The Saddest Restaurant Closures to Know in Los Angeles, November 2025 | Eater LA

"Eater confirmed with owner Jayson Choi that the Sixth Street location shuttered in mid-November. The original Koreatown location debuted in 2013 and the brand expanded to Western near Wilshire Boulevards, Sawtelle, San Gabriel, and Rowland Heights; those locations remain open." - Mona Holmes

4 Restaurants to Try This Thanksgiving Weekend in Los Angeles: November 26 | Eater LA

"There’s a new Sun Nong Dan in Sawtelle , and the lines every evening are immense with waits lasting over an hour for something that one could easily get in Koreatown. But Westsiders know that waiting an hour is better than sitting in traffic. While Sun Nong Dan’s hulking stone bowls of galbi jjim are the main draw, those in the know prefer to go in the mornings when the restaurant has to be open for prep (Sun Nong Dan is open 24/7), and when four soup options are available for just $11.99 (or $12.99 to-go) from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Those who spend the weekend cooking will find soulful, beefy bowls of seolleongtang or my favorite — tta-roh gukbap — which is a profoundly dank bowl of dried cabbage with tender, simmered beef that tastes straight out of a grandmother’s kitchen. The dried cabbage exudes an almost vegetal spinach-like flavor that complements the spicy beef broth. It’s probably the best meal $12 can buy in Los Angeles, presented alongside with rice and unlimited banchan like any good Korean meal. Even if it’s not the morning special, this soup is fantastic counter-programming to typical Thanksgiving meals, and a fun place to go with family and friends when the turkey’s all gone." - Eater Staff

Sun Nong Dan Sawtelle - Review - Sawtelle - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"One of ourfavorite Koreatown restaurantsjust opened on the Westside. Sun Nong Dan has landed on  Sawtelle with a menu of Korean soups like sulungtang and galbitang, and of course, their famous cheese-covered galbijjim torched tableside. As with the other locations, this one has the makings of a great late-night spot—it’s open 24 hours and the dining room is huge, though they're still waiting on their beer and wine license." - Cathy Park

Got off the plane and headed straight to the new Sun Nong Dan location on Sawtelle. The staff said it only opened two days ago, and there were plenty of flower stands at the entrance to celebrate. ⌚️ Arrived on a weekday around 8 p.m. and waited about 10 minutes for a table. They offered free soda and candy while waiting, which was a nice touch. 🍴 The classic galbi jjim wasn’t as mind-blowing as I remembered — it’s always the “craving before eating” that’s the best part. The first couple of bites were great, but it got heavy quickly. The real standout was the lean, oil-free beef soup. Compared to another beef noodle place I had just the day before, the meat here stayed incredibly tender even after being cooked in the broth. And the portion size is very generous. We didn’t add extra meat — just the regular $17.99 bowl — and it still came packed. Every scoop was full of meat. 🅿️ Street parking exists but is tough to find. There’s valet out front for $5, which is honestly pretty reasonable. 👨 The staff were all super friendly, and the guy who helped us take a photo had perfect framing and composition.

So glad this opened up in the neighborhood. Really great spot with a nice large covered patio. Food service and Atmosphere are all excellent. Definitely come down here if you’re over on the side of the 405!

Yay for a solid new Korean soup spot on Sawtelle! The restaurant is beautifully renovated to give the vibes of Seoul/ktown. I love the open-air area with the vented roof, and today was a sunny day, it was open and ventilated! Staff were super friendly and service was on point. Only kink for the soft opening was the background kpop music being choppy, which is probably a connection issue. Banchan game was strong with different kinds of kimchi, all fresh and punchy. My group tried: - #2 Chadol Seolleongtang ($19.99) - #9 Oo Gu Ji Galbi Tang ($22.99) - #7 Galbi Tang ($22.99) - brown rice included The taste is similar to the other Sun Nong locations. They’re open 24 hrs and will have valet parking soon for $5/car per our server. Excited to be back soon!
