How To Eat, Drink, & See (A Lot Of) Rome In A Day - Rome - The Infatuation

"You’re going to need a snack after a morning spent gawking at paintings and sculptures that are as old as your great-great-great-great-great grandparents. Make your way to Supplizio, a small street food spot in Centro Storico. Pepper in some sightseeing on the way by exiting the gardens at Porta Pinciana and walking south—you’ll hit the Trevi Fountain in about 15 minutes. When you arrive, order from the counter inside and try to grab one of the sidewalk tables where you can sit with your snacks, a cold glass of wine, and the Elena Ferrante novel you bought specifically for this trip. As for what to order, we like the classico, cacio e pepe, and amatriciana suppli (a.k.a. perfect little fried balls of rice similar to arancini), plus the crocchetta affumicata and the polpette di melanzane." - tiffany yannetta

The 38 Essential Rome Restaurants

"Chef Arcangelo Dandini, known for his formal ristorante L’Arcangelo in Prati, opened this casual street food-inspired spot on the ground floor of a Renaissance building in central Rome in order to bring his fried specialties and signature finger foods to the masses. The name is inspired by suppli, Roman rice balls, which are served in assorted flavors alongside other fried classics, including crocchette di patate (potato croquettes), polpette di alici (anchovy “meatballs”), and, the most decadent of all, crema fritta (pastry cream)." - Katie Parla

Supplizio Review - Centro Storico - Rome - The Infatuation

"Supplizio is a small spot for traditional Roman street food in Centro Storico, close to the Pantheon, Piazza Navona, and Campo Di Fiori. There are a few tables inside, but when the weather’s nice, try to grab one of the sidewalk tables where you can sit with your snacks and a cold glass of wine. Plates are small, so order liberarlly: we like the classico, cacio e pepe, and amatriciana suppli (a.k.a. perfect little fried balls of rice similar to arancini), plus the crocchetta affumicata and the polpette di melanzane if you’re splitting it all between two people." - Tiffany Yannetta

Google
One of the things I miss the most from Italy! I visited this spot in Rome that specializes in supplì (fried rice balls) and absolutely loved it. The service was amazing, and the food even better. The supplì are perfectly crispy—like a light, dry panko crust—and filled with different sauces that are just incredible. We tried the classic and the cacio e pepe, and both were out of this world. A must-try if you’re in Rome!

I visited Supplizio during my trip to Rome and tried two vegetarian supplì and one fritti — and wow, every bite was delicious! The supplì were crispy on the outside and full of rich, flavorful filling inside — truly comforting and satisfying. The fritti was also perfectly done, not greasy, just golden and light. The place itself is small but super cozy, with a charming, rustic vibe. It’s clearly popular with locals and tourists alike — there was a long queue when I arrived, but it moved quickly and was totally worth the wait. Highly recommend if you want an authentic and tasty Roman street food experience!

Supplizio was one of those places that felt like a little hidden break in the middle of the city. We tried the panzerotto, which was hot, crisp, and full of flavor, and the polpette al pomodoro — soft, comforting, and perfect with the bread they give you. The supplì was everything you want in a Roman street snack — crunchy on the outside, cheesy and rich inside. I also really enjoyed the crema fritta — sweet, custardy, and just the right amount of indulgent to end the meal. It’s not a big place, more of a cozy corner where you grab something good, sit for a bit, and keep going. Perfect for a quick, satisfying taste of Roman street food.

Google
This place was suggested by Pasta Grammar. So, we needed to try. Oh boy, were we in for a treat. The Suplis are absolutely delicious, and they were fresh. It did not disappoint. Highly recommend the restaurant. It is also a little off the beaten path, so it wasn't overrun when we went. We have heard that there could be lines at times.

Google
We tried the supplies here and they are amazing! I definitely recommend you to try this place for a nice experience with this type of food. The price is decent, not cheap nor expensive. It’s a great snack!

Google
If you're a fan of supplì, or even if you've never tried them, a visit to Supplizio is an absolute must! Their supplì are simply outstanding. Each one is a perfect little package of crispy, golden-brown breadcrumbs encasing a warm, flavorful risotto and a gooey, melty heart of mozzarella. I was particularly impressed by the quality of the ingredients and the care taken in preparing each supplì. You can taste the freshness and the authentic Roman flavors. Whether you opt for the classic tomato and mozzarella or try one of their creative variations, you're in for a delightful treat. Supplizio has elevated the humble supplì into a true culinary experience. It's the perfect snack or a delicious start to any meal. Trust me, one bite and you'll understand why it's so highly recommended!

