Where To Eat In Gowanus

"Maybe while scanning WebMD to find out whether you have a cold or the bubonic plague, you also read an article about the benefits of omega-3s. Or perhaps you’re craving raw fish but don’t want to get delivery sushi for the fourth time this week. Check out Surfish, a Peruvian spot on 3rd Avenue that serves around eight different types of ceviche. Our favorite is the mixed seafood one, which is a big portion of fish, shrimp, mussels, and octopus covered in citrus and red onion. Come for a low-key date, or eat a quick, solo dinner at the bar while doing more medical research on your phone." - bryan kim, carina finn koeppicus, willa moore

The 12 Best Peruvian Restaurants In NYC

"Almost every non-chicken spot on this guide has a killer ceviche on the menu, but we come to Surfish when we want to sample a whole bunch of ceviches with a group. This big, two-story Peruvian restaurant in Gowanus has lime green booths, with floor-to-ceiling windows that make it feel like you're halfway outside. Think of this place as the Brooklyn alternative to Mission Ceviche, and keep Surfish in your back pocket: cocktails and raw fish are an underrated way to celebrate a team win, or just hang out with friends. Surfish Bistro Review - Gowanus - New York - The Infatuation

"Peru could base its entire tourism industry around ceviche, and we’d be boarding the next flight. Surfish seems to agree, because they serve huge portions of fresh, postcard-worthy ceviche, with silky yellow leche de tigre, big kernels of choclo, and flowers. They also have a full menu with good renditions of lomo saltado, pollo a la brasa, and other bigger entrees, but we see this place as a cevicheria first. The big, two-story space in Gowanus stays bright with floor-to-ceiling windows in the front, and lime green booths inside. Keep Surfish in your back pocket for group hangs with friends or co-workers, when the team wants to celebrate a win with cocktails and a bunch of raw fish." - Neha Talreja

Google
Truly delish appetizers, entrees and sangria! I popped into this modern building and restaurant for a quick bite. The little bucket of plantains, nachos and dips hit the spot. While the rest of the food took a little longer than I would have preferred, it was worth the wait. The presentation, and the flavors were exquisite. Our waitress was very kind and helpful. All around it was a great experience and definitely worth popping in again

Google
Absolutely incredible! Had the ceviche sampler which you can choose 3 different styles. I went with oyster, fatty tuna, yellow tail. All phenomenal. Then i got the black paella which was the best paella I've ever had in my life! Incredible food and service.

Google
The food was okay, but not impressive! My friend ate the ceviche and said it was excellent, but everything I tried was average. The chicken and sweet potatoes were dry and didn't resemble the photos at all. All the dishes come with sauce and they are way too salty. Lastly, the churros were disappointing. They weren’t cooked well and were oily. There was NO crispness at all, very disappointing.

I finally had the honor of meeting Chef Miguel Aguilar in person and expressing how delighted we are to experience his incredible cuisine. You don’t have to be an expert to recognize the excellence in every dish— from the presentation to the creativity and the quality of the ingredients, everything is impeccable. Kudos to the chef!

We stopped at this place in the middle of our road trip just because we needed a bathroom and it turned out the food was amazing. My grandma was able to navigate the restaurant even with her walker. Food was a little slow (even though the place was empty), but it was good enough that it was worth it. I got the Lomo Saltado and it really hit the spot; my family liked their meals too. The server with the red hair and piercings hooked us up. I will be returning if I’m ever in NY again.

Google
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Surfish Bistro, and I cannot recommend it highly enough! We ordered the octopus and the lomo saltado, and both dishes were made to perfection. The octopus was tender and full of flavor, grilled to just the right char, highlighting its natural taste while adding a delightful smokiness. It was served with a vibrant sauce that complemented the seafood beautifully. The lomo saltado was equally impressive, featuring perfectly cooked strips of beef sautéed with onions and tomatoes. The blend of spices was impeccable, creating a harmonious balance that truly elevated the dish. On top of the incredible food, the service at Surfish Bistro was outstanding. The staff was attentive and friendly, making us feel welcomed and valued throughout our meal. Overall, both dishes were bursting with flavor, and the excellent service made the experience even better. If you're looking for a dining experience that excites the palate, Surfish Bistro is a must-visit!

