"Noho: Manhattan’s popular outdoor sushi counter Sushi on Jones has closed its outpost at the Bowery Market after almost seven years, EV Grieve reports. This was the first location for the sushi stall, which drew fans for its 12-course omakase served in 30 minutes and spawned locations in the West Village, Hell’s Kitchen, on the Lower East Side, and London. The restaurant thanked customers for seven years of business at the year-round market, which opened on the corner of Bowery and Great Jones Street in 2016." - Luke Fortney

"Sushi On Jones is like that one friend who invites everyone over and hires a mariachi band, but starts fake-yawning and checking the time while people are still eating. It’s fun but it’s also uptight. The little omakase counter in the West Village—which has three other locations around the city—gives you 45 minutes to eat a 12-course $68 omakase (or a 20-course $120 one). The sushi itself is great, and the room is fun, but you’ll have to get up and leave before you know what hit you." - Team Infatuation

"Sushi On Jones beat everyone to the sushi-with-a-warm-breeze thing, since they’ve been operating an outdoor sushi bar for years. Each omakase seating here lasts 30 minutes, and you can choose between a 12-piece set for $58 or 20-courses for $105. There are also a la carte pieces of sushi and maki roll combinations available, in case you like to be in control of your own destiny. Just know that the Bowery and Hell’s Kitchen locations aren’t serving any alcohol at the moment, but the West Village location is." - Hannah Albertine

Sushi on Jones in Bowery was highlighted and starred on my recent trip to NY. My friend made reservations prior. As soon as we got on the same street a host was able to locate us and find us a table immediately. Their slogan less talk more eat definitely applies here. I recommend studying the menu prior to learn about the most popular dishes so by the time you come here you don't waste time. This place is so well managed. Everything from the waiters to the chefs. I did the 20 course omakase and my friends and I also ordered the miso soup, A5 wagyu nigiri, crispy King salmon nigiri, avocado and cucumber maki, blue crab California maki. Personally the 20 course omakase for the price was great in value. You get a little bit of everything and if you don't like specific cuts of fish just let your waiter know and they can sub something out. For the omakase, I loved the handroll, scallop, toro and A5 the most. My friend and I found ourselves pausing after each bite to appreciate each cut. Amazing textures and great buttery flavors. The crispy King salmon and A5 nigiri are must orders if you love those types of fish. The miso soup was no joke as it had plenty of enoki mushrooms and a rich broth. Definitely tasted fresh and less of the powdery version. If you want qualify sushi right around Bowery this is your spot. Service and execution definitely deserves 5 stars. Prices are reasonable and the menu is very extensive. Even for folks that aren't fans of raw fish you'll definitely find something here. I knew I had to get the omakase here and it was well worth it. If you want a more intimate and private dining experience you'll have to find a table close to the chef vs on the street with all of the noise.

Google
Solid omakase for the price point. For 12 pieces that aren’t throwaway cuts it’s a pretty great value. For example you get scallop, squid, uni, and wagyu/uni all included. The pieces aren’t as delicately constructed as I would have liked. My rice was pretty loosely packed, the fish would often be sliding off or just not well placed. Or they overdid it on the salt and the balance of flavors was off. I also noticed they tend to brush on the same brown sauce on a lot of the pieces, probably to add a kick of umami. But they do so kind of indiscriminately that I wonder if it’s a kind of shortcut to add flavor the piece wouldn’t otherwise have. they are cranking pieces out as fast as they can to meet the 30min time limit so while you aren’t necessarily rushed (like they do wait for you to finish your current piece before serving the next) it isn’t exactly a calm or relaxed experience. Its causal, a tiny stand that seats 3 comfortably, 4 uncomfortably. I liked the laid back vibe. There are probably better places to get sushi in the city but not packaged like this.

Google
This is my third time visiting a SOJ but first at the Bowery location. I went with a 20-piece/course omakase this time - started with a quick refreshing oyster shooter, followed by 17 nigiris (subbed out the wagyu for another piece), 1 hand roll and ended with a warm bowl of mushroom miso soup. As always, the food is delicious and most ingredients are quite fresh (aside from the typical imported frosted seafood). Some of my favorite pieces were sweet shrimp w/ lemon juice, seared toro with Santa Babara uni, and marinated ikura with shio soy sauce. Though the SB uni was tad on the bitter end today. While each sashimi piece is fairly large in size, I almost forgot how little the rice portion is. I would love to have more rice in each nigiri. Another small suggestion is I wished the chef would notice I was using my left hand to pick up each piece (I had the food served piece by piece) as the way he placed the nigiris is for right handed consumers, regardless if you are using barehands or chopsticks. Overall, I had a wonderful dining experience and thanks again to my server, Mikhail, and the chef (totally forgot to get his name)!!!

