The Saddest Restaurant Closures to Know in Los Angeles, November 2025 | Eater LA

"Eater confirmed with owner Jayson Choi that the Sixth Street location shuttered in mid-November. The original Koreatown location debuted in 2013 and the brand expanded to Western near Wilshire Boulevards, Sawtelle, San Gabriel, and Rowland Heights; those locations remain open." - Mona Holmes

4 Restaurants to Try This Thanksgiving Weekend in Los Angeles: November 26 | Eater LA

"There’s a new Sun Nong Dan in Sawtelle , and the lines every evening are immense with waits lasting over an hour for something that one could easily get in Koreatown. But Westsiders know that waiting an hour is better than sitting in traffic. While Sun Nong Dan’s hulking stone bowls of galbi jjim are the main draw, those in the know prefer to go in the mornings when the restaurant has to be open for prep (Sun Nong Dan is open 24/7), and when four soup options are available for just $11.99 (or $12.99 to-go) from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Those who spend the weekend cooking will find soulful, beefy bowls of seolleongtang or my favorite — tta-roh gukbap — which is a profoundly dank bowl of dried cabbage with tender, simmered beef that tastes straight out of a grandmother’s kitchen. The dried cabbage exudes an almost vegetal spinach-like flavor that complements the spicy beef broth. It’s probably the best meal $12 can buy in Los Angeles, presented alongside with rice and unlimited banchan like any good Korean meal. Even if it’s not the morning special, this soup is fantastic counter-programming to typical Thanksgiving meals, and a fun place to go with family and friends when the turkey’s all gone." - Eater Staff

Sun Nong Dan Sawtelle - Review - Sawtelle - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"One of ourfavorite Koreatown restaurantsjust opened on the Westside. Sun Nong Dan has landed on  Sawtelle with a menu of Korean soups like sulungtang and galbitang, and of course, their famous cheese-covered galbijjim torched tableside. As with the other locations, this one has the makings of a great late-night spot—it’s open 24 hours and the dining room is huge, though they're still waiting on their beer and wine license." - Cathy Park

I heard this location had just opened, so I expected it to be a bit more relaxed, but it was already quite busy — which says a lot. There’s really no need to explain the quality or portion size of the food. Places that attract this many people usually have a good reason. What stood out the most was the service. The person who seemed to be the manager led the team with just a look, and the staff responded quickly and attentively. Everyone worked with great awareness and teamwork, which made the whole dining experience very enjoyable. Overall, it was a great place with good energy, good food and excellent service. I can see why so many people are coming here, and I would definitely visit again.

03/09/2026 I was in the area to meet some client so I went and look for something to eat real quick. I never been here before but I saw that it had good reviews. I ordered their famous beef soup, it came with brisket and ribs. Their kimchi were amazing as well.

Google
We had a wonderful experience here. The food was absolutely delicious, and the ambiance made the meal even more enjoyable. Our server, Ken, was amazing—so attentive and friendly, and he really took great care of our table. The rest of the staff was just as welcoming. We’ll definitely be back!

Google
The soup is fantastic. It truly hits the soul & is satisfying. Portions are great sized. Friendly service. SHOUT OUT TO our server MIKE THE MAN! :) excellent advice!

Google
We love Sun Nong Dan. My husband and I come here often in the morning, and our servers today, Ken and DK, were wonderful—so friendly, attentive, and they took care of us very quickly. They’re open 24 hours, which is amazing. We usually come here in the morning and highly recommend the early bird special ($11.99) for select menu items (before 10:30). The portions are generous—definitely enough to take some to go—and it’s such a great, healthy, and delicious way to start the day. The flavors are very authentic. The vibe here is fantastic. It honestly feels like you’re being transported completely out of LA. It’s also a great spot for late-night comfort food. There’s usually a bit of a line, so coming earlier in the morning is ideal when it’s quieter. Also a great option for takeout. We are here at least once a week and would highly recommend!

Google
One of if not the best Korean restaurants I been to. Food came out real fast and was very filling and tasted great! Service was amazing, Ken really did a great job in helping to serve us, helped with giving us recommendations, brought extra side dishes quickly, and was very nice & funny as well! Will definitely be back for more!

Google
Love this place! Been here 3 times already since they’ve opened in Sawtelle, and each time has not disappointed. Our server Ken was helpful and friendly!

