Nestled in a humble spot in Koreatown, Surawon Tofu House serves up comforting soondubu adorned with house-made organic tofu that elevates traditional Korean flavors, plus generous sides of banchan and sizzling BBQ.
"Sometimes you bite into something so loaded with antioxidants that your organs send you a thank-you note (this comes by way of feeling great). Surawon’s soondubu has that effect. This Korean spot in Ktown makes all of its tofu from organic, non-GMO soybeans, and the special black tofu tastes noticeably fresh—well worth its $1 upgrade fee. The next time you have a cold, come for tofu-packed, spicy seafood stew and expect to hear from your pleased organs." - sylvio martins, brant cox
"Surawon is a soondubu specialist in Los Angeles known for its variety of tofu stew options." - Rebecca Roland
"Koreatown loves soondubu, the silken tofu stew popularized at places like BCD and Beverly Soontofu. But Surawon Tofu House makes its tofu on the premises, resulting in a rich, almost nutty tofu with a lot more complexity. The combo deals here are fantastic, including one with a fried mackerel big enough to feed two." - Matthew Kang
"Known for its Korean cuisine, favored by Rebecca Roland." - Eater Staff
"There are lots of places to get spicy, bubbling cauldrons of soondubu in Koreatown, but Surawon is the best of them, especially since Beverly Soon Tofu is no more. They make all of their organic tofu in-house, and for $1 more, you can upgrade to black soybean tofu which is a little nutty and super savory. Come by with someone you love on a cold night, order some soju and a couple of soondubu combos, and be sure to include a seafood kimchi pancake (here, they’re loaded with veggies and squid)." - brant cox, nikko duren, sylvio martins