Google
The food was good but the service was bad, we had a reservation at 9pm but it wasn't until 10pm that we got seated. There seemed to be only one server and chef. I liked the spicy tuna Maki roll and thought it was good value. I'd perhaps order takeout next time around.

Google
$50 for a 12 course omakase you can't beat that! They also have $80 for 15. I loved everything. It's so fresh, simple and sooo good. We we're out of there in 30~min. We ordered an extra sushi called the Big Mac. It's was an explosions of flavors in your mouth, I recommend it. Reservation are a must but don't call them! Just send them a text they will reply ASAP.

Google
Top notch. Pretty damn good omakase, went with a buddy for a quick bite and was blown away. Very casual atmosphere, nothing fancy, grabbed a seat at the counter, went for the 12 piece omakase. So, I am not a fan of salmon roe, ikura. Usually it’s too salty, too fishy, too “icky?”, or some odd combination of those flavors and sensations. HOWever… the way this place preps it… wow. And in case it was just a fluke … which was good also, I came back for my wife’s birthday later in the week and it was just as good. Definitely, recommend.

Google
Fun, non-traditional spot for a quick sushi meal. Brought my little guy who is a huge salmon/tuna nigiri fan for lunch and we were the only ones here when it opened. We sat outside in one of the curbside booths given the weather was decent. I enjoyed the 12 piece omakase with a few nigiri pieces on the side for the little one. True to their branding, it was a true “30 minute omakase” experience. The fish came out expeditiously and was all very good, with a few fun twists thrown in- Everything seasoning on the salmon, a Wagyu piece thrown in, etc. The menu also contains a bunch of fun “premium” options- Wagyu/toro/uni nigiri, maki, and the like. The server was beyond pleasant and helpful. Worth a stop!

Google
Incredible tasty and pretty great quality sushi for an affordable price. While not comparable to Sushi Nakazawa in pairings or atmosphere, it felt highly comparable in quality and taste. For the 50, it felt like an incredible steal. Price: A Taste: A

Yelp
Best experience ever and the friendliest staff! They were so accommodating as we stumbled into the restaurant. The sushi was fresh, innovative and delicious. You can compare this to any Michelin star restaurants but this place has the intimacy of friendship. I enjoyed the quiet and sleek ambiance. It's a place you have to experience when you are in NYC!

Jorge P.

Yelp
One of the better options for a sub $70 omakase. Affordable, but doesn't skimp on quality. Each bite is better than the last and handcrafted right in front of you by a great chef! Very chic interior and make sure to sit at the counter for the authentic experience.

Yelp
Ah yes, Sushi on Jones... previously known for their $50 12-course omakase. Just so you're aware, they now charge $68 before tax and tip. We made a reservation and chose the sushi bar seating. Service was VERY slow to start. It looked like they had a lot of takeout orders to fill, which left us twiddling our thumbs for around 15 minutes. I won't lie, I was a little annoyed at that since they advertise this as a 45-minute omakase, but it was closer to 70 minutes from start to finish. The sushi was decent, but the size of each piece was small (I'd say 30% smaller than your average nigiri). Sushi on Jones actually reminds me a lot of Sushi by Bou. It's an affordable option, but at this price point, it'd be more cost-effective to go to Domo Domo - bigger pieces, similar fish quality, and more food, for a similar price.

Kadeesha L.

Yelp
The crispy rice roll was the best I ever had! Like seriously it was delicious melt in your mouth served slightly warm so the rice is crispy but not rip the top of your roof crispy. It also smells delicious! We tried some of waygu rolls with uni but I thought those were just ok this place is also kind of pricey but I would come back to try the omakase menu.

Diane C.

Yelp
My fiancé and I were excited to try this place. We saw that their omakase was $58 so we were sold! We made a resy for our first day landing in the city. When we arrived it was empty, no one at the bar area and pretty empty dining room. We sat down and ordered. We wanted to get the 12 course because we wanted to leave room for a post sushi meal. The fish was fresh, don't get me wrong. However, their was no WOW factor of how these fish were prepared. The fish didn't have much flavor. Either we had this place overhyped or it was just not impressive.