Google
Great suppli, they make a ton so you might not get the freshest but it will still be warm and tasty. Carbonara one was the best but second runner up is the caccio e pepe. Great on the go snack

Delicious arancini! My friend and I sat on the bench facing the restaurant window, on a sunny spring day, with a glass of white wine – couldn’t have asked for a better spot to enjoy our lunch. The service was also excellent. Grazie mille!

Yelp
Supplizio came at the recommendation of one of our good family friends as a highlight of the food scene in Roma. Since we had a relatively loose itinerary when it came to food (actually for everything), we thought it would be a good idea to grab lunch here after checking out the Vatican City. That being said, we made our way over after a morning of museum explorations. As suggested by the name, Supplizio specializes in suppli - a Roman street food consisting of fried balls of risotto paired with some combination of sauce and cheese. They're very similar to arancini, which are fried balls of rice that originated in Sicily. Walking in we were greeted by a small seating area with the ordering counter in the back. Since it was relatively quiet we decided to sit and eat - the decor was kind of eclectic with a mix of couches and chairs paired with dark woods. The star of the menu was suppli in a variety of flavors - five to be exact. We wanted to go all in, so we ordered one of each: classico (meat, tomato, mozz, parm), cacio e pepe, amatricana, pomodoro & mozz, and carbonara. The mozzarella in carrozza was speaking to us as well so we ordered that too. Even though we ordered at the counter, the food was served to us which I thought was a nice touch. The suppli were great - though they were fried, they were not too heavy and the variety of flavors were prominent without being overpowering; it was really good stuff. The mozzarella in carrozza exceeded by expectations - in the US this is usually a greasy dish prepared with white bread and served with marinara sauce. However, here at Supplizio it wasn't greasy at all - and prepared with Italian bread which was thicker and better able to withstand being deep-fried. The mozz was also delicious and honestly we didn't even need marinara - straight in. Service was good, the employees were friendly and we were served promptly. Overall, Supplizio was definitely a highlight of our Roma food explorations and I would recommend stopping here if you're in the area.

Yelp
Tried the suppli fried risotto balls. I got the carbonara and the amatriciana. Both were great and the server was very nice. Theres seating inside and outside and the space is small and cute and casual. They bring out the utensils and items you need if you plan to dine in.

Yelp
Delicious suppli (fried rice balls). They were crispy on the outside, and bursting with flavour on the inside. There were so many options available, that I didnt know what to choose. I ended up ordering the caccio e peppe, and a tomato suppli and they did not disappoint. You could taste the freshness! There is limited seating inside, so I ate at a near-by piazza. The service was quick, but I arrived right when it opened. I walked by a few hours later and there was a long line (but definitely worth it!).

Yelp
Delicious street food in Rome. I only wish this spot was closer to my hotel and then I could have had more than one day. I tried the 2 vegetarian options- Cacio & pepe & Pomodoro & mozzarella. I also had the eggplant dish. I ate this for dinner but it would also make a good snack in between meals. Very minimal seating so large parties will need to take to go.

Yelp
Suppli. Roman street food. Rice balls mixed with tomato sauce and spices, wrapped around mozzarella. You can find suppli in a variety of places in Rome. Some more famous than others. This tiny shop in an historic location uses historic recipes. Everything is cooked fresh when ordered and locally sourced. The outside is crispy. The rice soft. Sauce pleasantly spiced. The mozzarella melty and stringy. Not at all greasy. Let them sit for a few minutes after being served before eating so the mozzarella has time to melt. This is a quick between meal snack. Besides classic suppli they have a few other versions, a sweet custard dessert version and other items along with beer, wine and water.

Yelp
Supplizio is a really cute & interesting casual restaurant ! i really liked all the writing on the wall & thought it was rlly cool to see all of the people who visited from so many different countries. we tried one of each of the supplí and probably enjoyed the classico the most, honestly. I feel in general we preferred the ones that had tomato sauce inside of them because the flavor just stood out more. all were delicious though!