Delicious Peruvian cuisine delivered by Iron Chef level cook Miguel and his team. Chloe is a must try as it never disappoints. Also, everything here is freshly made from scratch. The restaurant also provides a second floor seating for larger parties. We have been coming here since Miguel opened this place few years ago. Cannot get enough of his delicious meals!

Google
Great Peruvian food with a nice outdoor setting. Big portions. Ceviche Tasting is great for sharing and try different flavors; also Jalea (fried fish, shrimps, calamari and octopus) is a very nice appetizer, great for sharing. This is a very nice place for drinks or to share a good meal with family/friends. Recommended! Next time I’ll have Ceviche Tasting and Corvina or Black Paella.

Yelp
Came here for dinner with friends and the food is great, tasty, and fresh. The portion might be a bit smaller compared to other Peruvian restaurants that i been to. We ordered: * Summer Nikkel Salad, it was alright * Ceviche Mixto, it was alright * Ribs, it was alright * Anticuchos, it was delicious. Worth ordering * Black Paella, it was delicious. Worth ordering * Asado, it was alright * Whole Chicken, it was tender and delicious The ambiance might be a bit dark and not able to see properly the food and the friends. Would be better if they make it more lit Overall, it was a good place to come for dinner. Perhaps will come here again in the future

Yelp
I've had dinner and lunch here over a dozen times and I have never had a bad experience! All the ceviches are fresh and delicious. I have tried them all! My favorite is the Pineapple tuna. The entrees and appetizers are served in shareable portions and are very reasonably priced. The Lomo Salteado is a must try. They even have desserts like flan and chocolate lava cake. The decor is eye catching and vibrant. The vibe is intimate but can accommodate large groups as well as couples. The service is wonderful, the staff is very attentive and accommodating. I have always been greeted and welcomed as I walk through the door. The bar has lovely crafted cocktails, beer, wine and traditional Peruvian beverages. Pisco punch is my absolute fav. I haven't had Peruvian food this good since I visited Peru a few years ago! If you're ever in park slope/red hook/gowanus you should really check it out!

Yelp
We came here for a late Valentine's Day lunch. We had the following items along with some complimentary banana, corn chips and salsa. Ceviche Tasting - You can choose 3 different types of ceviche. We got the Hamachi Tiradito, Pineapple Tuna and Ceviche Mixto based on the waitress' recommendation. The ceviche was lowkey underwhelming and the seafood tasted bland. Black Paella - Just WOWWW! It came with an abundance of seafood and can easily feed 2-3 people. The taste was so unique and memorable. This dish is a must try when you visit. Entrana Tacu-Tacu - Skirt steak was very solid and flavorful. Chicha Pisco Sours - This drink was different from any drinks I've tried. I thought it was so interesting because it was made with purple corn. I had two glasses of this and the bartender had extra and even gave the extra to us. Although on the more expensive side, the portions were huge and flavorful (besides the ceviche). The staff was also very attentive and answered all our questions such as what is chicha. I would definitely come back for the incredible food!

Yelp
Food- DELICIOUS!! Service - OUTSTANDING!! I have nothing but good things to say about the experience. It was a family night out and everything from start to finish was good. We love the menu options and the unique but traditional take on Peruvian options. Oh and that pisco sour was on point! It was sucky rainy early dinner but that made for decent parking in this otherwise non existent area. I'm praying for a blessing of the parking Gods so I can run this place back!!

Yelp
Came here on a Friday night to catch up with a few friends and the place was rather packed. We were brought to the bar to wait for our seats, but luckily didn't have to wait too long and were seated within 10-15 minutes. We got the ceviche tasting, pulpo anticuchero, black paella, and a whole rotisserie chicken. Ceviche tasting (Ceviche Mixto, Hamachi Tartare, Pineapple Tuna) - I loved that they had the option to try multiple ceviches. The fish was fresh, but could've been better marinated. Some pieces had no flavor. Pulpo anticuchero - Octopus was nice and tender. Black paella - The paella had an ample amount of seafood, which is pretty rare. Rice was very flavorful. The portion is plenty enough to feed 2-3 people Whole rotisserie chicken - This dish was okay. Chicken was well seasoned, but did not like the sauce that it came with. It had an overwhelming mayo flavor. Would not order again. The interior felt pretty casual. There were multiple birthday celebrations during the time that we were there.

