Got off the plane and headed straight to the new Sun Nong Dan location on Sawtelle. The staff said it only opened two days ago, and there were plenty of flower stands at the entrance to celebrate.
⌚️ Arrived on a weekday around 8 p.m. and waited about 10 minutes for a table. They offered free soda and candy while waiting, which was a nice touch.
🍴 The classic galbi jjim wasn’t as mind-blowing as I remembered — it’s always the “craving before eating” that’s the best part. The first couple of bites were great, but it got heavy quickly. The real standout was the lean, oil-free beef soup. Compared to another beef noodle place I had just the day before, the meat here stayed incredibly tender even after being cooked in the broth. And the portion size is very generous. We didn’t add extra meat — just the regular $17.99 bowl — and it still came packed. Every scoop was full of meat.
🅿️ Street parking exists but is tough to find. There’s valet out front for $5, which is honestly pretty reasonable.
👨 The staff were all super friendly, and the guy who helped us take a photo had perfect framing and composition.