Google
I'm 100% sold for the $11.99 breakfast. The portion was good enough for a comeback. And the best part, this place opens 24/7, so I can get here at anytime

Yelp
Great service! Especially from Mike and DK! They made us feel at home. Felt really taken care of. Their specialty is a must have. It even hits at 6am. Plus the barley tea was so refreshing. Definitely get the purple rice!

Yelp
Guys, it's 24 hr SunNongDan on Sawtelle. What more could you ask for? Just come. Finally, some more much needed Korean food on the West Side.

Yelp
Foods are delicious like 3 other locations which we visited earlier and service is excellent.

Yelp
as a bit of a homebody based in the west side, i am absolutely rejoicing over the fact that i no longer have to traverse a great distance for comforting beef bone broth sweetened with jujube in a stone pot!!! it is truly the perfect meal to enjoy on a cold, winter day. FOOD we were served hot barley tea, pickled vegetables, and rice cakes before our orders, which arrived to the table in 5 minutes! 01. item #7 galbi short rib ($22.99) this is my go-to broth because it is packed with soooo much flavor. i also appreciate the portions of beef short rib. i enjoyed it verrrrrry much with the glass noodles buried at the bottom of the stone pot and complimentary purple rice. 02. item #10 won gi ($24.99) for $2 more, you can include ox knee and ox tail in your short rib bone broth. however, keep in mind this version is served without any strong seasoning, so you are encouraged to add salt and pepper to to your liking! my partner was pretty satisfied with this selection. SETTING & SERVICE despite visiting during the weekend following its grand opening on sawtelle, sun nong dan was not too crowded. we arrived before 11 am and found street parking fairly easily. while we were offered the option to sit outdoors, we decided to sit indoors so that our broth wouldn't cool off too quickly. restrooms were accessible from the entrance. staff were quick, gracious, and friendly!

Yelp
4.5 I came here on recommendation from several friends. I ordered the #1 yang ji sulung tang and enjoyed drinking the soup on a cold afternoon! I like that you have the option of adding how much salt you want to flavor the broth. The banchans were delicious and I only wished we got more of the jelly fish (I think it was jelly fish). I didn't try to ask for more, but I'm sure they would give you more if you asked. The portions were generous and it's nice knowing that there is a place to go to late at night or early in the morning because they're open 24hrs!

Yelp
The famous Sun Nong Dan has come to the Westside and I could not be more excited. This is probably the first 24/7 spot on the Westside and I hope that this is a harbinger of what's to come. Like their other locations, Sun Nong Dan brings amazing authentic Korean food. The Galbitang and the Galjbijjim are my favorite and are must haves. The Galbijjim is enough to share with 3-4 people easily. Their ban chan are also solid, esp their chives. The Galbijjim is expensive but that's why I recommend bringing friends! The service is quick and the staff have been helpful. The place itself is clean and is actually bigger than I thought. I also like how the music isn't too loud unlike their Ktown location. Overall, I hope this place becomes a staple in the area and brings more great Korean food with it!

Yelp
These guys can't seize to amaze me. I've been to their Ktown location and was surprised to locate their newest location on Sawtelle. This spot is the Michael Jordan of soups. If your soul needs nourishment through the power of a phenomenal soup, this is where you go. The #12 is my standard order, which is beef brisket in a dry cabbage soup. They bring it to you boiling hot and each ingredient is super delicious, just don't burn your tongue off, take your time. I love the greens that are in the soup, they have so much flavor. The meat is perfectly cooked, as it's soaking in the broth and waiting for you to devour it. The meat melts in your mouth and is pretty lean, with small elements of fat. I dip each bite in their sauce and send it straight towards my taste buds. The broth is king too, as it covers so many flavor notes, through all these awesome ingredients being cooked together. The #12 is an absolute must-try. In addition to the soup, you're served the customary banchan, that consists of 5-6 different mini-plates of marinated goodies. The spot itself is pretty clean, with a modern design and large in size, with 20 plus tables to accommodate you and your friends at any hour of the day. Yes, they're 24/7. The customer service was great. The waiters were nice and very attentive. Will definitely come back again!

