Best Omakase in Los Angeles so far! The owners were extremely friendly and accommodating to my last minute reservation. The food was amazing. I enjoyed every piece. The setting is quaint with only 6 total seats at the omakase bar. I would highly recommend Sushi MIYAGI to anyone looking for a high-end authentic omakase experience.

I have eaten at this restaurant several times, and I have never been disappointed. Chef and his wife are welcoming and very professional (even when other guests have had too much to drink). Chef Shin is a master of his craft, and it shows in each dish. Every single dish is unique, full of flavor, and presentable. The chef changes the menu all the time based on what ingredients are available. I always look forward to going back for a delicious meal and a wonderful experience.

My favorite in Los Angeles. Food is great. The couple that own and run this are great hosts. Place is small and intimate so you will be sitting next to other people but that has also been enjoyable for us. Cannot recommend this place highly enough!

Amazing service and amazing food. I was used to eating dragon rolls but Miyagi literally open my world around omakase and real sushi. Never going back to the places that offer rolls. Miya go is super private and the r best place to organize a 5/6 party omakese meal.

So, here's the scoop on my recent dining escapade this omakase. I dropped a grand for two premium omakase courses and a $150 bottle of sake. Sounds fancy, right? Well, hold onto your chopsticks. First off, let's talk sushi chef hygiene. Now, I get it, latex gloves are all about cleanliness, but call me old school--I prefer seeing bare hands at work. What really got me though, was seeing the chef handle his phone with those gloves on. It's a no-brainer--food prep and phones don't mix. He kept on going to his phone to show us the fish we were eating, I expect those to be written up and I want my raw fish to not have his phone germs. This was a major red flag from the beginning. Now, onto the language issue with the chef. Look, I'm not expecting Shakespeare-level eloquence, but when your sushi chef's English is so horrible, and his accent is thicker than a miso soup. It affects the whole experience. The explanation was so bad that I was guessing the fish every dish. AndI didn't win any prizes. Other than the phone being a huge red flag, Let's just say the kitchen could've used a spruce-up. For the big bucks I shelled out, I expected a spotless setup. On to the food. The high end dishes were good but 3-4 of the dishes were bland with no flavor. One dish both of us actually couldnt finish after the first bite. Props to our server, though. I'm pretty sure she's the chef's better half, and her service was top-notch. But here's the kicker--they slipped in a 20% tip without asking. Come on, folks, let me decide how much to tip. In short I won't be returning and I regret coming here to spend $1000 on my wife's birthday to have such a poor experience

Super authentic experience with a very hospitable staff. Some of the best sushi I’ve had in the States.

Great experience, very fresh, and tasty. We did the Omakase Miyagi (you have to request this menu days in advance when making the reservation), which started off with three dishes with several pieces (attached pictures). After that there was several pieces of nigiri served, notable mentions off the top of my head are A5 waygu, toro, bluefin tuna, uni. If I recall I believe the primary source of the fish is Hokkaido with other areas being sprinkled in. few seats, which makes for a nice quiet experience with whoever you decide to experience it with. Favorites of the night were: Monkfish liver, oyster w/ cavier, softshell crab, snowcrab, two different uni (one from santa barbara and the other from Hokkaido), the eel nigiri was interesting, A5 waygu, toro, and there was one nigiri that had a chili leaf that was a ride of flavor from start to finish. also the vanilla truffle icecream to end the meal was great!

I had an amazing experience at Sushi Miyagi tonight. Every bite of sushi was flavorful and delicious, all with their own creativity and uniqueness. The chef explained each dish and even showed pictures of the fish so we could learn about each one. We ordered sake which was so good I want to find the bottle and buy more. The service was also great and they were so kind and made it a personalized and genuine experience. My favorites were the A5 Wagyu (it's a must have), the baby barracuda, sardine, toro, and uni. But all were amazing. Highly recommend!

