The 9 Best Rooftop Bars In Houston

"Want the perfect view of downtown, without having to actually go downtown? Try Sunset Lounge, a compact rooftop in EaDo. Alongside the picturesque skyline, a night spent at Sunset means having a frozen cucumber cocktail while dancing the night away and to DJs spinning the hottest tracks. Sunset fills up quickly in the evening, so come early to secure one of the cool LED light up chairs, unless you plan on being a dancing machine for most of the evening." - gianni greene, chelsea thomas

Sunset, EaDo’s New Rooftop Cocktail Bar, Opens in January - Eater Houston

"Sunset, a new rooftop drinking destination that boasts killer views of the Houston skyline, will officially make its debut this month. A post to the bar’s Instagram account indicates that it will open the doors at 2119 Dallas Street on January 17. As reported previously, Sunset is a project of second-generation bar owner Dominic Moreau, who employed the crowd-investing platform NextSeed to raise $150,000 to complete construction on the ritzy rooftop space. Drinkers will be able to spread out over 1,600 square feet of patio space, along with an indoor area that’s separated from the patio with a glass partition. The menu at Sunset will focus largely on martinis, wine, and locally brewed craft beers, along with a list of cocktails “inspired by sunsets around the world.” Mostly, though, expect Sunset to be a sophisticated spot for seeing and being seen. Oh, and taking in beautiful Texas sunsets." - Amy McCarthy

Sunset, A Rooftop Bar With Stunning Skyline Views, Will Open In EaDo - Eater Houston

"Sunset, a new rooftop lounge boasting “marvelous views” of the Houston skyline, is headed to EaDo. The project from second-generation bar owner Dominic Moreau will debut at 2119 Dallas Street. There’s both a 1,600 square foot patio and an indoor area separated by a glass partition, which allows for optimum outdoor viewing no matter where patrons are seated. In a statement, Moreau says that he fell in love with the third-floor space when he saw it and was compelled to open a bar there. The indoor area will be conducive to live music and game-watching on one of the many TVs planned for the bar. Sunset’s cocktail menu will focus on a variety of martinis, which happen to be Moreau’s favorite drink. Get ready for vibrantly colored cocktails — a press release states that the libations are “inspired by sunsets around the world.” Local craft beer will also be on offer. “I wanted to do something different in what’s quickly becoming Houston’s most up and coming neighborhood,” Moreau said in a statement. The space that Sunset will occupy is currently under construction, and Moreau is raising capital via the crowdfunding site NextSeed. Stay tuned for its projected opening date and hours of operation." - Alaena Hostetter

Google
So I’m a reviewer and I check out places and see how the vibe is with the feel is like like and the service at the establishments in general. I especially like to evaluate how the staff and the management treat diverse individuals and if they’re generally cool with folks who may not fall into their typical clientele. I was totally disappointed. I and my husband were checking out the area and decided to stop by at this so-called rooftop bar. I have no idea what was going on with The bartender but it was a Saturday evening and 6 pm. The place was empty as you’ll see in the video that I’ve posted. It was cute because somebody was setting up for being proposed tonight, so it would’ve been their special day, but as we were there to check it out, we decided to get a couple of drinks And the bartenders attitude was tuding! It was as if she’d rather not have us there but oh well the drinks were expensive and the alcohol was light and after $40 short we decided that this was not the place for us. Will not be coming back here again and do not recommend anybody to this place. They also don’t serve any food and right where they’re so-called rooftop deck is set up besides the little Houston skyline you get to see a big stinky dumpster.

Google
Charged a single person 20% gratuity for a not so great drink. And then when I get to the rooftop it’s covered so now the beautiful skyline view that you had is blocked and then the DJ booth is right in front of it so the only place you could maybe possibly see the view is blocked very disappointed .

Google
I went on the 4th and really enjoyed the music and atmosphere. The drinks were decent, but I was disappointed to be charged $3 more than the listed menu price for my drink. When I asked about it, I was told it was due to tax. However, in Harris County, sales tax is 8.25%, which wouldn’t raise a $12 drink to $15. If the menu had listed the drink at $15, that would be one thing—but I don’t appreciate being overcharged without explanation.