Yelp
I am SO excited that there is a Sun Nong Dan in the area!! My mom and I used to order the morning special and I can't believe that this location is doing it as well! It's a huge space so we haven't had to wait to get seated yet (been twice already since the opening) but every time that we've left, there was a line. I order my favorite, do ga ne tang, every time and it just hits the spot. I think because it's a new location, the portion is very hefty so I only end up finishing half. Staff is very friendly. I believe there is valet parking which is great for this part of Sawtelle since parking is so limited/restricted.

Kayla U.

Yelp
So excited to have Sun Nong Dan on the Westside now!! We're a bit limited in terms of great Korean without having to go all the way to Ktown so was stoked to have a favorite restaurant open a location in Sawtelle. Service is efficient, we ordered outside before going in to help with flow which I really appreciated that they prioritize everyone not having to wait. I always get the Galbi Jjim with rice cakes and cheese added. It is the perfect dish, huuuuge portions the medium can easily feed 2-3 people and we always take home leftovers. We get banchan too! Its spicy and warm and comforting and rich. Would recommend to anyone! So happy to have it over here! I need to try their other dishes but I love the galbi jjim soooo much!
google avatar

Yelp
Soooo yummy!! So glad they opened a location on the west side! Everything was delicious as always. They're always seems to be a line around here, but it moves very quickly. PRO TIP: When you arrive, go to the front desk to pick up a menu and when you're ready to order, you can tell them what you want. It is only then, when you are on the list and you wait for them to call your name. So be sure to review the menu and put in your order first! Street parking. Pretty loud/casual vibe.
google avatar

Aimee L.

Yelp
Came here for brunch! My friends and I ordered the Galbi-jim, and it was so delicious! Watching our waiter torch the dish was also so fun. Service was great as well, and our waiter Jun was really attentive :) I don't normally eat Galbi-jim much but I would come back to this location!
google avatar

Keylee L.

Yelp
Visited the brand new location for some much needed hot soup during the rain. My friends and I went around 10 pm and there was a 15 minute wait. You have to put in your order before you're sat. I would suggest looking at the menu before you get there. If you're with a group, I'd suggest the galbi jjim. They melt the cheese right on the table for you! It looks and smells amazing.

Yelp
We came here on a Wednesday at midnight, there wasn't any line like the K-town locations. So we got seated very quick, our server Mike is really attentive and also great service. I've been to Sun Nong Dan many times before across different locations, I've always wondered why they are not in Sawtelle (where you could find most of the great Asian restaurants on the Westside, the competition makes every restaurant to be good in order to survive there) . Glad that they chose to open a location in here, now there's another 24h restaurant that people can come especially on the weekends after partying. FOOD: We ordered a medium Galbi Jim with cheese (level 3 spicy)-- it's a Sun Nong Dan staple (must order if you're a first timer). Spice level 3 is not spicy to me I'd go for Spice level 4 (5 would cover the other seasoning it's overpowering). Galbi Jim (5/5- of course): The presentation is always Instagram-able, when they light up the cheese with the torch! Every flavour in it is nicely balanced, texture is also on point (the potato, the rice cake). This is honestly my top 3 Korean comfort food in LA. Comes with rice and appetisers (the kimchis are great!) AMBIENCE: We went here on a Wednesday midnight, the music wasn't too loud (not sure about weekend). Bathroom is pretty clean and neat, tables are clean too. Seating is comfortable and cozy. Overall, SND is something you *must* try at least once if you're in LA!! (I remember it was *transformational* the first time I had it, it never fails to impress). Come here with a group of friends after a night out on a weekend, it will never miss!

Yelp
First day open and I couldn't wait to try Sun Nong Dan -- my first time ever at one! And the best part? It's right across from my condo. Literally the best thing ever. I had my favorite galbi tang and tya guyi hae jang guk, and both were pure comfort in a bowl -- rich broth, perfectly seasoned, and packed with flavor. You can taste the care in every bite. The staff was so warm and welcoming even with the opening-day rush. I'm honestly so happy this chain opened here -- it's going to be my new go-to spot for those cozy, hearty Korean soup cravings. And right now it's BYOB as they are still waiting for their license. And it's 24/7 woohooo!!!!