Lauren M.

Yelp
Best little hole in the wall traditional Japanese Omakase experience ever! I the sushi was fresh and melted in your mouth and the chef served every course at a great pace. We arrived on a Friday night to our 8:30pm reservation and it seemed like someone was already seated using our name. The wait staff realized the mishap and quickly amended the situation. They cleared the area so my friend and I can have an amazing experience while watching our nigiri be prepared. We were the last seating and they gave us complimentary miso soup and for $68 omakase I cannot complain!! $68 for 12 piece omakase. Can't get any better than this in the city.

Jane P.

Yelp
A $120 omakase per person with 20 pieces?!? Yes please!! It was such a good price for what we got! I loved all of the pieces we got. Everything was so fresh and flavorful! My favorite were the two uni. The uni was so soft, creamy and flavorful. I loved the barracuda! I have never tried this fish and it was charred and perfect! Another memorable piece was the scallop. It was so creamy and had a perfect bite to it. I was most excited for the Kobe with uni on top, but It actually was not my most favorite. I felt like the Kobe beef was to tough and I wanted it to be more on the raw side, but it was cooked way too much. I would want to go back 100%! The service was great. They made sure they explained what each piece was and they were very attentive to what we needed.

Sukkaj N.

Yelp
Sushi on Jones' Omakaze 58$ course is a must-try. The 12 pieces of chef's selection were a burst of flavors, and the reasonable price is a pleasant surprise. Just be aware of the cautious 45-minute time limit - it adds an exciting twist to the dining experience, ensuring you enjoy every bite efficiently. A delicious adventure with a touch of culinary mindfulness!

Yelp
Delicious!!! Made reservations here on a Friday night with 2 other friends and got a seat inside at the bar. I ordered the 12 course omakase and a Bigmac. A 30 minute omakase experience?! I'm in. I really enjoyed all of the fish. It tasted super fresh and it's always cool watching the chefs work their magic at the sushi bar. I'm docking a star because this location feels a little claustrophobic inside and they don't serve cocktails. I'd not recommend eating here with a group larger than 4. That said, their outdoor booths are a nice alternative and their other locations serve drinks. If this were as expensive as some other omakase alternatives, I would probably only give Sushi on Jones 4 stars, but for affordable this place is I definitely think the quality is worth leaving 5. The Big Mac is an a la crate sushi with Wagyu, toro, and uni. Heaven in a bite! I'd recommend!

Yelp
Food: 5/5 | Service: 5/5 | Experience: 5/5 My bf and I love Sushi on Jones and it's become one of our favorite casual omakase spots. Both managers who work there are incredibly hospitable and we really enjoy the company of the sushi chef. We continue to go back here because the experience never disappoints, the service is great, and the food is even better. There is limited seating so it's best to get a res and I would highly recommend the bar to watch the chef prepare the fish. All the fish is incredibly fresh and the chef has created an excellent menu. If you order the omakase there is nigiri that you can't find on the menu that the chef specially added. We always go for the omakase and add more if we're still hungry. We have already been here a few times on dates or with friends and will definitely be going back in the future. What we ordered: * 12 course omakase Things to know: * make a res, late night is usually not too busy * this location is BYOB * omakase is great but they also do rolls * for the winter the seating is enclosed and "indoors" Full menu for all locations on website: https://www.sushionjones.com/menus/#bowery

Yelp
I have been to the Manhattan locations which I really enjoyed so was excited to try the Williamsburg location, but this is simply not up to par. The fish quality was pretty good, but the rice was borderline inedible which ruined every bite. It was understaffed and the layout and ambiance of the restaurant is.. weird (to put it generously). Only 3 people working in the entire restaurant and service was ok at best. Feels like this place is on its way out and isn't even trying. Not worth the money.

Vivian L.