We had an intimate date night at Sushi Miyagi as we were the only diners for the 8pm seating. Omakase menu and maximum 6 diners at one seating. Easily found street parking at 8 on a Saturday. The establishment is opened by a husband and wife team, Shin and Miho. Miho greeted us at the door and we had amazing service and hospitality all night. She recommended a bottle of sake and the Suntory draft beer was delicious. Shin the sushi chef prepared the tastiest fish. I thought I had tried a LOT of fish even having gone to Japan many times. But was blown away. Tried a lot of new fish I've never even heard of all mostly Japan. The salmon was from Alaska! And so good. Tbh, I didn't capture all the names of the fish since I was too busy eating but for sure will be back. Wonderful neighborhood gem. Who would've thought there would be amazing omakase in Brentwood?!

We had ordered to-go from here a couple times in the Covid era and have been meaning to do the full omakase in person. Took us a while to do it but so glad we did. Miho and Chef Shin are such great hosts, and the sushi was absolutely top notch. Competes with anywhere in the city.

I was able to come here for lunch on a Saturday and was amazed at the customer service and dedication to craft. There were 4 people total (could fit 6 max) and he started us off with an appetizer of freshly fried crab, oyster, monkfish liver, and this cooked mackerel (I think). I normally don't like cooked fish but it was super savory and not too fishy!! The monkfish liver was amazing! The amazing quality of all the fish, the rice, freshly grated wasabi, and ginger were all highlights of this meal. My favorite was the seared swordfish! First time having swordfish and it was mouthwatering. It was soft and umami but not too fishy. You aren't really full after the meal, so we ordered some Uni after (super yummy)! I also highly recommend their sake!! The yuzu one is sweet and tastes like juice but there are some great dry sake options too. They also gave homemade yuzu vanilla ice cream at the end!! I really enjoyed this part too Overall a great low key spot to enjoy some omakase! Tips: street parking is difficult so we had to park at the VA lot across the street Don't get there too late because they won't make up the dishes they already served! There is also a cancellation charge if you cancel less than 6 or 7 days before your reservation

Went here last night after a co-worker raved about the food and it did not disappoint! The quality of the cooked food and sushi was top notch and the service impeccable! Each dish was prepared with love by the sushi chef, and the portions were perfect! My photos are just a portion of what was served. Will definitely be back here again!

Shin & his wife are amazing. The food was incredible each dish better than the next. A once in a lifetime experience. The service was some of the best I've ever had and the restaurant ambience was perfect. Loved everything about it.

First time here, I love how fresh the fishes are and able to taste the difference in them. Good portion, great service, chef is really nice too. We will definitely be back!

We came here as a result of intense Yelp searching as this establishment was not rated in the Michelin guide. While not at the level of various establishments like Sushi Noz and Sushi Sho in Hawaii, I think it is on the tier below them. Unless major changes are made which I will mention below, I think it will remain at this tier. Our meal included the following items: sea snail, sawa kani, ankimo, oyster, Mozuku, bonito, inaba, halibut, Hokkaido hairy crab, madai, Hokkaido hotate, shima aji, mekajiki, amaebi, sake, zuke, otoro, kohada, aji, kamasu, kinmedai with black truffle, nodoguro, ikura, Hokkaido uni, A5 wagyu, ebi soup, blue crab temaki, and finally a truffle vanilla ice cream. The Hokkaido hairy crab was definitely one of the best I have had, served slightly warm. The texture, succulence, and sweetness of the crab was in perfect display here. We were served mozuku, which I don't believe I've ever had before, a very noodle-like Okinawan seaweed. It was hard to hear Miyagi's voice through the plexiglass with his Japanese accent so I had to research this item after the fact. As for the nigiri, this is where most of my criticism lies. First of all, the chef combines all the neta in a heaping fashion on a single plate under some saran wrap. This can't be ideal for separating the flavors of the fish, especially when there is so much nuance involved when tasting them individually. The rice while seasoned, it didn't have enough vinegar which is needed for perfect edomae sushi. The grains of rice didn't have the proper disbursement in the mouth as well; again, a novice wouldn't notice these intricacies but a seasoned omakase diner will. Again, I am splitting hairs here but that is why I can't rate this on the same tier as the aforementioned Michelin rated sushi establishments. Granted we opted for the most premium option, we were the only party at the counter that had it. I'm not sure why the others didn't select it as they missed out on the best dish of the night, the expertly prepared Hokkaido hairy crab. Our bill was north of $700, so it is definitely not an inexpensive place to experiment with. I think for a more novice diner I would recommend this establishment; however if you want to have better nigiri with better shari I would opt for Sushi Inaba with Chef Yasu or dining at Shunji.