Google
Rose was super rude, she told us that a table was $250 and as soon as we got it she mentioned limit was not a problem anymore because people had left. When we tried to pay the tab, she force my guys to leave by telling her to her security people, and when try to to talk her she just didn’t respect my people. She was super rude and disrespectful that she didn’t even let us talk. Why would she come personally to say it’s ok, that there is no limit and then she would have security kick us out! If business doing that bad, she should come out with promotions for people to stay and spend money at the bar. She even tried to touch rudely one of my was and her security since he was wolf already by her was rude too. Don’t come here expecting to have a good service when the manager herself is rude and aggressive to people. My guy Rodney even had to tell her to not touch him since she had already disrespected him.

Google
It took us awhile to get a drink but the rooftop is absolutely worth it once you have your drink. The vibes were chill and people were chatting all over the rooftop! The saxophonist DJ was incredible and only added to the chill energy.

Google
Jazz was the best bartender ever!! She was so nice and bubbly, and the drinks were delicious. Highly recommend!

Google
Did not expect to find this bar at this location, a very welcome surprise! The bar was quiet when we came in, but the beats produced by the female DJ brought the place to life! A bit later more people started coming in, and I can only imagine how great this pace is with somewhat better weather conditions.

Google
I was here during the daytime on a Saturday, it wasn't crowded, I forget if there was food or not, but I don't believe so. There was a DJ spinning on the roof deck, which had cool views of downtown Houston. I went next door to a concert at the Secret Group, then tried to come back to Sunset at night, but I was denied entry for wearing leather sandals, oh well. FYI, they must have a dress code. They were friendly about it. The music was loud and bumping!

Yelp
Last stop, this bar is very cute. There's an elevator to the top. The drinks were delicious, strong. And the service was quick, the bartender was amazing. I didn't catch her name tho.
google avatar

Miriam Y.

Yelp
I was so disappointed with the customer service here that it kinda turned me off to linger and watch the sunset. The bartenders were not friendly at all. I felt like I was bothering them just ordering my drink. The crazy thing about it was that they were not that busy at all. Maybe it was an off day because the location has great potential and the DJ was amazing. Go and see for yourself or don't.

Yelp
Had previously gone once and loved the ambience. Unfortunately this second time around, my husband and I decided to get shots. We were charged $45 a shot. Definitely one of the most expensive shots I have ever purchased! & it was regular Don Julio, we had asked for the 70, which they stated they didn't have after we paid.

Yelp
My heart is broken. Charged me 20% gratuity without asking said that's what they do. Only noticed when I signed my card receipt. Drink wasn't impressive either. They covered the outside patio totally taking away from the roof top experience/view Like my heart hurts. I really liked this place.

Yelp
I first checked out Sunset during the beginning of the pandemi. Not a bad place to be with it mainly being a rooftop bar with great views of EaDo and the downtown skyline. Now, don't let my 3-star rating fool ya. I AM a fan of Sunset, but I do think they could improve in some areas. First, the inside often smells like a wet rag... or some sewage/plumbing issues. I'm sure that can be remedied with better airflow or a hotel-grade diffuser. Second, the cocktails aren't consistent. On my recent visit, the bartender made my aperol spritz in a rocks glass, to which I requested she transfer it into a wine glass (otherwise there wouldn't be much room for the prosecco and soda water). Other than that, everyone goes for the sunset views paired with whatever vibe the DJ is bringing.

Yelp
After watching the rooftop from Truck Yard next door, decided to go check out Sunset on a Saturday night. I have no idea what's on the first floor during the daytime, but all the action is on the top floor of the building and in particular the rooftop. They have a small lounge area inside too but not why people go there. Drink prices seem kind of high for that side of town - even a simple well drink was over $10 and most of the other drinks are what you'd find at a fancy craft cocktail bars so for an old building next to breweries and casual sports bars, it seemed out of place but I guess that's the price you pay for the rooftop dance floor and DJ. I like the vibe and the energy of the music but for my taste at least, it seemed a little too heavy on the Latin music with some hiphop mixed in. I know, I'm not the target demographic but the East End isn't monolithic group so from my point of view, mixing it up a little more would have been nice. The crowd is mostly good too but there was an incident with a guy breaking some stuff and getting kicked out and there was another guy who was pretty aggressive towards someone in our group who was initially kicked out but then let back in but the staff member explained to them and they seemed ok with it so I guess it's good that the staff actually explains things and doesn't just have a knee-jerk reaction? Would visit here again when the weather is cooler.

