The Best New Sushi In NYC

"You know a sushi place is special when the team commissions an artist to design the takeout packaging. That’s the case with Sushi Muse, a new takeout and delivery project from the chef of high-end Japanese spots Odo and Hall. Fortunately, the food inside their present-like bento boxes lives up to the design, including some flaky-sweet anago, sparkly silver kohada, and idyllic chutoro that should run for mayor of New York. We’d recommend letting the chef choose your sushi selection by ordering the original, premium, or luxury boxes (which range from $38 to $95), but you can also curate your own nigiri box or get a smaller “salmon lover” or “tuna lover” combo for $23." - hannah albertine, carlo mantuano

Dining at Sushi Muse was an experience like no other. Every element of the presentation and preparation of the meal was exquisite. I’ve never had such a delicious and beautiful meal before. The menu is inspired by the art of the current artist showing in their gallery. It is such a thoughtful and beautiful concept to create a menu in collaboration with art. The dining experience is set in the gallery, so each guest can experience the art while experiencing the beautiful meal. On top of that, the team who created this incredible experience is so talented and incredibly kind. One of my favorite parts of my dining experience there was getting recommendations by the team on what to order and then the order in which to eat each fish. I will definitely be returning. Thank you Sushi Muse for an amazing night!

Sushi Muse is a hidden gem of an authentic sushi restaurant. We had the pleasure of trying their wagyu burger, which was simply incredible and deserves to be among the top 5 burgers in NYC. The flavors were outstanding, and the quality of the wagyu beef was evident in every bite. It’s an underrated gem that shouldn’t be missed. The sashimi omakase at Sushi Muse was a true delight. The selection of fresh and flavorful fish was expertly prepared, showcasing the chef’s skill and attention to detail. The omakase experience was reasonably priced at $95 for two people, offering great value for the quality and variety of sushi. Overall, Sushi Muse offers great sushi that deserves a solid 5 out of 5 rating. With its authentic flavors, standout wagyu burger, and reasonably priced omakase, it’s a must-visit destination for sushi enthusiasts. Don’t miss the opportunity to experience this hidden gem.

Google
I don’t find many places like Sushi Muse that serves authentic, excellent quality of fish at an ethical price in NYC these days. Absolute gem. Their blue fin tuna chirashi box is my favorite lunch!!! Thank you Sushi Muse. You always make my day!

Google
I discovered this place because of their NYC restaurant week and got this box for $20.21. What a great deal!! Their fried chicken wings are so delicious and I love the wasabi leaves sushi. This is definitely one of the best deals for 2021 NYC restaurant week! Tips: it’s in the same store as HALL

NOT allergy friendly even though I put NO shellfish in my takeout order and in the notes even said it again with NO shrimp. And there was shrimp in both of my boxes.

Google
This is easily the best sushi I’ve ever had, and the service was kind. Incredible packaging even for takeout service. Highly recommend!

Yelp
I got one of their boxes for takeout and overall the quality was good. I got the omfg and it came with 8 nigiri pieces and a choice of side roll. The box was cute and the fish was fresh. Decent size with good rice to fish proportion. Also came with a piece of tamago in the box!

Yelp
I preordered vday dinner the night before and I ordered it to be picked up at 4pm on vday but it was already ready at 3pm. The fish was all dried up looking when we opened it at home and didn't look fresh at all. Also, we're allergic to Mackerel and wrote it specifically on the order about that but they still gave us mackerel in the order. We also asked for the low-sodium soy sauce on the order but didn't get that as well. The waygu didn't taste fresh at all. We had a stomach ache all night. Pretty much ruined our valentine's day. Did not expect this type of quality from a $160 dinner.

Yelp
This was very good quality sushi! Your wallet will pay for it. I order two omfg to go and it came to $100.00 I would return and try more. The sushi was very pretty asthetislly pleasing from the box, to the placement it was very nice. I had a hard time finding the restaurant it's tucked into a building.

Yelp
This place is so good, I am writing my first ever restaurant review. Definitely my new favorite sushi place in New York. I love high quality nigiri, and in US, I normally tend to only find it at Michelin starred Japanese restaurants, which I visit only on special occasions. For everyday sushi cravings, I used to go to DomoDomo and Sugarfish. One day, I saw Sushi Muse on Doordash and gave it a shot. I was shocked to find such quality fish at such an incredible price point. This is my 5th time ordering from here. Their "omfg" is comparable to the sets from Domo Domo / Sugarfish (its good enough) however they also offer Nigiri Sampler Boxes and those are Michelin quality (or 4+ Tablog). My favorites are The Ryu and the 5 pc omakase. I can't wait to visit the restaurant in person one of these days. Unlike the reviewer below me, my special asks have been consistently honored (I don't like Saba and never get it in my Omakase)

Yelp
Got the So Xtra box with King Salmon. Flavor is 5 stars, everything tasted great. Presentation also 5 stars. Portion is on the small side. Like, I know nigiris are bite size, but you can eat two in one bite...Wait time was almost half an hour when there didn't seem to be a lot of orders. Pricing...ugh, 2.5 stars. I can't really justify this box being ~$65. Overall I think this is a 3.5 situation. I'd give it 3 stars if there were more reviews. Since mine is the second review, I don't want to drag down the overall rating, therefore it's 4.

Yelp
Sushi Muse shares the same space as Hall, but not to make it confusing and all, you order at the storefront that says Gallery. Everything is to-go but they have a nice space for outdoor seating. I had no expectations as I really came for a burger, but halfway through my sushi urge kicked in and I just went for it and got the Omega bowl...and I am definitely glad I did. The fish was super fresh and soft and just delicious. The rice was cooked well, seasoned well, each item in the bowl was taken with care. The bowl seems tiny but given it's packed, I left very satisfied. For the great quality and decent quantity, $25 is a pretty good deal (especially in our NYC covid times), and I'd 100% come back again. Since it shares a space with Hall, my husband got a burger from Hall, (which I'll review separately-but that was delicious as well!). So if you're with a friend or SO, grab a burger from Hall, some sushi from Muse and you got yourself a Japanese-inspired quick and easy surf and turf. Yes to delicious food, yes to options.

Yelp
Ignored request on notes (no mackerel), took well north of an hour to arrive and looked a wreck when arrived. Sushi itself was no where near Michelin star quality (had been to kosaka just the other week, for instance, which was phenomenal). For the price ~$160 for 3 items - New Years luxury sushi box, The Ken (5 pieces of salmon) and chicken nanban - it was hugely disappointing. Sounded an interesting concept in relation to odo, but safe to say will not be ordering here again.

Yelp
Food was amazing, setting was beautiful. Service was attentive. Their business is primarily to-go/takeaway, but there are a few seats for those that would like to stay and I am truly delighted that I did.

Yelp
Good food, but prepare for a long wait. Waited 35 minutes after ordering in-store with no other orders ahead of us (can't imagine the wait time if this place is even just slightly busy). The food was the only redeeming quality. Also no sit down, takeout only.

Yelp
Wow this restaurant never acknowledges any sort of special instructions. I've ordered from here multiple times for lunch since it's convenient to my work, but for all of the sushi you order... they give you one single soy sauce. Super annoying how many times I've made note to please please please include another but I'm always simply ignored in every single request. With all of the Japanese restaurants nearby I don't know why I keep my hopes up for them to get it right. Normally I just order from Tsurutontan or Toto. But I'm really tired of being blatantly ignored.