Yelp
Came here for my baby shower. Everything was delicious. We did the family style 50pp. Service was excellent. Before the event and during the event. Highly recommend this place for party or just for a nice meal.

Yelp
Surfing Bistro is always delicious. Never disappoints. Try the ribs and shrimp tacos. They are perfection.

Yelp
4.5 stars for me - overall a great place that does exactly what they promise to do well: ceviche. Came here on Saturday night with reservation (recommend) and we split all our dishes: 2 ceviches, grilled prawns, and a special of the night, hot stone skirt steak with a side of maduros. Next time I'd focus on ceviche and steak. Everything else tasty, I just thought those were outstanding. Service was attentive, and restaurant is cute - not overly fancy, we came for "comfortable date" and got that. Lots of 6-8 person groups, too, which is nice. My one nit was few swaps available for allergies -- waitress/manager nixed a lot of the menu, which was disappointing. That said, we ate and enjoyed -- we'll be back!

Yelp
We got the jaleita as an appetizer, it was fried shrimp, squid, and fish. Truly the star of the show. Everything tasted so fresh and the dipping sauce was perfectly paired. For entrees we got the corvina (sea bass, shrimp, and rice) and pollada (chicken breast and mashed potatoes). Both tasted great but the chicken could use a little extra seasoning. It relied heavily on the sauce for flavor. Food arrived out quickly but everything still tasted like it was cooked fresh. We made a reservation for 7pm, but there were open tables throughout the night so you might be able to walk in. We sat downstairs so I'm not sure how many tables there are upstairs but I think downstairs is great for couples or groups of no more than 4. Service was very kind and smooth as well. We'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Great atmosphere, friendly servers and big portions! Sharing is caring here. We split two tapas, an entree and a bottle of wine. Add to that the plantains for the table, which they kindly refilled for us, we had zero room for dessert. The pork tacos were hearty, and the octopus was fantastic -- I would definitely get the octopus again. Presentation was very nice. The pasta was pappardelle, a duck leg ragu with shitake, oysters and portobello and peas. Very good! Definitely something to split and would be amazing as comfort food on a cold day. I'd definitely return if I'm looking for dinner in the area again!

Yelp
My husband and I were looking for someplace new to try. Surfish Bistro did not disappoint. The food was delicious. The service was great and the ambiance was lovely. Definitely going back.

Yelp
One of my favorite places for authentic Peruvian food. Loveeee the chaufa, Jaleita. I order at least once a week. enjoy. This place is on my Top on the list. ( I've tried multiple places but unfortunately it didn't do the cut! ) MUST TRY THIS PLACE!!! Very friendly and kind staff.

Yelp
My kid was explaining to me that the rules of chess don't quite cover a moment when you're not allowed to move your king into check even though the piece that would be threatening that king would have to allow it's own king to be in check to take your king, and therefore wouldn't be allowed to move. I explained to my kid that this sounded like a recursive paradox, meaning that Gödel's Incompleteness Theorem applies to chess like it does to any other complex logical system. All the while we ate what I think might be the very best ceviche I've ever had.
google avatar

Bianka G.

Yelp
We were a group of 12 and everyone I mean everyone loved it! Everything we had was very tasty and fresh! We all started out with pisco sours and they were delicious. Another round worthy. We tried a variety of ceviche and the flavors were on point. The amount of acid and freshness of the fish. Yum. Then we had some yuca frita and the sauce was super good. I had the steak topped with a quail egg and tacu tacu on the side. So good! The meat was juicy and tender. All and all, would def return and if you find yourself in this part of Brooklyn, stop by!

Terry W.

Yelp
Been here a number of times, last time with ten people, most who never ate here. The consensus was positive. Service was professional and friendly and everyone completed their entrees-an accomplishment considering the size. We started with 2 ceviche cocktails, which was enough. The price, though not inexpensive, was average for a night out at a good restaurant in Brooklyn. Highly recommend, esp for large group.

Yelp
Perfect Paella. Fresh and unique. The service was excellent including attention to water glasses. It's not a bad atmosphere, very airy with high ceilings.Would love to see more colorful and vibrant furniture. It's definitely quiet for such a large space. Will come back regularly.
google avatar

Yelp
This is my new favorite seafood restaurant! Had the black paella, the 3 ceviche platter and the yucca frita. I loved the dishes, the yucca is ok but I prefer it in smaller chunks. Staff was friendly and attentive. Will be back!!
google avatar

AnnMarie N.