Yelp
Great spot with even better views! Brought some out of town friends during the holidays for a drink. It was the perfect spot to grab a drink, enjoy the houston skyline, listen to great music by the dj, do a little dancing, and people watch. Def stop by if you're in the area and looking for a fun place with a great view!

Qre D.

Yelp
This was a really dope spot the views from this place is amazing! the dj played music for everyone and I overall enjoyed myself. I don't think they have food but the drinks were on point! The bartenders were friendly too.
google avatar

Yelp
Sunset is always a hit or miss for me! Have been here with friends and the very first time we went the DJ wasn't super great. The second time we stayed inside and had a lot more fun just hanging out. Didn't try the food but the drinks were on the pricier side but!!! They were pretty loaded
google avatar

Shannon H.

Yelp
Got here right before sunset , got to see it over the Houston skyline! Which I loved! The dj and the staff member standing by the dj were playing some good music! The drink I got was delicious I can't remember what it was called but it was expensive like $18.50 only other complaint it was hot af up there they should invest in better fans

Yelp
Went to Sunset last Wednesday evening and it was...interesting. My friends and I walked in and it looked like a warlock/witchcraft convention was going on. Alas, I am not easily deterred. One of my pals was ready to turn it on around and get out of there but I just had to check out the rooftop terrace I had seen from below while we were walking along the street towards the place. Plus I figured, we're here let's just check it all out. Besides as a Yelp Elite, I've pretty much always got The review I'm gonna leave in the back of my mind. Gotta make sure I've got enough to comment on. Anyway, the terrace had great views of the city and the weather was nice so it felt great. The crowd however was very, again...interesting. There was a gentleman there wearing a full face mask, eyes covered and all, who was smoking a pipe filled with god knows what through his mask. In another area there was someone twirling batons/ribbons. Oh and just b4 you step outside there was a vendor selling "party favors" to patrons. Don't get me wrong, the people watching in this place was top tier. Oh and in another area on the terrace there was someone selling crystals and gems and things. Well, turns out every 3rd Wednesday of the month is Rave night. That explained a lot. The bouncers at the door advised us as we were leaving that Fri and Sat are "normal" nights. I would possibly try this place out on one of those nights if I'm in the area in the future but admittedly the online reviews of this place don't have me too excited to run back. It was hard to decide between 2 and 3 stars.

Yelp
Vibes are hiiiiiigh!!!!! Amazing DJing by Athenz live sax and drums! Beautiful sky line and new roof light

Yelp
My friends and I ended up at Sunset after a day of day drinking. Ironically, it was right before sunset when we arrived which made for beautiful views. This is a rooftop bar so you have the option of stairs or an elevator. We underestimated the stairs which were no easy feat, especially after the walking we did earlier. Coming in from the stairs or elevator, you walk right into the bar. It is not big by any means, but we never felt crowded. There was a couple of tables inside to set up shop, but we came for the patio and the views. Outside is a decent sized rooftop patio that gives spectacular views of south downtown as well as Truck Yard's cool patio and ferris wheel. They had a DJ spinning some good tunes which made it an even better all around vibe. There's plenty of seating and we were able to snag a nice couch area. I imagine it might be hard to snag a seat later in the evening. Omar was our bartender for the evening and he definitely has the gift of slinging drinks. It was supposed to be a one and done drink spot for us, but he was making our drinks so good, we made a night out of it. My first drink was the classic old fashioned. It was tasty, but I wish they had the proper ice for the drink. Later on, I told him to make his best rum drink, and he made his own concoction which was absolutely divine and also everyone's favorite. I tried little sips of my friends drinks here and there and everything was good. We are already planning a return visit because this place was pretty great!

Yelp
We were there Friday night and the DJ Low-Key-As-Me performed his beyond amazing set off 90's hip hop, fun rhythm hip hop and Latin music. After talking to him, he is so cool, nice and you can tell he loves what he does, he is there EVERY Friday! We will be back, I haven't wanted to dance that much in years! Such a blast.