Yelp
Have always heard of this place and heard Dua Lipa comes a lot...so decided to try it out. I usually like the more traditional places (amane, noz, Nakaji), but my friend wanted to try this out as well and for the price I didn't think it would be that bad. I liked the outdoor omakase vibes - very different from other places, and quite the experience. However, the space was very small - barely enough space on the counter for my liking. It was SO fast and rushed. If my friend and I didn't pause and push back, we probably would've finished the meal in 15-20 minutes. Right as we picked up the piece to eat, the next one was placed on our platter. The chef just kept making and making them and we always saw that the next piece was ready before we even touched the current one. I know they have other locations, and not sure if those are better. Price wise, I would say Shiki is a lot better and not as rushed. Not a terrible place to go for more affordable omakase though.

Chloe Y.

Yelp
Really good sushi. Service was good. Place is too tight. Can't fit your food in the table or can't even get up and go to the bathroom comfortable. It's just too tight to move around.

Jillian N.

Yelp
I loved this place! I haven't been to many omakase places in NY but out of the ones I've been to, hands down the best. We reserved a table at the sushi omakase bar. They have a time limit of 45 min I believe and they serve you very quickly for the 12 course so we finished in about 30-35 min. The staff was very nice and accommodating. Jenn and Alvin were amazing. We will definitely be back when in town!

Pooja M.

Yelp
Sushi on Jones is a must for me when I'm in NYC, and with a plethora of sushi spots in the big apple, that is high praise! You simply can't beat the price for value you're getting with the 12-piece omakase here. Sure, the price has gone up over the years but it still remains one of the only restaurants I know of where you can get 12 premium cuts of fish for under $100. The service is really quick as well, so this is a great spot for a quick lunch or dinner. I have come here with friends, and I have come here alone and each time has been a no-fuss experience. Definitely reminds me of being in Japan where you're in and out of a restaurant in the blink of an eye and always feeling sated afterwards.

Elaine T.

Yelp
Fast-casual omakase is certainly a unique concept and I'm glad I tried this place, but the food and ambience were such a mismatch that I felt like I was cheapening the amazing sushi by eating it outside with a pyramid of garbage bags in my purview. My guess is that it might be more ambient at night, but if you just want affordable omakase, this place is for you. Walked by here with my friend on a Saturday around 3pm; they have a large menu facing the street and after taking a quick glance, I somehow was convinced by my friend and the staff to sit down at the bar (a week later, I still can't believe I had spontaneous omakase). Though they are situated at the corner of a busy intersection, the bar is in a more secluded area. Service in general was friendly and quick throughout our visit. We had other food plans, so we opted for the a la carte--one each of the akami, ama ebi (shrimp), and California uni. Each piece, but specifically the uni, had such an indulgent texture and I felt it was well worth the price. Flavour-wise, I enjoyed the ama ebi the most as it had a very pleasant sweetness. The three pieces were so good that we decided to splurge on one more and got the crispy rice tuna. I really enjoyed this one as well, but it wasn't as notable to me as the standard nigiris.

Yelp
After many years, I finally went to the "OG" nyc spot for affordable omakase! But, to my dismay I was disappointed with the experience. When I first heard of Sushi on Jones, it was around $50 for omakase. I checked the website before I left and saw it was $58 (I get it! The pandemic, inflation, etc) and was fine with paying the $58. When I get there in person, it was $68. Regardless, since we made the reservation we decided to try it out anyways. We were seated at an outside table (not the counter) and got the 12 piece omakase. The fish was just ok - for some reason the quality of fish did not live up to our standards. There are definitely better options out there especially at this price point.

Hajir S.

Yelp
I love omakase in the city and especially love the concept of a quick omakase to catch up with a friend, go on a first date, or enjoy dinner during a busy day. This however is not the quality of most omakases in the city that have executed on this concept. For some reason it just doesn't live up to what you would hope to get. The service is actually really good providing efficiency, care, and casual friendliness throughout the meal. I really actually enjoyed everything about the service including the attentiveness with beverages. We got a bottle of Sav Blanc which was decent, but nothing to write home about. My glass was never empty until the bottle was done which was very nice. Same is true of the water and tea. The fish however didn't live up to the standards of most omakases in the city. Often times the fish was too cold to even taste it, but even when it wasn't, it still didn't have the quality that one finds even at a Sushi by Bou or Omakase by Korami. I wouldn't expect Sushi on Jones to live up to Sushi Zo with "ribbons of sashimi" as Pete Wells puts it, but the chu-toro didn't melt in my mouth and the wagyu uni didn't meld together like the wagyu uni does at Sushi by Bou. The rice also doesn't taste fresh, I'm not even sure it's warm which is weird, and it is certainly not molded to the sushi. It feels like it's been pre-portioned or something like that. That might be why the fish is often cold as well. I'm not sure I'll be coming back to Sushi on Jones. At the same price point there are so many other options.