Yelp
I would return multiple times for the appetizer - oversized martini glass filled with ceviche and fried seafood - it was hands down amazing ( or hands up and with fork in hand eating like a maniac pure deliciousness) Entree was ok - nothing special to report - dinner partner enjoyed the refried beans mashed into the rice - wait staff and reception were ok- felt as tho we were intruding - ?? - always a weird feeling to be uncomfortable in a public place open to all!
google avatar

Anessa O.

Yelp
Been craving ceviche and just couldn't seem to be satisfied. My boyfriend found this place so we drove there for dinner after work . I ordered what I thought was going to be a small portion of ceviche , instead I received the most ginormous glass of ceviche. I wish I enjoyed it more . Everything in it was fried (not what Im used to) and the fish was cut incorrectly so it was way too chewy . He enjoyed his food however (it was very good I cant lie) and whatever he drank had him in a great mood . We will come back, just not for that specific ceviche . Go there ! Beware of that martini ceviche )its huge !
google avatar

Yelena C.

Yelp
Nice ambiance and good service. Chupe was hearty, creamy, flavorful. The yellowtail ceviche was excellent, the fish is just so perfect and fresh. The carnitas were so tender and had so much flavor. The grilled prawns were perfectly cooked and the sauce had a lot of depth and kind of mushroomy earthy flavor. The zapallitas were my favorite, unfortunately the zucchini was a bit overcooked but the sauce was amazing. I am excited to come back to try the meat dishes.

Yelp
I came here after some friends who live out of the city sent me some photos of the dishes they had when they came to Red Hook which is close by. Being from Peru I would hope they would be a great judge of the authenticity of the food. The Chef is Miguel Aguilar who competed on Knife Fight Season 3 who made it up to the final round so I was looking forward to the dinner. The restaurant is located Park Slope Brooklyn in a commercial and has a good space and nice atmosphere. It's cozy although it's not upscale. What I like most was the fact that currently while we are in the height of the Omnicron COVID surge the first thing the staff did was thoroughly check your vaccine card or app. I see so many restaurants not checking. Overall it was a very nice experience. The staff was welcoming, attentive and provided good insight into the menu. They have so many great choices from Ceviche, Tapas, soups, salads, entrees and desert. As starters we had the Quinoa Salad which has Organic quinoa, cucumbers, tomato, avocado, edamame, peruvian corn, crispy seaweed, and rocoto-yuzu vinaigrette. We also had the Zapallitos which is roasted zucchini filled with shrimp, crabmeat and goat cheese. These were two great dishes although I really loved the Quinoa salad. For entrees we had the salmon which was a generous portion surrounded by zucchini, huacatay coconut curry and the "show stopper" which was the special a 24 ounce Rib Eye Steak, accompanied by mash potatoes and an avocado salad. This dish is recommended for two so over half "went to go" LOL. All the food had flavor the exploded with every bite, I give credit to chef Miguel. For desert we had the homemade cookie with tres leches and vanilla ice cream. Really nice experience, good prices, plenty of space and parking is fairly easy in the area. The only negative for me is that there were several dishes I was interested in that could only be made by frying them. I would definitely go back and highly recommend them despite that fact.

Yelp
Another neighborhood favorite of mine. The service is good, the ambiance is good the food is great. I love the paella my only problem is that they don't burn the bottom like they are supposed to.
google avatar

Sarika K.

Yelp
Food: 10/10 Service: 10/10 Ambiance: Romantic, dark, lively Very friendly staff! The food blew everyone's mind off! The Corvina was especially delicious. And from the ceviche tasting (highly recommend) my favorite was the Pineapple Tuna.
google avatar

Hannah O.

Yelp
Loved the yellow fish and octopus ceviches! It was really fresh, well garnished, and flavorful. a bit pricey for the area. Nice outdoor seating!

Michael R.