Yelp
This was my second time coming to Sunset lounge and both times were because a friend was having something there. It doesn't look like much on the outside and you have to take an elevator upstairs to get to the lounge. The lounge itself is small...both inside and out and it will get crowded fast. The bartenders are busy but fast. The drinks are good but there is no food. The views are great but good luck finding parking...it is right near all the other bars and the stadium. So don't be like us and go when there is an Astros game lol. Would I go back? Sure...only if a friend was having something there. Rating? Above average...3 1/2 stars...nothing really stood out but it is a fun place.
google avatar

Yelp
Could've sworn I'd written a review for Sunset before but anyhoo... I really enjoy Sunset because just like the namesake, I love a beautiful sunset on a rooftop setting. Each time I've come here the Dj's have had a good mix of music and a chill vibe to the crowd. One day I came there was a group of older ladies there & they were ready to parrrtaaaaay baby. Had the whole place lit!! LOL Another random day I was solo on the roof & then 3 people came up. The one guy was filming a video for his new Latin style music video. The other 2 were the camera crew. We jokingly added me as the "sexy eyes, cocktail in hand" lady in the video. It was hilarious. Bartenders are cool. I can only think of one bad service experience but noticed over a month or so after the bartender was no longer there. Good drinks at nice prices for the area. If you're ready to just chill out and have fun with a crowed of all kinds, head over to Sunset. Yelp on my friends!

Noel B.

Yelp
I had the worst experience possible full of the rating behavior. I went to order a beer and knew from the just recent charge that it would be around $8-$9, no biggie. I handed the bartender, a lower 20s lighter toned woman, a $5 to go towards the total on 1/4-5/ 2025 and she turned around with the COMPLETE total saying it was $8-$9. I was a bit confused, so TWICE I asked hey are you sure? I just handed you a $5. She says "oh let me change machines", so I go with it thinking ok whatever ... after asking. Same price. At that point I'm furious, so I start to say a bit louder, this isn't right. Another bartender seems to notice and intervenes seemingly realizing what the other bartender had been doing (she had been listening the entire time, she knew). I finally get my beer for the right price and 2 bouncers came up to me to in the middle of the club trying to intimidate me with the same rip off bartender in front of them. The bodyguards asked if "I had a problem". I looked at them confused and said no. The rest of the time they took the bartender off shift and had the exact same bodyguards on me for the rest of the night while I was sitting. I noticed it very early on and sat to let my friends party because I thought, "ok maybe I might've been a little loud considering I was ordering a beer." Until the point where even my buddies felt they were getting thugged out because of prejudice. Out of 10: 1/10
google avatar

Adam H.

Yelp
Nice bar with a rooftop patio that over looks the skyline. What made it an unforgettable night was the DJ they had on set. He was ripping electronic music and doing solos live on his saxophone (see photo). I'd call in ahead to make sure he's playing before I come back. Overall the drinks were a bit more then the other bars. The atmosphere is nice and inviting!
google avatar

Summer B.

Yelp
Fun music. Nice view. Younger crowd on Saturday night that I went 20's. Good drink selection. Food truck on deck.
google avatar

Julianne T.

Yelp
If you need a new spot to hangout with friends come here!! I came for a girl friend's birthday and it was so much fun! I had never been here but it was really nice and definitely one of the more cleaner bars that I have been to. There is a parking lot right next to the building with an attendant managing parking and fees. I sadly got one of the last spots and she charged me $30?! Way too much!! My friends only paid $22. I get it was the last spot but omg way too overpriced. When I finally got into the bar there were like 3 flights of stairs and the bar is on the very top floor/the roof. Not too many people around 10-11pm but got more crowded after that. The rooftop has a really nice view of the skyline and of the bar next door lol they have a Ferris wheel! I would definitely come back again some time to hang out but definitely get there early so you can get cheaper parking!
google avatar

Meagan S.

Yelp
Had so much fun the rooftop is a vibe!!! Went Saturday night and we were shoulder to shoulder with everyone up there but had a blast. Good energy good music, everyone was so chill and dancing with you. It's definitely a free spirited energy, if you're like me and you can't dance and you're self conscious this is the place to dance like nobody's watching! Act a fool and have fun.
google avatar

Ashley Y.

Yelp
Love this lovely small rooftop bar by Eado! I stop by a Saturday afternoon and the weather is lovely, it was a bit crowd but I still enjoyed my visit. The bartender was a little slow since he made drinks by reading the receipt. I can tell it's a bit new so maybe everyone is still under training? Overall I like this place and would love to come back sometimes.
google avatar

Jon G.