My husband and I had an incredible time and experience at Sushi Miyagi a very unexpected experience. We love sushi but this took our taste buds to another level of amazingness. Chef and his wife are so welcoming and explained every fish and showed us a picture of the fish we are enjoying. They are an amazing team and it shows how much they dedicate and enjoy what they are doing and most of all make sure you are satisfied to the fullest. Thank you Chef Shin and Miho for a great birthday experience! Btw their signature draft beer is a MUST!

Wow wow wow. Words cannot describe how wonderful it was to have another omakase at Sushi Miyagi!!! By far the best omakase I've ever had!!! Sushi Miyagi only does omakase, and have two sittings per night. The space is small and intimate, and they only have about six seats each sitting. You HAVE to make a reservation and they will call you to confirm your reservation and allow you to choose the type of omakase: premium or regular. This time, I chose the premium one and was not disappointed! The level of freshness of the ingredients, flavor pairings, and type of ingredients (hairy crab, uni flown from Hokkaido, caviar, A5 wagyu from Miyazakigyu) were worth every penny of this experience. It was 10/10 because I was able to try some of the freshest and high-end ingredients I've only heard of (cod sperm, hairy crab, Miyazakigyu wagyu) and they were all worth the hype because of how the chef prepared them. The techniques, flavor pairings, and execution were delicious and prolific. This is not a cheap place, but I think it's worth every penny for this experience!

Sushi Miyagi continues to impress. My bf treated me here for my 2021 birthday dinner. Considering COVID, they had dividers between the seats that would separate the parties. Luckily, we were the only ones for the time slot we reserved, so it felt super special having a one-on-one interaction with the sushi chef and the hostess (wife). The quality of the fish that they serve was super fresh. My favorite was when the sushi chef torched some wood onto the fish, creating a smokey taste. A true treat-yourself experience. 10/10 would recommend again

Omg I can't believe this kind of restaurant existed in LA. Its the best BEST sushi restaurant ever in my entire life. I can't even write the review about this restaurant because it's too good. Thank you for being very professional and caring about Japanese food like that.

One of the best omakase experience I had. My girlfriend and I was here this Saturday for after valentine celebration with high expectation and it didn't fail to impress! All of the course menu and the service were amazing and well composed. We both got the "date" or the regular course and we left the place with food baby :) i would recommend this place to anyone looking for a solid omakase experience. Will be coming back with my family next time!

Came here for dinner and boy I was happy that I got a last minute reservation there. This little Gem is located in Brentwood and it's easy to find. We were welcomed by the chefs wife and she lead us to the our seats. We had a great variety of nigiri, I would say close to 15 different dishes. Most of the fish came from Japan and it was very fresh. All the fish melts in the mouth, my favorite was the red snapper and the halibut. I can't wait to come here again and have another omakase experience there and try new cuts of fish

Food was good..but I was throwing up the whole last night after the Valentines Omakase..even now Im still feeling sick...and we paid for almost 700+ by the way, the service tips they insisted us to pay for 20%. just curious, isnt tips is up to the customers?

The omakase is incredible and the real deal, owned and operated by the most adorable husband and wife. Will absolutely return!