Yelp
My family (4 adults & 2 kids) ate at Sun Nong Dan Sawtelle. We luckily were seated immediately during their early busy lunch time on a Saturday. Their menu is diverse. Their portions are huge. Their impressive presentation of torching the cheese topping on our large hot pot order was exciting. Their several side dishes are tasty, but flaming spicy hot!!! It was worth the burn on my tongue. Others thought the side dishes were mild!!! I drank lots of ice water. The facility is new & practical for families. The restroom is clean. Service was good. It's definitely worth a visit if you like great food. Expect to be adventurous & bring back leftovers. We will return. We had a fun time.
google avatar

Amber S.

Yelp
I've been planning to come here for weeks! So glad an SND opened on the westside, as I'd be driving to K-town to get my fix before. They are highly efficient at getting people in and out without feeling rushed. They took our orders outside so that when we were seated 20 minutes later, our food came immediately. I got the #10 but have tried several others before as well. The soup is on the light side but they have salt on the table, and you can ask for chili paste for soups that aren't spicy. I already have my eye on #8 for next time!
google avatar

Julie N.

Yelp
What a wonderful addition to the west side! I'm such a fan of SND and used to go often to the ones in ktown (usually after a night out). I'm so happy there is now one on the west side because I can get my Korean soup fix and not have to go through a long drive. My friends and I went here for lunch during the week and there was no wait - the restaurant itself is quite large with an indoor place and a fully covered "outdoor" place. My friends ordered the galbitang and I got the tta roh guk bap. The galbitang was super yummy, lots of meat, and all of it was really tender. The gukbap was also great, super flavorful and the portion was large too. I love the radish and kimchi at SND and can eat those with rice. Service was fast and friendly. Excited to go back again and really excited that it's open 24 hours!!
google avatar

Yelp
I was excited to see Sun Nong Dan open on Sawtelle. It is consistently packed already, even on weeknights. We came on a rainy weeknight and it was packed but there was no wait for two (only large groups had a long wait). Unfortunately if you're sitting in the covered patio space it is freezing cold. There was no door so super windy. Maybe the patio cover was just for the rain because water was dripping through in some parts. They wouldnt let us change tables to be less cold because they said the orders are assigned to tables. Since it was just the two of us and a cold day, we ordered soup. I'm taking a star off for the cold and windy seating and because the brisket in the soup we ordered was on the tough and chewy side. The galbitang was pretty good - light in flavor but a good portion of tender short rib.
google avatar

Nathaniel J B.

Yelp
Located little Jtown on the westside!!! Sawtelle has always been a secret hideaway but secret no more and with the addition of Sun Ning Dan definitely makes it so convenient to get awesom Korean soups stews and signature galbi jihm!! Unfortunately though with popularity comes super long lines and wait time so go hungry and patient!!! FYI parking can be very very tough with mostly only street parking or paid parking at Olympia center
google avatar

Chloe R.

Yelp
Super convenient location to UCLA campus vs. Ktown, lots of seating inside. Moses was a great server, very fast service. Ordered the galbi jjim as usual
google avatar

Bryan L.

Yelp
Thank you! The food and service was exceptional - everything was clean and fresh. They have great music playing which also helps mask conversations so no one is too loud for the time there . There was a guy there who didn't provide the best service to me. Very rude, presumptuous and dismissive. There was another guy who saved the day though. Any of the options will do , I recommend any of them and you won't be disappointed. The sides are a great combination of flavors and spices to add to the dish.
google avatar

Micah K.

Yelp
This place is tasty, sides, soup, and all..... and here's the best part it's 24 hours. Quality late night food at a reasonable price, I will be back.
google avatar

Sophia U.

Yelp
Came on a Saturday around 6 PM and it was already pretty packed. Parking is street or valet. You order at the front first and then they put your name on the waitlist. We got the large Koh Galbi Jjim with cheese. They do a little fire show with it, which was so fun(picture)! It easily fed five of us and we still had leftovers. The stew was super rich, the meat was really tender, and I especially loved it with the purple rice. Would come back for sure so I don't have to drive all the way to ktown! It's the perfect place to go with a group of friends ~
google avatar

Eugene F.

Yelp
Just had the $11.99 breakfast which is served from 6am-10:30am. Comes with one of four soup choices, banchan, rice, and tea. You cant beat the quality for that price. We will be regulars for breakfast now
google avatar

Andrea M.