Michael Y.

Yelp
While eating sushi at a shack may feel a bit ratchet, this is probably one of the most worth it places to have omakase. You'll get a wide array of different fish in various styles, from local to Japanese imports. Given that you only have 30-minute appointments, you will feel rushed eating. It's basically an interval-eating set of 1-2 minutes per piece. My main complaint was the fish temperature. I always like my fish to be the same temperature as the rice, which in all is also about the same temperature as your mouth for the most smooth eating experience. Here, the fish is often much colder than the rice. This is probably a by-product of the fact that the kitchen is so small, and the chef is a one-man team, so prep is much harder to do. For the price, the fish quality is fantastic, but don't expect it to be as good as the top end omakase places. The environment almost forces you into the chef's kitchen. The shack is in a small alleyway, and the kitchen is compact and immerses you in the chef's workspace. If you're looking for a mid-tier omakase experience, be sure to stop by here for a quick bite!

Kristin J.

Yelp
Great casual omakase place! They are quite accommodating about not just allergies, but preferences. The selection was delicious, and like any truly great sushi place, the rice has just the right texture and balance of seasoning. I wish we could have taken our server (the owner?) out for a drink- cool, attentive guy from Hawaii, happy to explain the different options and goes over your individual selections in great detail when served, and just plain fun! Oh...no liquor license yet so BYOB.

Sucheta B.

Yelp
My first time trying omakase and the quality was great! It felt intimate and you got to learn about each dish. Would go back!

Kristie N.

Yelp
This is my first time doing omakase, and Sushi on Jones did not disappoint! We originally came in hoping to do the 12-piece for $58, but the server convinced us to do the 20-piece for $105. 100% worth it. We were able to make reservations, so there was no wait. Keep in mind, it is outdoors so I can see it getting chilly during the colder months, and super hot during the summer, but today's weather was perfect! I wholeheartedly enjoyed the ambiance here. They played 90's - early 00's R&B songs, that I sang along to during my meal. I'm not sure if it was the kitchen porter, but he was very kind. He smiled at us often, and laughed when I began singing along to some songs. Our waiter was very attentive, and explained every piece of sushi to us. We started off with miso soup and began our sushi journey. The sushi was fresh and simply divine. I was a little scared going in because there are some types of sushi I just don't mess with such as uni (yeah I know, I'm a disappointment). Anyway, turns out I just wasn't having good uni. Sushi on Jones has definitely changed my perspectives on it, and I'm willing to give it a try again! The sushi was very well curated. There's supposedly a time limit to eat, but we were not informed of one. We stayed about an hour with no trouble. 10/10 would recommend to anyone in NYC who appreciates sushi the way I do. Sushi on Jones reignited my love for sushi!

Chris P.

Yelp
Over a year ago I finally had my second omakase meal here for only $35. I had the full experience as if I was having a real omakase. The place was literally a whole in a wall. Brandon was behind the counter and the chef was Thai. Service was quick and efficient. From start to finish each piece presented is equivalent to telling a story. Each piece hit the spot. This was also the first time where the chef had served each piece with soy sauce and the real wasabi. The omakase ended with a hand roll. I was planning to visit their sister restaurant but the pandemic hit. Hopefully when things normalize, I'll definitely hit those spots.

Sarah C.

Yelp
I've heard great things about this place and decided to check it out one day... I know I went pretty early in the day (or at least during a weird time that no one has a full meal) and it was completely empty. It felt weird being the only person there and even weirder when the chef is waiting for you to finish eating and is just watching lmao. I kinda wish they told you what pieces were going to be served (I guess it does defeat the purpose of chefs choice) but I would still like to know! There were some pieces I didn't like - especially the salmon with everything seasoning on top... it was just too abnormal lol. I would rather pay a little more for better atmosphere and more traditional pieces

Adam G.

Yelp
Fresh fish and quick service. All the basic fish, toro, salmon, yellowtail, are well flavored, but toppings can be more creative. Sake recommendation was great and good price. Good place to have casual high-quality sushi Omakase with friends.

Therese L.