Dinner Review: Saturday, 5/8/21 Opened 8/1/2019, Sushi Miyagi is relatively new to the Los Angeles sushi scene. Chef Shin, however, is no stranger to the city. Born in Osaka, Chef Shin moved to LA at the age of 29. After working at numerous sushi restaurants in the area, his experience led him to open his own spot in Brentwood. When I heard that he used to be the chef at Sushi I-NABA, one of my favorite sushi bars in LA, I knew I had to check this place out. Specializing in Omakase, the menu changes daily based on season and availability. When I called for same day reservations, they had two options for dinner. The $125 option included 3 appetizers, 12 pieces of sushi, a hand roll, and ice cream. The $155 option included 4 appetizers, 14 pieces of sushi, a hand roll, and ice cream. All of us opted for the $125 Omakase. It was our first time here, and we did not know what to expect. The experience at Sushi Miyagi proved to be very intimate. With just a couple of tables and a small sushi bar, space is limited. The four of us were the only customers in the restaurant the whole time, which made it feel private. The decor was nice, and the chef was friendly. The sushi itself was certainly high quality. The use of two different styles of sushi rice (shari), alternating depending on the fish, was a nice touch. Sushi Miyagi definitely provides an elevated dining experience. Highlighted by traditional Japanese preparation techniques, this restaurant is a big step up from your average neighborhood sushi bar. That being said, I won't be adding Sushi Miyagi to my list of top sushi bars in Los Angeles (though the potential is there). I thought a number of the fish lacked flavor, and the texture of the rice (shari) could use a little bit of work.

Everything about this restaurant was perfection. The place is very intimate with only 6 counter seats. Miho greeted us at the door and was extremely attentive throughout the night. She suggested sake which paired perfectly with the meal. We had the whole place to ourselves and got special treatment by the chef, Shin. We were lucky to get last minute reservations and were pleasantly surprised by this jewel we didn't even know was in our neighborhood. The OMAKASE was one of the BEST I have ever had! We got to try fish we had never heard of. Each dish was meticulously prepared and made with love. And the homemade ice cream was to die for. If you appreciate top notch sushi, this is a must try!You will not regret it.

Our friends are regulars here and when they found out that we were driving out to LAX they booked us the sushi bar and insisted that we join them. All I can say is WOW!!! This was my first Omakase experience. Basically the sushi chef makes you what he sees fit. We are talking true Japanese food most of which was flown in from Japan. I tried things that I had never heard of before and it was fantastic. I knew we were in for something unique when the first plate had a miniature crab that was deep fried and you just rat the entire crab. Amazing. This was more than a dinner. It was an experience! I'd bore you with all of the amazing sushi that we got to try but who knows what will show up on your plate. That's what makes it such a great experience. And a must try for fans of amazing Japanese food.

Was visiting LA and knew I had to find an Omakase spot when this came up in my search. Sushi Miyagi is more intimate, with only 6 seats at the bar, so everyone gets a good view of the Chef at work. There are 3 Omakase options and we chose the most expensive one, Omakase miyagi which was definitely on the pricier side of over $300 pp after tax and tip without drinks. My understanding is that the price points are based on the quality of the fish that is served. We had a total of ~21 dishes: 4 small dishes, 14 nigiris, 1 soup, 1 handroll, and 1 dessert. Overall, everything was absolutely delicious, some of my favorite bites are: - ankimo - fish milt - hairy crab - wagyu - kinmedai topped with truffle - and the thing that blew me away was definitely the truffle ice cream which is unlike anything I've ever tried before My only complaint is that I will say that this is more expensive than any other Omakase spot I've been to before.

A wonderful experience! We celebrated my dad's birthday! Parking - street parking was easy enough to find Seating - the interior is intimate and small but it's part of the very nice atmosphere and experience of getting to talk to the chef We all did the Premium Miyagi Omakase for 260 per person. It came with 4 appetizers, 15 sushi nigiri, soup, handroll, and dessert. I was so stuffed! Everything was very fresh and thoughtfully and skillfully prepared. I really enjoyed the small smelt fish and the crab dish. Overall a great omakase experience.

This was our first experience trying omakase, and it was incredible. We were only told about the $160 option when we went this weekend. The quality of the seafood here is similar to nobu. The venue is small, intimate, and clean. It's a husband and wife team and they work seamlessly together. You can tell the chef loves his craft and is meticulous with cleanliness. The favorites of the meal was the halibut, red snapper, and cod. I don't even like wasabi and ginger normally but here it was such a high grade of qualify that I did enjoy it. Will definitely be back. Be advised the menu is seasonal based on what's in stock and changes.