Yelp
Good food and ambiance but terrible billing practice. When check arrived it stated "Qty 6" instead of 4 people in my party. That allowed management to automatically add substantial amount of money for so called "Service Charge". I didn't spot this fraudulent thing right away but picked it within the next couple of days. Unfortunately it was too late to contest an automatically added service charge. In NY it is illegal to add a service charge for a party of less than 6 guests. I will contact the Department of Consumer's Affair and Better Business Bureau regarding this issue.
google avatar

Clari B.

Yelp
Past visit hits: the chilacanos are so tasty, yum! The taquitos are scrumptious crispy treats. The ceviches are heaven and not overly citrusy like most places. The down side on my latest visit was our table wasn't prepped yet but we were told to sit. The cups were dirty but only one was exchanged. Then the water that was poured into one of the cups had food in it (looked like lettuce ). We did not hydrate the entire time. That was the only downside. The crispy oyster appetizer was so freaking good but the price could have allowed for four instead of three. The anticuchos were delicious but sadly the restaurant was cold where we were sitting (near a broken patched up window) and the plate got cold. Took that treat home and ate it as a gyro The chupe was tasty but the menu did not list rice being in it and I'm not a fan of asopao (rice in soup) yet it was a creamy chowder which I enjoyed. It could also use only those tender prawns and no baby shrimp. The churros were very cakey but I'm not a churro fan so my partner says they were delicious. I thought it was a bit boring and overly sweet. Lastly there is a mezcal cocktail that was a great end to our dining experience. Overall I really like this place and I hope it stays for many years to come:)

Yelp
Wow wow wow, what a gem. Surfish was just an incredible meal. The food is so flavorful, fresh, and well presented for the price point. The actual restuarant shows some wear and tear but the food is immaculate. I visited on a date on a Monday afternoon. It was pretty empty especially considering it has 2 floors and a rooptop. They play upbeat latin music. I started off with the pisco sour; very refreshing. Next I had the ceviche tasting (the reason I came) i loved 2 out of the 3. The hamachi tuna was the best. It was slightly tart and the aji sauce was realllllly good I ended up dipping the rest of my food in the leftover sauce. The pineapple tuna was also banging. The octopus I didnt love but it wasnt bad. They came with these gray chips idk what they were made out of but they were crunchy and delicious. I also tried pollada entree. It is a pretty sizable entree and like everything else here: f'n delicious. Our waiter was really nice and Peruvian so he gave us really good recommendations. I will definitely be coming back here to try everything on their menu.
google avatar

Nicky R.

Yelp
We decided to trying something different this time around for date night and i will say this place was beyond our expectation. Such flavorful food, tasty drinks and chill ambiance. Will definitely be back to try something else on the menu.

Joanna T.

Yelp
I took friends out to dinner. This is my 7th or 8th time to SURFISH. Delicious each time. The Tigre de Leche just the right citrus, roasted cauliflower just the right chew and Lomo Salgado just the right seasoning. And the cocktails quench your thirst...
google avatar

Jacqueline S.

Yelp
Surfish offers a very ambitious menu that didn't really excel on any dish we tried. That said the service was good and their patio and overall ambiance is a nice! The complimentary plantain chips were pretty good- some chips were a bit stale/soggy but it comes with a yummy green sauce My fiancé enjoyed his salmon entree and the portion was generous. The sauce was tasty and they veggie variety was nice but the salmon was a bit over cooked I had the tuna ceviche which has really nice presentation but the flavor was kind of lacking and the fish was fine but not that delicious for a place that has fish in its name. I ordered their Papa a la Huancaina which I wasn't a fan of. It wasn't hot when it arrived and the main event, the pool of cheesy sauce, reminded me of the squirt cheese that comes as a dip with your movie theater pretzel bites. Overall, there's a very nice atmosphere here but I wouldn't come back for the food alone.
google avatar

Marie S.

Yelp
Excellent food. Surfish portions are generous and filling. Chef Miguel Aguilar's training with celebrity chef Bobby Flay is clearly evident. This is sophisticated Peruvian cuisine. Each dish has thought behind it. The flavors blend & are multilayered. Years ago I met the chef at the Taste of Fifth at the Grand Prospect Hall. I still remember the wonderful rocoto Chile foam he created for the event. Tragically, Michael Halkias, the owner of Grand Prospect Hall, died from COVID-19 on May 6th 2020. Subsequently, his building was sold in July 2021 to Angelo Rigas; it was demolished in 2022. Local residents signed a petition in an effort to save the landmarked building but it was demolished to make way for a residential development. Surfish is still here. Happy to see great restaurants survived the pandemic. Hopefully my small contribution of many takeout orders has helped.
google avatar

Evan L.