Yelp
I am such a huge fan of this concept! The ambiance was super hip. It's tucked in with other stores, but it's easy to spot. It was my first time experiencing a casual, yet high quality omakase. Definitely get the uni from Japan, it melts in your mouth! We had to get another one! I'll let the pictures speak for itself. Great service too!

David H.

Yelp
Great little hole in the wall for fresh Omakase. I had the 12 piece Omakase and it was delicious. I'd definitely recommond going for the 12 or 20 piece Omakase. One of my favorite pieces were the Wagyu with Uni and the Toro. Really tasty and affordable here.

Yelp
I wanted to indulge a bit for a solo lunch and was in the area so I tried their omakase. Not bad but not amazing either. Honestly felt like my money was better spent elsewhere..

Richard M.

Yelp
Fantastic quaint and charming sushi. Nice variety; friendly people; good tea; EXcellent food.

Jonathan C.

Yelp
It's hard to give a low rating for good fish but relative to other omakases, there aren't really a good variety of fish. Sushi on Jones has your standard "expensive" pieces like wagyu, uni, and combos/variations of those and your standard"omakase" pieces like salmon, lean & medium fatty tuna, and scallop but there really wasn't a variety of fishes. One of the pieces was crab which is the only piece that I don't really see in other omakase. Though different, I bet this is their cost saving measure. The crispy rice was also a let down. The sauce on the piece drowned the fish flavor out but the fact that the trigger was crispy was cool, I guess. Though the selection was very standard, it doesn't mean the fish wasn't good. I definitely enjoyed the flavor of each piece and would recommend Sushi on Jones for a first time omakase.

Joie T.

Yelp
Good quality, but I would've preferred a different setting. Space was too cramped..we could barely fit the 4 of us and the chairs were uncomfortable. $58 price tag wasn't bad for an omakase experience. My favorites were the scallop, seared salmon, blue fin tuna, wagyu uni, uni, and blue crab. Side note: they only have bottled water and you have to pay for that

Bryan S.

Yelp
This is a quick omakase spot with about 4 indoor bar seats and 2 outdoor bar seats plus a few tables on the side walk. Everything was very fresh and tasty. The whole experience for the 12 piece omakase took a little over 30 minutes and was a great value for $58. The server was attentive and even gave us 1 extra piece for free which was a nice surprise. Highly recommend to give this place a try. My favorites were the squid, ikura, eel and red snapper.

Yelp
So glad I was able to try this place when I was in NY this past Labor Day weekend! This place has been on my bookmarks for quite awhile and I've always wanted to try the original location at Bowery Market. The place is extremely small and only seats 6-7 people max. I made a reservation for lunch in advance and checked every day on Resy until the date I wanted was available. It was a hot day and I was early enough to ask the host if we could sit in the inside under the shade. He was very accommodating and allowed us to sit right away after the first seating left. I understand that a lot of people may not be used to an omakase this casual and out in the open but it was super yummy, nonetheless! The heat was almost unbearable but we had some iced green tea to pair with our omakase. The experience goes by super quickly and has an above average price. However, at the end I added the Wagyu-Ni handroll and it was the best last piece! I truly enjoyed every piece and would probably try their indoor restaurant next time!

Yelp
Had the 12 piece omakase which was delicious and a different variety than the typical experience. Good vibes and excellent music that I wish they could share on Spotify with the public! Please ? Excellent service. 5 stars.

Yelp
I visited Sushi on Jones on the recommendation of Thrillist's "Best Omakase Sushi in NYC" list. I left the stall seriously disappointed, less in the fish but more in the experience and feeling of money wasted. Sushi on Jones is advertised as a quick, casual, and cheap sushi restaurant with a few locations in NYC. I visited the Bowery Market shop as it had been designated as the "Flagship" but I think that was a mistake. It cramped and uncomfortable. Aside from the bad uni and ikura, the quality/taste of the fish was good. But the sushi was sloppy and over sauced. As I was sitting in front of a window on the sidewalk, it was hard to hear the chef when he told me what each piece was even when I asked multiple times. I was aware that the meal was set for 30 minutes. What I was not prepared for was a rapid fire 15-minute experience from the time I sat down to the time I left. After I paid, I wondered what the 20% tip I left was for. I interacted with the waiter for 1-2 minutes total; half of that was me giving him feedback on what I liked after he asked. All the waiter does is take the order (there are few choices) and pour water (there is no alcohol and the stall is not BYOB). I left disappointed, confused with the restaurant's status, and wondering where I should go next to satisfy my lingering hunger and how I could spend the rest of my evening. As patrons continue to rave at Sushi on Jones, I guess I will try the West Village location at some point, but I'm in no rush. I recommend Shinn East instead at this price point.