One of my best sushi experiences ever. Up there with n/naka, minus the flare and extreme price tag. The service is excellent since it's just you and the chef at his sushi bar.

Okay you guys... how in this world did this place get 5stars across the board? There was not one piece where I said wow. Each piece I was praying that it would get better but instead it got worse and worse. I literally almost vomited eating one specific piece. Please save your money and do NOT get premium for $600. Just go to kazunori and call it a day. Whoever gave 5 stars... we must've ate at different restaurants.

The best best best sushi omakase restaurant ever in my life!!! I went there for my wife's birthday celebration today and she almost cried whenever she bites each sush because they were soooo good. She has experiences of eating good sushi even in Japan local restaurants in the past, but she indeed agreed "sushi Miyagi" is the best sushi restaurant ever, too. I really appreciate to the chef Shinichi and the server Miho for offering the greatest birthday dinner for my wife and me with their amazing kindness and the professionalism of cooking. I highly recommend this restaurant if you are looking for a great sushi restaurant!! I will surely visit there again!!

Loved this experience! We came for the premium omakase offering. Loved the bites at the beginning that seemed unique for omakase (oyster with caviar, monkfish liver, crab croquette) and some dishes I've never had before (shirako - aka cod milt). They had a truffle ice cream at the end that was also amazing! Overall, lots of high quality classics enhanced by inventive additions. The ambiance is also classy and intimate - you're sitting right in front of the chef (6 total seats at the bar) so it's probably not the best for conversation. Come to simply enjoy the experience :)

OMG! The most DELECTABLE food, AMAZING experience, and BEST service I have EVER received from 6 years of searching for the most TASTY and EXQUISITE sushi experience in all of Los Angeles. Not only was the service beyond amazing and attentive, but the reviews speak for the FOOD. WOW. Period. Just. Wow. I have never had sushi this delactable, fresh, and colorful. I highly recommend Sushi Miyagi omakase for any and every tasty sushi meal. I am beyond happy to have spent my brother's very special birthday with these culinary artists. I'm baffled how I was able to make a reservation so easily. The quality of the dining experience and the top-tier sushi in Los Angeles should have prevented obtaining a reservation without waking up early on Saturday morning to play the reservation-lottery when the new, hottest restaurant releases the select few seats for the month. I will be dining with Chef Miyagi as many times as I can afford until the rest of the City catches on and hopelessly jams the place.

One of my favorite omakase places in LA. Extremely fresh fish and live crabs. We had sake plus two people with mandatory tips $600+ total which is totally worth it. Their free dessert is homemade truffle ice cream, so good. This place is really small, good for dating, but probably not desirable for group over 6 ppl. Highly recommended if you like authentic Japanese sushi.

It was my husband's birthday, so we're celebrating here. A great dining experience is provided by the fresh food, layered flavors, and overall dining experience. We'll definitely be back.

So glad to see an authentic omakase sushi place with this caliber opened in Brentwood. Chef Shin pours his heart and soul in the dishes and it showed. We thoroughly enjoy our meal, we opted for the $210 option for that night and didn't disappoint since it included the A5 wagyu, I still remember that bite of melt in your mouth and the charcoal grill umami. We enjoy every single fish from start to the end. The finish with the vanilla/ truffle ice-cream is to die for. Why haven't I had that combo before! It was the perfect finish. We will come back for sure.

Sushi Miyagi is unforgettable. Chef is a gifted artist. If you love omakase and authentic sushi experiences, you MUST go to Sushi Miyagi. The service was fantastic, Mio was our server and her knowledge of sake and Japanese cuisine is immense. Chef's menu was perfection, each course building on the last. The space is intimate and quiet, and perfect for the birthday dinner we were celebrating. Street parking was easy. Please, go to Sushi Miyagi and spread the word about this hidden gem!