Yelp
My service dog and I were aggressively made to leave immediately upon entry. Despite explaining the ADA rules to the security staff, he stepped closer when I tried to move away and even threatened to physically and forcibly remove both me and my service animal. I couldn't say if the service or view or drinks are any good, because all I got was a big pile of discrimination and threats. Hopefully management will read this and properly train (or fire) their staff so this doesn't happen again.
google avatar

Aleksandra M.

Yelp
Love Sunset! Really nice people working here! If you come on weekend you can enjoy DJ and a beautiful view! Delicious drinks! Definitely recommend to visit this place!
google avatar

Leslie T.

Yelp
This is a "lemon drop martini." Zero lemon juice. No sugar. I guess I should have known for the zero cocktails listed on the drink menu of a rooftop bar. Also, let's not talk about how they made a "French 75."
google avatar

Lili G.

Yelp
Stopped by to check it out. It's too small of a place, both Inside and patio/rooftop area. The lounge smelled like dirty dish towel water. The bartender was quick but he didn't know how to make drinks. They were way to strong to drink. I ordered a lemon drop and a Paloma that were so bad, I didn't drink a drop after my first sip. There was a person wearing a STAFF shirt that keep flirting with a group of girls and bringing them drinks, which is fine, but then he would leave the empty glass on our table instead of taking back to the bar. The music was pretty much would you would expect to hear so nothing special.
google avatar

Brianna C.

Yelp
I hate to automatically label somebody as racist, but I will say the level of service to certain people differs significantly. It was the middle of the day on a Sunday and barely anybody was in there. You'd think they'd want to at least keep customers there. The bartender was extremely rude. I asked for a frozen drink. It tasted like medicine, so I asked her for the other frozen drink flavor. Talk about attitude, Jesus . She made us feel extremely uncomfortable. We sat for our drink and immediately left. When we closed the tab the bartender didn't even say thank you for still a generous 20%. Music was lively. Beautiful view. Don't come.
google avatar

Oliver B.

Yelp
Great view from the rooftop is about the only good thing this establishment has going. During a pandemic no one wears masks indoors which made me not want to even drink. Entertained my friends for a few rounds and realized I had better drinks at home.
google avatar

Lips 1.

Yelp
Where do I start! I didn't know what to expect at first however, this place is a amazing! The staff were very friendly and the dj's kept the party jumping! I will definitely be back to turn up once again. Thank you for being professional and keeping the bar clean at all times we appreciate everyone.
google avatar

Karina N.

Yelp
Sunset should not have such poor reviews. We were here last night and had THE BEST time. The spot is gorgeous. Awesome location and truly the best sunset views! The DJ was awesome! She had us dancing and really just enjoying ourselves. My favorite person from this place is Omar! Props to him for taking care of us and keeping the drinks so proper! We were so indecisive on what we wanted. He made it a little special on his end for our group of ladies. Please tip him extra when you're there! We will most definitely be back. The vibe was super cool
google avatar

Scott W.

Yelp
Great rooftop bar, great dj, right in the middle of all the action. Drink are on the pricier side of things, but that's kinda of what you're paying for with that view.
google avatar

Yan C.

Yelp
Super chill Sunday funday!!! Good vibes good music & good views! Got to love the rooftop for sure. Very chill weather and super peaceful vibe.
google avatar

Madelyn D.

Yelp
This place is so fun! I went on a Sunday and it was still a party. The music was amazing, and it's the perfect size for a small dance floor.
google avatar

Yelp
Rooftop bars are my favorite! Sunset Houston opened recently located in Houston's EaDo (East Downtown) district. Offering great views of the Houston skyline. My wife and I went on a Saturday afternoon and really enjoyed. The weather was perfect! The staff was friendly and we could tell at lot of detail had gone into creating this new rooftop experience. We can already see this as being a favorite spot in the city. Located near George R Brown convention center, Astros & Dynamo stadiums, Warehouse Live. Making it a great place to grab a drink and walk to the surrounding events.

Abby P.

Yelp
Really fun place to get drinks, dance, and hang out! The service is great too. Definitely recommend.
google avatar

Tony C.

Yelp
Great Views, friendly and fun bartender, good cocktails. and good music Definitely a place to come back to.
google avatar

Brandon W.