Yelp
Thank goodness this place has opened on the west side. Reddit has been buzzing and for good reason. Sun Nong Dan has only been open a week, but the service and food are solid. The staff was incredibly friendly and fast! We were seated immediately, water and settings on the table within the first minute, and our order was in within five after asking for recommendations. We got the Yuk Gae Jung and medium Koh Galbi Jjim and it was more than enough for three people. The food hit the spot in terms of flavor and being comforting. Parking can be a doozy on Sawtelle with metered and residential spots. Otherwise, enjoy!
google avatar

Fiona W.

Yelp
SO EXCITED ABOUT THIS NEW LOCATION and its open 24 hours!! I went this past weekend and it was pretty busy but didn't wait long. You preorder your food then get seated. Food came out almost instantly after we were seated. Its a good system! Food was delicious and healing on a rainy day. The banchan is good and fresh as always!
google avatar

Susie K.

Yelp
I can't believe we're finally getting a non watered down version of Korean food on the westside! Yes, I know we have the various tofu houses and even Jin Cooks, but to be honest, I'm not a huge fan of those places and options are slightly limited at the soondubu restaurants. But with this hugely popular Ktown restaurant opening up a spot on the westside, I was happy and even more shocked finding out it's 24 hours. They have morning specials (circled in the photos) for I think around $12. I'm sorry, but I forget what the time cutoff is, it might be 10:30am. I think this place will become very busy very soon once it's more widely known they're officially open for business. We found a meter spot out front since we came so early, but I think I recall parking in this area isn't great so plan accordingly. Service was great and everything was super yummy. Looking forward to returning.

Yelp
Amazing food with rich flavors and generous. Huge thanks to Mike, David for the warm, attentive service that made the meal even better. Definitely a place I'd come back to and recommend to friends!

Paula Y.

Yelp
TLDR: GALBITANG is my favorite from this place! If you're looking for truly reliable, delicious Korean food in Sawtelle at any hour, this place is it. The fact that they're open 24 hours is already amazing, but what keeps me coming back is the consistent quality, even when I show up at 5 a.m. thanks to jet lag, the food is still fresh, comforting, and authentically Korean. As someone who grew up in Korea, I'm picky about Korean food, and this spot absolutely delivers. The flavors taste like home. The staff is always warm and welcoming, but Mike and Eric deserve a special shoutout. They're incredibly attentive, sweet, and genuinely make you feel taken care of every single visit. Highly recommend for late-night cravings, early-morning meals, or anytime you just want solid Korean comfort food with amazing service.

Yelp
went to sawtelle to eat and saw that sun nong dan was open! I had to come in seeing as there was no line, and we were able to sit immediately (party of 2). we chose to sit outside since it was pretty nice out and the seating area was bright and spacious! the workers greeted us and told us they had just opened at 6am today and they're open 24 hrs! we were very surprised to be one of the first customers and were so excited about this location which is closer than ktown! since it was just us 2, we ordered a soup each since the galbi jjim would've been too much, but I was very tempted to get it since it was so good when I had it at another location! the soups were perfect- had a LOT of meat and a good portion of noodles. it was super comforting on a fairly cold day like it was. the galbi tang broth was more flavorful since it had onions and mushrooms inside, but I liked the brisket meat in the chadol sulung tang more. I also liked that they give you a choice of white or purple rice! the side dishes (banchan) were fresh and the waiter let us know that we could ask for refills! we didn't need to since they gave so much at first, but I loved the great customer service! everyone working there was very attentive and nice. we also got complimentary Korean sweet rice cakes since it was their grand opening! overall, a great experience and I can't wait to go again (preferably with a larger group so we can order the galbi jjim)!

Yelp
Decided to visit Sun Nong Dan during LA's rainy days and a lot of other people were thinking the same as there was a crowd of people waiting outside. However it was under a tent and they had heaters! We had to place our order with the host first outside and then we waited for our table which was about 45 minutes. The process was a bit confusing. Once inside, it was clean and lively. We shared one of the soups which was full of collagen and different cuts of beef. More than enough food for 3 people. The radish banchan is my favorite! Valet is available for $5 cash

Yelp
Great service and banchan is delicious! The ox tail soup was nutritious and homey~ Location is super clean and morning seating was super quick.

J S.