Yelp
I usually go to places with something special on their menu - for Surfish, it's the black paella! I've been to this restaurant several times and that paella never fails. But the grilled octopus and pappardelle are killer entrees too. The Brussels sprouts wasn't bad either. The dessert portion is a bit small though, but not a deal breaker. Highly recommended spot!
google avatar

Gabriella N.

Yelp
The service was great (shout out to Jana if I spelled that correctly) and the food was tasty and very fresh. Jana was more than happy to give us a lot of time to peruse the menu and allowed us to ask as many questions as possible. The yucca, the steak with chimichurri sauce, and the sweet plantains were to die for. The food is delicious, the price is a little steep but that won't prevent me from returning. Lots of heated outdoor dining.
google avatar

Anothy P.

Yelp
This place could be a hit or miss. I have been there about four times and have mixed reviews about the service. We recently went because my wife was craving the soup and it was extremely bland. So we hardly even touched it and our server didn't even seem to care. The appetizers are always a hit are the ribs. I always suggest everyone get them when they go there and to get the mussels . The paella is a hit or miss. Sometimes it is bland or sometimes it's way too salty. Dessert here they don't tell you but it gets made to order for it takes about 20-25 mins. The Apple crisp do not get it was hard and lacked and flavor
google avatar

Kathy L.

Yelp
One of my favorite restaurants. Best ceviche in the city. Point to anything on the menu and you will be pleased My favorites are the ceviche (mixto, hamachi and crispy oyster). Love the shrimp tamale, ribs and corvina
google avatar

Gloria X.

Yelp
Ceviche sampler was delicious! Cauliflower was good. Lamb shank very good, although kind of salty and should have come with rice or bread.
google avatar

Steven L.

Yelp
Maybe one of the best Peruvian places I've been to. Not the usual pollo a la brasa but they have that too. Just not on the menu, I'm told. Service is great. The tapas are entree sized, which happily surprised me. And very good. The rib tapas was substantial and fork tender. No knife needed. The gratis plantain chips and salsa set as you sit down were very welcoming.
google avatar

Milly C.

Yelp
Everything from food drinks and service is great!! We loved the Ceviche mixto the most, it was just so flavorful and everything was well balanced nothing too overpowering. We had a mix of appetizers and everything was so delicious, we will return
google avatar

Kenny C.

Yelp
I'm going to be honest - I've been meaning to eat at Surfish for years now. I'm a big fan of Peruvian food but hadn't really had any since visiting the country a few years back. But Surfish made me regret waiting so long! We did have to do delivery, but that didn't hurt any of the dishes we ordered. It was just two of us, but we're gluttons, so keep that in mind. We got the ceviche mixto, black paella, and the whole rotisserie chicken. The ceviche was fresh and zesty. The whole chicken was roasted perfectly and juicy. But the star of the show was the black paella, loaded with seafood and sausage. A ton of squid ink, so you can definitely mix in more rice to extend the inevitable leftovers. Give them a shot!

Yelp
Came here on Sunday 10/11 for brunch because we were going to Harbor Freights (which is nearby). This was the first time my husband decided to dine inside (he normally does take outs + rarely even dine outdoor). They are also part of the Yelp Peruvian Restaurant Week 11/15-11/30 special. Come try them out as they are delish! We decided to do the Brunch special $19 [Weekend12pm - 3pm, brunch entree with either a glass of Sangria or Mimosa, plus endless coffee]. -Ordered- * CEVICHE TASTING $22 a sampler of any 3 ceviches: OSTRAS CEVICHE, SALMON ANTICUCHOS, PINEAPPLE TUNA * ENTRANA & EGGS (add additional $4) Argentinian skirt steak with fried eggs (over easy) in tomato-panca sauce * PORK BELLY two poached eggs served with huacatay-hollandaise sauce and toast We got mimosa and OJ. Service was very slow and it wasn't as busy (one other table sat a few minute before us) and then 2 other tables later on after we ordered. We only saw one staff doing everything. All service to all tables were about the same-- slow but that could be because of staff shortage in the kitchen and front. We rarely saw the staff in the dining room as she was with all tables and then disappeared into the kitchen. It was cold and there was flies flying around. Tables doesn't seem to be very clean so we were wary and swatting the flies away from our food and drinks. Of all the dishes, I think I enjoyed the ceviches the most. It was very delish and would love to come back for more of the ceviches.