Yelp
On my last day in Rome, I really wanted to grab some of the famous Roman street food bites called Suppli. These were my favorite not so healthy snack when I lived in Rome back in 2010. I had seen several reviews and recommendations for a small place that specialized in these fried creations and thought I would try it. Supplizio is tucked into a small street and located on the corner. It is an extremely small shop so expect it to be packed due to the popularity. They have a small menu of suppli, croquettes and other lunch items but they are most famous for the fried balls of amazingness. The supplis are not small so make sure to order wisely because they are FILLING and you won't be able to finish them all. I decided to grab two of the most popular ones since it was mid day and I still had to eat dinner later that evening. I ordered the Carbonara and Amatriciana they were both really good. I would have to say I enjoyed the carbonara more because of the creamy consistency in the suppli. They were both perfectly fried and flavorful. I did think the Amatriciana fell a little flat as I was looking for a little more heat. It tasted more like a basic pomodoro but was still delicious nonetheless. If you're in Rome, definitely try this place out for a mid day snack between meals. It was good enough that I'd go back but I'm still looking for my 5 star suppli spot.

Yelp
Great Roman street food in a really tiny intimate space. Go for a snack and a glass of vino

Yelp
Saw this place on YouTube as a must try and wow were we amazed! My first time having a suppli and I had one of each, they were all great.

Yelp
These rice balls are perfect in every which way. They are such a great street snack if you are hungry but not quite ready for a meal. I went with the traditional and the classic. The classic has chicken, tomato and mozz and the traditional has meat and mushrooms. Both were perfectly fried on the outside and creamy and cheesy on the inside. At around 2 or 3 euros a pop they are a filling and cheap snack. I believe there are a few locations in Rome, so be sure to seek this out if you are there. You'll never regret a rice ball!

Yelp
Roman street food just minutes from where I stayed! Walked by this place and it looked cute, so we entered. The set up is meant to mirror a living room, so it is quite small. There were two parties already seated and one had a toddler moving about. You walk up to the counter and order. The staff gave us an English menu and recommended the daily special, which he called a "meat sandwich". We got the titular food item, Supplizio, Classico style. It is one large fried rice ball--and it was bomb! I thought I ordered the bread with buffalo cheese and anchovies, but looking back, the saltiness of the anchovies wasn't there. Nonetheless, it was cheesy and served with a slightly sweet jam. We also got the "meat sandwich" and the bread was fresh and the arugula was a nice contrast to the aioli. I liked this place for providing a quick bite, showcasing a Roman street-food staple. I am not a fan of the living room seating, but when in Rome!

Yelp
Simply put the best rice balls in the world. The flavors on the inside were perfect and the crunch and taste of the outside was even better!!! This NY Italian found a bit of heaven on earth in Rome!

Yelp
I found this place before heading to rome from many different peoples recommendations. It's in the cutest little area and the gentleman inside was very kind and helpful. We waited only 3 minutes for our food. The carbonara was my favorite. A must have while in Rome!
google avatar

Yelp
Supplizio is a great spot for a quick bit to eat. Crusty and crunchy on the outside and (depending on what filling) hot cheesy and delicious. I liked the mushroom one the best. They also had a wall where customers can sign their name or write a message. The staff was also super nice and friendly.
google avatar

Ken L.

Yelp
Awesome little spot with fried rice balls with different fillings. We ordered a whole bag of them to go and enjoyed a beer while waiting for our order. There is some limited seating if you want to eat-in but I presume most customers order takeaway. High quality ingredients! I would definitely make it a point to stop here for a very economical lunch or snack if you are in the area.

Yelp
I really don't understand the hype about this place. I really love arancinis so I was so excited to try Supplizio after seeing it on the Food Network. I sampled the classico, carbonara, and arrabbiata and thought they were all kind of dry. The carbonara was so bland I ditched it after one bite. The arrabbiata was the best of the three but wasn't worth going out of the way for. Three supplis and one glass of wine for two people came out to €19. It also seemed like a tourist trap. In the 30 mins that we were there, at least 3 tour groups came in.
google avatar

Cindy P.

Yelp
This place blew my mind!! If I could go back in time I would've bought enough supplis to fill up my suitcase and bring them back home. This place is incredible because not only does it have traditional supplis but it also has all these hybrid supplis. I say that because the owners are clearly some culinary masterminds who are constantly coming up with all new types of supplis to send your taste buds into overdrive. I'm talking major food orgasm!!! So if you're in the area (and even if your not) make your way over here to try the best supplis ever!!!
google avatar

Maggi R.