Yelp
I'm SO excited that sun nong dan is now on the Westside! Great service, good banchan, great gukbap. Gone twice in the last week and will be back soon.
google avatar

George S.

Yelp
Good food, though a bit loud, we had to put ear protection on the baby. I measured it at 82 decibels. Kalbi soup was delicious, and oxtail soup was a bit bland, but the baby loved it. I just added salt and pepper after separating it into another bowl for the baby and it was fine! Staff was wonderful!

Yelp
Usually go to Rowland Heights location but now I can come here It's really new and nice and good service I tried #8 big galbi tang. It's really good for lunch and taste. It's good new so must try here. There have lots of menu to try. Will be back soon

Yelp
Must stop joint in west LA. Great after hour vibes. Food was delicious and sides was flavorful. Mike and DK was exceptional!
google avatar

Art T.

Yelp
We usually go to the one on Western near Wilshire in Koreatown and order the breakfast specials usually number 12 or 13. The food was just as good and even that one of the regular waiters that normally services the other restaurant was there. One of the shortcomings though is there is only street parking for the one on Sawtelle.
google avatar

Labib Y.

Yelp
10/10 service from Jayden! The Galbi Jjim was exquisite and I can't wait to come back with my friends :) The meat was nice and tender and especially delicious. I enjoyed my time here more than the K town location. Also, very modern and nice feel inside. Extremely clean.
google avatar

Kirstie T.

Yelp
Food was great, hit the spot. Perfect place to eat when you want meat early in the morning after a night shift.b Great hours of operation. Good quality food. Good service. Easy to find, street parking right in front.
google avatar

Megan I.

Yelp
Great food. Large, clean space. Great service. So happy they opened a location on the westside!!
google avatar

Matt T.

Yelp
Incredible -- the Galbi Jjim is enormous (a medium for two people would last several meals) and is so tasty. Will absolutely be coming back!
google avatar

Brian L.

Yelp
Sun Nong Dan is consistently the best galbijim around. Great flavor, texture, lots of meat, and cheese that must be weighed by the pound, not the ounce. Most importantly, they always have happy servers. Kudos to taking care of your wait staff! Today we had great service from Tom. But everyone was really helpful.
google avatar

Natalie K.

Yelp
Delicious food, comforting vibes, and great customer service from Jun! Standard banchans and hearty broths. We ordered one #1, two #12, and one #13. 10/10 would recommend!

Yummy food, great friendly service, cute location. I'm happy to have more Korean food here in west LA. Will be back again. !

Yelp
The galbi jjim here is the star, super tender, flavorful, and perfect for sharing. The portions are generous, the spice level hits just right, and the cheese add-on? Worth every bite. Service is fast even when they're busy, and the food comes out piping hot. If you're craving hearty, comforting Korean food, this spot is always a solid go-to.

Yelp
The service food and ambiance here is amazing. We came at 6:45pm on a Saturday and the whole restaurant was packed we ordered outside and were qquickly seated. Despite every table being full we got great service and the food came out super quick!

Yelp
We are so excited that Sun Nong Dan is now on the west side! We were on our way to ktown as we usually do to go to the OG one on 6th street and realized OMG! It said sawtelle! What the *#%^#*+}^ how did we not know??? We called just in case to make sure it wasn't a gps mistake...and to our surprise....they just opened not too long ago. WE LOVE SUN NONG DAN anyway...but now we love it even more that it is literally a hop skip and a jump away from us now. The bonus is...it is also 24/7! Yeassssss! Late night cravings? Yes please! The space is beautiful. The service is a well oiled machine just like their ktown locations and galbi jim with cheese and rice cakes always a must have. We teeter between medium spice level to spicy depending on our mood. Purple rice is our staple. We also almost always order #7 the galbi tang. It is a great comfort soup especially as we are going into the winter. Another great one is the chadol soo yook. If we order that and the galbi jim you definitely need more than 2 people to eat. We are usually a party of 6. This place is excellent! If you never ventured to ktown to try it...well now you don't have to. Ever since moving here from NY...this is one of our family's best things we ever ate!

Yelp
Outstanding food and service. We ordered the Galbi Jjim large and was perfect for 6 people (with two other smaller items). There was a like out the door but it moved relatively quick. Definitely coming back again!
