Sur is always great, but especially on Fridays - Review - Miami - The Infatuation
"Sur isn’t open on weekends, which is something you don’t see very often in the Miami restaurant world. But the Little Haiti spot proves you don’t have to save a chill lunch outing for a Saturday. Instead, come here at noon on a Tuesday, order a milanesa sandwich, and forget about your company’s north stars for an hour. Their 11am to 5pm window during the week, while tight, doesn’t stop the place from filling up with loyal customers. Part of it has to do with their empanadas, but a large part is the lovable family that runs the place.

After a third visit, one of the owners will probably start to recognize your face and ask if you want that squash empanada again (to that, you say yes). It’s no wonder the place has a consistent flow of regulars coming to get their milanesa fix, or dedicating their Friday nights (the only day they stay open past 5pm), to a long wine and empanada hang.
Every other Friday at around 7pm, Sur’s back patio turns into a neighborhood pizza and empanada party. A DJ spins vinyl inside a non-functional airstream, and strangers and regulars gather at a long communal table—think The Last Supper, only way better because cold beer and steaming empanadas are involved. Fridays are also the only day they make Argentine square pizzas, which can sell out as quickly as 2pm. If that happens, get their magnificent tortilla española that’s also a Friday special and a compelling reason to have eggs after 10am.
Food Rundown
Squash Empanada
You shouldn’t come here for just one empanada. You should get an entire spread and play empanada roulette. The cheesy squash flavor of this one is a perfect sweet and salty combination.

Tortilla
This Spanish omelette is only available on Fridays. It’s topped with a thick layer of tangy sundried tomato pesto and a side of crusty bread to make mini egg toasts with. Our only critique is that it’s gone in a matter of minutes because it’s small. Maybe order two.

Steak Milanesa
There’s no way to eat this without looking primal. Embrace it, and enjoy the messy, crispy milanesa in all its glory.

Pizza
On Fridays (and only on Fridays), Sur has a counter full of thick, square slices with crispy crust and delicious Argentinian-style toppings. We have loved every slice we’ve eaten, like one topped with hard-boiled eggs and olives. Their version of a fugazza, which is covered in onions and mozzarella, is also excellent.