This place requires reservation. However, if you are looking for a really great omakase, you will not be disappointed with this place. Hands down it is the best omakase meal I had in LA. In my opinion, it is on par with what I had in Tokyo.

So far I've been here twice--once with some friends and again for my dad's birthday--and both times were amazing. I've tried both the 160 and 200 omakase options and would recommend them to anyone who loves sushi! I've been fortunate to try omakase menus all over--including Sushi Kashiba and in Tokyo--and I would rate Sushi Miyagi as easily in my top 3 of all time. It's owned and run by the chef and his wife, who are incredibly friendly and passionate about their food. I really liked the marinated blue fin tuna, the amber jack, and the seared barracuda. The San Diego uni is some of the best I've had, and the Hokkaido scallop is OP. Definitely will come here again!

I'm so glad we went to Sushi Miyagi for my wife's birthday. After the Covid-19 lockdown we were craving some awesome sushi and this place did not disappoint. We had their $155/person omakase and it was delicious and in my opinion worth it. They have a lot of safety precautions due to COVID-19 so it felt safer to eat here. They knew the dinner was for my wife's birthday and they made it feel special for her. We had fish we never tried at other sushi places and they were wonderful to try. Since I was driving, I had only ordered a glass of sake. After tasting it we ordered the whole bottle. It was the Lady Luck sake if you want to give it a try. Definitely give this place a shot.

Everything from beginning to end was amazing. I'm no nigiri expert but I did grow up eating the freshest seafood so I know when I'm getting premium quality! The chef and his wife are both extremely friendly. The chef saw that I was full 2/3 way in since I started splitting my nigiri in half and giving the other half to my husband and from then on he made me 1/2 a nigiri and gave my husband the 1/2 from mine on top of his normal serving. We had an awesome dinner thanks to the chef and his lovely wife!

My boyfriend took me here for my birthday dinner earlier this week. Wow, the whole Omakase experience was amazing! From start to finish. I loved the intimate setting and the chef and his wife were both so sweet. I believe we got the 12 piece Omakase and it was very filling. Everything was delicious. Nothing tasted too fishy at all and the chefs personal touches with the sauce and toppings all complimented each other so well. Lastly, I don't have a sweet tooth so I wasn't really craving ice cream. But they brought out ice cream with a candle for my birthday so I took a bite. Ended up eating the whole bowl clean! Even their ice cream is good. Definitely saving this place for our future sushi dates.

Dine here before Michelin finds out about them!!! They gave so much food, much more than other sushi places I have been to in L.A. that charge the same. There is a special technique and skill that the chef has and he uses special garnishes. The beer was great too. The hostess greets you in a kimono and says "enjoy the tasty foamy froth" as she serves you the beer. The service was great and they really made me feel welcomed, which is something you get while in Japan and rarely in L.A. That is what made them authentic.

And we were taken on a sushi adventure! Have you ever had barracuda because I hadn't but now I have! The homemade vanilla ice cream with truffle was decadent without being overbearing.

We eat out a lot, and this is one of the best restaurants we have ever been to! The food is just amazing and truly authentic experience. If you can afford it, you should 100% eat at this restaurant. We will definitely be back in few months!! Just one word to describe this place and that is "AMAZING"!!!!

I went there with my fiancé . We ordered "OMAKASE "which means chef's recommendation . Their omakase was $280 per person . It was quite expensive but worth it . I've bee so many sushi restaurants in America and Japan . I would say this restaurant is the best Sushi restaurant in America . I highly recommend this place .

This is a really special place. The chef-owner and his wife are very kind and gracious. Came here for a special occasion and had the higher level omakase. Had not done omakase before. What a treat! Seemingly endless parade of exquisite sushi meticulously prepared in front of your eyes. The meal was worth every penny.

Wow! What an amazing experience! This restaurant deserves a million stars!! Miho was such a great hostess and her husband, Shin, masterful sushi chef was the most creative yet. We loved the presentation, interesting dishes, the fish was so fresh and yummy. We are so excited to take our friends here. If you want something very memorable, check this restaurant out.