Yelp
Katie Parla highlighted this shop on a TV program called "Off Menu." So, we thought we should try Supplizio. You know they have every kind of fast food all over the world from pizza to pasta; so, why not a rice ball fast food place. What exactly are suppli's? They are just simply a deep fried rice ball that you can order in various flavors. One rice ball will cost you € 3. The shop is tiny. They have a sofa and two armchairs with small tables and benches. There are two counters with bar stools. We ordered one Suppli Carbonara and Una Specie di Carbonara (€ 6) - 5 small rice balls. Both orders were Carbonara, so they were filled with egg, pecorino, bacon, and mozzarella. We were able to finally sit on the sofa - the counter and bar stools were not comfortable for us. We felt the rice balls were good; however, a little heavy on the salt.
google avatar

Marcia G.

Yelp
We went here after a tour guide said they had good rice balls and read a review that these were the best in Rome. Calling Long Island, New York, home, I can say that these were the best I've ever had. (The Classic was our favorite - we tried three.) If you like rice balls and a warm and friendly atmosphere, go here. It is absolutely perfect.

Yelp
OMG. you can't get better suppli (deep fried rice balls) in Rome. About 10 different varieties including carbonara and matriciana. Get a glass of wine and sit in the comfy couches and escape the tourists. Great ambience and convenient location.
google avatar

Jon L.

Yelp
Suppli's are the foundation of Roman street food. In the historical center there are less pizza al taglio (slice) joints that sell suppli's. This place does it right!
google avatar

nicole c.

Yelp
Pretty good, cheap, quick place to grab a bite. I got the oxtail, which was quite good. The suppli was crispy and tasted fairly fresh. The restaurant was nice. Would definitely come here again.
google avatar

Zachary A.

Yelp
Quick service and huge portions. Perfect suppli and multiple options from classic to cacio e pepe. Small venue and very hot inside, but it gives it a very localfeel and more at home feel. Owner is super nice and great to his customers. We had the traditional and the cacio e pepe. 2 could feed anyone for lunch with how large they were. Prices are cheap and filling portion size. Supplizio is as good as advertised and worth venturing out of the way and even waiting in line if necessary to try this fantastic street food.
google avatar

Louise D.

Yelp
Delicious! Loved these warm rice balls! We tried a few flavors, but definitely get the chicken gizzards option. It's great! Friendly service, but expect a crowd. We got ours takeaway so we could enjoy them outside and keep walking. I look forward to going back.
google avatar

Yelp
3 Euro a piece for the best suppli in the city, and we tried a lot. My husband and I went out of our way multiple times to stop in to this cozy shop with leather sofas for a beer and suppli snack- I recommend the traditional with mushroom. The crema fritta for dessert was phenomenal, as well.
google avatar

Andrew B.

Yelp
Excellent. Gotta get the cacio e pepe and a croquette. Owner was super nice and they have an English menu. Tiny place but people come in and out so quickly you'll probably land a seat if you just wait a second.
google avatar

Andy Q.

Yelp
Hey. We loved this place. A simple glass of prosecco, another of red wine, three supplis, and some rice balls with anchovies. Perfect for a little snack and a drink in a cosy atmosphere with nice servers.
google avatar

Ralph V.

Yelp
I was not familiar with suppli before we stumbled on this bar by accident. The locals in front of the shop said it was the best they'd ever had. So we gave it a shot. As I understand it Suppli is a little fried snack of rice with added ingredients, such as tomato, mozzarella, mushrooms etc. They were really good. The chefs were nice and helpful and we chose the three basic Suppli: Classic, traditional and the vegetarian. The last one was definitely the best. Both the locals and the chef favoured the smoked potato suppli, but I didn't nearly like that one as much as the mozerella basil variety (vegetarania) Also try the beer. It's the best Italian beer I've had.

Ninja C.

Yelp
A fond favorite meal in Rome. Perfectly executed fried risotto balls with meat, tomato, and cheese with a nice wine to accompany. Very welcoming staff and owner who were very friendly with guests and did a great job of creating a relaxed and almost family dining room atmosphere. They made a mistake in our order, but before we'd realized it, they'd given us two more to make up for it. Don't skip the dessert suppli. Tasty meal from start to finish. Bravo!

Navid S.

Yelp
So filling, not expensive, but incredibly delicious. The ingredients are legit. NYC like decor, awesome Roman owner.

Shane M.

Yelp
Super dense and heavy but filled with flavour.