Yelp
Sunset is a great bar that has a downtown view, good street tacos made fresh on the rooftop.
google avatar

Yelp
Nice scene ... drinks are too expensive and bartender was too uptight. Loosen up bar tending is also a sales job. Be knowledgeable and humble! Nice views!
google avatar

Mai N.

Yelp
PSA for Houstonians - this place doesn't even deserve a star. DO NOT come to Sunset you guys. Dominic Moreau (I'm assuming is the manager or owner) doesn't know how to approach his customers and is not professional whatsoever. It's been open for not that long, so he definitely needs to work on his people skills and not be judgemental. Not worth coming to at all, I had to leave ASAP. Spoke to my friends and I in the worst manner and did not treat us with welcoming respect. There are so many other bars with a rooftop view in Houston that you can go to. Save your dignity and check out other places like Z on 23.
google avatar

Chrissie D.

Yelp
I would come here again! There wasn't that much people when we came but that's because it was earlier on in the day. We were visiting from out of town and decided to have a drink at a nice rooftop, see a few views while unpacking our day and letting our hair down. Sunset did not disappoint. The DJ came around 6pm and was playing decent music.
google avatar

Larissa A.

Yelp
The view, the rooftop patio, and the DJ are absolutely perfect for hot summer nights. We went on a Wednesday and they also had food out in the patio. Our beers weren't as cold as we wished, hence 4 stars, but everything else was perfect! Definitely coming back
google avatar

Rouben B.

Yelp
Came here Sunday night. Place was slow. We were the only people at the bar. But the bar was wet and dirty. All the drinks menus were sticky. As were the tables where we sat after ordering the drinks. The staff clearly had zero interest in keeping up or doing their job. And the DJ was off beat often. Do not recommend
google avatar

Wayne H.

Yelp
I've been missing and looking for rooftop vibes in Houston , which isn't too common unlike some other states. The pictures does it more justice than what it looks in person. Definitely looks better at night . Very small, but LOVED the live Saxophone and drum player with the dj , adds to the vibe. The food was delicious and the bar tenders are friendly. Wouldn't rush to go back but I'll go again .
google avatar

Angela L.

Yelp
My fiancé and I came here on a Saturday night and it was a nice crowd, I met some locals and the drink was great! We'll definitely keep this place on our list. Free to get in and open til 2am.
google avatar

Taylor A.

Yelp
If I could leave zero stars for this place I would. First of all the owner is completely wasted or on god knows what other drugs every time we have been here. The staff and woman who seems to be the owners manager is completely incompetent with any task. getting a tab delivered to a table which took over an hour. They Lost several credit cards through the evening to numerous people in the group who still don't have their cards back. I have never seen worse service at a cool cocktail bar, someone needs to remove the owner and manager and rescue this place. There no customer service period at this establishment.
google avatar

Chef S.

Yelp
In the past hour I've heard "I like to move it move it", and "the thong song" by has been Sisqo. Who's DJing this 90's garbage? Oh I know, the guy who calls sex "wild thing" because of Tone Loc's hit roller skate jam. Trust me. If you call having sex "the wild thing" you're not doing the "wild thing". Hey I don't make up the rules. I'm surprised this DJ has yet played "Who Let The Dogs Out?" By Baha Men? I've heard better music at Ninfa's on Wednesday family night with Smiles the Clown's happy balloon hour. Generic and vanilla. Might as well be having sex with socks on and asking her 45 seconds later if you were gravy.

Yelp
The bartender... I think I heard Steven Joe... held it down behind the bar! All by himself! That man needs a FAT RAISE!!! Our bar tab receipt said our tip when to Sarah... but she wa sno where to be found! This man held the bar down by himself.. his pours were so efficient! Besides the bar the music was so on point! The tacos were so on point! Best Sunday night in a while! I will definitely be back... but I can't stress enough that that bartender needs a promotion and some fat tips!!

Yelp
Like the set up music. Houston temperatures are dangerous right now being on the rooftop with very little coverage is risky especially if people drink. More tarp covering would be nice. Thx

Yelp
I have yet to top this place. Every time I come here it's a good experience. DJ with a city view next to chairs that light up. Drinks are always good. I popped in on my birthday in July and they were doing steaks! I almost cried. But the steak was so good and the girl who I paid came to find me and there was a torch presentation! Yeah it's a small place but it's the little things. 10/10