Yelp
Me and two other girlfriends visited NYC for a day trip and this was where we wanted to go for lunch. To make sure they were available, we texted for a reservation. I love the counter concept of amazing quality sushi for a reasonable price. It was one of the girls first time trying Omakase so it was nice to pop her sushi bubble. The sushi chefs were friendly and were open to switching the fish for us if we didn't like it but we wanted the authentic experience of what they had to offer. After we ate, we had such a good experience we wanted to go back for dinner !

Yelp
I read about Sushi on Jones a few years ago and was intrigued by the concept so had it on my bucketlist for my next visit to NY. I don't know why but I had envisioned it would be a cute and fun dining experience, eating delicious sushi next to a big green park. Instead, I was dripping sweat in 90+ degree weather, eating sushi off a sidewalk and really contemplating whether I'd be getting food poisoning. I can't say any of the sushi stood out in particular but nothing beats the value you get here -- $59 for 12 pieces (including uni and toro!). It's a great place to go if you're on a time crunch and looking to get a quick omakase fix. We were in and out in 30 minutes. To be honest, I waited a bit to write this review because the Ikura we had tasted so OFF. It was so sour that I was unsure of whether they seasoned it with something or it had gone bad. Being me, I didn't say anything (it already went into my stomach) and held my breath that I wouldn't get food poisoning at night. 24 hours later, I'm still alive and well so will chalk it up to preference or sheer luck.

Yelp
There is absolutely nothing to dislike about Sushi on Jones!! It's a walk-by 30 min omakase window! So cute and such a great price. 12 delicious pieces for only $58. Every piece was mouthwatering and so fresh. Next time I'm gonna indulge and just get the 12 piece TWICE. (Which is a better deal than their 20 piece for $105). My fav pieces were the wagyu, the unagi, & the Hotate (sea scallop). But every single bite was a delight and I'm dying to go back!! Heads up- if you're looking to drink, they don't have any alcoholic beverages but they do serve it at their other location on the west side.

Yelp
$60 for omakase? Say no more. It is not your typical omakase experience and that's OK. There's about 6 seats at this little shack and you are dining outside. You get about 30 minutes to eat so you're basically speed eating. It does more fast, but it doesn't feel rushed. The fish tastes fresh and of high quality. The chefs are engaging. Definitely a unique experience you must try if you love omakase.

Yelp
I went to Sushi on Jones for dinner to catch up with a friend. They had spacious outdoor seating and very casual and relaxed vibes. We tried the 12-piece omakase. The first piece of the omakase was an oyster that had a bit of a kick. The other 11 pieces were sushi. All pieces of sushi were extremely unique and delicious. Personally, I cannot remember what each piece was, but you could taste the quality and care put into every piece. You definitely won't be full from the 12-piece omakase and it is a bit on the pricier side relative to other food. That being said, the food is solid and for gourmet sushi, it's fairly affordable. I would recommend Sushi on Jones if you wish to try some high-quality, affordable, gourmet sushi without breaking the bank.

Yelp
The experience goes by fast, but it is very difficult to argue that it was not tasty. Seating is outside, which can easily change the experience depending on the weather and the public. My girlfriend and I were sat on the outside, and we were comfortable, but I can imagine bigger groups will have issues. The sushi chefs were very accommodating as my girlfriend has a shellfish allergy, but I love it. We always fear cross-contamination, but this place did a great job taking care of us. Seeing the chefs cut the sushi and handle each piece with care was very rewarding. Shellfish was kept far from the regular pieces. Ended up getting the 16-piece Omakase (not listed on the menu for some reason). Each piece was fresh and screamed quality. One of my favorites was the squid, which was very easy to chew. The salmon roe was also one of my favorites, with each egg popping and carrying a tremendous and robust fishy flavor. Again, it is hard to argue that the food was not tasty. It can be quite expensive; I spent $200 for two. For many, the 30-minute experience may not be worth the amount. For those who go for it, you will be pleasantly surprised with the flavor profiles. Not a perfect score because a slightly longer experience would be preferred for the price.