Yelp
Delicious food and quiet ambiance. Portions were also large! Service was good too. Drinks rather expensive though.

Dave S.

Yelp
We have eaten at Surfish four or five times - two brunches and the rest dinners. Every time, the food has been great, the service friendly and efficient. I have had the ramen, the leg of lamb and the black paella. All very good, all big portions, and I'm a big eater. Nice lunch when reheated the next day. Great caipirinhas and margaritas. Our newest fave restaurant.

Yelp
Could easily get 5 stars but when a medium steak turns out to be over cooked that is going to affect any review. Being a Martini snob, I could easily take off another star but the host saved the day with her attentiveness. Read on. We were a party of 5 celebrating a B-day but we did not let the restaurant know that We started with the Ceviche de Pulpo and Ceviche Jaleita Martini (it's not a drink just served in a huge Martini glass). Both starters were fine. They also gave us chips with sauce. I would have preferred for them to give us two offers, one each for both ends of the table. That would have been a nice touch but whatever. Our main courses included, 3 Black Paella, 1 Entraña Tacu-Tacu and 1 Rib Eye Special. All of the dishes were well made and delicious save for the Rib eye special which I learned was over cooked. I suggested sending it back but the kid opted to roll with it. We had Churros and Chocolate Soufflé for dessert which were very good. Though, I wish the Chocolate dip for the Churros was thicker. Our host was very nice. She even went out of her way to get me the name of the hot sauce which I always ask for when I eat there . Our table had a few Cocktails. 1 Margarita and 2 Gin Martinis. I had both of the latter. The second Martini was well made with more Gin than the first one which was tad more on the vermouth than I would like. I will add that it would serve the business well if they had proper Martini Olive Picks. I was chagrined to find my Olives floating around in my drink on a toothpick (see photo). Which added to my utter horror at being told they only had Hendricks or Tanqueray Gin. Being a Bombay Sapphire lad, I had to bite the bullet and settle for Hendricks. Overall, a good experience and we were thankful that the place was not crowded. Our host was really attentive without the overkill and she enhanced the experience. I miss the Jazz sessions there.

Yelp
My favorite location was the 5th ave location, but it's closed. This one has nice decor, and very nice staff. Now to the food Papa la Huacaina - Tasty. Would recommend. Pulpo Anticuchero- expensive waste of money. It was rubbery AF. You could tell someone microwaved it. Upset I paid so much for it. Lomo saltado - The hubby liked it. Prefers his own though. Entrana Tacu-Tacu - It was decent. Loved the fry on the maduros. For dessert we had the fried churros and the alfajores. The churros could have been a little sweeter or had a caramel sauce. I enjoyed the alfajores.

Yelp
My first East Coast Latin American cuisine experience was memorable for certain, low key, no frills establishment which serves delicious plates. We did a ceviche tasting (5 stars) , limo saltado, (Skirt steak stir-fry with onions, tomatoes, aji and fried potatoes), pollda ( Roasted boneless half chicken with mashed potatoes and herbs) and the rib-eye special ($65) and of course churros for dessert. Although the rib-eye was a bit chewy for me, the overall experience was positive.

Yelp
Nice Peruvian restaurant with good food and drinks. Good space too for larger parties of 10+ people in the upstairs dining room.

Yelp
Was invited by the owner to come check out his spot on 3rd Ave. I brought my special lady to the spot for her 34th birthday We sat outdoors, lovely outdoor setup underneath the red umbrella's. The staff is very friendly with a great attitude for top customer service. We ordered the Zappallitos Tapa, roasted zucchini filled shrimp, crest meat, and goat cheese for appetizer. Krystal ordered tocas with shrimp and I ordered the tasty Sea-bass entree. For drinks we got Chicha Morada. The food was fantastic and I loved my Sea-bass! Recommend for couples, groups, and or families! For dessert we ordered flan and they sung happy birthday
