first visit to the OG location. They offer the option to make your own summer rolls, but we opted for the classic pre-wrapped ones. SO BOMB! Make sure to get garlic and chili on the side. We also tried the banh xeo and banh mi, which were huge. Portions were generous, but service was a bit slow. It kind of felt like they ignored our table since we didn't speak Vietnamese, but the food made up for it. Overall vibes were cool nonetheless. Parking was a bit tricky as it was one-way and quite crowded. I'd come back to try the Banh Beo since it looked really good!
google avatar

Jess B.

Yelp
Really cute spot with an indoor and patio eating area. My lemongrass beef rice plate was delicious! And the portions were huge. The only downside was parking as it's located in a plaza filled with other restaurants/retail.
google avatar

Michelle C.

Yelp
Amazing service!! All the workers over there are extremely nice and very friendly!!! The foods are really delicious and yummy too!! The ambiance of the restaurant is very cool and cozy as well!!! I definitely will come back over there again in Rosemead, California when I get the chance to!!!! Five stars is exactly my total rating!!!!! Thank you guys so much for everything!!!!!! ^,^
google avatar

Julia H.

Yelp
Summer Rolls now accepts cards! Well, I believe they have for a while now. Hubby and I always get the Summer Rolls (#1 Nem Nuong) and Banh Beo when we come here because it's just so good! We'll also share either a rice dish or a vermicelli. On occasion, we may order a noodle soup dish like bun bo hue. Service is always pretty quick. Restrooms are fairly clean, and parking can fill up quickly and be difficult to get in/out during rush times and if the in-n-out next door is crowded. Otherwise, I recommend ordering to-go!
google avatar

Bea P.

Yelp
They aren't located here at the moment. They currently next to the In-N-Out on 4242 Rosemead Blvd. Rolls were good though
google avatar

Fiona C.

Yelp
yummy delicious and so underrated this place is my go to if you want something quick. their service is fast and food is delicious especially the pork summer rolls.

Roh J.

Yelp
They are currently closed due to Vermin and cockroaches. They make so much money, now have 3 stores, but can't keep their stores clean. Customer service is not so great. They never greet their customers. Just ring customers up and tell them what they owe. I wish I could not support this restaurant as they do not appreciate their customers. But right now, no one has good nem.
google avatar

Will L.

Yelp
This place still slaps. Even better spring rolls than Brodards (still excellent, but maybe a bit overrated these days). The vermicelli and rice dishes are also nice. Lemongrass beef was a bit dry though. However, the NEM NUONG rolls are a must have. They're really filling and made with the best ingredients. Parking lot is a bit of a struggle to get into.
google avatar

Kanta K.

Yelp
The banh beo is definitely one of the best! Each little dish is packed with flavor and the fish sauce adds a sweet yet salty element to it. The little crouton adds such a nice crunch and savoriness to the dish as well. Definitely recommend adding the chilis to the fish sauce! The summer rolls were packed with so much filling and a huge piece of pork. There's also some aromatics (I think lemongrass) in there which were a little overpowering for me but still super good. The portion for the broken rice was quite generous as each component complimented each other so well. The grilled pork had so much flavor but my favorite was the shrimp cake (sorry, not sure what the name is). Definitely recommend the banh beo and summer rolls if you're in the area!
google avatar

Zelne Z.

Yelp
Food and service was great. I've never been and it was delicious. Can't speak the language, but #5 and #28 were delicious. Clean inside, and outside seating
google avatar

Lina T.

Yelp
This is such a great lunch spot! I just came in for a quick snack, but I should've known better. I can't just order one thing from here, the menu is just TOO good haha. Highly recommend the nem cuon of course, but the banh beo is something more unique. It's not as common for viet places to have, so I appreciate the option. Their rice plates are delicious too. There are a couple of differences I've noticed from this Rosemead location compared to their Temple City location. This Rosemead location, the rice plate comes with this crispy bean curd wrapped shrimp item whereas Temple City has steamed egg. This Rosemead location has mint in their nem cuon that the Temple City location doesn't have. Both places are great and I would recommend them to anyone!
google avatar

Em N.

Yelp
My family and I ate here around a month ago. That night, we all had major stomach pains. I took 2 pills and ended up having the runs! I was on the toilet for 2 days! I knew something was up! I suspected their foods were unclean and/or left out/did not have proper holding temperatures. Totally not unexpected to see their restaurant get a C health score! They were packing food right in the center of the restaurant when I came. Stay away if you can. It's a shame because I want to support family-owned Vietnamese restaurants, especially ones that have been around for a long time but if they're neglectful and ignore health standards which are getting people sick, then I cannot support anymore. Stay away!!!
google avatar

Jaime T.

Yelp
Parking: Small, free lot. I went here on a Friday afternoon around 2 PM. It was pretty busy. I ordered the nem nuong spring roll and banh beo. They were both really good, but nothing out of the ordinary. If you're looking for a safe place to try these items, I recommend it. All in all, I would come back.
google avatar

Johnson J.

Yelp
Great place for great tasting Vietnamese food. The bun thit nuong and bun bo hue here is very good as well as other dishes we've had The service is good and friendly. The place is a pretty good size with lots of seating and well decorated. Depending on when you go, there may be a wait.
google avatar

Nancy T.

Yelp
I had always heard great things about Summer Rolls and knew it was popular, but was initially skeptical about Vietnamese restaurants in SGV. However, my experience turned out to be great here. The portions were more than generous so definitely come hungry or be prepared to share. Everything my group ordered was delicious but what was memorable to me was the banh beo. It was the best I have ever tasted! Service was top-notch and the owner generously provided with extra new condiments for our leftovers. I'm so glad I gave this restaurant a chance.
google avatar

Cho L.

Yelp
I have been here many times and I can't believe that I haven't written a review for this OG Summer Rolls location. Let's be honest, this is the better location in terms of food quality. I haven't found anything I don't like here. I usually order their Vermicelli with Beef, Shrimp cake, and egg rolls. But there are times they I just crave for their best selling Pork Summer Rolls with Egg rolls inside. The taste is so consistent and I can never get enough of it ! Service is quick and I never have issue with their servers. They fill up your water often. The place is decently clean. I feel comfortable eating inside.
google avatar

Kevin B.

Yelp
All good food for me. I did not get sick eating any of their foods. I love the egg rolls and Spring rolls here i had ordered. I also had a good Pho plate with shrimp and all. They are inexpensive with tasty items on the menu. WOuld love to come back again.
google avatar

Susan P.

Yelp
I have been here several times and each time I am more than happy with my food and service, the servers are attentive and friendly. You get your food quickly and fresh and the restaurant itself is clean, fresh, and modern. The food is tasty and there are plenty of items to choose from. I would recommend getting what the restaurant is named after :D
google avatar

Lance H.

Yelp
Although the food was good the service is horrible. It took 15 minutes to get our order taken and almost 25 to get the food and the restaurant was only half filled. When it was time to leave there were about 15 people in line to pay for pick up and for eating there. We decided to just leave cash with the waiter. It was my first time here with the recommendation from a friend. Definitely will not be back to this place.