Yelp
A small and casual omakase spot, they only have 3 seats at the counter and another 2 tables. I would definitely recommend getting the counter seats if possible, as you get food directly served to you. We got the twenty course omakase ($105). The ingredients weren't top tier, but they were good enough, you can probably get better quality fish at another omakase place, but this place probably serves you more pieces of nigiri, so the value is not bad. They also serve the nigiri a little too quickly. Overall, a nice place for a quick and casual omakase, maybe just a little too expensive for the quality.

Yelp
This location is tiny and a bit hard to find - it's hidden at the street corner. Ordered Omakase takeout. The rice was a bit hard and big. Uni sushi was very fresh. Wagyu sushi was def the best. The smoked fluke was also very yum.

Yelp
Had the Omakase with 2 others and it was a total delight. Wagyu , scallop, and eel were amazing. Miso soup was really good as well - but be prepared to drink from the bowl! Omakase was extremely good - just not enough to fill me up - which is the only reason they got 4 stars instead of five!

Yelp
It's an affordable omakase for a fast-casual type of dining. I had it bookmarked for awhile and since we were in the area we attempted to see if they had any walk in space available. We were quickly sat and the food and experience went alright. The server that greeted us informed us on how the omakase worked. Although staff was nice, server overfilled my water glass which then spilled all over my leg. Some of the fish was quite nice, the quality was good for what it was. With the ambience and the outdoor setting, it kinda cheapens the omakase experience but it was different and unique for that fact.

Yelp
Small sushi spot inside the Bowery Market. Make sure you make a reservation because there's only six spots. It's basically an in-and-out, fast-paced eatery. They offer 12 pieces, chef selected sushi, omakase style for $58 per person. When making a reservation, text the number instead of calling it, even though the website said call. Actually, call anyways so you can hear the funny recording. They'll confirm the reservation with a text stating something like this, "Just a friendly reminder we only seat complete parties and give a 2 minute grace period. We ask that you please arrive on time and complete. We allow 30 minutes of dining.. Clock starts at reservation time." There's also a sign that says, "LESS TALK MORE EAT MUCHO ARIGATO" behind the chef. So hurry up, eat, and get the heck out. Overall, it was good. Wish the chef didn't over torched my wagyu though. We did order an extra piece of uni sushi and a wagyu with uni hand roll for $12 each.

Yelp
12 Pieces Omakase. This was disappointing because nothing was too special about it. The fish are fresh and thats about it. The dining experience was fast paced - a little bit too fast and we felt rushed. We didn't even finished the piece and the chef was already ready with the next one.

Yelp
Holy hell, this is making my revisit all of my conceptions about omakase. My initial reaction to the $58 price tag was that it sounded too good to be true. You get 12 pieces of utterly sublime fish (as well as the option of a $12 wagyu and uni handroll), no tipping, no tax. The downside is that you're eating it in a cramped little space at the back of the Bowery Market within sneezing space of strangers and you have 30 minutes. But think of it as practice for building up your express train stamina and I definitely didn't feel rushed. If anything, I liked how they kept things moving. Reservations: You need one. Not sure what it was like when they first opened but it was pretty easy. You text a number with your name and preferred date and they give you a bunch of options. Being the grandma that I am, I went with the 5:40 seating but I think they have at least two every hour. Space: You'll sit on top of your neighbor as you stuff your face. Food: I'll always order fish over meat but good god, that wagyu and uni was an umami bomb that I wanted 15 pieces of (check out my pics but they don't really do the taste justice). It's like trying to describe the taste of chocolate to someone who's never eaten it before. If you want some dinnertime entertainment, it's always fun to watch the chef use a flame torch and see that wagyu spark and glisten and burn to a red, heady hue. In general, the pieces were a little more adventurous than places like Yasuda/Nakazawa, which stick to the classic Nagiri of fish + rice without much additional seasoning beyond wasabi and ginger. Sushi on Jones steps a little outside the box, with additions like charcoal salt on top of scallop. Which was amazing. Oh and definitely plop the $12 down for the wagyu uni handroll. It's worth it, I promise, since the size worked out to about 3-4 small pieces. You can also order some extra pieces but be prepared to scarf them down as the customers for the next seating start trickling in. Price: $58 for the base omakase. I thought the caliber was up there with places like Tanoshi and Nakazawa for a fraction of the cost. Life motto: Less talk, more eating.
